JPL Peking Express in West Oxfordshire

The service was great, but that's where it ends. The most bland and tasteless take away I've had in years. Why do only awful Chinese restaurants accept card.

Chicken and mushroom soup was very watered down chicken stock and 4 small strips of chicken and a few button mushrooms floating on top, no Chinese mushrooms to be seen, tasted awful so I threw it away, will not be ordering that again.....you would think if it's a Chinese takeaway they would use Chinese products ie shitake and oyster mushrooms etc in their soups, but nope just cheap English ones....dietary restrictions are very limited, I ended up with the soup and a very small sausage as Im diabetic and most of their dishes are not suitable to eat for me.

Large order placed for the family, food arrived quickly and was piping hot. Decent portion size and the food cooked well. Very pleased and I would recommend JPL Carterton.

1/5 had chicken noodle soup which had little to no broth and was basically dry noodles and chicken. Also had Singapore Rice Noodles which lacked flavour and hardly any meat! Would instead recommend Peking Chef in Witney!

My first Chinese in years and unfortunately very disappointing, plain chowmein was lovely as were the banana fritters, however I asked for special fried rice ,which was like boiled rice with a few bits in, no sauce or layers of meat etc like I have had previously from other shops, sweet & sour chicken balls were quite small and a little gristly feeling in the mouth, sauce quite vinegary. I wouldn’t order from this shop again sorry, but the delivery was quick and olive and the order taker was also lovely.

Worse food by far iv had since moving to Carterton most tasteless iv ever had, sauces are like warm water no flavour, noodles are like soup and over cooked to the point they are sticky

Hate leaving negative comments but we had a set meal for 3 and it was awful. There is no seasoning on the food and most dishes are served in a tasteless gluey slop. I would say more than half of the food was inedible. Rice and prawn balls were however ok and prawn crackers were very good. Very friendly lady behind the counter. Very disappointed and would not recommend sadly.

Their food gave me such bad food poisoning I couldn’t get out of bed for two days! The special fried rice tasted so bad to the point I threw it away worried it would make me sick! Do not eat here, there are much better options in Carterton centre!!

Cheap and arrived quickly but it was really bland. We all ordered different dishes and none of them had much taste.

I am really surprised that this place has a 4 star rating. I never usually feel the need to ever give a review as I have basic expectations, however the food from this place is under seasoned, with thin tasteless sauce. We had beef chop suey, which was completely tasteless, seshwan chicken which was a bit more tasteful but my 13 year old daughter could have rustled up something more tasty (and that is saying something). The ribs were just full of fat and a waste of my jaw. Good thing... the rice was really nice. This is the third time we have ordered from here, each time very disappointing but I didn't feel like cooking tonight and the teenager was demanding chicken friend rice. I suggest they go down to asda and get some Chinese cooking sauces which may improve things. In fact i have some soya sauce in my cupboards I could have whisked down. To be fair, all the Chinese takeaways in carterton deliver shocking food, compared to other towns.... but then carterton is just a soulless, bleak town like its nightlife, takeaways and restaurants (and some people). Ordered over the phone for delivery and spoke to a polite lady, so I was already at ease. My order arrived to my address fifteen minutes later, perfect to the order, hot and delicious, with a smile from the deliveryman. Very pleased and will order again 😊

Thank you to the staff here at Peking Express, the young lady answering the phone was pleasant, helpful and patient, as for the food, well, it arrived so quick it caught us off guard, was very tasty and well worth the price, as I said, thanks to all there.

Our house is divided on this, but you can’t get better that this take away. If the deliver they are always way earlier than they estimate and if you collect, the food is always ready when they say it will be. I love their capital prawns, and their pancake roll is really filling too

Standard of food is always consistent and it's always about 30 minutes to wait and the helpful and experience staff are happy to recommend a dish if you're unsure what you want.

Ordered fried chicken and cashews with rice. Asked not to have big chunks of peppers or onions.Oh dear!!!!! I have never ever seen a Chinese dish like it. It was boiled chicken pieces in a clear thick sauce with absolutely No flavour. It was like cornflour water with loads and I mean loads of bamboo shoots and water chestnuts.I have never eaten such a bad Chinese. Never again it was absolutely revolting!Cashews came seperate in a plastic bag?

The food was edible, however I won’t return. I had the sweet and sour chicken, tasted like vinegar and the chips felt like they had been used fryer oil.

I ordered a takeaway on the app and found it easy to use. My food came within the specified time and was good. It is typical Chinese takeaway, not outstanding but good portion sizes, perfectly tasty and nicely hot. The thing I was very happy about though was that the items I ordered were specified as gluten free and I was fine after eating, so they must have been. I was a bit nervous as so many things were on the menu as gluten free that often aren't, but all good.

I ordered for delivery and I wrote a note to bring me plastic fork and knife. The food arrived without fork and knife, i try to call the shop and they didn’t aswer. I call justeat and they try to contact the shop but still didn’t answer. I ordered sweet and sour and the chicken was cooked in oil and the sause came seperate. Horible, disgusting. They make me to hate chinese food. Not recommended

Very overpriced, bland food. Got recommended this place by a friend and I can’t believe I listened, if you order anything “ spicy “ be prepared to add your own chilli sauce / flakes. Even the egg fried rice was bland, only reason for two stars is because the service was good and fast.

Must be a popular Chinese took an hour to get food, the queue was out the door. Chow mein was lovely couldn't fault it.

Friendly and accommodating staff. Extremely helpful to those who suffer with allergies and need help with ordering food, made the whole process much easier. The food we ordered was delicious, we will be returning.

We use JPL in Carterton quite frequently and it’s always lovely quality, however tonight was poor! The food was not up to their usual standard.

So I hadn't had this Chinese in a while so thought why not, will give it ago again. With my meal I ordered large egg fried rice via a collection phone order. When I arrived I paid, collected my food and began to walk back home. Me being me I decided to check if the stuff in the bag was what I ordered. Turns out they gave me a chicken fried rice which I've never had in my life or wanted, so I went back. I said the the lady at the counter, sorry but I ordered large egg fried rice not chicken fried rice! She looked at me weirdly and said, Noo! You ordered large chicken fried rice! I was confused as i couldnt be clearer. Eventually she got the message and she went into the back and brought out egg fried rice but this time it was a medium portion. Wasn't happy at theis point so said, is this large?! She said I didn't order large. Again not happy she went into the back to sort it out. In the mean time I checked the price of the chicken fried rice and offcouse it was more expensive than large egg fried rice. So I decided not to say anything and see if she knew that and that I was owed a small refund, this is because i paid by card when I first collected. So she comes out, this time with large, passes it to me and just looks at me, no apologie or anything. I said you owe me change! She looked at me weirdly, I said you owe me 50p as that the cost difference of large egg fried rice and chicken fried rice. She again look at me bizzarly and gave me 50p with a sigh. Anyways I got home and tried that rice and it was so salty I couldn't eat it and I like alot of salt on my chips from the chippy! I seriously thought she purposely poured lots of salt on it to piss me off! Never ever going back again, she didn't understand me and the worst service I've ever had in a takeaway. Oh and all the other food I had was awful, the only nice thing was the prawn crackers! And it's hard to screw them up!

The food tasted as if it had been warmed up in a microwave, I would of been better off chewing on cardboard because it would probably tasted nicer. I wouldn’t waste my money or time here again and I would advise people to avoid like a plague unless you want to punish yourself by eating disgusting food.

Food was not bad, (although I personally prefer an Indian)! Used about once a month. Clean & tidy & staff superb! Do a nice super hot curry if you ask for it! Can Deliver as well. Would recomend if Chinese food is your thing!

We have used the same chinese over and over again since living in Carterton. Someone said why not give JPL a go, so we thought why not we are always open to trying different restaurants as sometimes they can surprise you and be really nice. My first concern was that they were not on Trip Advisor.

Use to work here and loved it.. The food is amazing.. never use to try different things but the chefs encouraged me too and now I have a mixture of dishes. Never had a bad meal yet.. The staff are all friendly and welcoming..

Would recommend Peking Express above all other Chinese Takeaways in Carterton. Good quality food and inexpensive. Louise on the front desk is always polite and friendly.

Worst Chinese I've ever had in my life, ordered a chicken chow mein and about 80% of it was water. Also got a king prawn curry and there was 3 prawns in it. Will never ever order from here again, waste of money and very disappointing.

Awful! I don't normally write reviews, but this was so bad I had to say something. Worryingly fast from ordering to handover, almost certainly microwaved, poor flavour. Normally use the Chinese take away in the centre of town and urge you to avoid. Honestly, the ready meals in Asda/Morrison's are 10 times tastier. Worst Chinese of my life.
