This is such a lovely pub, good sized carpark. Dog friendly and even on a Sunday lunchtime they let us buy some bowls of chips.

Revisited after a summer 2023 visit. Lovely village pub however this time we found the grass garden had more dog mess than grass visible and gravel had more weeds than stone. A little TLC would make it a very nice location to stop with the dogs mid/post walk. Staff ignored us at the bar until we asked if we could order drinks. Went next door in the end!

We were welcomed by the staff warmly but unfortunately it all went down from here, two tables can in after us (we were a table of only 2) there drinks orders and food arrived before ours, our drinks order and food orders were both lost and when our food arrived items where missing that had to also then be requested. It is a big shame the service was so bad as the pub is lovely and that just let it down.

Visited for Sunday lunch Inside of restaurant and look of food very pleasant. Taste was just ok, nothing special. Service not great or welcoming. No one came to ask at any point if our food was ok or if we needed anything else. I have had part of my stomach removed due to health reasons and I am unable to to manage even a child’s portion. I asked if I was able to order a child’s roast and was told this was not allowed. First restaurant I have ever been to that has refused this request. Roast came out asked if we wanted any sauces we requested mint sauce and cranberry to which they had neither which was disappointing. Desert we ordered a sticky toffee pudding which was expected to come with clotted cream ice cream but was replaced with rum and raisin. Managed to track down a waitress who we asked to swap the ice cream for what it was meant to come with and they came back and said they didn’t have any but we could swap for vanilla or honeycomb. It’s a shame this was not asked at time of order as we had eaten the pudding by the time.

Booked a table for sunday lunch. We were ignored by all three members of staff until we spoke first. The man at the bar pointed to a high table crammed into a corner in an inaccessible bench to climb on to. Though in our 70s we are both quite fit people. But this was a a challenge as there were armchairs in the way. There were no foot tests so our legs were dangling in the air. The table top was sticky with no cutlery. I can't comment on the food because we left

A real shame to rate this 2 stars rather than 5. My husband and friends organised my baby shower here on Sunday 5th November as a surprise and we had a wonderful time. The venue was beautiful (we used the barn) and the food was lovely however no one came and spoke to us the entire day. The reason for the 2 star rating comes from a rude and abrupt phone call from Selena demanding my husband paid that day (he of course was happy to pay that day, he had however just just tidied a venue, said goodbye to 20 guests, taken home 2 elderly ladies back home, and made sure his 36 week pregnant wife was home too. Upon the phone call he was sent a bill for over £400.. we had been charged the £22.95 buffet option rather than £12.95 - luckily we had in writing that was had requested this option as my husband was accused by Selena of LYING as she claimed she had called my husband on the 18th October and confirmed with him this was the buffet of choice. This of course was not true, and no phone records showed any evidence of this. By this point my husband very calmly explained that’s not true to which the response was ‘well the bill is £200 more so it needs to be sorted’ low and behold… Selena speaks to the manager who then agrees our correct price and a chunk of money comes off the bill.. but not quite the amount we expect. When questioned, the service charge had been left on! We didn’t have any service all day? No one spoke to us, helped us, checked we were okay, gave us any indication we needed to order a drink at the bar, embarrassing. We removed this and paid the bill to which my husband received a meak ‘thanks for your understanding’ not entirely sure that’s an apology but oh well. Monday arrives, my mother in law says she has left her card at the pelican. No phone call answered, voice mail left and no call back all day or evening. So now we have no idea if a card has been handed in or not. Unacceptable and quite frankly feels personal after the way we were treated Sunday. Such a shame, I would love to come back here for future events but I don’t feel like I would sadly after our experience.

Lady that served us was great, service was prompt & the food was excellent. It was quiet when we were in there given it was 5pm on a Thursday (we did book) but still had a nice warm cosy atmosphere. Also reasonably priced. A really different menu for a pub which was refreshing to see, good kids menu and available highchairs. Would definitely visit again and recommend! Checked the website this morning and set off for lunch. Arrived each table set with knives and forks at each place setting. Lady behind bar and only a few tables with customers but it is early not far gone 12.30pm order glass of wine and a pint of cider and I look for menus - children’s menu is on the bar as is drinks menu say out loud to my husband in front of the lady behind the bar can only find the children’s menu can you ask - nobody else at bar and not noisy - my wine is put on bar and she is struggling to get a pint of cider - husband asks for menu told “the kitchen is closed until 5pm” - my husband says as you are struggling to get the cider out and no food just a half and a bag of crisps - if we had known no food wouldn’t have ordered a drink. Sat down to the right of the bar and table in the corner received their food order. We both say - oh did they close the kitchen at 12.30pm then how odd. Drink and get up to go lady who served us is giving menus out to table in left hand window corner (when we arrived that table was in use by children colouring) we wait and ask - you told us the kitchen was closed until 5pm - told it is unless you have booked but you could have had chips. Say you didn’t tell us that you specifically said it was closed until 5pm you watched us looking for the menu and you served us a bag of crisps instead - told not my fault the manager told me to say that. Appalling behaviour Butcome pubs should be ashamed.

Went in for food with 3 other friends, 2 of which got there before us.To start with a Pint of beer was ordered by my pal This was cloudy and smelled terrible. My friend had to point out the obvious when the barmaid should have known! My friend then ordered a meal which was accompanied by bread for over £4 he had to argue that he didn’t want it and didn’t want to pay for it. I unbeknown at the time ordered when we arrived the same beer. The beer came cloudy and smelled of vinegar. The barmaid, after checking the barrel confirmed it was the end of said barrel. DID IT REALLY NEED CHECKING TO ESTABLISH THIS?! I ordered gammon, I didn’t want the pineapple and asked for an additional egg instead. The barmaid bluntly told me this couldn’t be done as the cost of an egg is far greater than the pineapple! Given four of us were eating and drinking this was petty! Overall the service was amateurish and unprofessional! We stay locally often for fishing I will not frequent the pelican again! Or rather the ‘PELICANT!’

We came here for a big family meal but despite booking in advance, they didn't have many items available on the menu. Skins on fries were supposed to come with meals, instead, we were served what was obviously oven chips we could've bought ourselves in tesco. Adults meals were served with beans instead of the salad or coleslaw they were supposed to come with. My sister in law had fish and chips, she said it tasted of dishwater. No one was overly impressed. We had also signed up to receive the 20% discount, which was honoured, but then added back on to the bill as a service charge (which is supposed to be optional, but we weren't given the option). Unfortunately it was very disappointing. Fish batter was very very heavy and not enjoyable. Asked for salad instead of chips (originally wanted just lettuce and tomato from the light option) but was told I could have a side salad instead of chips. My fault as I should have asked for dressing on the side but when it came it was dredged in oily dressing which wasn't pleasant. I barely ate my food. I was asked if everything was OK. Given I had barely eaten she didn't ask any further. But also I didn't say anything as it was evident and I was with my elderly father and we needed to get him home. My partner had the white bait and calamari. The batter on the calamari was just s a bit flaccid for my taste. Liked the bloody Mary ketchup, though. The beetroot salad was a bit of a damp squib. The feta crumbled.not whipped and lacking flavor and the dressing nowhere to be seen. The sticky date pudding was also a bit of a letdown. The pud itself was more like a steamed sponge. Sticky implies gooey crispy bits. None of that here. The ginger bread ice cream was downright delicious, though, and the rum butterscotch sauce was yummy. Frequently meet friends here, food is great and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and easy going. We use Butcome loyalty and tend to dine on a Wednesday when you get a percentage off, this has amounted to a free meal a year, so well worth doing! Overall, great little spot.

They were serving a pizza only menu due to lack of staff, but it still took over an hour to get our food. The food was good, but not worth the wait or the price.

We ordered a grazing plate for 2 people to share. Well 3 wings, 3 of everything. Share for 2!! Surely this mean 2 people. Why have only 3 of something??????. Food wasn't that great. Probably won't b
