Rainbow House in West Oxfordshire

I stopped using Rainbow House about 15 years ago after a few bad meals. Decided to give it another go earlier this week as I read it was under new ownership but this may have been a while ago. Its a shame as the Capital Spareribs sauce was a lovely sweet and sour sauce with added punch, but the ribs were way over cooked and dry. I had the chicken battered balls and sweet and sour sauce but this lacked flavour and the batter was awful - not crisp and slightly sponge like. The chicken inside was very bland and over cooked. . A waste of £24

First time for me there, wife placed the order over the phone so when I arrived for collection the Takeaway was ready when they said it would be and when I got home each portion was good size. Very tasty food,

The gentleman who served us was very sweet and patient, explaining the dishes to us. The food was piping hot and absolutely delicious. Excellent food and service. Please note cash only accepted.

Large portion so more expensive than it was when Yip was there. Didn't really need to increase size, as they are enough for 2 people now but I don't like what my husband has.

This was the first time we have been, I was impressed with how fast our order was made. When we got home and started to eat, I was surprised with the quality of the food and the size (garlic and chilli dri-fried prawns) of one of the portions. Why have I not been there before now!!!!.

The use of processed meat placed on top of the carton thick soggy batter on poorly prepared prawns and a counter person that does not listen to the order properly.Such a shame as this takeaway was excellent quality a few years ago. Not surprised that you get served straight away now before you had to wait ages.

Gave it a second go after awful food when they opened, wanted to give the benefit of the doubt because we are local. Well second time around was no better. The food is just awful. Ordered squid and satay chicken. The squid was just like dried up old rubber, salt and pepper seasoning was weak, just a load of garlic with normal peppers, no chilli. The satay chicken was not satay chicken at all, it had no peanut taste whatsoever, just chicken in gravy with some onions and peppers. Poor quality food with no taste at all.

Decent Chinese, was pleasantly impressed.

Good quality, both ingredients and flavour. Friendly service. Cooked quickly. Cash only (last time I went).

Food was good but had to wait almost an hour longer when I went to collect my order having been told it would be ready in 40 minutes. I think this was because it was New Year's Eve but sitting waiting for so long was unacceptable.

Always fresh, hot and nice food! Very friendly service and lots to choose from menu :) Shame that they don’t have deliveries, but it’s still worth to collect food as it’s really tasty :)

Best Chinese meal I've had in ages and good price!

We've just had our first takeaway from here and wow we were very impressed. From the lovely friendly gentleman who took our order to the actual meal itself. Highly recommend. Everything was flavoursome and as you'd want it. Nice and crispy, prawn crackers, spring rolls and banana fritters. Main meals were very yummy. Will definitely order from here again! 5* The only thing I'd change is the ability to pay by card rather than cash as we try not to handle cash or keep it in the house.

Visited today and the food and service was excellent. Would definitely eat from there again. Excellent quality

3rd time I have had a poor meal from here..(will not risk another)..under new management ??.....this used to be the best Chinese Takeaway locally...always were good value & good quality....really gone downhill, even my cat turned his nose up at the left overs. What a shame

After changing hands the staff have continued the excellent quality of the previous owners and even added new items to the menu, I would drive the 14 miles to recieve such quality any day!!

Fantastic first meal from the newly owned Rainbow House .To be fair anyone would have a tough act to follow following after Yip and his many years of service providing Eynsham and beyond with wonderful Chinese cuisine . We were pleasantly surprised by the great service and speed in which our order was taken and ready for pick up . The dishes were fantastic and we will definitely return for more . Good luck to the new owners and staff .

Me and my partner went to rainbow house for take away tonight what lovely polite people and the food was absolutely stunning house special chow mein melted in you're mouth meat veg and noodles were so tasty veggie mini spring rolls taste even home made were done fresh not even dry like before with last people even the chips were lovely and fresh I had sweet and sour hong Kong style the battered chicken was so soft and lovely and fresh we got home and our food was red hot when we put it on our plates absolutely lovely for anyone in the village pay a visit its well worth every penny

As it under new ownership, the service you get from this take away is the best in town. Food is very nice, proper Cantonese chef and Cantonese taste. As a Chinese myself, I', highly recommended.

They only take cash. In a pandemic! Incredibly arrogant person serving. If he is the owner, then he should really rethink how he behaves to customers as he is likely to lose them.

I have been going to Rainbow house for over 20 years and they have never disappointed. Clean and hygiene 5 star, always friendly, and the food tastes great. Those that say its awful is doing a dis service. The food itself is good, it may be not to your taste everyone has different tastes but the food itself is good and always hot. I would recommend this as the best place within 20 miles.

Isnt hard to see why this place has been opened for so long in a small village. Been coming for years, never had an issue with food. Sometimes hard to get through on the phone at weekend. Glad it's finally reopened.

Asked for a chilli beef chow Mein was dry and well not very nice chi’s very dry and salty when I ordered the food they looked at me as if I was asking for something strange so I’m guessing they don’t know what a chilli beef chow Mein is go to witney and get it from cogs a better food altogether very disappointed

Great food, best takeaway west of Oxford, but sometimes there are long queues and waits due to the takeaway being very popular.

Gone here for 11 years and never have I had a bad meal. Love the family run business! And the food is to die for, always hot always fresh always home made. Would highly highly suggest their chicken noodle soup! Beautiful.

Having used Rainbow House for 16 years now we are never disappointed, we regularly make a 12 mile trip to pick up our favourite takeaway.

Most disgusting over priced Chinese I ever had I ordered chicken balls they weren’t completely burnt and dry Chicken chow mien no flavour and noodles were chopped up don’t ask me why?? They need to sort themselves out charging customers for burnt food

Was recommended by my partners dad. As he used to live near enysham and said it was the best Chinese food he’s had. So as we have moved we thought we would try it and wish we hadn’t. It was awful. All the dishes order were nearly inedible. The meat was extremely overcooked and dry. Hardly no sauce on the special chow mien. The chicken balls were burnt and all round unpleasant. Would not recommend at all. What a waste of money.

one of the worst Chinese take aways I have ever been to. We ordered for 6 and none of the meals were edible. Chicken balls looked like that had been cooked several times, chicken and beef pieces tasted like rubber, and noodles were like elastic bands. Will never be going here again. I highly recommend that you stay away.

I have been going to this Chinese for over 30 years it’s absolutely the best. very fresh, quality is excellent. You will not be disappointed.

Me and my mate bought from there we bought a chicken chowmain and a beef one the noodles where like elastic bands and the beef tasted like burnt rubber and the chicken balls tasted stale 😂

We haven’t used The Rainbow House for along time but as our usual restaurant was closed we decided to give it a go. Well, what a terrible decision. Out of four meals, not one was of good quality. We had three chicken dishes and aromatic duck. The duck was far too crispy. It was dry with no flavour but at least we managed to eat some of it. Whereas the chicken (if it is chicken?!) was horrendous. All three chicken dishes were inedible. I can only describe the texture as that of quorn. The sauce was murky water masquerading as satay sauce. It really was rank. It’s a shame, The Rainbow House always used to be a safe bet.

Chicken Curry was absolutely terrible far too spicy for a Chinese curry and the chicken was rubber squares of so called meat.

You always get a cheery welcome st Rainbow House, that amazing food! Always tasty, always hot, with a fantastic choice! It does get busy but it’s well worth the wait!

couldn't get an answer on the phone so drove over to order and the phone was ringing right next to owner when I arrived wouldn't reccomend

First visit: OK food, pretty standard selection and flavours, order took longer than we were told, and service was cold at best, however the Shredded Chilli Beef saved a worse score!

Very nice takeaway however make sure to get there early as gets very busy...if you try to phone an order you will have a long wait...only open evenings and Saturday lunchtime.

Pretty dire, the guy working there was miserable as sin, 45 minute wait and then when we got back the order was incorrect and food quality poor, wouldn’t recommend wasting your time or money

HIGHLY RECOMMEND, It has been a family run Chinese take out for over 30 years and Every time we have had our take out from this place I can't fault it, can honestly say I don't think we ever would, I know they say never say never but their continuity speaks for itself, if you know they are open and you can't get through its more than likely they are rushed off their feet so don't just find another to get one take a trip and go place you're order, you may have to wait a little while but as they say all good things come to those that wait.

Salt & pepper spare ribs must be tried. I love that they prioritise people in shop above phone calls. Service is quick and lots of local pubs to wait in.

Very busy takeaway shop and even still only had to wait 25 mins. The phone rings off the hook with orders. Some of the best Chinese food I've had takeaway style. Shame it's in oxford and not back home. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Good take away Chinese. Always very busy which is a good sign but service is still quick nonetheless. Can definitely recommend.

Literally the best Chinese ever!!! 😍 My family and I go here all the time and they have done since before even I was born and the food has ALWAYS been delicious and we get given generous amounts and we've NEVER had any issues! Staff are lovely and very friendly and we're always greeted kindly :) We don't have to wait too long for our food either! Would DEFINITELY recommend Rainbow House to everyone!! :D
