The Bobbin Coffee Shop in Carlisle

Service that went beyond miserable as well as ridiculous prices mean we will not be coming back. Everything felt like it was an imposition, including daring to ask for jam with our toast, which was charged at 30p for a tiny portion of generic jam. Coffee was also poor and very expensive for what it was. How this place is so popular is beyond me

Was at the bobbin for the mother's day afternoon tea ..it was amazing!!.the decorations in the conservatory were lovely and the food was fantastic and there was loads of it!! 2 takeaway boxes each taken home.carrot was very tasty and moist and lots of filling in the sandwiches...thankyou xx

Ive not been for a few years until this week and I was very impressed! The food was delicious! Lovely place to have lunch, excellent location with parking. All the staff are lovely, especially the girl with the black bobbed haircut, she was wonderful with myself and my sons.

The bobbin has always been so welcoming and accommodating, whether we’ve booked for a private function or just popped in for lunch, we’ve always left feeling extremely satisfied in every way, the food is just so lovely and they always have a selection of specials and daily soups. It will always be a favourite of ours for many many years and we will continue to return x

As usual, everything was excellent - scones and coffee this time, but often have lunch here. Choice and variety of food available is always first class, and staff are very friendly, efficient and helpful.

Ordered hot chocolates & 2 cheese scones with butter. My friend had ordered jam & cream with hers (each to their own). Unfortunately when they arrived there was no butter in sight. My cheese scone had been cut in half (not buttered) and jam and a years supply of cream piled on top.🤢🤮 I managed to scrape some of the cream onto my hot chocolate. I then went to ask for butter this did not arrive so after 10 minutes of waiting and having to scrape the jam and cream off my cheese scone.....I then went up again only to catch the small tanned cashier taking the Mick out of us. My advice to the staff is to do what every other tearoom/ cafe in the UK does and place the jam & cream into little pots. Who are they to decide I don't want butter. Or people want the jam on before the cream. Some people like to spread small amounts on for every bite so you don't resemble something from the north Pole after every bite. 🎅

Lovely cafe, delicious food and friendly staff. Well worth a try if you haven't been before.

Nice cafe serving lite-bite food like baked potatoes, good quality sandwiches with fresh salad, scones, cakes etc. Reasonable quality coffee and fair pricing. Have enjoyed eating here many times. Good for meeting up with friends, lunch with elderly relatives etc. Good car park at the rear with wheelchair access. Premises all on the level. Personally this time I was a bit disappointed with the bakewell tart which should have almond flavour but I think someone forgot to put it in. Friendly helpful staff, clean and tidy environment, spacious and airy. Highly recommended.

Excellent service. I attended a wake and I must have had a magic teapot as it never seemed to get empty. The lady with a green hair tint seemed to sneak a fresh pot onto the table without being noticed! The food was lovely too, and gave us all time to reminisce and mingle without sitting for set courses.

I was taken to the bobbin for afternoon tea it's was all so good and the staff so very helpful . I enjoyed my visit very much .

Was pleasantly surprised by a lovely treat. An afternoon tea platter for two. Generous and tasty sandwiches, cakes, tray bakes and scones. All freshly made and delicious. Will be having that again!

Great breakfast service was great, the cakes were all home made. Think I'm on the road to diabetes. But good value for money so worth it.

We went in for a quick lite lunch, the dinning area is light and spacious, so your not sat with people sat right on top of you! The menu come with a selection of light lunches such as sandwiches, jacket potatoes and toasted muffin, they also serve more substantial meals but I was just looking for something light, so I had the sausage and caramelised onion sandwich which also came with a side salad, The sausage was locally sourced and was fantastic!! So even thou I only went in for a light lunch the cakes...CAKES.. we're looking at me! A selection of homemade cakes with fresh cream and fruits, coffee glazed cream filled donuts, thats what I went for in the end and it was delightful 😊 . If your looking for some where for a nice lunch with amazing staff the bobbin is the place to go, but watch out for them cakes!!

Our visit was disappointing. We came here because the place was highly reviewed. We got 2x Lattes and Bobbin Breakfasts. Our coffee was extremely burnt and bitter, the breakfasts was small for the price, we got 2 eggs, half a sausage, bacon, beans and bread. We weren't asked if we wanted any sauces. The lady didn't speak to us when I was at the till and we had to engage her. I'm just very confused by the visit.

Always a pleasure to visit the Bobbin for both coffee and cake, and lunch. Excellent service and friendly staff. Would recommend popping in with friends.

I was there for a private function and it was lovely, the food was good quality, nicely presented, service was brilliant the waitress was so friendly and attentive, I didn't catch her name but she had blue in her hair. She was very helpful. Highly recommend

We've been coming here for years for afternoon tea or lunch, would highly recommend 1 of the best places in Carlisle. Food is always homemade, fresh n extremely tasty, the staff are always welcoming, lovely, chatty, nothing is too much to ask them

Went here for the first time last week. Great café. Quick friendly service. Reasonable prices and a cosy atmosphere. Food and drink was great too, Bonus! Easy parking and didn't have to wait long for our order. Plenty of room inside as well.

Absolutly lovely cakes, coffee is lovely and attractive to look at. Lovely atmosphere. I noticed other customers having baked potatoes they looked delicious. Lovely place to meet for a coffee and a chat, very spacious. Wheelchair access and space round the table is very good. Just a nice place with nice staff.

Part of this cafe is lovely, spacious and relaxing but the room next to where you order food etc seems cold and unappealing. It just needs to feel more loved in there. Food very good and staff pleasant.

Finally popped in to see what the cafe at Linton Tweeds has to offer. A very spacious, clean, and bright café with friendly, helpful staff who clearly had good rapport with the regulars. A good range of sweet and savoury food choices, coffee, teas, and soft drinks, too. The facilities were very clean. Fully accessible with disabled and baby changing facilities. I'm going to need to go back to try the sweet stuff, having opted for the cheese scone and Earl Grey Tea today.

This is a lovely cafe , reasonable priced all home made the staff are lovely , carina is a real asset to the place! very friendly and cares about the staff , all the staff are nice , toasted muffins are lovely the ham’s good quality .

I was very lucky to win the beautiful afternoon tea competition at the bobbin. We had a beautiful homemade afternoon tea which was truly scrumptious 😋 I would highly recommend the food here it was amazing.

I visited Bobbins for the first time with my wife and daughter yesterday, and it will be my last. We were standing in the queue only to be shouted at from behind the counter by who I assume was the senior member of staff , "have you got a table, if you haven't you can't order" she looked at me like I had two heads , I would have quite happily walked out there and then ,but my wife said we would take out. Anyway she must have realised my anger because she said that a table was free in the corner. The Food Was ok, I have definitely had better and cheaper elsewhere, I won't be rushing back anytime soon. My advise would be go to the Town Centre, much better Coffee shops and Café s there, with a more attentive and welcoming manager.

Spacious, with a textile shop included. Great coffee from local firm John Watt and a great range of both savoury and sweet treats - the lemon and blueberry sponge was gorgeous.

Excellent food! I had their Festive Roll with gravy and I would absolutely recommend. When I visited it was quiet, but often it's extremely busy when walking past. The staff are really friendly, I can be awkward going into a new place but they were super approachable!

Lovely lunch. Toasted muffin with Cumberland sausage and cheese. Great place to sit and catch up with friends.

Not a good selection of home made hot food only jacket potatoes but they aren't exactly home made it's all sandwich based but the premises are very nice and clean .

Doesn't open until 0930 which is a shame. They don't serve a set English breakfast but can create one easily enough. Nice food and good service.

We like the Bobbin; the cheese scones are lovely. Coffee is good too. The gift shop has less gifts which is a shame but still sells tweed material of all designs. Loved the tweed purses.

Stopped here for coffee, served quickly and coffees brought to table. Prices are good. Staff are friendly. Quiet at the pre lunchtime visit I made. One good feature not available everywhere was the offer of cream with the coffee.

Just had a lovely Ploughman's roll and pot of tea in a rather out of the way café. The meal was exceptional and whilst the surroundings may not be the best I have been in, they do the job. There is a chair to sit on and a table to eat off. The quality of the ingredients is first class and balanced to the meal, something that has obviously been investigated. The ingredients were very fresh and the meal as a whole was reasonably priced. Staff at the café were very helpful and cheerful even though the place looked almost full. If you go there you will not be disappointed but look through the window first, You get what you ask for and if the place is full then that gives you an idea of its popularity. BTW If cafes like this can price a meal to this level why oh! why do other places have to charge two and three time the price. Just saying!

Spacious cafe with a good menu, sandwiches, soup, jacket potatoes, toasted teacakes, scones and a lovely selection of homemade cakes and desserts. All you need for a lunchtime treat.

Couldn’t fault the team today, great coffee and hot chocolate and the food was superb. Spoke to a member of staff who was helpful and the whole team couldn’t of been any more accommodating. Great food/drink and deffo leave room for cake!

Food delicious, service excellent. However only gave 4 stars due to doors being propped open, making it chilly sitting, especially as it was a particularly cold day

I booked the conservatory room here for my friends baby shower which we had yesterday and just wanted to say a big thankyou to the The Bobbin... the room was perfect... the food was lovely and the staff were amazing!

Pleasant cafe in a strange place!

A beautiful spacious cafe with very quick service. Such a varied menu, I can highly recommend the brie & cranberry toasties and the Kinder Bueno latte! I was so pleased to see plenty of Gluten Free options, including cakes. My friend and I really enjoyed the Brownie and Banana and chocolate slice, I even had to get some extra to take away. We will definitely be back!

Such a great little coffee shop, with the most amazing cakes. I had English muffin with sausage and melted cheese it came with salad and the best potato salad I've ever eaten. I ate my sisters portions too it was so good. Then I had lemon meringue pie , this was delicious together with an Americano, prices were reasonable too. Strict covid guidelines in place we booked to ensure we had a table. It was lovely seeing it still very popular.

Lovely freshly made soup and cheese scone. Delicious. Well spaced tables, table service and one-way system, also outside space on a warm day, so very Covid friendly.

Had takeaway afternoon tea for 5 people £7.50 per head absolutely gorgeous really good value. Highly recommended. Have a good Covid-19 system in place.

Called for a lite lunch today and was blown away by the quality of the food along with the service that we received. The staff there were fantastic and kept to the Governments COV'D guidelines, well done to management and staff.

Friendly, courteous staff. Great food & amazing display of cakes/desserts. Carefully managed during this time of covid. A definite favourite with car park at back

The staff are great, the menu is good, and the food is amazing. I took some friends for lunch there one Saturday, and they requested to go back the next time they came to stay. If that isn't a good recommendation, I don't know what is.

Just a heads up for anyone purchasing Afternoon Tea vouchers to use in or around Carlisle. Castlegate, The Halston and Skitby House are kind enough to allow the vouchers to be used against other food in their premises whereas The Bobbin unfortunately insist that the vouchers must be used for the afternoon tea only. We tried there today to use them against lunch but it was flatly refused. We used our Castlegate Afternoon Tea vouchers against lunches in Castlegate, Castle Street, Carlisle on 2 separate occasions recently. The Manager was only too pleased to accommodate us and the staff there are so welcoming and friendly I cannot recommend them enough. I really can’t understand this being a problem at The Bobbin.

Nice pleasant place to sit and chat,easy parking good food friendly staff.

Lovely food, can't fault it and plenty of it, however what let's the eatery down is the long queues to place your order, and secondly the cutlery is so old, and thin it was like trying to eat with oven foil in the shape of a knife and fork. Next time l choose to eat there I'm bringing my own.

Nice staff, nice food but let down by the cutlery which is abysmal. Get your act together and renew as soon as possible.
