I recently had Sunday lunch here, 3. Bird roast. With mash and green veg. Add to drink there was. Sub adorable. Local ale. I would definitely. Return here and I would love to try the puddings. I did not have time for this, on my first visit.

Lovely meal and a wonderful, cosy village pub feel. Photo doesn’t do it justice but I had the pheasant schnitzel which was delicious. Hopefully we’ll be back!

Absolutely fantastic evening at the Ring - O - Bells in Compton Martin to usher the New Year in. We are so happy that we chose this place to celebrate. Great atmosphere on arrival with a good party vibe. Staff were wonderful and made us feel very welcome. The food was first class and genuinely every bit as good as I have enjoyed at Michelin starred restaurants - delicious and fitting of a New Years celebration. Great disco afterwards to usher in 2025. The Ring-O-Bells is always a good bet for a bite to eat and good beer, but this was special and great value for money for a New Year bash

An absolutely lovely pub/restaurant, I visited in December with my son and his girlfriend as we had an Airbnb nearby. Fantastic beers and drinks and the food was superb. Add to that the brilliant and friendly service from the staff this place is definitely in my top 5 pubs. I live in Surrey but this place is so good I took my daughter and her 2 kids from Bristol to it 2 weeks ago and again everything was lovely. Children and dog friendly as well . Keep up the great work, I'll be visiting again for sure!

We had a great Sunday lunch. Despite the pub being a person down in the Kitchen which caused slight delays, the front of house staff were very welcoming and friendly and explained the situation. If was very busy but the wsit wasn't too long. They automatically took off the service charge to take account of the delay which we chose to add back on as the staff were so friendly even under stress. A lovely meal.

We stayed for one night in January 2025 to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday and were joined by family for dinner. The food and service were excellent and my dinner was the best pub meal I have had in years. The room was warm, clean and comfortable. The breakfast included in the room rate was also outstanding.

Booked for a xmas lunch in December, unfortunately one of our party was ill so rearranged for January, again we had to change to a different day due to other commitments. On both occasions when we rang to apologise for not being able to make it the person on the phone was very understanding and just changed the dates with no fuss, when we did finally get there the food was excellent and the staff were above and beyond helpful, will definitely visit again and would recommend to anyone 😀

We were given a table at short notce over the xmas period. The roast was exceptional and the staff friendly and attentive. I would recommend to all my family and friends.

Unfortunately there was a party of people nearby who were incredibly loud and their voices and conversation were intrusive.

A fab location for a Christmas lunch with friends. Food was lovely , pub christmasy and cosy at the same time

I booked this place last minute, just before Christmas. The lady who I spoke with over the telephone couldn't have been more accommodating. She had three tables placed together for our party of 10. The pub has a beautiful traditional setting, with an open fire. The staff are very helpful and friendly and made us feel extremely welcome. The food is fantastic with lots of flavours and choice. I would highly recommend this place.

Service was extremely poor, staff seemed to be interested only in customers in the main bar area. The food was not good, soup to start was lukewarm and the cauliflower looked like it was past its day. The turkey dinner was awful vegetables disappointing and no stuffing nor roast potatoes, the turkey was served as lion wrapped in bacon and was raw in the middle, everything was tasteless and again lukewarm. Vegetarian option poor and when we enquired to change as the website gave other options they were not aware of this. All in all extremely disappointing for £84. We most certainly won’t be opening the golden ticket as we will not return.

This is a lovely place to eat with wonderful service and , of course, food. The menu is more exciting than many places around here it is both creative and well presented. Great beers and wine

Despite being a Butcombe fan, had never visited the Ring O Bells before. Found it to be every bit as delightful as its stablemates with a warm welcome, great menu and accompanying drinks; the Christmas Pie was very good with the Chris Moose ale. We will certainly be returning here as we are often out and about in the Mendip Hills.

Excellent service and really good atmosphere. The food was very good and well presented. On a personal note I did not enjoy the Chocolate Rice pudding i should have chosen the crumble which I usually have and is excellent.

Lovely friendly atmosphere, good food!

For three years running my wife and I have attended our club's annual Christmas evening meal at The Ring O' Bells. We had excellent meals and service in 2022 and 2023. By contrast, this year's food was awful and the service slow and chaotic. As seems to be the norm for larger groups these days, we had to choose from a limited menu three weeks in advance. The kitchen therefore knew exactly how many of each dish would be required on the night. When service eventually started, it took a full 15 minutes between the first and last person being served on our table of only eight people. My wife and I had both chosen Ballotine of turkey followed by Christmas pudding. Whilst the portions were generous and flavours good, the main course was only lukewarm. My wife's turkey was undercooked in the middle and mine was served missing its stuffing and Brussels sprouts and with the plate swimming with grease. To add insult to injury, pouring gravy and cranberry sauce were not served until half way through the course - one person had already finished! Dessert service was no better. No cutlery had been set so, in response to diner's requests, the waitress plonked down a handful of spoons at one end of the table and left us to pass them to each other. No dessert forks were even offered. The Christmas pudding was inedible. A cold, pre-formed disc of dense grainy pudding topped with barely warm brandy custard. Neither of us could eat more than a mouthful. Unsurprisingly, the wait for coffees was interminable although they were hot once served. I can only assume there has been a change of management and / or chef at the Ring O' Bells in the past 12 months for such a drop in standards. I'm in my mid-sixties and have consumed many many Christmas meals, both professional and amateur. I'm sorry to say this the worst I have ever eaten in my life. Assuming the club returns next year, I will not be joining them.

We had a very nice lunch at the Ring O' Bells. We picked the whitebait & calamari to start which was very nicely cooked. The three of us all chose from the festive menu and had the turkey and ham hock pie with festive trimmings and gravy. It was a very pleasant meal, nicely cooked and the pub is very warm and inviting. We'd come again and would recommend to anyone.

We had a delicious meal this evening. The staff and landlord were very attentive and friendly. The staff always try hard to make sure the customers are happy. The pub was very busy with a great atmosphere. The fire was roaring and the pub was decorated for Christmas . We have eaten here on many occasions and would highly recommend it.

Lovely pub and the room was very comfortable and had everything you could ask for (apart from milk in the room, but that was a minor issue) lovely atmosphere in the pub and would stay there again - especially if it was a leisure trip rather than business! Thank you x

Stopped at The Ring O Bells, Compton Martin on the way to the theatre in a Bristol with our Grandsons. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. The food was faultless!

Went in for a roast dinner. Booked table on line. We were seated at a high table with high stools. Not the best if u have mobility issues. Ordered the 3 meat roast x 2 with extra gravy. Our food came and my daughters was fine. Mine was swimming in grease/oil. I called the waitress over she was not interested in the slightest and handed me napkins to mop it up. The manager walked past as I was soaking it up and I pointed it out to him and asked what it was and he said it was juice off the carrots as they don't use oil in the kitchen. 4 napkins later I asked for another dinner. Manager took it away and served me my dinner on another plate with fresh gravy and no grease.( same dinner as I'd taken a bite out of one of the potatoes) . My daughter and practically finished hers by now. So anyway I asked for some horseradish and the waitress handed me over a ramekin and I slathered it on and poured the cold jug of gravy over it and took a mouthful only to have a shock as it was mayonnaise she had given me. I was fuming. Called the manager over again. Rude, non apologetic. Offered me a 3rd dinner! I felt sick with the curdled mayo and cold gravy. I refused the dinner. He came back and took my plate and said we wouldn't have to pay. And walked off again. We left and the 3 girls stood around the till looking like they didn't care one bit. No sorry. Totally unapproachable. More training need on customer service, service with a smile and lots more training on condiments. Ruined my day.

Late Sunday roast, superb as always

Always a super place to go and eat. Lovely staff, great and very friendly landlord and delicious food. What more could you want?! I had the hummus starter (omg, some of the best hummus I’ve tasted recently), followed by the fish soup. Yum. I couldn’t fit in a pudding, although I’ve had some of them before and can highly recommend them. I would definitely recommend this super country pub to you; give it a go, you won’t be disappointed!

Extortionate prices! How can you charge nearly £7 a pint? Food is seriously overpriced and really not that nice, we were served a mediocre roast dinner with hard potatoes and burnt yorkie! Bar Staff are rude, they don’t acknowledge you, they make you feel like you are an inconvenience to them. The landlord is just as bad, he can be stood next to you and doesn’t even smile, seems like he is in the wrong industry. Such a shame this pub used to be fabulous, warm & friendly, everyone was welcome. The current landlord needs to sort out his and his staff’s attitude, charge reasonable prices or he will struggle to make any money

We went with friends and our kids for a Sunday Roast, the food was very tasty - good veggie and vegan options too. And we found them very accommodating, even making sure they put the kids meals through straight away so their food came out nice and quick.

We had a really good vegetarian roast that was cooked perfectly. Sadly the service was poor and other elements of the meal weren’t up to the standard of the main dishes. It’s a beautiful pub with a great menu but the service needs a lot of improvement!

An excellent stay and food was superb, compliments to the chef and Stuart and the front of house team, they went all out for our stay and especially for Rebecca's 30th birthday. I would highly recommend this place.

Visited with family to celebrate my youngest son's birthday. Lovely roast dinner and desserts with very generous portions. Service was a little slow, the pub was busy when we arrived at 6pm but not when we left later on.

Cosy atmosphere and the best Sunday roast

Great cosy pub. Super food, best battered fish I've ever had. We stayed the night in a super comfy bed in a lovely warm room. Massive car park and garden.

The good and the main people who appeared to be in charge were great, they were friendly, welcoming and very efficient. The food was really delicious and great portions of really lovely food, the potatoes especially deserved some highlight as they were good and clearly hadn't sat around for ages or been precooked. The only negative was the younger staff who didn't seem especially happy to be there, or really attend the tables. They could have come and tried to sell us more drinks, but there was no check or asking if we had more food. The two staff not it pub polo shirts however we're great especially the lady at the end wearing a cream jumper, who was very good at the end.

What’s not to like, great menu choice, children’s menu fantastic friendly staff

This is a Real delight for eating and spending some relaxing time but we stayed over and that wasn't so good The bed was like a rock (and I'm like the Princess and the pea) It was so hot in room had to open door where every minute the blast chiller kicked into action. The room has a musty smell But was allowed to check in early and use the room to work for the afternoon. It was peaceful and pleasant.

I booked for 4 using the app in the morning and received an email confirming my booking. Easy process. We ( husband and 2 young grandchildren) arrived early and I asked if we could use the play area before our meal. Very polite member of staff informed us we could and he showed us where we would be sitting. After a quick play, we ordered our drinks and food from the bar. The same member of staff served us and although he was busy, nothing was too much trouble. Excellent service. The meal was delivered by an attentive waitress, who engaged with the children. The food was piping hot and nicely presented. It tasted excellent! We were very pleased with the whole experience. Loved the children's menu's offered activities to keep them entertain while waiting for the food to arrive. I would recommend this venue to others and I would like to thank the staff for the wonderful service we received. Thank you.

6 of us had dinner after a fishing trip to Blagdon Lake and the food was superb and service to match! looking forward to returning and thankyou to the manager and staff for making the evening so pleasurable.

A very pleasant one night stay. Wonderful staff and service with great food. There were some really good choices on both the evening and breakfast menus. The atmosphere was a little quiet, but not unexpected for a Monday night. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Absolutely delighted we were lucky enough to get a table for Sunday lunch. The staff were amazing, the food delicious and the wine exemplary. Only drawback a couple of very noisy table with children who were obviously having a “who can speak louder” competition. It is the luck of the draw as to whether you have a normal day or a shouty day and we drew the short straw on the occasion. Would say it wasn’t just the children who found the need to keep raising their voices. That said just the best and so good have just booked for an overnight stay which will factor in another Sunday Lunch, light supper followed next day with an amazing breakfast! Thank you!

Had a nice one night stay there. The room was nicely furnitured and clean but it was a bit moisty. Wouldn’t stay there for too long. The inn has just two rooms. The manager was very friendly. Recommended!

Sunday lunch at Ring o Bells with family. We all had a fab lunch, roast was delicious and plentiful, a lovely Sunday treat.

This is a place that you thought by now resided only in your imagination. I had high expectations before I arrived, and I was not disappointed. It is atmospheric to a degree, sublimely comfortable, beautifully run and managed by lovely people with excellent food and Ales that are a far cry from the mass produced nonsense that you will find elsewhere. The entire crew are actually simply very nice people who know how to do their job properly, I was sorry to leave the following morning ( After a breakfast that would’ve satisfied the most demanding trencherman!) And it is my ambition to return soon with the lovely Susie to enjoy it all over again! Bravo, thank you and well done!

Lovely pub, lovely staff, nice room, great food. Stayed here overnight to catch a flight the next morning from Bristol. Lovely clean room, very friendly staff. Our evening meal was great with 25% discount on a Weds with Butcombe loyalty app! Breakfast was also great - full English with lovely fresh local produce. Only niggles - someone noisily putting out the recycling at 8am right next to our room and hoovering/dragging chairs across the stone floor whilst eating breakfast. I know, it’s picky - but it was mildly annoying! Will definitely stay here again

Lovely feeling pub, great live music in the garden bbq going outside. We ate inside with 2 good menus to choose from and the option of bbq food if wanted. I had the brisket, which was delicious. The others in my party had steak, seabass, and burger and were all equally happy. Nice and dog friendly, fun, and friendly waiting staff who were the right level of attentive. I would definitely go back again.

Lovely menu, lots of choice, something for everyone

Had a lovely steak and enjoyed the quiz night held on the last Thursday of each month. By far one of the best pubs in the chew valley.

We stayed here for one night on a hike along the Monarch’s Way - we were warmly welcomed on arrival and had an excellent evening meal. Cooked breakfast in the morning was equally good. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay and would make a point of stopping here again when we are next in the area.

Booking was easy and the staff were really helpful when we decided we’d prefer to sit inside due to it being a little chilly. All of us had roast dinners which were amazing and really hit the spot.

Great pub and great food, friendly staff and the pork ribs I had were amazing. Owned by local Butcombe brewery with a great selection of fine beers and lagers with B&B available. Lovely garden with another bar where you can sit and catch the last of the evening sun.

There’s a huge gap in the market for a decent pub with a play area for children, the pubs out there are usually really rough with terrible food. This place is an absolute GEM! Great food, beautiful garden with a large play area for children and lovely helpful staff. An absolute hidden gem.

We booked a joint family birthday party for 11. From the start communication was exceptional. We arrived and were greater by staff who took us too our table. The were so friendly and accommodating and attended to our every need. As we had pre ordered our food choices, it was ready as soon as we were. What a marvellous team the kitchen staff are. From starters, main course and onto puddings, each course was a delight and taste sensation, beautifully presented. I honestly can't wait to visit again. We were so well looked after and the food abd drink was superb. I heartily recommend a visit for a meal, drink or as a venue for group celebrations. Our family will return very soon. What a great pub! A bar and a BBQ smoker in the garden - plenty of attentive and able staff to look after us - we had a fabulous time and will definitely be back. Many thanks Stewart - you run a top notch establishment - best food and staff we’ve come across for a long time.

We enjoyed everything about the Ring O Bells in Compton Martin. Chicken Milanese was generous and full of flavour, fish was light and perfectly cooked and the batter was crispy. Our grown up daughter said this was ‘the best burger I’ve ever had’ (and she has extensive experience!) Mini puds also delicious (biscoff donuts and minted chocolate ice cream [two dishes not a combo!]) Service and ambience very pleasant. The fact that we happened to be visiting on a Wednesday when the brewery offers 25% off food if you join their loyalty scheme was the icing on a very tasty cake.

We all really enjoyed our meals - the beef burger, fish and chips, chicken Milanese, truffle fries, biscoff donuts and after eight desert. Genuinely the best pub food I’ve ever had (and I’ve been to many!).

The food was excellent although a bit pricey

We had a great lunch here after visiting Cheddar Gorge. The food and service were first class. A beautiful place for a pleasant meal.

Great find and stop off point on our way back home from holiday. Food is really really good, attentive service and spacious rooms. Nothing much in the village but the pub is very popular with locals filling the large garden area on the evenings we were there
