Me and my wife went there on Sunday the 15th of October with our 2 dog. lovely welcome from the staff .we decided to order food and that when it went down hill we order the steak pie and chips with veg it was absolutely disgusting we had to feed the food to the dogs when they weren’t looking i was a bit braver and eat a bit more than my wife . It is the 19th of October and I’ve had just got over the bad stomach , (I won’t be rude )I’ve not been work until today because I’ve been so ill and I recommend that no one should eat there and this place should be reported. And it was a walk in The google account was in my sons name !

My buddy, Steve and I from the US, were on our Hadrian Wall walk. It was lunch time when we ran into this amazing pub. We were early, so the host gave us a cool tour of the establishment while talking about its history. Stops as this added to the enrichment of our trek which we successfully completed.

We dropped in as the pub sits happily on the Hadrian's Wall trail. We (me and the dog) received an incredibly warm welcome. I had a couple of pints of a superb local ale and my pup was treated to a handful of treats and her own bowl of fresh water! We sat outside and chatted to other hikers, so there was a great atmosphere! The staff were very friendly and even ensured we had water for the remainder of our journey. Top place and highly recommended to hikers on the trail!

We arrived on the spare of the moment, and were given a very friendly welcome, we ordered the fish n chips and peas and steak pie and chips and vegtables. The service from the staff was exemplary and of a very high standard, Audrey and myself will certainly be visiting The Stag Inn again. I couldn't leave without sampling the Sticky toffee pudding and ice cream, which finished off our meal perfectly, Audrey said she was already full but I persuaded her to share the dessert, which the kind staff provided with 2 spoons. The drinks were great too. I recommend everyone to give it a try, as you will not be disappointed. This Inn is dog friendly too. 👍

We stayed at The Stag Inn at the weekend, in Low Crosby near Carlisle. It was our best stop over so far. Free parking at rear of pub. Nothing was too much, even catered for our puppy, Eddie. We got there just after 8, even though they stop serving food at 8, we were still able to order food. The steak pie was probably the best steak pie we'd ever had, and we were even offered dessert. Breakfast was a true belly buster, really nice too. We said we will be back for a visit in June, but I can see it being sooner. Thanks to all of the staff and guests who made us feel really welcome. Keep up the good work and see yous soon. Nat, rob and Eddie.

A lovely little rural pub with a outdoor seating area and off street parking. Has a lovely old feel to it with exposed wooden beams and a nice cosy feel to it. I went with my partner for a private function where they closed the pub just for our group and it was very pleasant. The food was a homemade finger buffet type thing but there was more then enough for us all and the selection of drinks was excellent, my only gripe (and it a very minor one to most) is i would have liked a selection of alcohol free drinks other then the usual tea, coffee, soft drinks. (UPDATE i must of not seen the drinks or mistook them..... didnt ask because the gentleman serving us was busy so thats my bad, sorry) As of this review ive been told its been taken over by a local couple who are respected in the village and are putting there all into it and it shows, if your in the area give it a try and you may just find its one of the "hidden gems" you sometimes find off the beaten track.

While on holiday in in the lakes at a nearby village (Allonby), myself and my partner visited the Stag twice. Once was with my partner's son and girlfriend. The second was just myself and my partner. Both times we had top shelf food and service. We we're utterly pampered. The second time we went I had the Lamb stuffed with haggis. It was a culinary stroke of genius. What a dish! Everyone had a great time.Great portion sizes and fantastic food. we will definitely be booking again next year for our holidays. 10 out of 10 (particularly for the inspired lamb stuffed with haggis - superb!)

As part of a large walking group for a charity event we had arranged to meet at this pub as one large group. The old man inside behind the bar was very rude and just wanted to make arrogant comments about us using his empty car park.We pointed out we were there ahead of the group and not just to use his car park and that the full group would be eating there to which he shrugged and continued Being arrogant.Totally lacking in any kind of customer service and hospitality.Well done stag inn you’ve just lost what I believe would have been a nice little profit from 30 hungry walkers. We have diverted the group and headed to friendlier location Eden golf club.

Having since seen a number of reviews of this establishment I would guess that the cuisine and locally brewed beers are very good, however on this occasion (a Tuesday) the Inn was shut (Mon/ Tues each week) so I did not get a chance to sample such delights. However I did experience what appears to be the landlord’s well documented stroppy attitude towards those of us walking the Hadrians Wall path as the pub runs along side it in the picturesque village of Crosby on Eden. Having realised the Inn was indeed closed having specifically gone there for lunch and a pint we innocently stopped at one of the benches outside the inn for a quick break.Shortly after this the landlord appeared, informed us we were trespassing and looking very annoyed explained he was ‘fed up with us lot’ and told us to clear off. I now assume having seen other comments ‘us lot’ referred to anyone walking the HW path.I feel very sorry that a lot of foreign visitors that come to the U.K. and visit the very beautiful area of Cumbria have been confronted by this who clearly has no idea about the service industry and how important the national trails are to the tourist industry and financial infrastructure of northern rural communities, very poor attitude I also notice that they have replied to some reviews previously so look forward in anticipation, not impressed by small minded & angry landlord.

A short distance out of Carlisle on our hike of the Hadrian's Wall Path we were happy to come across The Stag Inn in Crosby-on-Eden. The staff was very welcoming and the refreshments were good. With us living in Scotland its been quite some time since we've eaten in the 'Stag Inn'. The bar and restaurant have been completely revamped since the floods a couple of years ago. When you walk through the front door the first thing you notice is the log fire which made it feel very homely. We timed our visit well as they had what you would call a 'Happy Hour' on a Wednesday & Thursday night which covered a variety of main course dishes at £6.50p a head. Three of us went for their home made mince pie which was fantastic, accompanied by their home made chips and veg. When we had finished we were asked if we wanted a dessert, but we all declined as we couldn't eat another morsel. We would certainly recommend the Stag Inn to friends and family and will certainly be back again in the future. Complements to the owners and staff that looked after us last night.

The pub is closed on Monday, the day we stopped. A group of four Hadrian's wall walkers / beer drinkers had hoped to sample some local brews while munching on sandwiches. Since the pub was shut, we sat at the picnic table outside. While there was sign saying 'tables are for customers use only' we thought that, since it was closed, sitting for 20 minutes would be ok, apparently it isn't. A very disgruntled landlord appeared after a few minutes and brusquely demanded we leave. Despite making the point, that if he were open, we would have been customers, he was insistent, so we indeed left! Let this be a warning to other walkers...

Took 30 minutes to take our food order and another 30 minutes for starters. No one came to clear plates or ask us if we wanted more drinks in between courses/ when serving food. Mains eventually came - no one asked if our meals were ok or if we wanted condiments with our roasts. Had to keep attracting attention of servers. Eventually they said they’d come back to take drinks orders - didn’t happen. Ordered desserts and was promised they were straight to serve - another 30 minutes. We complained about the service a few times and got a pathetic “sorry”. There were plenty of servers and chefs - other tables turned over quickly so not sure why we we were invisible. Thankfully the 4 young children we had with us were amazing - maybe if they hadn’t been we’d have been served quicker?! 🤷🏽♀️
