The Penny Farthing Coffee Shop in Carlisle

I’ve ordered from Penny Farthing once before and had a jacket potato that was quite nice.On my second time, I ordered from their dedicated gluten free menu (I am gluten intolerant). The food was delivered and after about 10 minutes I received a call to say “we’re really sorry, the gluten free order you made hasn’t been cooked gluten free - sorry”. Essentially they had poisoned me and the rest of my day was ruined due to allergic reactions. My bf phoned and requested a refund, which they did provide - they blamed the error on a new member of staff; but this shouldn’t be an excuse when allergies are involved. Such a shame - if you can’t 100% promise that you can cater to gluten free; do not offer it. I won’t be ordering again as the trust is gone unfortunately.Otherwise, nice little cafe - just be aware if you have food intolerances that need catered for.

This is off the beaten track but is a proper cafe. The bacon muffin was tasty and the service was good considering the current problems.

I ordered from the Foodhub app, hoping to get a little something before I had to go to class. The staff gave me a call that the order would take another 20 mins since the internet was going on and off, which I didn’t mind, I wasn’t in a rush. She was so friendly when I went in to pick up my order. My friends and I enjoyed our lovely little lunch, I definitely would recommend this place! It’s so quaint. I will be stopping in again soon!!!!

Pop in for lunch at times and it’s a great place, staff are always friendly and food is all cooked fresh

Two couples had lunch in the penny farthing, the staff were really helpful and attentive, we all had different meals and all of us thoroughly enjoyed it, and the food is very fairly priced, definitely call again

Stopped here for breakfast could not believe the prices for early bird and even 10% off for pensioners! Breakfast sandwich was freshly cooked with friendly service. Will visit again next time we are in Carlisle!

Good choice breakfast choose style of egg type of tomatoes and bread. Hot quick good tea my third visit. Consistent quality where locals eat value for money.

Only one member of staff so we had to wait 10 minutes before being served - really good size portions - would visit about but would bare in mind the wait time.

Visitamos tienda de café para la hora del almuerzo y merienda. Las comidas eran una excelente relación calidad-precio y el servicio era amable y servicial. Teníamos un delicioso pollo panini y chaqueta patatas tanto servido con una guarnición de ensalada. Aunque se encuentra un poco alejado del centro, merece la pena la visita para un aperitivo de relación calidad-precio.

Went today felt very unwelcome by the lady who worked there was served drink in chiped dirty cups the food was tasteless the place stank of grease and never seen a cloth or mop

food is very good here we been lots of times they aslo do buffets for all partys nothing is too big or small for them always got a smile and very helpful for you as well good value for money

Nice food, excellent value but poor staff. No acknowledgement or friendliness almost verging on rudeness. Shan't be going back.
