Jempson's Cafe in Hastings

Popped in for a coffee break but was so disappointed with the experience . Bought an apple donut and a cappuccino but was given the donut on a paper bag? I asked for a plate but was simply told 'we don't have plates to give'? So had to eat a very messy donut on a PAPER BAG which I had no idea where's it's been. Secondly the air conditioning wasn't working and it was so warm, the staff were sweating. Not the experience I was expecting.

Quality, selection and service all top notch. Don't turn up expecting exactly what you want, but instead prepare to be surprised by something unexpected on the day, and far better than you imagined. Pick up all the Hastings gossip in the outside seating :)))

Emailed you but not had any reply - wondered how you justified not only reducing the size of your Rolls but increasing a small bacon or Sausage Roll from 2.95 to 4.00 when a large prawn or chicken or any in the chiller are only 3.95 TOTAL MADNESS ! Along with a huge increase on your pastry s I feel as a company you are now taking the piss ! Will point out that can't fault the two ladies in the morning for great attitude and I feel for them when it's clear no thought or common sense even logic goes into your pricing lately and I will be another very regular that has already dissapointingly moved on.

Had one of the best Oat Latte's thanks to Helen, great little Cafe. Glad it was busy compare to Cafe Nero and Costa near by. Always support local business 👍

Lovely place to get lunch & hot drink .staff friendly .

I booked an Afternoon Tea and the staff were amazing, especially accomadating extra guests with tea cups. The price was exceptional for the quality and quantity. Perfect. Definitely going to book again. The only reason for a 4* for atmosphere was due to the workman banging, but that wasn't the staffs fault and we were informed when booking.

Were there today at lunch time and could not have a Cream Tea as they had run out of fruit scones. Although there were four staff on the counter the service was chaotic even though the cafe was not that busy. No organisation on the counter with staff not knowing what each was doing and getting orders wrong. No complaints about food but the whole cafe is looking very dirty and scruffy. Badly needs cleaning and repainting. Quite dark and cluttered looking. Will not be rushing back again.

Whenever I go to Hastings it is a must to visit this great cafe.

I called here when visiting Hastings today. What a lovely place with friendly staff, and a wonderful selection of food, I'll certainly call again.

Went with friends for coffee. Service seemed great and the place was clean.

A lovely light lunch in the hastings sun. Good value, freshly prepared sandwiches and salads. Friendly and helpful staff carried a tray outside for us. I would go again.

Enjoyed taking coffee with a colleague at Jempsons Hastings. A much nicer atmosphere than the Nationals and felt warmly welcomed as individuals rather than just a customer. Did rate for food as we only enjoyed coffee.

Very nice customer service, good food with plenty of options. A nice place to relax and hide away from the busy town life , upstairs better seating but very old and worn sofas and chairs.

Okish place..plenty of seating, upstairs too..all sandwiches prepacked. Staff not very chatty. BUT this place is filthy!! Could do with a deep clean. Wouldn't take a rocket scientist to mop floors, wipe tables properly and clean overhead lighting. Will not be returning.

SO expensive.....but the food is great! I occasionally get a blt in the morning if i just want to taste something genuinely good.

Hastings venue. Stopped for a coffee break service was good. Venue itself needs a deep clean and refresh very grubby around the edges. In a position vying for business alongside other numerous cafes wouldn't rush back.

Everything is lovely about jempsons, but they over rate themselves on pricing.

On a cold wet early January lunchtime, my friend and I were looking for a cafe. Not much choice as it was 3rd January. They Rye bakery was open and fairly busy. Firstly I was given the wrong cake. I wanted a cream bun but was given something different. Even though it was to eat in it was thrown in a brown bag and pushed along the counter. It was reluctantly changed to one I wanted with a “it’s the same thing, just a different shape” grumble. Same with the coffee, just a paper cup. I also agree with other reviews - the coffee tasted awful. No sooner had we sat down, when a member of staff came over and said “Just to let you know we have a fire inspector coming. He’s on his way and you can’t stay inside when he arrives, but you are welcome to sit outside.” Marvellous, why not tell us before we order? The fire inspector arrived dressed in his Jempson’s uniform and he sat down with his paperwork. We did as requested and sat outside under the awning with our (stale) bun and bitter coffee, at least we were a little protected from the rain. After a while we noticed that the inside seemed to have new customers, so despite being asked to leave previously they had decided to let more customers in. The inspector was still engrossed in his paperwork. I found the staff too brusque and old school “take it or leave it”; there was no attempt at customer service. I don’t like the paper bag and cup either, as it’s a cafe and we were trying to sit down inside. There used cup mountain must be huge at the end of the day and isn’t very green is it? The Rye Bakery is still Jempson’s, despite trying a new image. It’s dated and seems stuck in the 80’s. Don’t get me wrong I like retro and tradition but this was not a pleasant experience. A name change cannot alter what is basically an old fashioned business model where the comfort of the customer seems to be the least of their concerns. I will not be returning.

One of the main reasons I visit my friends in Hastings. This place is a great bakery cackshop snacks and coffee shop in one . The seasonal far is always fresh and displayed well. You can at times get bread mix for home baking. Local sorced products. Staff ard great nothing to mutch trouble. Keep up the good work. Paul from brtghton

The whole place is not as good as it used to be. There's a good selection of cakes and bakes. For some reason they didn't have any warm sausage rolls despite having a warming plate for them. Bit odd. The smallest drop of milk was supplied for my tea which again just seems a bit odd. The toilet facilities could do with a flipping good clean. Sadly I suspect that there's either no manager onsite or if there's one then they are not effective.

Excellent bakery and cafe . The staff are wonderful, incredibly helpful and nothing is too much ask. Can make up sandwiches and rolls for you, yum yum. The cakes and buns are to die for, Belgium bun for me so fresh and tasty. Gypsy tarts. Yum yum again. Lovely hot drinks, nice place to sit in or for takeaway

Sat outside with drinks, ice creams and scones. All good quality. I think they were winding down as our party of 11 seemed to catch them out! Friendly staff. Town centre has some interesting characters wandering by while we enjoyed our drinks and food.

Visiting Hastings, support local and have lunch or a quick cup of tea, coffee here! A wide selection of freshly made sandwiches, cakes and pastries and ample seating avaliable. I quite enjoyed the Gypsy Tart, reminded me of the sweet cake that you used to get in school dinners.

Very pleasant place with enough outside seating to choose sun or shade. Service very good.

Visited this morning and had breakfast, great staff and nice food.

Popped in today as they were opening and greeted by the lady and chap setting up. very friendly efficient service. Rolls on display great presentation and taste as good as they look. Also had sausage and bacon roll delicious and dog ejoyed his sausages as well :) Great cafe! Recommended. PS give the two staff this morning a payrise ;)

Lattes are amazing and great value for money but rolls are way overpriced. Would definitely recommend for a latte and doughnut 😊 Been coming back for over 3 years.

Clean, tidy, food & drinks very nice & so were the staff.

Very clean and well organised. Went for coffee and a cake mid morning. We were so impressed with the friendliness of the staff and quality of the food, we found our way back there for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed that as well!!

Always a good standard for cleanliness in here reassuring at the moment. A friendly hello from a nice crew of staff and the food is always good and the new addition of the pasta pot is great and at such a low price 10 out of 10

Some of d eatable items price is too high. Need to b reduce or atleast maintain this same price for a long while. (2020 to 2022 atleast). Service really nice but when i got cafe did'nt see any paper serviettes . Theme n seatings r comfort. Feels cosy. Menu really i dont like need to upgrade.toilet r always clean n hygiene thats amazing. Overall nothing special but its gud 2go. Comparing to nearby costa, jempson initially better. 🙏Nanri

I find the staff very friendly and the food and drink great

Great coffee, nice range of varieties too. Lovely tea available if you prefer. Cakes and pastries are not my thing but my friends say they are to die for. The only food I have here is the sausage rolls, which are lovely. Reasonable prices too. Staff are very friendly, polite and service is excellent.

The worst sandwiches and wraps we have bought in a long long time. The beach birds ended up eating most of them.

Visited this cafe for the first time today the quality of service by the ladies behind the counter was the best that I have seen for some time the owner should be proud to have them as employees very clean great food well done ladies will be back Dave Riley I had a paste and then bought some cakes thank you

Jempson's is my favourite place to go in Hastings. The coffee is great as is the food, the WiFi is completely reliable and the staff are absolutely brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble for them and rhe Customer service is first class. Highly recommended.

Staff are very rude would not recommend.....all I asked why does it take 15 minutes to make a tea 😂😂
