Absolutely gorgeous meal! Don’t listen to the previous and recent reviews! Our first visit to The Pearl after a friend recommended it to us. We had, In my opinion, the best takeaway we’ve had for years! Non greasy, non oily, but extremely tasty, freshly cooked and fantastic value for money. The best thing for me was the sweet and sour chicken balls, ( the sauce was perfect and a natural colour, lovely consistency unlike other takeaways in the area) and the pork dumplings, wow, absolute heaven! Also the crispy chilli beef was fab! Highly recommend and will definitely return.

The moment I stepped thro the door I was reticent but thought about all the good reviews. How could anyone give this place a good review? The egg in the fried rice was burnt and the rice dry and lumpy, the duck in ginger was more fat than meat with little veg and just 2 pieces of carrot and 1 slice of ginger. Crab soup a mush and nowhere near the best chicken curry I've had. Cannot recommend The Pearl low enough although the owner seems a very nice chap who adds on extra costs to the prices at will.

Was so looking forward to our takeaway tonight had chilli chips and plain chow mein £15!! The chips were not fresh at all they were so dried out and the chow mein was extremely watery and runny :/ not worth the money unfortunately.

Used to be a gorgeous pub, great atmosphere, food and night out. Walked in today for a takeaway to be greeted with the lights off and staff sat at a table on their phones. Over priced for what we had and for the quality of the food. Chips were dry and obviously reheated and the quality relays throughout the rest of the meal. Such a shame as this could be a top tier restaurant. Fingers crossed for the future.

We have been having takeaway meals from the Pearl for the past few years, and they are always amazing. Satay beef is our absolute favourite, but to be fair most things we’ve had have been top notch. Really friendly and lovely owners, the food is cracking, always a quick turnaround too. Really missed the Pearl over the last lockdown, so so pleased they are open again! Keep at it and thank you!

Recently moved in the area and found this gem by accident. The food is delicious, the owner is very friendly, definitely going back to try everything on the menu! A must try is the crispy chilli beef and the garlic prawns. Even the rice was delicious! By far the best Chinese we've had in a long time!

I will not be buying anymore food from the Pearl Chinese in Leafield. I paid £9.00 for two portions of chips that were burnt and dried out, it looked like they had been microwaved. I phoned the Pearl and I was told to bring them back, but as I had thrown the remainder of the first portion in the bin I took 1 portion back. I was told that I could have another portion which I didn't want. I remained calm and polite, but I was told to f*** off and not to come there ever again by the owner in front of my 9 year old son. I am disgusted in the way I was spoken to and I definitely won't be ordering anymore s*** food from there ever again!!!

Awful and should avoid. Firstly he over charged, he does it by having “These prices can change wiper notice” on the menu and then when showing you the bill he first says “I’ve knocked ... off” then confuses you with a load of Chinese writing. I didn’t realise till he did the same to another couple as I was leaving, checked when I got home and overcharged by around £10. I wouldn’t have minded so much if the food wasn’t AWFUL. Everything had been microwaved and was stuck together, terrible quality. I expect this place to go under in the next couple of months. The owner was telling me business was bad because of Covid but in reality it’s the ripping off his customers and providing terrible food that’s the problem

The Pearl is an excellent local restaurant, providing great quality freshly prepared Chinese food. We previously lived in Oxford and were spoilt for choice when eating out or buying take aways, however The Pearl far surpasses the vast majority of these.

Volveremos

Take the time to escape the Witney marshes and make your way to the uplands of Leafield. Apparently the highest village in Oxfordshire, Leafield hides an absolute gem of a takeaway restaurant, The Pearl. I remember talking to a chef in Paris who told me that he competed against his fellow chefs by preparing his superb cuisine from scratch, the raw and finest ingredients. Not by shipping in pre-prepared or par-boiled meals, heating them through and getting plates delivered to the tables. Oliver at The Pearl takes the same approach as my Paris friend. With an extensive menu, all dishes are prepared from scratch. So you will wait a bit longer for your meals (have a drink at the bar!), you will pay a bit more than the average Chinese takeaway - but I guarantee you won’t regret it. Family favourites include spring rolls (enormous, melt in your mouth), chicken satay, sizzling beef in a BBQ sauce, duck with pineapple and tingly ginger and the rice with chicken and pineapple. I’ve never eaten in the restaurant - the ambience won’t suit everybody - but the takeaways are exquisite. Every time. Thanks Oliver and team - keep up the good work!!

So. . El pollo cuesta £2 poco atractiva. 50 - £4. 50 vs 7 libras. 00.

We've never experienced any negative attitude from the staff. Ask about dishes and you'll get a description. 2 set menus we've had were brilliant. Not one bad dish. Crispy shredded beef is the best I've had. I personally don't go to a restaurant for an atmosphere, you make your own. As long as I can sit, eat and hear conversation I'm happy. The TV in the bar area didn't put me off. 5 for food alone, and consistently excellent food, better than pretty much every Chinese restaurant I've tried in the UK, China town in London included.

Atmosphere " non existent " restaurant has no theme, it's basically a room in an old village pup. Is always cold, ( obvious reason ) during our last and now final visit, the proprietor Oliver, told us after we had finished a starter dish " I'm far to busy with take aways to worry about serving you with the rest of your meal with the little you eat " Prawn crackers are £2.50 for about a dozen, most Chinese restaurants give them away. Seems the proprioter can only see pound signs, he's not interested in customer satisfaction. All in all, very poor, this was not the first time he has been rude, but certainly will be the last, we will not be going again and it's certainly not recommended by me.

We decided to go to the Pearl for a change from the traditional pub fare we'd been eating the week we were staying in the Cotswolds. It was a good move. The restaurant is a converted pub so is a bit different from most Chinese restaurants we've been in.We had dim sum to start with, which was the most flavourful we've probably ever had. It was stunningly good. My wife had Kung Po chicken and I had the king prawn satay and we shared a plate of Singapore noodles. We wished we'd had one each as they were so utterly delicious! The food was magnificent. Beautifully presented, fabulously tasty and just the right amounts. In quite a lot of Chinese restaurants we've been to the food can be a bit bland, but not here, the flavours were marvellous and full-bodied. The service was very friendly and the surroundings are very pleasant. Despite that the food was some of the best Chinese we've ever eaten the cost was great value...starters, mains, beers and tea/coffee for two only came to £45! Living as we do in Edinburgh, we're only sorry we can't go there every week. You've got to try this place. It's superb!

We certainly had fellow diners but the kitchen was so busy with take away orders that they seemed to take precedence and consequently we had to wait an hour for our meal to be served. We chose the set menu for 4 (fish, prawns, beef, chicken and duck) and each course was amazing and plentiful, even though they did forget to serve us the prawn crackers! As regular visitors to the Pearl, our local, I cannot fully describe how warm and welcoming Oliver, Sue and his family are. It is a real pleasure to frequent the Pearl, not simply for its hospitality but the amazing food. The Pearl takes great pride in making dishes to order (whether you sit in the restaurant or take-away) - both are worth the wait. There are those that may look at the prices in comparison with other local Witney takeaways, but to be honest - they are not in the same league as the Pearl - excellent quality and value for money.Upon first visit to the Pearl, you may be a little surprised by its decor - and whilst a little traditional, stay awhile and enjoy the company and the food. Oliver is to be commended upon his hospitality and Sue for her exquisite dishes - and whilst we are fortunate enough to know the entire family, it would not be appropriate to cite the children by name, but nonetheless, both Oliver and Sue should be extremely proud of both children. It is always a great pleasure and delight to visit the Pearl, as so often we are made to feel like long-standing friends stepping in to enjoy some great food.

Wow. Several friends have recommended The Pearl for food, so tonight we brought a takeaway. To start satay chicken and spring rolls. The satay was slightly hotter than I am used to but lovely all the same, the spring rolls were tasty, moist without being soggy and delicious. Beef curry, chicken with broccoli and oyster sauce, a large fried rice and prawn crackers. Lovely. Great flavours to the chicken, loads of broccoli, tasty sauce. The beef was well cooked, not chewy and perfectly spiced. At first we thought the meal was a little pricy, but the portions are huge and we didn't start picking at food an hour after we had eaten, as frequently happens after Chinese food.We will definitely be returning..

Love going on a sunday doesn't matter what time u turn up 2,3, 4, o'clock always waiting to greet u, most Sundays only a couple of people in there. Saturdays can be quite busy. Do lots of takeaways. You must give it a try.

A real gem. Had a lovely meal tonight & Oliver and Sue were so nice. No frills but great honest food and we will be going back soon. Great for my wife who's a veggie. She said the Aubergine dish was the most flavoursome Chinese dish she has had.

This is a 'pearl' in the foody world. Tucked away in a village outside Witney, Oxon, it may not be on your radar but do look it up...The food is fantastic and if there is something you would like to tweak, just ask, Sue, the chef, is only too happy to oblige. A wide-ranging menu ensures all have a difficult task of what to choose but be assured, you will not be disappointed whatever your choice. Takeaways also available.

Consistently excellent Chinese food in an unexpectedly rural location. Much better than the Chinese restaurants in the nearby towns of Burford and Chipping Norton, and always a very warm welcome from the owners. I thoroughly recommend it.

We decided to try our "Local Chinese Restaurant" The Pearl, in Leafield Oxfordshire, nestling as it does in the middle of the Ancient Wychwood Forest. It just happened to be our Wedding Anniversary and it is very local to us, although we have never been there whilst it has been a Restaurant, visited a few times in it's former role as a village pub, once called the Spindleberry , and a few other names that escape me at present. It was not too busy on the evening we came here, the staff greeted us very warmly and we looked at the menu whilst drinks were brought to our table, we did not have to wait long for our Delicious meal to arrive, the portions were very generous and appetising to see, all in all a very pleasant experience ,we will definitely be using this venue again.

Whilst on an overnight visit to the area, my wife and I stumbled across the Pearl by accident. We decided to try it as we were both hungry. Are we glad we did, it was superb. We were made to feel really welcome. The hot and Sour soup really does live up to its name, and the rest of the food we chose from the menu was fantastic, by far the best Chinese food I have had in a long while. I would definitely recommend this Chinese restaurant to friends and family. I just wished I lived closer...

Having lived in too many counties to count and often been disappointed by Chinese restaurant offerings, my family and I feel very lucky to have The Pearl as our local Chinese restaurant. We are always made to feel extremely welcome (even with our 5 year old son) and have yet to be let down with any of the menu choices. It makes me feel hungry just to think about it....

Been to this restaurant on many occasions and had fab food and service every time, all ways made us so welcome and friendly, we went on the first night they opened and keep going back as have not found another Chinese restaurant around this area that can produce food as tasty as the pearl. I think people don't know much about this place, but it's a a big must try it out soon.

Visited on a recommendation for an evening meal. Our party was one of only two, which I found strange for a Saturday night. Nonetheless, the menu offered lots of different choices, most of which were around £8. Drinks were averagely priced. We ordered starters and mains, which took a good 25 minutes to arrive. Portion sizes were smaller than what you would get from a takeaway. I sampled a few of the dishes, all of which tasted like your average Chinese food, nothing special. Service was good initially, we were seated and had our orders taken promptly. However, there were no napkins on the table, and limited cutlery. The venue was also very quiet, despite our chatter. We requested some music on, as had noticed a CD player nearby. However, we were told we couldn't as, presumably the waiters child, was playing a video game on the large tv at the front of the restaurant and wouldn't be able to hear. Surely paying customers have priority over an employees child playing a video game? Additionally, the decor appeared tatty and almost felt as if we were invading someone's living room (tv, video game console on etc)!Only once was two members of our party offered more drinks. No one else was asked. All in all, a very average experience, would not return and would rather order larger portions for cheaper prices from our local takeaway and enjoy at home.

We have been reguulary to this restaurant over the past 3yrs and have never had anything but fantastic Chinese food. The owners, Sue & Oliver do their upmost to make you feel welcome wether your eating or just having a drink at the bar.The quality of the ingredients used and the passion. in the kitchen is evedent in the dishes served. Dim-Sums are made fresh (in house) and Chinese beer is on-tap.Decor and atmosphere is not as good as some oriental restaurants (you can make your own atmosphere) Everything is clean/tidy and the food quality makes up for this. Definitely worth a visit.Take Away is also available.

I stopped using Rainbow House about 15 years ago after a few bad meals. Decided to give it another go earlier this week as I read it was under new ownership but this may have been a while ago. Its a shame as the Capital Spareribs sauce was a lovely sweet and sour sauce with added punch, but the ribs were way over cooked and dry. I had the chicken battered balls and sweet and sour sauce but this lacked flavour and the batter was awful - not crisp and slightly sponge like. The chicken inside was very bland and over cooked. . A waste of £24

I used to go to the dragon house regularly 15 odd years ago, circumstances changed and I hadn't been in over a decade. Decided to pop in for a quick and easy lunch. Really tasty food, good selection, and very reasonable price. Had chips rice and sauce. Enough to be really filling and less than £5.

The service was great, but that's where it ends. The most bland and tasteless take away I've had in years. Why do only awful Chinese restaurants accept card.

Lovely food as always and the guy on front desk is a credit to your business, he is kind, friendly and welcoming. The only thing that could be improved is that you start taking card payments as I don't normally have cash 🙂
