My partner and I love a Butcombe pub, they are usually spot on, but this one was a little lacking. We stayed for one night and whilst the room was lovely, there is an electric shower with limited pressure! The staff were really sweet, but service was very slow - it wasn't a busy night at all. I ordered a cocktail and has to chase it up 25 mins later, as still hadn't arrived. We ordered the pie, which was good but the fish on the fish and chips was really overcooked, the batter literally cracked in half when I tried to cut into it. Same for breakfast, took a really long time (we were the only people sat down) and the bacon was seriously overcooked. Decor and atmosphere are nice but food and service could improve.

Excellent food and service. We visited one evening just for drinks and to play bananagrams and another night for dinner. When we ate, I had mushroom soup, my partner had the fish cakes. Then I had the chicken schnitzel and fries and my partner had the pie of the week. It was all excellent. Neither of us wanted dessert but after a few rounds of bananagrams, I ordered the biscoff donuts. They were hot and sweet.

A pleasant enough lunch with reasonable mains and excellent olive starter. However, I had to ask for my pint of Haka to be topped up and then discover that is was totally end of barrel and sub-par. It was replaced without question thankfully, and the Original was lovely. It is surprising however that it was even brought to the table as it was clearly not right. The bar staff were young and perhaps needed some training about the ale condition which is so critical to a renowned brewery, of which we Somerset natives, are justifiably proud. So qualified satisfaction here. Thanks for the birthday drinks as well.

We spent two evenings at this pub as it was across the road from our Air BNB. It was a cozy place to have a drink and play games, after spending the day out in the cold. Excellent lunch, both food and service I had kalamari with the lightest tempura batter, followed by delicious, deep layered flavoured mushroom pasta. Next mulled wine poached pear with chestnut cream and homemade honeycomb, exceptional, I could taste the mulling spices in the pear and it wasn't achingly sweet. My partner had his favourites, burger followed by sticky toffee pudding, both superb and he's tried a few :) Prompt but not fussy service, very friendly and informed. History of the buildings was fascinating, thank you for explaining it to us. Goram zero percent is the best no-low beer, and on draught was even better. Service was extremely poor, staff seemed to be interested only in customers in the main bar area. The food was not good, soup to start was lukewarm and the cauliflower looked like it was past its day. The turkey dinner was awful vegetables disappointing and no stuffing nor roast potatoes, the turkey was served as lion wrapped in bacon and was raw in the middle, everything was tasteless and again lukewarm. Vegetarian option poor and when we enquired to change as the website gave other options they were not aware of this. All in all extremely disappointing for £84. We most certainly won’t be opening the golden ticket as we will not return.

For three years running my wife and I have attended our club's annual Christmas evening meal at The Ring O' Bells. We had excellent meals and service in 2022 and 2023. By contrast, this year's food was awful and the service slow and chaotic. As seems to be the norm for larger groups these days, we had to choose from a limited menu three weeks in advance. The kitchen therefore knew exactly how many of each dish would be required on the night. When service eventually started, it took a full 15 minutes between the first and last person being served on our table of only eight people. My wife and I had both chosen Ballotine of turkey followed by Christmas pudding. Whilst the portions were generous and flavours good, the main course was only lukewarm. My wife's turkey was undercooked in the middle and mine was served missing its stuffing and Brussels sprouts and with the plate swimming with grease. To add insult to injury, pouring gravy and cranberry sauce were not served until half way through the course - one person had already finished! Dessert service was no better. No cutlery had been set so, in response to diner's requests, the waitress plonked down a handful of spoons at one end of the table and left us to pass them to each other. No dessert forks were even offered. The Christmas pudding was inedible. A cold, pre-formed disc of dense grainy pudding topped with barely warm brandy custard. Neither of us could eat more than a mouthful. Unsurprisingly, the wait for coffees was interminable although they were hot once served. I can only assume there has been a change of management and / or chef at the Ring O' Bells in the past 12 months for such a drop in standards. I'm in my mid-sixties and have consumed many many Christmas meals, both professional and amateur. I'm sorry to say this the worst I have ever eaten in my life. Assuming the club returns next year, I will not be joining them.

Went in for a roast dinner. Booked table on line. We were seated at a high table with high stools. Not the best if u have mobility issues. Ordered the 3 meat roast x 2 with extra gravy. Our food came and my daughters was fine. Mine was swimming in grease/oil. I called the waitress over she was not interested in the slightest and handed me napkins to mop it up. The manager walked past as I was soaking it up and I pointed it out to him and asked what it was and he said it was juice off the carrots as they don't use oil in the kitchen. 4 napkins later I asked for another dinner. Manager took it away and served me my dinner on another plate with fresh gravy and no grease.( same dinner as I'd taken a bite out of one of the potatoes) . My daughter and practically finished hers by now. So anyway I asked for some horseradish and the waitress handed me over a ramekin and I slathered it on and poured the cold jug of gravy over it and took a mouthful only to have a shock as it was mayonnaise she had given me. I was fuming. Called the manager over again. Rude, non apologetic. Offered me a 3rd dinner! I felt sick with the curdled mayo and cold gravy. I refused the dinner. He came back and took my plate and said we wouldn't have to pay. And walked off again. We left and the 3 girls stood around the till looking like they didn't care one bit. No sorry. Totally unapproachable. More training need on customer service, service with a smile and lots more training on condiments. Ruined my day.

The landlord is just as bad, he can be stood next to you and doesn’t even smile, seems like he is in the wrong industry. I booked for 4 using the app in the morning and received an email confirming my booking. Easy process. We ( husband and 2 young grandchildren) arrived early and I asked if we could use the play area before our meal. Very polite member of staff informed us we could and he showed us where we would be sitting. After a quick play, we ordered our drinks and food from the bar. The same member of staff served us and although he was busy, nothing was too much trouble. Excellent service. The meal was delivered by an attentive waitress, who engaged with the children. The food was piping hot and nicely presented. It tasted excellent! We were very pleased with the whole experience. Loved the children's menu's offered activities to keep them entertain while waiting for the food to arrive. I would recommend this venue to others and I would like to thank the staff for the wonderful service we received. Thank you.

A very pleasant one night stay. Wonderful staff and service with great food. There were some really good choices on both the evening and breakfast menus. The atmosphere was a little quiet, but not unexpected for a Monday night. Would definitely recommend a visit.

What a shambles !!! Given menus when order being taken half of food run out - why the hell weren’t we told or taken off menu Sent steaks back as food cold then obviously had been put in microwave or back on grill as when brought back steak tough & well done - asked for medium rare !!!! These steaks were costing £ 30 😳 Then had to search four tables for salt all salt cellars empty As we were leaving I went to toilet to find excrement floating in bowl told bar man who said he’d pass information on !!! An Other table had sent meals back too Steaks were taken off bill but I felt really uncomfortable with complaining as general I’m pretty easy going believe it or not 🤪 The young Resturant staff were very sweet but obviously found it difficult to deal with complaints bless x Did tip waiting staff

Great experience for Sunday lunch! We had the lovely Rhiannon serving us, the service was quick and very friendly. The portion for the roast dinner was very generous and the beef was very tasty

Did what a pub needed to do. It was a busy Saturday but we got what we needed. The staff was focused and efficient. The beer selection was good.

Fantástica noche aquí acogido por el personal del bar que tuvo una gran canción fue una pena sobre el grupo de 4 clientes individuales al final de la noche jugando personal del bar y negándose a salir gracias por la gran experiencia!
