Pub had some interesting features and food is reputedly very good but as, noted by another reviewer, staff were quite stand offish - paricularly the woman who served me. They seemed friendly enough to the people they presumably knew sitting around the bar but otherwise were quite frosty - we noticed with other people who came in, not just us. Shame as we would have stayed to eat otherwise.

The food is lovely at this pub. I had calamari, and it was amazing. My daughter had bbq chicken fillets, which she loved. We'll definitely eat there again. Don't let the interior put you off. The staff are friendly and the service and food was great 👍

First visit to Hastings today. weather was very hot.called in to The Hastings Arms greeted by lovely guy behind the bar.ordered scampi salad and fries.best scampi we had tasted for a long time food was well presented and delicious. Highly recommend .

Best Sunday roast on the South Coast! Veggies cooked to firm perfection, not a mush like some places. Lean slices of meat cut from a proper joint, tasty gravy and decent portions too - best pub grub around (and I’m particularly fussy about my roasts). That’s it - can’t go anywhere else, I’m spoiled now!

A pub next to our guest house in Old Town Hastings, we had a couple of drinks here and really enjoyed the Curry Tuesday a lot, food was delicious! Lovely staff will take care of you, most of the patrons seem to be locals, that's what we like in a public house. Thanks

We had been searching around the town for a while looking for a traditional pub that served traditional fish and chips. So glad that we found this place. We had fish and chips twice with mushy peas and home made tartar sauce. We waited a while for the food (a good sign when it comes to fish and chips) and they were honestly worth the wait. The fish was so fresh with a lovely batter and the chips were cooked perfectly. My 6 year old had the nuggets and these were also of a good quality. He said they were the nicest nuggets he’d ever eaten. We’ll be back when next in Hastings.

A great quirky venue but very miserable, disinterested bar staff. Put us off staying for dinner. The atmosphere stars are for the venue itself and customers!

Yet another outstanding meal today. Food is consistently good. Delicious white Rioja as well. Great ambience. Bravo team Arms.

My partner Lou and I have just had a fantastic meal. Starters were whitebait for her and squid for me. The whitebait tasted as if it had just been caught, battered and fried then served! The squid was so tender with a sweet chilli dip and just as tasty. But the best rave goes to the Spanish style fish stew. We can't recommend this delicious meal enough. The base sauce was very tasty with the flavour of chorizo, chick peas and herbs & spices. Generous portions of clams, whitefish, prawns and mussels. Very satisfying with a slice of toasted tiger bread to mop up the delicious sauce. Will be back for more or the Sri Lankan curry next visit.

Excellent Sunday roast. The medium was huge. Excellently cooked. Friendly fast service.

I have used this excellent hostelry for Sunday lunch and their special nights. These are Tuesday evening for 'curry' and Thursday evening for 'Tapas'. Glorious food and wonderful staff. One of my friends remarked ' if I lived down here, I would be a regular on a Thursday!'

Lovely old boozer, with decent beer and a good menu of home cooked food. Friendly and fun customer service from Alex at the bar.

Popped in for a late lunch. Steak and kidney pudding, fresh veg and mash. Fab. Goats cheese salad very fresh. Staff brill. Just a bit quiet but otherwise would massively recommend.

Lovely ambience & pub. One of the tastiest Roast Dinners I have ever had. Would highly recommend eating here.

Quite overcrowded, ripe for disease to spread, but apart from that, it's decent. Definitely a list topper for pub crawls. Not recommended for prolonged (1+ hours) stay, though.

I didn't expect it to be so good, infact I can honestly say it was one of the best meals we have had out for a long time. There was four of us and we all had something different and there was no complaints from any of us.

The food is really awful, it has no seasoning or flavour at all , the staff is also rude , and the food take ages to be served , the atmosphere buy you in , but despite that , the place is totally not worth it

Tapas on a Thursday! Place is amazing, you have to be patient with the food as the chef prepares it all from scratch, good food takes time and this guy is serving up great food! So expect to wait a little, if you want fast food, go to McDonald's!

We popped in here on Sunday for a roast with some friends who had never been to Hastings before, so we wanted to show them the real Old Town charm. The Hastings Arms didn't let us down. A lovely cosy pub with super friendly staff really set the tone. Our reserved table was ready to go and we had drinks in hand in no time. I opted to get some whitebait as a starter, as being by the sea, it would be silly not to! It was tasty, and even my three year old loved the idea of eating whole fish! Next up was the roast, and it was fantastic. I personally had the lamb and am very glad I didn't get the large. I can generally put away a roast of any size without too much trouble, but even the medium is a very generous serving size. The meat was delicious and not dry like a lot of lamb roasts can be, so that was great. A special mention goes to the gravy. Oh that gravy! So thick and full of flavour! All too often a pub gravy is a watery mess, but not this one. It was perfect! All in all, I we loved it. The kids serving looked very much like our adult ones, just served in a big bowl, so that made us chuckle. Our friends loved Hastings so much that they opted not to visit Rye the next day and to mooch around old town some more. Great tucker and I would strongly recommend a visit!

Roast beef Sunday lunch was very good plenty of tender beef and variety of vegetables

We'd booked for a birthday celebration of 17 people. Table provided for 15 and when we asked the guy at the bar, he said he would get us 2 more chairs. When we said we wouldn't fit around an already snug setting, he said "well you'll have to". The lady then came over and started to count us incorrectly and when we said we can count and 2 people were without seats she got rather stroppy. We decided to leave due to the ignorance and attitude. Mistakes happen and it could have been easily rectified by them but they decided to handle it this way instead. They then proceeded to shout after us as we left, "Thanks guys!" In a very sarcastic way. Shocking hospitality which meant they missed out on a nearly £1k bill which a very hospitable restaurant gained instead.

Visited at lunchtime with my brother last week. About half a dozen 'locals' enjoying a beer. The guy behind the bar was reasonably welcoming and the beer (Shepherd Neame's Spitfire) well kept and clear as a bell. Unfortunately we were overcharged at the first attempt, but the mistake was realised and quickly resolved. Interior was clean with excellent furnishing, which reflected the period and heritage of the pub. Lots of nooks and cosy areas for patrons to enjoy their drinks and soak up the atmosphere. The food looked good judging by what we saw being served. Unfortunately, a large group of mums with babes and toddlers arrived and occupied a corner, raising the noise level and making what was a quiet pint into a less relaxing experience. But they were quite rightly enjoying the pub in their own way. Overall a decent experience and certainly worth a return visit.

The wine is lovely but Westend of London Prices. £9 for large glass of white wine that only cost £5.50 in Sainsburys. But nice friendly atmosphere and very cool. Wished they didn't use plain bleach spray to wash wooden tables down after use. But won't stop me using the Pub again as it is a Real Pub still xox

Lovely little pub which I always visit when in the Old Town in the evening. Great secluded patio area out back perfect for warm evenings.

Very nice friendly pub. Had a curry which is done on 'Ruby Tuesday ' and is good value. Freshly cooked and really good value. But the specials are a bit more flavoursome. Good range of beers.

Lovely pub. Good choice of drinks including gins. Beer was fresh and tasty. Bar staff were friendly and welcoming. Lots of tables. Would be a five if it had a lick of paint. Will visit again.

Sunday lunch OMG Roast dinner absolutely fantastic love their food in there Spitfire larger for me plus many more drinks than you can shake a stick at lol including cocktails What are you waiting for ? And a stones throw from the amusements and beach in the old town Sun trap rear garden Book me in I’m coming back down Summer time fun and a great establishment to relax in

Visited twice this week. Both times brilliant atmosphere and food. First evening usual counter menu (had smoked haddock - delicious). Second time was tappas night - food was amazing (recommend the squid and flash steak) Friendly welcoming staff. Nice to find a pub that happily accepted our dogs with us. Will definitely be back AGAIN.

A nice old pub with good drink and fantastic fish and chips with brilliant service. I always go there when I'm in Hastings you really can't beat the fresh fish and chips.

The Mecca of pubs. The Cathedral of pubs. A proper pub run on traditional lines. The best pub in the Shepherd and Neame fleet. A spiritual ( no pun intended unless you drink spirits of course ) up lifting experience every time you visit. Love the place.
