Another delicious meal at The Pavillion. We usually dine-in as we like to make an occasion of eating such delicious food. I particularly appreciate the table linen, it makes the whole dining experience so special. Last evening we ordered Chicken Tikka, Vegetale Curry, Plain Boiled Rice, Jeera Gost, Pilau Rice, Garlic and Corriander Naan and Popodoms with dips to start, all freshly cooked and couteously served. We have been dining at The Pavillion since it opened in this location after moving from above The Old Neighbourhood Inn. Relatives of ours who have travelled the world and lived and worked in many eastern countries say it is one of the best places for a curry that they have experienced. Brimscombe, Stroud is so fortunate to have such a good Indian Restaurant and Takeaway.

Had takeaway on Sunday meal wasn’t very hot, chicken was tough and didn’t taste fresh. We hadn’t been for about 9 months because we had the same issues. Noticed there was no food rating on the door. Won’t be going back again don’t waste your money.

So sad as previous experience was of a good quality meal. All dishes this time lacked fresh spice and all tasted basically the same with an overwhelming taste and aroma of cumin. One of the poorest meals we have had for some considerable time.

Absolutely delicious food. We were unsure whether we should make the trip to The Pavilion as it was slightly further than we wanted to drive but I’m delighted we did. We were spoilt for good curry living in the city but now we’ve moved out it’s much harder to find. I’ve even been served cheddar cheese instead of paneer! But not at The Pavilion. The flavours were exquisite and the food felt rich yet light. Naan was great, vegetable shashlick was cooked perfectly. There was no oil floating on top of any of our meat dishes. And BYOB. Brilliant all round. Thanks.

I love The Pavilion, we've been dining there for years and we keep coming back. The decor is simple and has a sort of comforting continental feel. The food is truly delicious and affordable. I can personally vouch for the Pasanda dishes, the King Prawn has a lovely smokiness to it. The Dansak dishes are also really great and a good vegan/gluten free option for those who need it. Highly recommend the naan breads, I always got the Peshwari for a sweeter option but any of them are good!

This place has gone downhill big time. First impression - a dirty table cloth. The lime pickle served with the popadoms was so salty it was inedible and the onion salad was uninspired. My chicken tikka masala was not good, basically precooked chicken smothered in a red sauce, probably straight out of the deep freeze. My wife had a chicken shashlik (her favourite dish) that was dry and the chicken had been precooked, along with half cooked onion. We were both terribly disappointed with our meals and with the overall experience. The Pavilion used to be excellent, but sadly I cannot recommend it.

We were staying locally and our host had recommended this place and it wasn’t a long walk so gave it a try, it was fairly quiet but due to social distancing this suited us well. The man who served us, believes it was the owner was polite and friendly and made sure we had everything we wanted. The food was good and plentiful, popadoms to start then we had a mixed starter which was delicious and samosa then one of the specials, I can’t remember the name, a couple of veg side dishes rice and naan and as we took our own drinks it came to around £43 which is good value. My only negative is that the ladies toilets were pretty grim! The dust on the skirting boards was pretty thick and I made a comment to my other half that as we’ve just come out of lockdown you’d think the least they could’ve done is a deep clean. It’s quite dated but I think the prices reflect this.

Just awful. Arrived to eat in, drinks took 20mins from ordering, a further 35mins to take our food order. Pickles were reused from another table. Second drinks order took 20mins. Food arrived 1hr 40mins after our arrival. Two dishes hot, one warm, one cold. Sent cold one back. Same plate returned, microwaved! 3 tables left without eating due to waits. Takeaway queue was constant and possibly the priority. Flavour of the food, average. Ambience poor. One staff member friendly, one appeared fed up and clearly didn’t want to be there. Just awful would not return.

We've had regular takeaways from The Pavillion for years, but tonight was a real low point. We ordered by phone at 7pm & were given a lead time of 45 minutes. But when we went to collect we waited another hour - & only got it then because we were complaining. To add to that, the food was nowhere near as good as usual- my Korma was full of chilli! Really disappointing- as was the slippery attitude of the staff member dealt with - instead of apologising, explaining - & perhaps offering a discount or free drink while we waited - he made excuses & said things that were obviously untrue. It's really put us off going back - next time we'll go to the next nearest (& more reliable) takeaway... ☹

Empty bar one solitary diner, no welcome staff looked irritated when we asked for a table for 4, absolutely no atmosphere. It was clear they do not welcome customers and prefer the takeaway side of their business. Orders taken by sullen staff, ordered tap water twice and it failed to turn up. Starters were o.k once again served by sullen waiter but it got worse when the main courses turned up. The pescitarian among us had ordered a prawn curry what they got was a prawn curry cooked in a lamb pan and that was the over whelming flavor, same with a mild chicken dish tasted of lamb. Meanwhile the lamb curry was full of gristle and so chewy it was inedible. When we complained we were met with the same sullen miserable unwelcoming blank stares and then they tried to overcharge us. This place could be an absolute gold mine but the prices are extortionate, the service non existent and the food very poor, do not even think about eating here if you are vegetarian or vegan.

What a lovely visit we had, from the friendly welcome on entering the restaurant to the faultless service and superb food. Very generous portion sizes, so much so that I asked if I could take home some of my main course as I was totally full! I was in the area with friends for a week eating out every night, and we decided to try the Pavilion curry for a change, having sampled the delights of the local Maccy D, and a couple of local pubs beforehand. The Pavillion is a pretty large establishment but when we visited (around 9 in the evening) it was almost empty. In fact our party of 4 doubled the clientele numbers! There were two front of house staff. One appeared to be the 'boss'. He was casually dressed and eventually took our orders. The other was a smartly dressed gentleman who brought the food to the table. The restaurant was clean and tidy but without any discernible atmosphere. Our order was taken and I ordered lamb tikka danzak with an accompanying rice dish. We all shared some papadums and dips to start. The 'boss' took our drinks order which included 'tap water' and the other chap brought them to the table (all except the water which had been forgotten) The 'smart' one then brought the meals to the table. Unfortunately the fellow did not seem particularly happy in his work, he was quite sullen and the meals were delivered in a haphazard manner more akin to a thrown frisbee. It was as if we were not welcome. The water eventually arrived halfway through the meal after our twice reminding the 'boss'. My 'lamb' proved to be pretty unappetising with little flavour. It was very chewy and seemed overcooked. I guess it could have been any red meat as it had none of the classic lamb flavour. The sauce was thick and glutinous and also seemed overcooked. Perhaps it had been microwaved or reheated several times? It certainly was not fresh! However...the beer (kingfisher) and the accompanying rice were both very nice. One of my friends had a mixed grill and the other two had lamb dishes, I do not recall exactly what the lamb dish was, merely that it was a creamy yellow in colour. Their lamb was also reported as chewy and tasteless. The mixed grill was quite a virulent red in colour and was reported as 'ok'. In so many ways our visit to this restaurant was a big disappointment (we had read the trip advisor reviews beforehand and expected better...much better) As a result I have struggled to award it 2 stars. 1.5 is more in keeping with my experience. Suffice it to say our preceding visit to 'Maccy' in Stroud was much better ....and much cheaper! A shame. Perhaps they had an off day.

Took the chance and drove 8 miles to find the doors open and with an illuminated Open sign in the window and with front doors open, only to be told by one of the staff that they were closed as they had no idea if the chef was going to arrive for work or not! Why advertise such opening hours and not have the courtesy to return customers enquiries? Wasted journey but we discovered Rajdoot in Stroud ( see review ). Had wanted to visit The Pavilion after hearing good things about it but if they can't guarantee the chef will attend then I won't bother trying to visit again. The waiters were kind enough to put it in a takeaway box for me to take away and enjoy tomorrow. I have written more than one review in relation to this restaurant and this one has been added because a new diner was introduced, and yes she will be going back again. Its difficult to explain the exact differences between the food at The Pavillion and the food at other Indian restaurants but suffice to say that the flavours are incredible. I know for some its all about the heat of the curry, but all heat and no flavour is not a pleasurable experience, i guess this is where The Pavillion's Chef does a brilliant job.For instance they do a dish called 'Jalferoz' which is similar but not exactly the same as a 'Jalfrezi' if eaten elsewhere and is the best i have ever tasted anywhere.I realise this is only my opinion but it still hasn't been beaten anywhere in Gloucestershire where i have eaten, so if that helps you decide to try it out, all well and goodYou won't regret your visit...

We used to go to The Pavillion when it was in Cheltenham and we were always satisfied with our meals. This is the first time we have been to Stroud and I had forgotten just how totally amazing their food is.I cannot fault anything from the welcome to the service and the meals, everything was incredible and I am not easily pleased.I would recommend The Pavillion to anyone who wants a curry that has more flavour than I have ever tasted in any other restaurant.Go now you won't be disappointed.

I'm very surprised to read all those good appreciations! We're French and went there , hoping to eat great Indian food. (I worked in England when I was much younger and remember how good was the food eaten in small simple Indian restaurants... I was hoping it would have been much better in "THE PAVILLION", after reading the reviews on the Net. What a disappointment! First of all, we didn't get the drinks we had ordered, second, the food was quite ordinary (I 'm used to eat true "Chicken korma"in LILLE, which is real Indian food... This one was too sweet, and no "korma" at all, and my husband's duck was quite tasteless. No dessert, no coffee, what a poor restaurant!I don't recommend it to true Indian food lovers!

We ordered from the Pavilion tonight for the very first time as our usual Indian takeaway quoted a 1hour 15 minute wait time.(un acceptable at 7pm in the evening) I am glad they did as we would not have ordered from the Pavillion I drive past it everyday but up until now had never been in .The food was spot on piping hot and full of new flavours. Prompt efficient service and the food was better value than our usual restaurant. We ordered our normal dishes and the over whelming result was that the food was nicer .It was almost nice to compare the dishes from different restaurants. We may well of found our new takeaway.

Without a shadow of a doubt this is the best place for a curry in Stroud. The food is always of a high standard together with top service

Been using this restaurant fairly often over the past few years. The food is great, the best in the Town and as my husband is lacto-intolerant, it is one Indian restaurant that he is happy to eat at. Not the cheapest but you do get 10% off if you take out, making it comparable to other take-aways. It is not in the centre of town so no drunks from the pubs wander in. Service varies and bar orders are not their strong point. The food makes up for it though.

We've only used the takeaway service on numerous occasions. Prompt phone service and very good menu choices. The tandoori chicken is just the best in the area. Will use time and again and would definately recommend.

Visited for our 7th wedding anniversary after hearung good things about this place and wasnt dissapointed. Waiters were polite and quick. Decor was nice and best of all the food was amazing. Fresh, interesting and full of flavour. Me and the wife kept on boring the kids with our comments on how good the foof was! Recommend the Royal Lamb, nicely spiced and literally fell of the bone. Will DEFINITELY go back again soon. Well done guys!

This was our first visit and we came with friends and were impressed with the quality of the food, and the value as we had the 'Wednesday Special' which was excellent. The waiter who served us was helpful and attentive. However small omissions stopped this from being a very good experience. On a rainy night, we were surprised not to have our coats taken, and were told just to put them on the back of our chairs. At the end of the meal no order for tea or coffee were taken although apparently included in the price, so after a wait we gave up. Little things, but it would make a difference to the evening and make us want to come again.

We have eaten here several times over the past few years and have always been well satisfied. This evening was no exception. We each chose a dish from the Special selection, and found both to be delicious, accompanied by a side each of special fried rice and potato and spinach. The choice of desserts was greater and more varied than usual at an Indian restaurant, and the ice cream-based selections we chose were delicious.Service was good, friendly and attentive.

The Pavilion seems to be typical of many "Indian" restaurants in that the service is friendly and attentive, but the food is fine but really nothing special. Flavours are muted and one comes out feeling full but not really having enjoyed something memorable.Another converted pub, pretty unappealing from the outside, better inside, even with a conservatory.

We came here for a Birthday meal, there was approx 25 of us and you knew we was coming! The service was awful, even tho you offered a free drink, some of them drinks did not arrive.... The food we waited for approx 2 hrs! And when it came it was so disappointing as we looked at the reviews before we came. The food was being re-heated on a gas burner at the table... metal bowl hot, food not! Lots of dishes did not turn up and we was expected to pay for them!! The only person who had a hot meal was the steak! And I ordered a prawn and chicken dish, no prawns, but shrimps and advertised as a medium heat! It was in a korma sauce...We are sorry it came to this but we felt very let down :(

We are regular clients and yet to have a poor meal. Service is warm and attentive. Curries can be varied according to taste which is ideal when you have fussy children with you. Both eat in and take out portions are very generous, again ideal for family dining. Highly recommended.

We visited this restaurant at 8pm on a Friday night. The restaurant was less than a third full with two waiters on duty, which should have been more than manageable. However, catching their attention to order food and drinks was far from easy and getting drinks took an age. In fact, they were so slow that we ordered the next round while halfway through the first, which did stop us from getting thirsty in the ridiculous wait for our food.Ordering food at 8.15pm and then not having it on the table for over an hour is not acceptable. It was very clear that takeaway customers took preference over restaurant guests. The food was average. My wife's lamb curry appeared to have had a whole tin of tomato puree thrown at it while my chicken was very sweet and not in a good way.Not a cheap night out and one we will not be repeating. This restaurant needs to remember it has a lot of competition nearby...

We really like this restaurant - the food is first class - an interesting menu, especially for vegetarians. The service is great too - attentive but not over the top. Lots of nice presentation touches - flowers made out of vegetables to garnish the dishes. The only small drawback is a slight lack of ambience unless the restaurant is full. Definitely my curry house of choice in the Stroud valleys.

Have been here a few times and the staff are always very welcoming and helpful. More importantly the food is good too. Not just one mush of curry flavour, but meals were you can taste the individual ingredients. It's difficult to get across but you know what I mean!!

We live nearby and have never been to The Pavillion...such a shame that I've missed eating at this fab place. The decor is simple and contemporary and when we arrived all staff greeted us with warm smiles. It was fairly quiet when we arrived but got busier as the evening went on and a lot come for take out...def on my to do list!...the food is fresh, tasty and delicious. I'm not a lover of garlic mushrooms but hubby ordered some and I tried some and ended up having half of his, I've never tasted anything like them before so so yummy, with lots of coriander, a divine starter. My main was a balti and hubby ordered a karai...both were fabulous. The service is impeccable, everyone is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place, I for one will def be returning again...enjoy peeps!!

We live near by and had eaten at the Sunday buffet but never from the main menu. Wonderful surprise. The food was excellent. Best byrianni I have ever eaten. Good portions. Food fresh and well presented. Good choice on the menu and special fish choices. We will return soon because my husband wants a byrianni! A real treat to have exceelent food, attentive service and only 3 minute drive afterwards. The owner was attentive to all his customers and went out of his way to sensure that everything was satisfactory. A little more expensive than the restaurants in Nailsworth but worth it.

After a dreadful introduction to local Indian cuisine at The Passage to India;a friend booked us a table at The Pavilion.Well, where to start ? The food & service were superb.Everything was fresh, zingy & tasty ! The main courses of Chicken Xagoti & chicken Vindaloo were absolutely superb... beautifully marinaded meat & the depth of flavour was divine.I would definately say I was a connoisseur of Indian food;having been to India a lot & having tasted the best curries in London for 12 years. The food here is excellent, the wine great & the waiters charming, friendly & just the right level of attentiveness. The only thing is that it is a bit bright inside. & lacking ambiance; however the food 100% makes up for it !!I cannot wait to go back at Easter....D E L I C I O U S !

Had the most delicious, tangy curry from the fantastic India Palace yesterday (a Lamb Khyber - highly recommend!) This local restaurant is invaluable for our community. Thank you to all the team and look forward to our next visit.

We have used Saffron for a few years and it has been super tasty. Unfortunately, the last couple of times just haven't been the same. The bread has suddenly become very dense, thick and almost undercooked. Today my chicken tikka didn't come with the usual salad or yogurt dressing. I love these parts and I really missed them. It was really disappointing as they are an integral part to the dish. I think we're going to try somewhere else now. Such a shame.

Fantastic evening. So well looked after all evening. Delicious food. Accommodated the needs of the children first. Thank you so much .
