Excellent Greek food and a good selection of beer.

Favourite local pub in the Mill Rd area. Excellent selection of Belgian beers although would benefit from stocking some more IPAs. The Greek food is also very good. Can get busy, so come early if you want a table inside.

food very limited .greek giros if you like that sort of thing. wouldn't eat there again but as it was someone else's choice we went. busy pub though just depends on what you like

A good walk from the city centre the beers did not live up to the range advertised on the website. Food was being served when we visited in the lunchtime. I did not feel that it was worth the walk.

Brilliant pub and well worth a visit, I popped in both nights on my visit to Cambridge, very impressed with there beer and cider selection and nice to find a pub that's not tied to a brewery! Staff were friendly and helpful too.... The food is EXCELLENT! I had the Greek mixed grill and everything was very authentic, tasty and well cooked, more than enough for one person!

Excellent Royal Standard pub with amazing food by Tzatziki. Wide selection of drinks available from the pub. Very friendly and helpful staff. Food menus on tables and ordered via app. We enjoyed the box meals with additional cheese.

A great Saturday evening pub. Bustly and busy, friendly and the right amount of lively. The bar staff are lovely. The food was absolutely spot on. Enormous loaded fries were absolutely delicious, mushroom topped veggie versus with so much cheese. The little truffle and honey pies were delicious. An outstanding offering of ciders. Great cocktails including aperol and choice of negronies. And it's dog friendly. 🐕 An absolute recommend. 💯

For the 2nd time this year we travelled nearly 200miles to spend an evening at this superb pub. The staff, service, beer and food are worth every mile!

Lovely pub, the beer selection was incredible. The souvlaki was great as usual we order it every time. Today we tried the Nutella dough balls for the first time, they were so good I cried a little. Highly recommended

Well great staff but I needed a loan to go there. The prices are absolutely horrendous. I won't be going again. I was told it's a busy pub for students at night. So much for poor students.

Great find for us during our Christmas shopping trip to Cambridge. Good relaxed vibe..mostly locals of all ages..some eating and others just meeting up for drinks. Quick and efficient ordering via the app, food arrived quickly, hot and fresh. Nice choice of Greek inspired dishes, large portions for a reasonable price. Being a gin fan I was offered some unusual brands and was grateful for some flavour suggestions from the bar staff which I enjoyed. Mr C enjoyed his Belgian draft beer too. Overall a great find when popping into Cambridge, would defo visit again! 😀

Daughter has visited before, she lives round the corner. So she suggested it after a long day unpacking for uni. Jordan was fab and the beer range was superb. 3 souvlaki and starters went down a bomb.... Coming from a cretan household that's a huge compliment. Would recommend it to anyone visiting the mill road area.

The fact that the staff member kept asking whether he should remove the food was very annoying. Especially considering it is Greek food. I prefer the previous vibe of this pub.

Stopped in on a Tuesday evening for a bite and a drink. Wide range of interesting beers available. Delicious greek-type food from a different provider on-site, very good value wraps and other side dishes. Recommended

I went to meet a friend for the first time for a while. We arrived and were pleased to get a table for two pretty quickly. £8 for a pitta filled with slow roast pork, tzatziki, red onions, chips and lettuce - decently filling and very tasty; I'd have paid more. Many good beers - a couple on tap which weren't in the list (and which were what we went for!). Lovely to be able to go to the pub again, and pleased to be back here.

Came here last minute for some lunch with two kids and my mother. Brilliant service Very helpful and accommodating to children. Lovely staff!! Cannot recommend this place enough food is amazing!! Thankyou royal standard team :)

Came to The Royal Standard to celebrate myself getting a job with my partner and it was bloody brilliant. The staff were fantastic (fixing the tap for a drink that i wanted, showing my partner the gin of the day and offering a top up of lemonade, etc), the food was delicious and fast coming out (both had steak, both were super juicy) and the prices weren't ridiculous! 10/10 would definately eat here again but would also be tempted to come for just a casual drink too as the atmosphere was super friendly!

Not your typical neighbourhood pub, didn't sell my tipple but thunk they had every bottle of gin k ow to man. Little expensive

We enjoyed our Sunday roast here it was a lovely size meal and tasty it’s a nice easy ambience in the pub. It is also attractively decorated . We chose it here as it’s near the lite cinema and easy to park. They served food most of the day so we were able to eat at 3 pm. It was relaxing and the service was fine .We went to have a look in the nearby new mosque which is very beautiful . It was a welcoming place and cakes were being given out as there was a wedding party going on

Me and my friends recently moved into Malta road and our first thought after moving all our belongings in was collectively.....’pint?’ To our luck there was a pub down the road. We walked in and we were immediately greeted by a smile. Our server, Milly was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I’ve never had such an incredible service at a pub and I will certainly return!

We visited the standard for my dads birthday, we’ve always wanted to try it out since the the Re-Ferb and have kept meaning to do so. On this special occasion we finally tried it out and so happy we did I had a burger witch was great. Service was fast and staff was very pleasant I can’t wait to return to try out there roast

This is our local pub. In the recent months we have had my birthday meal here and come regularly for the food. The pub offers a range of German and Belgium beer and amazing gin selection. They know their stuff! The food seems expensive but trust me it is totally worth every penny. We have never had a disappointing or bad meal here. We would recommend the sharing veggi nachos to start! Homemade and totally yummy! We have tried many of their specials and the mussels and the burgers are amazing! I could go on.. this is a special, well run, welcoming pub that offers so much. Would recommend to anyone. Pudding is pretty damn good also 😉

The Royal Standard just does pub food really well, which is surprisingly hard to find in Cambridge. Their nutroast roast is just so delicious, and I'm not even vegetarian. The pub has a great atmosphere and lovely selection of wines and beers. Just what a pub should be!

One of my local pubs where I can count on a nice pint and tasty food. So I’m not sure if I should tell anyone else! If you’re from out of Cambridge you’ll find it expensive. If not, you’ll realise it’s a treat.

Three of us visited The Royal Standard for a few rounds and food one recent evening. The overall atmosphere of the pub is great and it wasn’t heaving with too many people that it was unpleasant.

I was staying in Cambridge and wanted a pint on my first night. I went to the counter and told the barmaid that I was an American and needed help choosing an ale. She had an idea right away and let me try it before pouring the pint. I enjoyed the outdoor beer garden while reading a book on a weeknight. It was a nice atmosphere and would recommend!

I called up before going to this pub to check we could come for food and they said they were still serving food for the next hour and a half. We arrive an hour before the kitchen closed asked to see the menu and ordered drinks. We proceeded to order food and were told the kitchen decided to close an hour before official kitchen closing time. Not impressed.

Work trip and chose the venue to sample their Belgian ales.

Sunny evening after a hard days DIY. What better than good beer (Adnams) and a great variety of lagers and IPA's. Good food made it perfect. Moule with chorizo and frites plus Adnams Gost Ship. good company made it a perfect evening. I'm sure this is a great local sadly too far from home but very welcoming and a menu to meet all tastes Thoroughly recommend this bar / restaurant.

Went last night with a few friends. Two had mussels and said they were very good; I had a big plate of nachos, cheese, guacamole, chilli and sour cream for £10, and they were tasty (though I think they were fried tortilla pieces rather than corn chips). Good chocolate brownie too, though quite expensive at £5.

Reserved a table, 4 of us...no mention of a wait on arrival! Waited 1hr after which I asked when we could expect our food. The response “there is only one chef on today” right...on Father’s Day on a Sunday afternoon? What’s worse is the pub didn’t seem that busy at all! I have no idea what took so long (I could have walked to another pub ordered and eaten and walked back faster!) 1hr 20min later our food arrived... it was average at best! Really small portions and very bland. It’s a shame and also a first being cambridge born and bred I’ve been to many pubs this might be one of the worst (and most expensive) the selection of booze is good but I wouldn’t bother with food again. Much better/cheaper options out there. Whatever the reason over an hour wait is totally unacceptable. Ladies behind the bar were friendly. Seemed clean and well kept. Won’t be returning in a hurry...nor will anyone else in our party!

The food was good enough but the beers and selection of beers did not meet my expectations for a British pub.

The royal standard is a Belgium themed pub ( so they have many Belgium beers in bottles and on tap ) very nice choice of beers as well . The food is amazing the staff are friendly well worth a visit if your visiting Cambridge or even locals too

Having looked around for a place close to our hotel to eat we came upon The Royal Standard. We entered expecting basic pub grub and was pleasantly surprised to find an extensive menu. The choice of food and drink was superb. The staff were helpful and very friendly. When the food arrived we could not believe the quality. Freshly cooked, well presented and full of flavour! We would highly recommend a visit.

I love this place, such friendly service and amazing food. The steaks are to die for and the wine list is fantastic! A real gem in Cambridge!!

The Standard used to be, well let’s say, a bit tasty back in the day and I don’t mean food wise... fighting wasn’t obligatory but always available on request.

We used to love this pub; both for its atmosphere and its food. The atmosphere is still very nice, always friendly, no TVs or slot machines. However, food has really deteriorated. It used to be amazing in the first months / first year after opening (best Sunday roast ever) but on the last three occasions, the food wasn't great. Fish and Chips tasteless (and served with fries not chips), as was the pork roast; lamb roast was cold. Also, portion size has decreased significantly (e.g. three half potatoes) - last time, we ended up going to a cafe afterwards for cake as we were still hungry. I believe in not wasting food - if that is the policy behind the small portions, maybe write it in the menu and come by during the meal and ask if more of anything is needed. For quality and quantity of food, the prices are pretty high, too.

We LOVE the nachos here was they are home made and the best we have ever had. We often come in for some on a Friday or Saturday when they are open at lunchtime. This week though we have been disappointed- yesterday it was closed at 1.00 with no explanation on the door. Today, despite being mid jan, freezing rain outside there was NO heating on! This is not the first time. We asked for it to be put on but it took too long for the pub to heat up. We sat shivering in hats and coats for 10 minutes before going to the Brook down the road to warm up! Very disappointed to miss our nachos this week :(

We were very impressed when this opened because of the choice of beers. The food was also very nice -however expensive-, and the service was excellent. We had been going there for dinner here at least three times a month, since it opened (4 years ago?).

Great service but don’t expect great things re food- it’s definitely not fresh just reheated. It’s a shame because the setting is lovely, but like many refurbished pubs they think s lock of paint is enough to pull in custom.

We went for brunch today and it was fantastic - good quality ingredients cooked beautifully. We had the all day breakfast (which was a very generous portion so make sure you're hungry) and the eggs benedict and both were great. The vegetarian breakfast would be good too as the potato scones and mushrooms were delicious on the full English, and poached eggs were cooked really well.

This friendly pub always has a few ales on and a huge choice of gin. Food is good and there's always a specials board with tempting dishes. Food is homemade and cooked to order so it's always fresh. The staff is friendly and chatty and it's a great place to relax.

We went for Sunday lunch and had both the beef and nut roast options from the Sunday Roast menu. Both were generous portions and nicely presented as well as being very tasty. We followed up with Tiramisu for dessert, which was very nice. Very impressed by the whole experience and would recommend it for a nice lunchtime meal.

Popped in for a drink as we were walking back to Cherry Hinton where we were staying. A few different beers available. We sat outside as it was a lovely day and we would have stayed longer if a rowdy family had not arrived! The menu looked good although we didn't eat.

3rd visit to the restaurant / pub that advertises a Belgium theme and has Moules (mussels) as part of it's description; and again NO Moules. How can it happen 3 times even on different days? Very disappointing...

My husband and I booked a table for Saturday evening. We had such a superb time! They were trialling table service which was a wonderful surprise and great touch too!

Understated and Relaxed atmosphere. More of a restaurant than a pub, although the men in my life were drawn in by the Belgian beer and were not disappointed! Good food selection on menu and specials board. Veggies are accommodated but a few more and more inspiring options would be make it more of a treat and a choice! We ordered a steak, a pie and a main salad. Whilst Steak was good and did arrive as ordered (rare-med rare!), pie tasty with a nice selection of veg, feta salad main although fresh was pretty average in content and size, and doused in dressing. Staff friendly and polite. Service good. Not cheap but overall we would recommend and will return.

I've eaten at The Royal Standard something like four times now during my stays in Cambridge. This is a restau-pub, if that exists. Technically, it's a pub. But you won't find locals standing around the bar, slightly trashed and very noisy. The guests are very much in restaurant mode: coming for the food in a casual atmosphere.

Great quality, pretty fast and friendly staff. The food (sausages and curry) was pretty reasonable and the selection of beers is pretty good too. Not too crowded. Overal recommended.

Food was great, but when it first came out my beef and my mums lamb was not heated thoroughly. We did let a member of staff know and they fix the problem right away. They brought out new dishes with a complementary drink and everything was great. I would definitely come back here. The staff are very polite and assertive.

Been loads of times and the food is always great. Lots of variety, good portions and tasty. Very friendly staff, they keep the beer very well too.

Been here maybe 10 times as it's my local. Beer selection is always on point and staff have always been very nice and friendly. The food ranges from brilliant to ok depending on chef. First few times I went the burger was super tasty, then it went through a bad spell for a few months and was very average. They then got a new chef in and the burger was even better than before, perfectly medium with a decent char. On my most recent visit it was somewhere in between. Still good, but not stand out. Definitely always worth a visit and probably my favourite pub in the mill road part of Cambridge...if only the food was more consistent it'd be a 5 for sure.

The BEST Sunday Lunch on Mill Road by far. Great staff, super service and the food was SO tasty, plenty of it and delicious gravy. Lemon and Rosemary Creme Brûlée was wonderful as was the Chocolate Cheese Cake. Can't wait to come back. 😃

We popped into the Royal Standard on the off chance for lunch. Service was very friendly and whilst they had several parties in for Christmas lunch we were shown a table.

My husband and I visited for Sunday Lunch. We had a vegetarian wild mushrrom baked pasta, and a wonderful rump of lamb roast dinner. Portions were very generous, leaving no room to try the gorgeous looking puddings! We shall be back to experience those soon! Staff very welcoming and friendly, our own meals were beautiful and others on adjacent tables looked just as tasty. Definitely visit if you are a foodie!

Tried the Roast twice already so knew it was a safe bet for a family birthday celebration for 9. Pleasing all round, all plates were clean as a whistle when finished, we had chicken, beef and lamb between us. All were very happy. Couple of things I need to consider for future midday Sunday on first 2 visits in October busy but not OTT, today end of November and 1pm, very very busy and loud (a little difficult for 2 of the older guests to hear well), but hey live and learn. Food and drink did not disappoint. Having grown up on Mill Road I am proud to say I am drawn back there for this little gem. Just need to get some Aperol on the bar menu.

Quality from bar to table. Wonderful ambiance. This place has never let me down or seized to impress. The drinks were refined as well as the cooking and general design of the space being cozy and beautiful. The staff are friendly and more than accomitating. Comprised of plenty of cool locals with great stories to tell about the history of the place.

8 of us for a birthday celebration, the bar was very busy when we arrived but it didn't take long to get served. Our food order went missing between order point and the kitchen so the waiter came over, explained, apologised and we had to start again. Consequently having arrived at 7pm, we were eating after 8.15pm. This had the potential to be a disaster but the waiter handled it very well (and they gave us a free round of drinks). We found the service to be very friendly (although the other waiter needs training to bring spoons and sugar for teas/coffees). We all enjoyed our meals especially the bavette steak on the specials board and the moules - if I were being picky the mushy peas should be pointed out are crushed garden peas (a disappointment for mushy pea lovers) and the veggie burger is a mushroom in a bun. We had a lovely evening though and wouldn't hesitate to recommend - and go back ourselves.

Lovely warm pub, nothing worst than a cold pub. Staff on phones when we walked in and ignored us initially, but it picked up from then onwards. Very good service from the two ladies waiting on tables, just need to improve on the food front. Great bottle of Malbec though.

Visited Cambridge and wanted a place not to far from the station. The Royal Standard was perfect. Five of us visited for Sunday lunch, the service was great and the food was superb. We tried the Sunday Roast, Curry, Burger, cheesecake and creme brulee all of which were fresh, well made tasty and fairly priced.

Excellent venue. The chef came from the,now closed, BACK ST. BISTRO . The food is restaurant standard. Best gino selection in Cambridge as noted by article in Cambridge News. Website incorrect on TripAdvisor. BTW. Should be Cambridge.pub

This was our second visit to the Royal Standard. Last visit in September we say outside as the weather was fine. This time we sat inside due to the cooker October weather. We were warmly welcomed and immediately felt at ease. After sampling some eclectic beer on tap we took our pints and relaxed in the pleasant atmosphere. The interior was refurbished in 2015 and strikes a nice balance between modern and traditional style. The crowd were friendly and staff even more so. Dinner was very good and no sign of nouvelle cuisine sized portions. With its fine selection of beers, wine and friendly service the Royal Standard is set to become our local when staying in Cambridge.

Visited for a quick bite to eat - had the 10oz burger and it was amazing - the best burger I've had in a long time - next time I'll try the 20oz burger can't wait. Beer great too - highly recommend the ease up IPA. Will be back very soon.

Needed to do some work with my wife but didn't want to be in on a Sunday so popped to the pub.

Expensive beer and the food isn't cheap, but you do pay for quality (however, I'm never paying £7 for a pint of Duvel!). Will certainly visit again.

I live by the Royal Standard and have visited a few times. Every 2 weeks on a Monday they have a "jam" night where musicians come and play - it's such a lively and fun atmosphere!
