Many thanks to the courteous Pier restaurant staff for not allowing my P.A Uri use the powder room you have available last weekend gone. For future reference Uri was going to be spending money in your restaurant but will take his business to another courteous establishment with a less draconian attitude. I'm sure your food is lovely but your attitude says otherwise.

I have been here before and been impressed by their vegan efforts. Not now...a much reduced menue....no fish meal for Mum, no cauliflower popcorn...it’s a glorified by the sea burger joint. At least they have stopped asking you for the payment BEFORE you have eaten...and at least they now give you a receipt when you have paid. They had a vegan cake for desert but no vegan ice cream or cream. They had two vegan mains...which was some mushroom burger thing, or jack fruit which I don’t like. For a starter there was vegan slaw. I concocted some thing from a haloumi burger replacing the haloumi with the vegan slaw...but for a main it came by itself...no chips or crisps...hardly a main? So the food has gone down hill...the payment protocol uphill.

So disappointing! All too often the service lets a place down, not here. Service was great, food was awful! £7 for a fish finger roll, it was a cheap, hard roll, and no side salad or anything. My father ordered a £2 brisket parcel, it was huge, tasty, came with a side salad and presented well. Such a difference and when I questioned this, I was told ‘should I tell the chef?’ - yes was my answer!! I seriously would stick to drinks and don’t waste your time with the food.

We went to the Fish Canteen (the outdoor eating part of the Pavillion) one evening for a bite to eat. The young woman who brought us our meals initially brought us the wrong food. She didn’t really know what to do when we said it was not our order and just stood there. Finally we told her to take it back with a list of what we had ordered and after another wait she returned with the correct food. My 5 calamari rings were lovely, but everyone else’s meals were not. The fish in batter was more batter than fish, plus it was very soggy. My friend ordered halloumi, which was just one piece, again in soggy batter. Chips were oven chips which were pasty and of a small portion size. Poor service, poor portion size and poorly cooked food on the whole. Quite expensive too for what we had to add insult to injury.

Utterly dreadful. Soulless, awful intrusive music, devoid of any atmosphere. We ordered a pot of tea for two - cost £4 not a fortune but way more than necessary. I agree with the comments about the red figures around the place - not my taste in art. The place looked dirty, tables not cleaned and the toilets were disgusting. I am hard pressed to think of any establishment I have been to in the world that is worse. Avoid.

I find the staff and tea coffee options o.k. here, the one problem is the piped heavy metal music at one end mixing in with the piped "syrupy" music the other end. If you sit in the middle of the cafe where I was it amounted to a deadening assault on the ears. The other factor is the visual aspect. Those horrendous low rent kitsch red figures lining each side of the cafe. The experience left me feeling physically sick.

Visited here with the family and ordering the food at the counter to a less than enthusiastic member of staff. He then continued to bring our food out which was a mixture of adults meals and childs meals and a portion of cheesy garlic bread. The cheesy garlic bread turned up with no cheese and when told the guy he said well the chef said it had cheese and I replied well clearly we can both see it hasn't. He then took the garlic bread away and brought it back with cheese and dropped a piece on the table. He then walked away didnt say anything then after a further 15mins brought back 1 piece of garlic bread by this point all the mains had be finished. Kids fish fingers consisted of 5 fingers whilst the kids sausage consisted of 1 sausage. Adults meal were perfectly reasonable standard for the price. Generally the atmosphere was nice sat on the decking. Employing staff with no enthusiasm, people skills or generally manners will always make this place a poor place to dine. I would not eat at this place again which is a shame as beautiful location.

This is my third review of The Pavilion over time and I was hoping that I could report the continued improvement on the reopened pier. I can’t, it’s probably the worst it’s ever been. The latte is so wish washy and weak that I tried to take it back but couldn’t face the queue of two (with two people serving) as service is painfully slow. I went to the manager instead and complained to him. Granted another latte arrived but as weak, tasteless and unenjoyable as the first. Has nobody done the quality taste test??? I left it after one sip that made me wince. There is no excuse for an insipid and nasty coffee bean, instant would taste better. I’m a regular visitor to the pier and visit the cafe in support as it’s the only revenue generator on it but that was my last.

The system is you have to pay for an ice cream before choosing your flavours. We paid for two scoops each and then found out that they had run out of vanilla, chocolate and mint choc chip. Disappointing flavours left which had little flavour to them. Staff looked rushed off their feet and couldn't handle all the business. Wouldn't go back.

Ordered just two basic drinks. One Diet Coke (which came in the form of a can with a cheap plastic cup stuck on top...) and a coffee. My husband ordered himself the coffee at the same time as my drink (there was no queue and the cafe was virtually empty...) and it took nearly 30 minutes to be brought out (after two reminders that he still hadn't received it...) Great location but disappointing otherwise . Went for morning coffee and cake. Only cakes available were cup cakes, nothing else, no Victoria Sponge, coffee or fruit cakes, not a scone in sight, fruit or cheese, just ultra sweet over decorated cup cakes. So ended up with pre packed biscuits, not what we had imagined we have on the Pier! Also waited fifteen minutes for the coffee to arrive and served without a smile. Would not recommend a visit, head for the Old Town where there is fabulous choice of coffee shops selling a great variety of homemade cakes. Come on Hastings Pier, get this sorted, you're missing a great opportunity.

After the fire at the Pier, the local authority who were making a loss and were getting in debt, sold it to a Sheikh Millionaire. He has turned the Pier around and has established a well organised, friendly and welcoming environment. The food is of a very good standard, the selection of alcoholic drinks, although not vast, is good. Please note: You have to order your food at one end of the restaurant, and if you want an alcoholic drink, that must be ordered at the other end of the restaurant. The seating area outside and through the restaurant has been superbly upgraded and so too has the entire Pier. The new glass topped seating in the main area is lovely, with new chairs and free deck chairs to sit in overlooking the water. Highly recommended.

As a local and lover of the beautiful pier I have been coming to The Pavilion pretty much every week for coffee since it opened and it’s always been a bit hit & miss (when it first opened I ate there too) but as it’s mostly staffed by volunteers and students I’ve not minded. And there’s the view! But in recent times (before the new owner) things have taken a turn for the worse. You order your coffee and although they typically have 3 people milling behind the counter you have to take a number and they bring it to you. This despite the fact that there’s rarely a queue and at least one of them could rustle up a coffee if a half decent barista was on site. Today’s cool flat white was delivered without delay (unusual) but with so much of it in the saucer that I needed to put a napkin on it. No comment was made by the server. Frankly it shouldn’t have been served. This is one of the reasons that I have diversified in my quest for a decent pit stop. Someone needs to get a grip of the place before it’s too late.

A bit more expensive than your average seaside fish and chips, but in a lovely location. Good kids menu, and staff went out of their way to be helpful to my dietary requirements, serving my fish baked rather than in batter. Chips were not as well cooked as they should have been. Service was a bit slow - at least there were some quirky things for our two-year-old to go and look at on the pier while he waited. The food was fine, bit expensive for what it was, the service was a bit slow and the staff did not seem very motivated though I have seen worse. Do they really have to have music blaring out though? I have read reviews of this establishment dating back from two years ago. Despite assurances of improvement from management, it appears nothing has changed. It took half an hour for my meal to be served and in terms of quality, mediocre at best, along with the price being excessive for what was received. I feel there were enough staff to cope with demand but appeared disorganised, therefore training should be warranted, along with a more viable system in place. As it stands now, If you do not mind paying high charges for poor service, scant portions and mediocre food go ahead, otherwise avoid this establishment. I realise someone has to make a living from such a business, however whoever owns this eatery must be laughing on his or her way to the bank. I have amended my original review of this eatery that was inadvertently based on Hastings Pier, however there is massive room for improvement.

Went twice whilst down from Sheffield, as the pier is such a good meeting place. My honest opinion is that the restaurant owners know they can get away with poor and overpriced menu because they are on the pier and not much else is there. I ordered a fish platter and got a minuscule amount of smoked salmon, a spoonful of pate and a small ramekin of something really weird, which i can only describe as a crab butter. All to eat with a piece of bread so thin that you could see through it. Even for a starter it was simply not enough, especially at £8.50 for the pleasure! Second time I only ordered a drink, asked for a bottle of cider, gave a £5 note, expecting some coins back - nope, no change from a fiver! Also, two counters on either side of a long restaurant and you need to use one for the alcoholic drinks and the other for hot drinks and food. not ideal with two little kids in tow! Next time visiting the pier I will be prepared - packed lunch all the way!

After posting a positive review on here a few weeks ago, I returned to The Pavilion in March and, wow, talk about two wildly different experiences. This time around, the staff appeared disinterested and the place was really cold; they had a couple of electric heaters on the go. More were needed, though, with shivering customers reluctant to take off their coats, gloves, hats etc. But, hey, at least the bored looking waitress, sitting by the bar, had a heater pointed right at her, so that's something. I ordered the cooked breakfast; the bacon, tomato and mushroom were burnt, the only things passable were the toast and sausage. I will probably return as really enjoyed my first visit, but will expect better service and food.

On a day out in Hastings, we decided to visit the new pier and find somewhere for lunch.

Wonderful contemporary decor with comfortable seating and stunning views of the beach. Staff very courteous and polite. They got our order wrong slightly and gave us a full refund even though we were happy to pay.

We had to wait for our food to arrive for about 45 mins. Even the drinks took them 15 mins. Food was okay, was expecting better for the wait though. Was okay for one tone visit but not sure if we'd go back.

If you don’t have enough for 2 portions of soup, come clean. On this sunny weekday afternoon at the end of what may have been a busy lunch period, we were served 2 bowls of bland and watery pea and mint soup, and a child’s portion of linguine with tomato sauce, which my young niece tells me was fine. The side order of chips we ordered was clearly not going to arrive within a reasonable time of us finishing our soup, so we cancelled it.

I was really impressed with The Pavilion and will definitely be returning. It was slightly too early for lunch when we dropped by on a windy, rainy day; they were still serving the breakfast menu, so we had drinks and waited half an hour or so. The staff were really friendly and attentive, the menu was just right (not too long, not too short) with an impressive selection of vegan options and I liked the laidback vibe of the place and quirky decor. Great views as well. What's not to like?

After heading down to the pier this weekend with my partner, we decided to try out vegan 'fish' and chips on the Veganuary menu. This was delicious! Our food came quickly and was presented well. A really different and tasty meal, nice to see a restaurant in Hastings with a great vegan menu. I hope the pier choses to keep this on the menu. Would recommend.

Very disappointing. Soup was served lukewarm. Was reheated but average on flavour. South coast cod, chips and mushy peas was adequately hot, but chips were the worst I've had in Hastings (looked liked they'd been hanging about for a long long time) - I couldn't eat half of them. Batter was soggy. Serving of mushy peas was miniscule. The tartar sauce was nice as was the green tea. Lots of staff, all very uninterested in the service they were providing. I won't be going back, there are a plethora of infinitely better eating establishments in Hastings.

our daughter booked a table, it was a lovely sunny afternoon, the menu was limited but the food was great, the service was very attentive despite being very busy, its not a cosy café, and can be a little draughty, but well worth a visit

In the week that the pier won the Stirling Prize, someone should have been giving the staff a bit of a pep talk here. Very disappointed. In the following order: the person taking my order said that things on the specials menu were "off", so I went back and asked my friend who'd ordered a special to chose something else. She did, but it was also "off". Then someone told the woman at the till that the specials were in fact "on", so I ordered one of those. That salmon special was fine, as were my husband's moules, but my chicken and spinach pasta was really awful - slices of chicken out of a packet and spinach leaves in a gloopy, soupy sauce. Very poor. This place needs to get money, and it won't get repeat business if it doesn't do better.

Very sloooow service. Had Sunday breakfast outside. Good reasonably priced food. Only problem we had to wait 40 minutes for our order of full English and a bacon and egg bap. Wasn’t busy and plenty of staff working so why the wait? They were probably the most popular items off the breakfast menu so should be very quick and easy to prepare and serve. The wait was so long we’d long finished our tea and were ready to ask for our money back when it finally arrived.

Popped in for something to eat while visiting the fab Pier. They had run out of my first preference (by 1.15?) so I chose the cheese with a cup of tea. Tea arrived and I drank the pot before the cheese arrived - 25 minutes wait for 3 very small slices of tired cheeses of which one was totally inedible and stale biscuits for which I paid £7.50. So not worth it.

Not good by any stretch. The date on the sandwich had two days left on it. It should have been binned the day before I bought it. Only bought the wrapped up version because at 1:30 on a Thursday lunch they couldn't make the sandwiches on the menu. One of us had fish and chips that look and taste dreadful. Lots of great places to eat in Hastings, this isn't it. Shame because the view is great.

Awful food. Lots of cracking restaurants in Hastings. This isn't one of them. Even the chips are awful.

Fries were raw, jacket potato with shrimp still frozen on the inside. En pie was tough and barely warmed up in the microwave. Glasses dirty and tables sticky. I've never had such bad food.

Really cheap drinks, fun atmosphere and easy to get served despite the place being really busy. Us girls had a great night.

Fab breakfast, real food, real prices! Not a chain not mega bucks, just basic decent grub. Lots of regulars and locals so must be good! We enjoyed it. Clean and tidy, tucked all my boxes

Disgusted by Lee Murphy's behavior tonight, a complete disrespect to this company. As someone who has spent a lot at this club, you have lost my business forever.

Took my elderly mum in here for a lunch. Paper signs up everywhere saying they would be using takeaway cups due to a leaking dishwasher - the same signs have been up for almost a week ! Anyway I wasn’t ordering coffee so didn’t think anything of it. I ordered two toasted sandwiches and a bottle of juice. The sandwiches were plonked down on the table in paper bags with no napkins or cutlery. I questioned the Barista who simply said “you’ve read the signs “!! Wow - the customer service in this place is terrible - email sent to Head Office! Incidentally this was NOT the trainee barista but the fully trained one!!! Not good enough! So much so that I will definitely not be returning to this which is my local Nero! For this dreadful service I paid £14.30!!!! Ps the sandwiches were actually quite revolting and not like some I have recently had in Bury St Edmond’s Nero.
