The Pelham Arms in Portsmouth

We used The Pelham Arms as a post match venue after a game of hockey. We were met with friendly, helpful staff and there was plenty of room for the 30 or so guys who played. We had a reserved area & Dan supplied us with a tasty pot of chilli with tortilla chips, bread, cheese, chips & various sauces. Just what we needed on a cold day! There was plenty of food & Dan & his team were great hosts. The food was great value for money. I would recommend The Pelham Arms if you are organising a function or celebration. Thanks Dan

I had booked a venue for my husband’s surprise 50th birthday party way back in May…knowing that Halloween weekend was going to be busy and would book up quickly. I went to check the venue in the first week of October, only to find they had booked me on the wrong night and had no availability for the date when I had 65-ish guests inbound from all over the country, having booked hotels and made their arrangements! Frantic calling of everywhere we could think of ensued…and unsurprisingly they were all booked. I *was* offered a ‘ballroom’, but since I didn’t have time to sell a kidney on the black market, that was cost prohibitive! So I called my local, The Pelham Arms which is under new management in the last few months, and the Landlord, Dan, could not have been more helpful! - Yes- of course we could have their event room if we didn’t mind ‘sharing’ the DJ and Karaoke with regulars attending the Halloween event in the main bar. - Yes - of course he could price up a buffet for 65 ( to include dietary requirements) - Yes - of course we could use our own catering if we wanted. - Yes - of course they would provide plates, cutlery etc and clear up afterwards He kept in touch in the week before the party to make sure we had everything we needed, and was on hand on the night, despite being busy with his own event. This is the kind of landlord we need in our locals - ones that help their neighbours and their local community. I’m not a big ‘pub-goer’ but I’ll be going in here more often from now on! I can’t thank Dan, Jane and the whole team enough for saving our surprise! Oh…and did I mention…there was no charge?

There was litter all over the garden and at no time was it cleaned up, even when the garden was relatively empty. There were insufficient staff, resulting in slow service and ultimately we had to leave before our third round arrived, so we cancelled our order. We saw 2 glasses broken by customers during our 2 hour visit. One was done deliberately, and was not cleaned up by staff, nor was the culprit reprimanded in any way – because the staff were so overworked they didn’t/hear see it happen. Even when it was pointed out, it didn’t get cleaned up. No food was available at teatime – contrary to the pub’s website. Please, if you’re no longer serving food, update your website. Toilets – no paper towel left, and the small bin for towels was overflowing. We visited 2 very different pubs in 2 very different areas of Portsmouth that night. Service was very slow at both of them. Table service shouldn’t slow things down if you have enough staff on duty – as proved by bars on the continent, in holiday resorts, for many years. Pubs claim they need our business to survive right now, but if they don’t provide swift service and a pleasant, clean environment, that doesn’t provide much incentive for people to return and spend money.

Gran personal, los muchachos locales quieren pelear con todos, qué lástima ya que la banda estuvo fantástica esta noche. Tuve que saltar en un taxi mientras los lugareños se balanceaban por mí, porque tengo el pelo largo. Y yo soy hombre, qué pena. Fuimos a ver colectivos de la costa sur que fueron fantásticos como siempre, pero no volveré por los muchachos locales. Estaba hablando con una joven muy hermosa y claramente no les gustó esto y nos persiguieron a mí y a mi familia fuera del pub. Siendo de essex, he visto este tipo de pubs antes, este fue mi segundo altercado en este pub y solo mi tercera visita. El personal es increíble y es un bar fantástico que se extiende por todo el lugar. Es una pena que esté lleno de pequeños hombres que piensan que lo poseen. También a la hermosa chica que conocí esta noche, me persiguieron, pero estos pequeños muchachos. . . . muchos muchachos pequeños. Me encantaría verte de nuevo x De nuevo el personal fue fantástico

Este fue el lugar perfecto, el buffet era bueno. Encontramos que el salón de actos era el tamaño ideal para nuestros propósitos.

The Pelham Arms is a very large pub in the backstreets of Portsmouth. No real ale is available. Screens showing sport dominate the pub.

Great live music venue and pub. Always have a great nite out here. Good priced drinks. Friendly staff. Has an outside seating/smoking areas

This pub has recently been taken over by new manager and I find him rude and obnoxious, tables were sticky and wasn’t a great feel in the pub. I would like to say the young gentleman who has served us on a Wednesday night was very accomadating and did have a friendly conversation with us, I didn’t catch his name but he was tall with blonde hair, he deserves some recognition.

Visited on a Sunday evening, brilliant atmosphere, very chilled. The bar staff were superb, really friendly. Good selection of beers and wine. Sampled the Jack Rabbit sauvignon blanc, very good. Would thoroughly recommended this pub. P.S. Love the Christmas tree!!!!

Called in on a Sunday lunchtime, not particularly busy at the bar, the restaurant side less so. Ordered the Sunday roast with a choice of beef or pork ,decided on a bit of each,both meats cooked to perfection ,very tasty, lovely crispy potatoes and ample amounts of vegetables ,although the cauliflower only lukewarm the rest steaming hot. Washed down with a nice coffee and even offered a second as the cup not that large. Really good value for money, the service by Matt the chef come waiter excellent , he should take up teaching customer service skills. Shall be returning in the future.

Recently renovated, not a bad pub. Nice garden, always a bouncy castle out for kids. Food is OK Bands playing at weekends. Also have the latest sports on. Pool table available. Central north end.

Nice friendly pub with a chilled laid back atmosphere Good size garden for the kids to play (if we ever get some sun). But generally a nice all round pub .

Visited for the first time on christmas eve with friends. Excellent, friendly atmosphere and all the staff are very good! Will definitely be back.

We visited 31/7/15 on way to ferry terminal. The greeting and service was very friendly and efficient. Just what was needed after hours on the road with 2 young hungry and tired daughters. The food was great value, decent quality and arrived quickly. If you want high quality food and salubrious decor this isn't for you. If you want good basic food, friendly service and great value you should go.

I had the fantastic 16oz rump steak as usual and was perfectly cooked and really well presented. Bar staff are amazing!!! Really good atmosphere will be returning very soon. Cheers guys

On our way to the ferry, stopped off for tea, based on Trip Advisor reviews. Great atmosphere, good food and very friendly and helpful staff.

Cracking value for food on the pic n mix menu everything was cooked lovely, particularly the chicken skewers and jalapeno tatatots were awesome

The food was lovely, just the right amount, great service and friendly staff with enjoyable atmosphere. The large garden was perfect for letting our 6 year old boy play in.

Sólo tenía el monstruo mexicano hamburguesa en el Pelham y no me puedo quejar. Carne de calidad con guacamole y Chile con patatas fritas adecuadas. Fue con tapiales y luché para terminar. Incluso mejor era el hecho de que era comprar uno consigue uno gratis a £6,95 .

Pelham arms is fairly local to me and have had great food in there recently , today I can safely say that I've had my best burger in Portsmouth yet ! You must come and try there Arizona burger pulled pork and a massive juicy homemade burger and to top it off it was buy one get one free today (Friday 3rd ) but for £6.95 anyway it's a mile better than anywhere else in the town . Keep it up Pelham great job be back ASAP !

Walking past the Pelham i noticed they had a 5 star food hygiene so decided to stop with my Girlfreind and children for some dinner. I had a BMLT burger, My girfreind had The Pelham Hot dog and daughter had the kids goujons, I must say it was all Amazing. Brilliant food, Brilliant Staff. Will be coming back alot

Just popped in for a couple of drinks and saw they did food so ordered a burger and some pick and mix for 2 people 15 minutes later enough food for 6 arrived could not eat it all had to give quite a lot away to a families with kids will be back again but will order less next time thank you for a great surprise

What a great and original idea. Basically you can create your own meal out of side dishes. Buckets of wings, ribs, fries and many more. Great value and great service. Highly recommend the bacon, jalapeño tatter totts.

I visited here with a few of my girl's for a catch up. Didn't plan on eating but the menu was too tempting. We had a sharing platter and some burgers. Food was amazing,one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Great value for money. Staff are very pleasant and friendly. Will definately be returning and highly recommend.

Just been in to try the New menu. I was very surprised. it is far better then what you would expect for a back street pub. I defiantly will be visiting again, Great value for money as well. I am very glad there is finally some where to get some very good food in North End.

after my recent visit to the Pelham arms to try there new menu I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised . I ordered the Mexican burger which was lovely , I've since been back and had other food ie the ribs which are amazing best ribs I've had in ages ! Kids meals are great also nice size portions and very reasonably priced . Well done Pelham it's about time North end had somewhere to enjoy good food and a nice beer . Ps staff are always very friendly x

Had an amazing roast dinner with the family. Beef was perfectly cooked and moist. Gravy was rich and delicious and I want the stuffing recipe. Definitely going back during the week to try there new menu. Looks awesome. Well done the pelham arms.

A welcome change to the pub chains. A home made Sunday lunch, tasty and well portioned. Good value. A return visit proved as enjoyable as the first.

Just had a fantastic family & friends gathering,to celebrate our granddaughters christening..almost 100 of us .perfect venue with a fabulous enclosed garden..staff were accommadating,helpful and welcomed us..a real gem of a pub with a really good team .

The roast was the best I have ever had in a pub! I was made to feel welcome the moment I stepped through the door. Staff were friendly and the service was excellent. Have recommended to all my friends.
