Used this pub as a stop-off before & after a Robyn Hitchcock gig at the Portland Arms. A good range of well-kept Adnams beers are on offer. Food, too, although I didn't try any.

Very cozy place with good quality food. Wide range of beer collection. Fried chicken burger is really great, give it a chance.

It was a very rainy Saturday afternoon so it was great to find this pub on the walk back to the car. Great to have a decent pint of beer with a bowl of chips to dry out and make the last few yards to the car.

Outstanding pub with excellent food. Love the cask and draft beers they are offering. But best is their signature blackstone dishes. You have the choice of three different meets. You get 2 side dishes and your choice of sauce. Very reasonable price. Close to downtown and outdoor seating available.

We had a steak and fajitas cooked ourselves on the black rock stone grill, the quality of the food was excellent and great value as well.

Came in for a couple burgers and a beer with a friend, service was great, staff were very friendly and helpful, food was fantastic, the Castle FC burger was delicious, the chef cooked it and the skin on fries and perfection, sticky toffee pudding was great

So glad that the Castle Inn were able to accommodate us for a 45th anniversary reunion. The private room, for our use, was great and the welcome warm. Everything was well thought out, with food arriving piping hot and delicious. The work that went into ensuring that our celebration was a success was down to the Castle Inn team. Interaction with our organisers was friendly, with all our requests catered for. We had a great reunion, which was in no small part due to the management and chefs at the Castle. We'll be back!

Absolutely brilliant hosts for our 48 year reunion event for me and my old student friends - the management Hayley and Jez were so incredibly accommodating and welcoming, the space provided and the food were just perfect :))

The food is ok but it's more style over substance and not value for money. Not a fan of the hot stone platter as it keeps the food too hot for way too long. The beers are kept nicely so it's a good place to sit and drink. Spacious rear garden and some is under cover and on different levels. The bar is pretty much unchanged over the last 10 years or so which means it's a nice drinking pub with lots of nooks and crannies.

We enjoyed it here. We had dinner in one of the cabins in the nice beer garden behind the pub. The halloumi and chips was good. Service was fast. The Aperol Spritz might have been a bit stronger but is was fine for me. I passed through the indoor part and the air seemed stuffy. I wouldn't dare eat here indoors for fear of lack of ventilation.

Really nice pub but unfortunately the bar staff really let it down,we was being told off by bar staff because we was drinking at the bar, which was really surprising as I've been a regular in many pubs since my teen years and always stood by the bar drinking and chatting with friends as that is why we go to a PUB and that's how the British people have done for years. I could understand if we was in covid but those days are well behind us,I could also understand if other punters couldn't get to the bar but this was not the case,just felt we was getting talked down to and wasn't welcomed,shame as I'm sure plenty of other pubs would welcome us.

Friendly pub, good service. There is now a much better choice of food again. 😊 The food was tasty and well presented. They have even brought back the fish finger sandwich although it's been upgraded into a bun, given a corny name and now 4x the price! Lovely to sit outside in good weather and a great atmosphere inside.

We generally visit once a month or every six weeks for a casual sandwich and chips lunch with friends. When we visited on Saturday 13 April we found the menu had changed. The fish finger sandwich option had disappeared to be replaced with a fish finger burger. We asked where the sandwiches had gone but no satisfactory reply just that they had changed the menu. So we ordered the fish finger burger. What a rip off. Almost double the price but two fish fingers in the cheapest burger bun, a slice of unripe inedible tomato and the thinnest sliver of pickle and I think I had a finger sized portion of lettuce! My friend had minute steak with chips and let's face it the minute steak should have been entitled 'minute' as the dish was nearly all chips! We shall not be visiting again as when I was asked how we had enjoyed our meal and we replied not a patch on the previous tasty sandwich (which had came with a small salad) there was no comment and no interest.

As usual this review is based on food quality, staff attitude, atmosphere and local-standard value for money: pub serving good food - simple menu. They claim to have the best beer garden in town (it’s indeed a nice one). Over the last twenty years I have been travelling for business (and not) reason and I have discovered a lot about the world of catering. All my reviews are for restaurants.

A larger selection of different beers, which the kind waiter told us is regularly available elsewhere. Towards the evening there were fewer people and a bad atmosphere. We drank one beer and left.

The door way is too short! Hurt myself on the way in by banging my head, they have a “mind your head” sign on the inside of the shop, but NOT the outside. This pub is a health and safety hazard.

I held my Hen Day meal upstairs here last week. They were very accommodating considering there were 23 of us! Big shout out to Alex and Jez who were both very helpful and kind. I would definitely recommend the Castle for a venue for your group dinner. There is a very good (paid) council-run car park right next door.

We have been there a couple of times and it is always a nice experience. The food was great and they have a nice beer selection. We will be back next time we are in Cambridge.

A warm and welcoming pub with great service and reasonably priced meals. The staff are efficient, friendly and great in remembering personal preferences on subsequent visits, in particular Fin who is always happy to help.

We just went in for a hot drink on the way back to where we had parked our car. The Pimm's Hot Toddy is highly recommended for warming the cockles of your heart! We didn't eat but the menu looked good with plenty of vegetarian options. Although the pub is on different levels there is plenty of room for wheelchairs as you enter the Inn.

It was my first visit to this beautiful place. Very quirky, interesting interior, good selection of drinks, even nonalcoholic ones too. There is enough space to accommodate groups, but I would say book in advance. There is a back garden too. Parking is not available but you could park at the castle parking which is few steps away

Surprisingly nice Adnams pub tucked just north of the city centre close to the Cambs Museum. Like the beer range, a change from the usual without being a craft mecca mostly vegan friendly beers apart from the cask as usual with this brewer. Had appetizers to graze which were readily available as a vgn option so top marks for that. The 2 Team members serving was the best plus point, very lovely and helpful , would return again when in these parts

This turned out to be a very good choice because it was close to the car park and served dinner early so that we could get to a concert in time. The restaurant gradually filled up and became really buzzy. The service was friendly and efficient. The traditional pub fare was enjoyed by all four of us. The fish and chips were good and it was lovely to have a choice of peas, mushy peas or salad. The chicken Kiev and sausage and mash were also enjoyed. The bar was interesting with ‘Dispensary’ written above. Intrigued, I left intending to find out more about the history of this old building.

Stopped for lunch and a beer. Always a good selection of beers available here. I had the ploughman's plus board and it was really tasty.

Went for lunch with work colleagues and was very disappointed in the food. Service was good, very friendly, but the food was just not good! I ordered the chicken burger and the piece of chicken was very fatty and overcooked. The fries were not hot.

Wonderful traditional pub with a great unpretentious atmosphere and the best barman ever. We were completely bowled over by Finn behind the bar, he recommended some fantastic ipa's and had great conversation. He seriously made our visit special ! It was my first time in the Castle Inn and it won't be my last. Thanks Finn

Castle Inn … thank you for providing a fantastic space to accommodate 15 people for our Christmas party from EACH charity. We were greeted with tables beautifully decorated. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Comfortable seating with lots of space to host games in between courses. We all had a traditional Christmas dinner wether it was turkey / vegetarian or vegan options. Everyone was catered for to the highest quality. All freshly cooked served piping hot with plenty of yummy gravy!! Nothing was too much trouble. The venue was very clean, including the loos. This will now be our traditional Christmas outing with out a doubt. Thank you to the Castle Inn , the talented chef and the amazing staff that made our party sparkle ✨

My team went to the Castle for our Christmas lunch and it was incredible. Jez and Alex on the bar were so attentive and took great care of us. The kitchen were incredible and the food was delicious. Despite the fact the pub was busy and there was another big group we were taken care of so well! Amazing team, food and experience! I would highly recommend.

Stopped by for some lunch as recommended by a friend and they were spot on!! Generous portions and great tasting. Can't say too much about the atmosphere as we were there for an early lunch (first ones through the door!!). Bar staff were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend for sure.

Food was lovely, staff were very good too! Was a touch loud sat next to the speaker but staff managed the music well. Great price for lunch would recommend highly.

This pub is quite popular among the locals. I highly recommend trying their sweet potato dirty fries; they are incredibly delicious. Both the cider and beer are also tasty options.

I've visited The Castel Inn for the Paint Club event. Old-fashioned building been refurbished. Looks brilliant. Very atmospheric!

Just a nice place for a drink with friends in the evening. Decent pub with lovely staff and a relaxed atmosphere. We did not eat here so cannot comment on the food.

Did not sit inside - to be honest it seemed to lack character. Outside was ok - lots of tables and chairs outside, some under cover.

We have always enjoyed visits to the Castle. Most recently we popped in for lunch on a Sunday. I am not always the biggest fan of a roast in a pub, but saw someone else having it and it looked great, so we ordered the same. There was a great variety of veg, the meat was good, nice Yorkie and potatoes. They have a decent beer range from Adnams and I thought the prices were reasonable for Cambridge. The lady running the place was very friendly and efficient which is lovely to see.

Superb Adnams beer choices and lovely pub inside, big upstairs, and nice beer garden. Food a bit limited, only burgers or nachos when I went.

Quick delicious food. A great castle burger with squid and wings is my recommendation. Food only took 10 minutes and the waiter was nice and welcoming.

I cannot compliment the staff here enough. We were on a school trip today and visited the castle hill. They let our children use the toilets and refilled loads of water bottles for us. So kind and helpful. We will be coming back for a visit to the pub to enjoy the food very soon.

Great beer selection, pub grub, spacious for large groups and quiet social drinks alike. Service is usually slow whether it’s busy or quiet, but no big deal unless you are in a rush.

We were a late walk in for the Sunday carvery having been booked for a roast in a different pub which no longer did them but failed to notify us. We were not disappointed, both had the lamb which chef informed us he’d cooked overnight & was possibly the best lamb I’ve eaten.

Conveniently next to the Framingham castle. Stopped in for lunch after touring the castle. Staff were friendly and attentive. The meals were great. Large portions and tasty.

Decided to visit the newly opened Castle Inn for Sunday Lunch today. This wonderful old pub is under new custodianship and we were glad to see that although it’s been given a fresh coat of paint and tidied up, it still retains all of it’s old charm. The Sunday roast carvery and the sticky toffee pudding were excellent as was the service and atmosphere. We used to come here quite often when it was an Adnam’s pub but we stopped visiting a few years ago when the food went down hill. We didn’t sample the beer as we don’t drink these days but if it’s anything like the beer at the Alex and the Portland Arms which Hayley and Steve are also custodians of, I’m pretty sure it will be good. We will definitely be returning in the near future to sample the burgers.

I didn't visit. However I just learned that the pub was once owned by John Halsey, who played Barry Wom (Barrington Womble) in Eric Idle and Neil Innes' brilliant Beatles parody "All You Need is Cash." Barry was "The Rutles" drummer. So that's reason enough to go.

This is my third visit to this pub, due to being introduced to a local Games Night at this location. My experiences have been great, the staff are very welcoming, and even helped to clarify so confusion I had with the kitchen opening times. With the pub having a very cosy feel, it's the kind of place I have found nice to relax in, and I would definitely recommend people come here. I feel home...

Was in Cambridge for the day and stumbled across this gem. Popped in around 2ish Friday afternoon for a rest stop and had a warm greeting. Nice clean and welcoming and was surprised by the good quality German beer selection and at a reasonable price. Unfortunately we had an appointment elsewhere but would have definitely stayed for more. Will be on the list for my next visit for a drink and bite to eat.

We went today and were so welcomed (pub and food also lovely). Staff went out of their way to accommodate us and even cooked food when their kitchen had just shut. Thanks to them it was a really great afternoon.

Además, pedí un solo trago de espresso, pero me dijeron que no sirven café. Eso es un poco extraño.

Great beer but the food is awful. Had a double burger with Stilton and chips. The chips looked and tasted like they had been reheated a number of times. My wife had a chicken burger which was not great and same problem with the chips. I’ll visit again for the beer but definitely not the food

I recently had a works Christmas party here in the upstairs area. The food was excellent and the service was superb from beginning to end thanks to excellent staff with the landlord and landlady regularly checking in to make sure all was going well. I will definitely be back.

I come here a lot and am always impressed by the beer on offer. It's usually Adnams which is fine by me. This time there was London Pride on offer which was great.The food is fine but not exceptional. Well priced.Definitely worth a visit, especially for the beer.

Después de esperar más de una hora para nuestra comida, fui y pregunté cuánto tiempo duraría la comida. El dueño me arremetió frente a todos, de una manera que solo puedo describir como un acosador. El resto del personal reaccionó como si esto fuera algo común. A regañadientes comimos nuestra comida cuando finalmente llegó; Sin embargo, nunca volveremos al Castle Inn. Mi familia y yo hasta el día de hoy estamos molestos por el comportamiento abusivo.

We often visited The Castle from 2014 to 2017 for a value bite to eat while visiting our daughter at university. It was great.This time, we stopped off on our journey south from Yorkshire, so we were a bit tired and in need of refreshment.So, what was wrong this time?1. Ordered food before 18:00, received our meals at 18:40.2. All of our meals were not very hot, but we didn't make a fuss as we were very hungry by now.3. Steak was requested as medium but was closer to rare.4. Veggie Burger as tasteless. Their veggie burgers used to be a good enough reason alone to visit!5. Fish was fine but cold and we didn't want it re- heated or another long wait for a fresh one.6. Then, a long black hair found amongst the chips.I queried all this at the bar and was met by indifference. They kept the hair "for inspection" but no one came back to us about this, or to apologise or offer anything complementary as compensation.We left wishing that we hadn't bothered and had gone to a motorway services instead.We won't be returning, which is a shame as we have many happy memories of this place.What's happened?

he Castle Inn serves Adnams ales. We we called in there were 9 handpumps. We tried the Old Ale and Broadside, both were very well kept. Although we didn't eat here, we certain saw plenty of very tasty plates go by.

About 20 of us had a reunion before the short course started. Well accommodated in the upstairs room, and the (good) food was brought to us there.

La semana pasada dejé el último tercio de una pinta y le dije al barman que necesitaba cambiar el barril. Media hora después, un amigo había traído el mismo producto, ¿habían cambiado el barril? . . . . NO. Dejó casi las tres cuartas partes. Durante el último año, he tenido la impresión de que al propietario, a quien rara vez vemos en el local, no le importan sus cervezas.

We have been visiting this establishment regularly and were really surprised when the manager said 'if you complain one more time your barred'. This left a sour taste in our mouths and we asked the manager about this. He became very patronising saying there is always problems when we come in. To be honest they are always running out of beer and different food items. We were loyal customers of this establishment but the way the manager conducted himself we will certainly not be returning.

Myself and husband visited the pub today and have left confused and destressed.

I'd never been to the Castle before now but I wish I had ! Found a great selection of real ales, German lagers and home made food. Great setting and would go again. A really good locals pub with friendly staff and atmosphere.

They had a good selection of beers and spirits with a lovely outside area. The menu seems to have improved, but still good portion sizes. All in all a good place to go with the family.

We visited The Castle Inn last night and it was so lovely to find a good selection of salads on the menu.

After attending a conference at Cambridge University my fellow conference attendees and I spent a fun and engaging evening at the Castle Inn (Saturday, April 27, 2019). There were only four of us left at close and we were politely asked to leave, although we still had drinks that we had paid for. (Admittedly we were slow to leave as we were engaged in conversation and unfamiliar with the expediency expected of patrons in Cambridge to vacate as soon as the hour is up). Two of my friends went to the toilet and another went out. I was left on my own finishing my drink when a male member of staff started shouting at me, he grabbed the pint glass from my hand as I was drinking it and told me to get out of HIS pub. He then manhandled me, dragged me from the table that I was standing at - I was standing as I was about to leave anyway - he proceeded to throw me out the open doorway while shouting a volley of vitriolic threats kept repeating 'Get out of my f** pub'. The viciousness of the insults he bellowed along with the look of shock on the other members of staff made me realise very quickly that this man was out of control and liable to use violence that would cause real physical harm. I was unsure if he was still holding my glass and I was conscious that he could strike me with it as he was overcome with a violent frenzy. This was both shocking and degrading. At 36 years old I have never been treated by a staff member, or anyone else for that matter, with such aggression, disregard and disrespect . A member of staff did come outside and did apologise on behalf of the establishment, and I believe his apology was genuine. This experience leaves a sour memory of what was otherwise an outstanding weekend in Cambridge.

Food, drink and service was very good.

A group of about 8 of us came here for a few drinks on Saturday 27/04/19 after a conference in the university. This is a fine pub, with a great selection food and drink. We would have had a great night only for a member of staff, a short, stocky man with blonde hair who was mostly collecting glasses. Throughout the evening this individual could be heard mimicking an Irish accent to his mates at the bar and using the derogatory word ‘Paddy’. At the end of the night he set about one of us as we were finishing our drinks and getting ready to leave. He screamed ‘I'll smash your f*cking head in you c*nt’ at one of us, grabbing him and pushing him violently out the front door. The other bar staff were very apologetic, and helped the rest of us leave through the back door so that we would not be confronted by him.

The food and the pints were great and myself and my colleagues, following a conference in Cambridge University this last Saturday, were enjoying conversation together, speaking both in Irish and in English, while finishing our drinks when suddenly we were told that we had to leave. We assumed that this was a general call from the bar to ask all customers to leave. At this point I went to the toilet and was intending to leave the building. When I came back from the toilet one of our group was outside, another was standing in the door way while a member of staff was shouting obscenities at him and mimicking an Irish accent in a mocking way. The member of staff then pushed my colleague out through the doorway and slammed the door on him. At this point another member of staff advised that I leave through the back entrance, which I did, not wanting to be attacked by this other barman who was clearly aggravated and aggressive to us. I met up with my colleagues outside who were shocked by this behaviour. The barman who showed me out the backdoor came around to the front of the building to apologise to use for the other barman's attack on us. While it was good to get an apology there was a large group of local/English customers still inside sitting, drinking at the bar, which we could see through the window. The question begs, why was this aggressive bar man allowed to verbally abuse and physically expel the Irish customers out of this bar? Clearly a racist attack on Irish speaking customers who were well mannered the whole night.

Mi amigo tenía una hamburguesa quemada con chips fríos y todas las comidas eran pobres. Cuando ella destacó que su comida estaba fría, el servidor se limitó a decir que lo sentimos, que estamos demasiado ocupados. Él reemplazó la comida y su segunda comida llegó en lo que solo podía sugerir que era un plato sucio con gusto aún en el plato. No hace falta decir que no lo comió y que nunca más volveríamos a comer allí. . . ¡Es una pena!
