Nice venue, poor quality microwave pub food at restaurant prices. Doubletree usually has reasonable restaurants, this is the worst one I have dined at. Really poor quality that appeared fresh out the microwave and still not warmed through properly. Hopefully just a blip as they are undergoing refurbishment but in the meantime would not eat here again.

We met our Grandson at this hotel - he joined us for lunch. The food was very good although a little expensive for a Bar. We had hoped to eat in the Beefy restaurant overlooking the cricket ground but unfortunately that does not open until the evening. This is our second visit to this hotel - we had stayed overnight on the previous visit. We will come again as it is a very comfortable place. The service as good and our window table overlooking the golfcourse was pleasant enough.

We ate in the Bracken Place restaurant as part of our dinner bed and breakfast at the hotel. The ambience was good. A lot of the dishes were unavailable as they were switching to a new menu. The baked Camembert was lovely. The fish and chips were a little cold on arrival. The chocolate brownie was good. Drinks pretty expensive - the cheapest bottles of wine approximately £25 a pop. Breakfasts are also served here and offer a pretty incredible choice of hot and cold food.

We also ordered some drinks (2 shandys ) the pint glasses that the shandys were served in were absolutely vile- filthy dirty. The restaurant is now 'The Bracken Place Lounge'. The quality of the food is still excellent but the menu has been slimmed down so not offering as wide a choice, the ambience is not as pleasant as the hotel now seems to have changed it's target market to families with young children and is offering 'package deals' and the change in clientele is now reflected in the overall standards. Previously my wife and I had never had to contend with noisy children and those who cannot be bothered to even wear 'smart casual' dress to dinner. I accept that there are those who will think my attitude snobbish which is their right but I prefer to think that there are places to wear jackets, trousers and shirts and places to wear shorts and tee shirts as I believe dressing 'correctly' enhances one's own and other guests experience. On our latest visit (we have been calling here for a number of years on a number of occasions each year on our way to the ferry). The maître d' was very good and knew his job but probably has too if our experience was anything to go by. The service was poor and incredibly slow it took 2 hours from being seated to leaving the table, the cheeseboard taking nearly half an hour from ordering. As we were to catch the ferry our time was scheduled and my wife had left the table to tell the Maître d' that we could wait no longer for the cheese when it arrived so we stayed. We made our feelings known and hope they were taken seriously. I say again, the food quality was excellent but the choice limited. We are however considering seeking out a different restaurant for our next trip South.

Phoned to book and transferred through three different people. When we arrived there was no booking registered. A car was blocking the drop off and was still there over an hour later. The parking meter didn't work. The meal was disappointing to say the least. The soup was so thin it didn't even cover the spoon, Crayfish starter looked pretty but was swamped with sweet chilli sauce. The sea bass was just one fillet chopped in about four pieces. Tasted ok but hardly filling. The restaurant was not of the standard I expected of a Hilton. Tables looked as though they had not been polished for weeks and badly scratched dividing balistrades. It lacked astmosphere - so much that my husband said he didn't want to go back there again and preferred my cooking. So much for my evening out!

We went as a family to celebrate our daughters 10 year anniversary as this was where they had their reception,we bought a voucher via highlife, thank god we did as to pay full price would be a rip off! We went as a party of 8 including one who was gluten intolerant, the tea came first,Tea bags, not leaves, the sandwich / cakes came next, well there wasn't a cake To be seen! We had 8 eclairs 8 slices of a mousse with a sponge edge & 8 biscuits!! The sandwich's consisted of tuna mayo, egg mayo, ham & mustard, grated cheese & salmon,we asked for more & got same again minus the salmon, the gf option consisted of 8 quarters of sandwiches & a panna cotta, they then bought out 8 fruit scones,8 jars of strawberry jam & 2 small tubs of cream,we waited for the gf scones! After a while we asked when they would be here to be told they didn't have any but we could have some fruit or sorbet! We declined!! We asked for more tea which when it came was just our old teapots with more hot water so it was just slightly coloured hot water, this was replaced with fresh tea when asked! After we had complained that the gf situation we never saw a waitress again,I think they were avoiding us!! We booked this approximately 2 weeks ago & told them about the gf problem,if they couldn't make gf scones there's Asda up the road who sell them!! My daughter spoke to the waiter in charge & in the end we didn't have to pay as we felt it was a terrible excuse for an afternoon tea,it was a very disappointing experience & ruined what was supposed to be a celebration ,I would not recommend this place for afternoon tea.

Disembarked ferry in Portsmouth and drove approximately 20 miles to the Pavillion; we had never been before but will be going again in the not-too-distant future. The food was amazing, even the desserts (or most as I cannot guarantee all) were made in-house by the chef. I had salt & pepper said, followed by Blade of Beef then Sticky toffee Pudding and it was all terrific; the beef had been slow roasted then stripped off the bone so melted in the mouth and the pudding was a ‘proper’ one with dates in, not just a dark sponge with toffee sauce on. My wife had the homemade terrine and chicken to follow: very succulent and tender. If I have a criticism it is that the wines were a little expensive but I am aNorthener (forget the fact that I’d just returned fro France) but, in fairness, it was no more expensive to buy by the glass than the bottle so I had a white with the squid and a red with the beef and they were decent enough. I must also say that I was very pleasantly surprised at how, relatively, inexpensive it was. well done the Pavillion

I had decided just to have the bread and a steak. The bread was excellent, warm, three types and good quantity. The steak, however, was very poor (not the worst I've ever had, as that was cooked by my own hand) and was the worst I have ever had to pay money for. It was tough, gristly and tasteless; and despite being ordered medium-rare, was cooked more than medium. When asked if I enjoyed it, I told the waitress what I thought of it, she was very good; listened, responded and gave a discount off the final bill. The staff were attentive, but the food let them down.

As a consequence of a severe lack of alternatives, I ate here during my one-night stay in the Hilton. The menu is fairly unexciting, but my spaghetti bolognese was perfectly fine. Recently I stayed at the Hilton Southampton hotel and had my dinner at this restaurant. Welcomed by friendly staff and took the order. I ordered soup of the day as starter, main ribeye steak medium grilled, deserts ice cream. After 20 minutes main dish came, forgot the soup! Steak not matured perfectly, therefore not much tasty. Again I ordered Vanila and strawberry ice creams, but three scoops of strawberry ice cream served!! Steak £19, ice cream £4, reasonably priced. Buffet breakfast also served here. I preferred full English, it's perfectly cooked. No complaints about breakfast, I enjoyed it. As a diamond member, breakfast is complementary for me, therefore I have no idea about the cost.

After reading the reviews. My expectations were not that high, however, I am pleased to give this 5 stars. The welcome was warm from the reception to the restaurant where we were met by Chris who acknowledged us immediately with a warm smile before seating us. We were offered tea or coffee and within 5 minutes we were drinking our pot of hot twining every day tea. (On a small downside tea leaves would have been preferable). The tea was still pleasant. Quickly following was or selection of sandwiches, cakes and warm scones. Throughout the sitting Chris the manager was very attentive. This was a far cry from the mad hatters tea party previous reviews led me to believe I was going into. It may be no RITZ but then for a fraction of the price it is definitely worth a visit

My husband and I went to the Hilton Hotel to have afternoon tea. I purchased an Amazon voucher and paid extra to have the earl grey tea cocktail. On arrival we were asked if we wanted coffee, not really sure why they asked as we assumed we were having a pot of tea. We said yes to coffee. The afternoon tea plates came and there wasn't a lot of choice. The sandwiches felt like they had been in the fridge for a while as they were hard and cold. The cake choice wasn't anything special either. Unfortunately I don't eat fruit and both scones had fruit so I picked it out. We asked for the earl grey cocktail which was pleasant. We never got our pot of tea. I could have done this cheaper but thought paying extra and going to the Hilton would be a better experience, what a mistake. If you see a voucher for here don't bother.

We visited the Pavilion Restaurant at the Hilton Hotel for an afternoon tea. The restaurant was clean and open, but lacked a little atmosphere. This was OK though, we'd come to enjoy each other's company and a post Christmas treat. We waited quite a long time for our food and teas to arrive, and when they did I was pretty disappointed. The sandwiches were just about OK (if a little plain), the cakes however appeared to be pre-frozen and defrosted - there was a layer of condensation on the icing / chocolate and they were slightly soggy and very cold. It was difficult to get any staff members attention for a refill on the tea and milk, so eventually we simply gave up and left. We had bought Groupon vouchers for this visit so didn't feel too cheated, but would not now go back for a further visit.

The staff are great and friendly even if they are from the other restuarants / bar in hotel. The food though much is standard throughout the Hilton chain is cooked differently here, it has more flavour and the curries are excellent not surprisingly as they have an Indian chef, never overpowering with garlic or chillie, just perfect.Often little snacks of nuts or biscuits at the bar whilst u wait is a lovely touch, a good selection of draught beers, largers and a cider with plenty bottled beers and other drinks. The food once ordered is served at a relaxed speed but never slow, often I am asked if I wish to wait a few minutes before the next course is put through to be prepared, very relaxing environment with often a good laugh amongst the staff and fellow guests.

Ok, plush hotel, nice and clean. Well presented and attentive staff, thank you staff. Note to manager, get more staff in :)It was great, I recommend it, I will be going back and very soon. But...Negative bit first then, we were waiting around to be seated and there was only one bar steward who was nice but had a hard time serving the guests in the very professional manner he was happy to be doing. Thanks but your boss needs to get you some help. Ditto with the restaurant manager. And guys, if there are a lot of tables free in a restaurant, don't place me smack bang on top rubbing shoulders with the next table, seat me away so i have some space. Why is this standard practice?Good bit, damn your food is good. Ok so you had the default vegetarian risotto, but wow 3 other choices with a salad starter that could be a main for 4. And by golly was the salad nice, as was the falafel burger. Excellent presentation, delicious, enough to fill me up, top marks. So although the service was excellent and the food even better, perhaps a few more most excellent staff would have got 5 stars. Sorry to the manager but got to be cruel to be kind.So am I going back, you bet your last penny I am, well worth the wait and a great selection of tasty food for me, and I am a fussy git. Somewhat surprised by some of the recent poor reviews. Normally we are once a year visitors to this Hotel e/r to join a cruse ship and we have always found the dining to be a pleasant experience and our recent visit was no exception. The evening meal for which we had a reserved table came up to the high standard which we have always found, the staff were welcoming and attentive, the menu provided a good choice and the food served was of high quality and very well presented.Certainly if we lived locally we would choose to eat there on quite a few occasions. By now it can almost be taken as read that the other half had curry, Chicken Madras to be precise, and he loved it saying that it was full of flavour and spices without being too hot. I elected for the grilled chicken breast with lemon and tarragon sauce, accompanied by grilled vine tomatoes and mushroom and 'Browned finger potatoes' (that's my take on posh chicken and chips). Cannot fault the service and the waiter.

Not sure why this is called the Pavilion Bar when it clearly should be the Pavilion Restaurant but there you go...Went for dinner on a Groupon "two courses for four people" from the main menu offer. Initial impressions not good - appeared you had to pay to park when given a ticket on entry and then the way to the restaurant was blocked by wedding party guests milling/lounging around. Then, when seated we were initially given a smaller menu instead of the main menu. However, this was quickly changed when pointed out and from then on everything was great, service very good and food mainly tasty and well presented. Drinks were higher than average but that is to be expected at these hotels. Finally, when leaving, the car park barrier was up so we didn't have to pay after all.So overall we enjoyed our dinner and would be happy to return.

Lovely spacious bar, and especially the lounge area. Drinks were quite pricey. Bottle of Coke mixer £3.60, which then added to the spirit, is expensive. Staff were friendly

We had very friendly service here and whilst the prices are standard Hilton so are not cheap the refurbished bar area and superb service made this a great place for a drink or a light snack with friends.

Food was not bad but the service was shocking and very slow. Orders were wrong several times during the stay. Staff are miserable on the whole, although one or two were good. Disappointing given the brand name.

Went here for a cream tea with family gathering , absolutely awful. Table was booked for 4.00pm - staff asked us to have tea in the bar which was not acceptable to us. After a 40 minute wait we were then taken to a table in the restaurant. Orders were taken for tea and coffee - tea arrived in pots but coffee was delivered in individual cups in " Costa" marked cups - did not set a very good ambience.Large flat plate of sandwiches and large flat plate of cakes was then delivered - not a very nice presentation , the hotel probabley had not got proper plate/sandwich stands - totally unp t offessional. The sandwiches were fresh but the tuna ones were unbelievable - no tuna in most of them. The leader of our clan sought out the manager to complain and a fresh plate was produced, slight improvement. The cakes were average quality. Overall a totally unprofessional service and a quality of food- would think 10 year olds would do better. In fairness to the establishment the manager did take onboard our complaints. We would not return to this establishment, did not think that businesses can survive with standards like this.

Me and my boyfriend sat down to have afternoon tea at the Pavilion Bar. We expected great service. The overall look of the bar was posh, but lacked character. Being fairly empty, we were surprised to be placed on the table right next to a family with loud children. We asked to move and eventually ordered out drinks. I ordered tea, and was not given a choice of which type of tea I would have liked. It turned up with no milk, no sugar and no pot of hot water. My boyfriends coffee turned up luke warm. The afternoon tea took a particularly long time to turn up considering it had clearly just been pulled out of a fridge where it had been sat for god knows how long! Unfortunately it was awful. The sandwiches were dry, there was a scone missing, the banana cake was far from moist, and the fruit was sour on top of the other cake. The scones were not accompanied by any jam or cream, and when we asked our waiter for some, he didn't seem particularly keen to get us any. The service was slow and a little rude. We wont be visiting the Pavilion bar again.

Everything. Water didn't turn up. No one serving at the bar. Afternoon tea had been in the fridge from the night before I think. Cakes just what you wouldn't expect in an afternoon tea. Someone having a one to one in full view of guests. Just not good.

Of course, this is very convenient. We were tired from the flight from the USA and ate pretty early. Service was excellent and the food was four-star.

Bought a Groupon deal for my daughter and I. 2 spa treatments followed by afternoon tea. The sap was fab and the back, neck, shoulder massage with hot stones was amazing. Then followed by a very relaxing facial. The only issue was a noisy air con machine in the room but it didn't detract from the enjoyment too much. When we had finished we made our way up to the bar/restaurant. The lobby and every chair was taken by lots and lots of people waiting with their very large luggage for a coach. A horrid smell of wet dog was also present, but no dog! We thought we would kill some time (our table for afternoon tea wasn't booked until 12.30) and headed to the bar. No one was serving so we fought our way through the throngs of milling pensioners to the costa coffee bar. No hot chocolate and we don't drink caffiene so we didn't bother. Found a seat but it was near the entrance and as the tail end of hurricane Bertha was blowing we soon moved as it was very cold. We decided to ask if we could be seated early and was told we could take a seat in the lobby and have it served there. We said no thanks as we didn't want the overwhelming stench of damp dogs and pensioners ruining our appetite. So we went in to a deserted dining room which was still being cleared from breakfast and took a nice seat by the window. We were happy to sit and chat and after a short time was asked what tea we wanted. It came quickly and was served nicely. Then the sandwiches and cake arrived. Not a fancy stand but it served a purpose. There was a selection of 3 different sandwiches all mediocre. The plates on the stand had been in the fridge and had developed a 'wet' layer on them. All the food was super cold so I think the food had been made earlier (much earlier) then stood on the plates and put into the fridge. Dissapointing as I prefer fresh sandwiches. The banana cake was nice, the scone dense and the butter in it solid so I couldn't eat all of that. The strawberry cheesecake was ok but as it had all been super cold it wasn't great. So on conclusion we would use the sap but definitely not the bar or restaurant.

Interior decor and ambience is nice, however after stopping off for what was supposed to be a quick bite to eat tonight (a weeknight); was left waiting nearly an hour for a club sandwich. The restaurant / bar area was not busy at all - really poor for the price I paid (around £12).Management need to have a serious word with the kitchen and service staff.

The hotel is clean and friendly and the rooms are very comfortable (avoid 521 like the plague). The bar should be made a child free zone, particularly on pre-cruise nights.A very special mention has to be made of the concierge Paul who is magnificent.

Visited the Pavilion at the Hilton as a special afternoon tea treat with my Mother. Service at the reception was good and we were ushered to our seat. Tea/Coffee was served promptly followed by a generous plate of sandwiches including cheese and pickle, tuna and ham and tomato. Accompanying this was a plate of cakes which included scones (with clotted cream and jam), Black Forest gateau, fruit tart and banana bread. We had this as part of a deal site offer and the total cost was only £16.95. Which was excellent value for what we had! If I was searching for a downside, there is no outside view, but the ambience of the space is still ok.

Portway Inn, was the best place for breakfats for my family and I. we use to go each week. Todday we were turned away and was told they no longer accept outside customers only residents only. I have taken a picture of each of these. There terms and conditions, there website, their menu and when you walk towards the reception entrance from car park, no where does it say residents only can get breakfast. what a waste of time and fuel. I am so disappointed.

My daughter and I found this cafe by accident. Here are our thoughts. 1. too small to allow dogs indoors. 2. could do with a bit of a refresh. The chair pads were stained and there were grease stains up the wall by our table. 3. toilet was very clean but on the first floor which meant climbing some very steep steps. Not disabled friendly. However my daughter who is vegetarian had a really good choice of foods and thoroughly enjoyed her meal. The young staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The coffee was delicious as was my hummus platter with Greek salad. The prices were good and I would highly recommend but I think it could be even better with a bit of a refurb. Didn't get to see the garden as it was too hot to sit outside but from the photos it looks really nice.

The food on offer was great, but no choice of real ales unless you like flack manor which I hate it's disgusting so cannot recommend.

Sadly this pub remains closed. Some work has been done on the building but there is no indication that it will reopen soon. Best to check before travelling. The nearest pub is the Black Horse at West Tytherley which has good reviews.
