We've never had a bad meal here and more recently have started to come over for the occasional breakfast BUT, don't you ever clear and clean the tables without having to be asked to do so? I can understand that during busy periods it might be difficult to keep on top of this as the turnover is very quick but why don't you employ a proper table busser for the purpose? Instead, if you make enough fuss, someone will eventually come over and squirt a bit of cleaner onto the table, then proceed to wipe it with a dirty rag pulled from their pocket. Not the most hygienic and I've started to carry bacterial wipes with me now as I can do a better job myself but this is far from satisfactory.

We had some friends come to visit us, so thought we would eat at this Restaurant. We arrived at 6.00 pm as we were told it can get very busy. We found the table on the mezzanine floor was quieter, so found a table for 4. The menu is fairly extensive, so we all chose different meals. Could not find starters on the menu, so just went foir a main, many meals had free drinks, so the biggest reason was the cost. Where else can you get two meals & two alcholic drinks for £17. You need to go to the bar to order your meals against a table number. The staff were polite & efficient. We ordered & paid separately, but the meals were delivered to your table quickly & all at the same time. It is not fine dining, but for the price, you cannot fault what is on offer. The building is a bit tired, but we have seen worse even in a fine dining establishment.. We had to park in Asda car park, but that was close & suitable for disabled. Toilet on the ground floor, basic but clean & tidy. Not a lot more to say really, but if you want a quick, cheap meal then this is the pp;ace to go..

Came to the Parson's Barn recently for lunch with friends. Tried out a delicious new Gin Ting gin with passion fruit flavour and ordered an exciting new gourmet buttermilk chicken burger with chilli jam and brie. Unfortunately (some way or another) my order was mixed up with a BBQ grilled chicken burger. It was a little disappointing because I had to wait for mine to be remade whilst my friends tucked into their food, however, the staff were very understanding and my new dish arrived before my friends had finished their meals.

Popped in here on Saturday evening to save cooking. Having seen on a previous visit that they now do pizzas, thought I would try a ham and mushroom one - big mistake. It couldn't have had less toppings on it - there wasn't even one mushroom on the whole thing let alone any ham and the mozzarella amounted to six small blobs. No additional cheese or seasoning. To say it was tasteless would be an understatement. Fortunately, one of the members of staff asked how our meals were (husband's noodles and chicken weren't much better) and I gave an honest answer. He apologised and said he would speak to the kitchen and his manager. He came back a short time later and offered us free desserts which we declined, although said we appreciated the offer. I know it's a Wetherspoons, but having eaten here before we were very disappointed and will think twice about going back to eat and if we do, I will definitely not be ordering a pizza!!

Waitress walking around 5minutes after our order with chicken burger, but with black pudding on it, trying to find out who ordered it. Then 10 minutes later 3 steaks and chicken burger(with no black pudding) came out. The chips were cold, was this the chicken burger with the black pudding taken off? So waitress took it away to heat chips up, so once again as a party of 4 we didn't sit and eat together, I had nearly eaten my dinner before the chicken burger and heated chips came out! I do not use the app that is now available as I like to talk to the staff who are very accommodating if you want to change an item - I like their ham eggs and chhips, but like to change to a jacket potato instead. I just hope they are not increasing technology at the expense of enough staff (that is my fear). The self-service refillable coffee is great - but now that it is from an 'automatic' coffee machine there was a queue and it ran out of coffee beans. I liked the old filter coffee - it was hot, tasted good and was quick to pour - can we have this back please. Still the good thing about the Parson's Barn is also the lack of music - just the hum of conversations and people noise not musak - do not change this please.

The lunch was nice, the staff very helpful and seemed to care! Like the barn as it’s modern and clean. Does get busy though and maybe need more staff serving at bar as seen people walk away from there. But all in all it’s good food etc

We have visited The Parsons Barn for food and drinks on three occasions since moving back to Thorpe Bay in July. This is not fine dining exactly but we have no complaints about the food and you do get service with a smile. We usually pick a meal deal that includes a drink but I don't understand why rose wine isn't on the drinks list. I would like to see this added. Currently you have a choice of red or white only.

I went to the Parsons Barn for a drink, this is my favourite local Wetherspoon, there was a good selection of beer at reasonable prices. Recommended.

Have eaten here quite a few times over the last year. USUALLY pretty good but a few problems recently. One breakfast was served with plastic pots upside down on plates which beans had obviously been microwaved in. How can you not notice you are carrying plates with pots still on? Last week my jacket potato had a piece of plastic in it. I was given a refund but no apology. Tonight my naan bread was rock hard. My daughter had gammon. Some of the chjps looked fine but some from an older batch. The same with the peas.To be honest I am going off the Barn.

The food itself is ok, what you would expect for the prices. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait on the food. Service not great and expect to be ignored when standing at the bar. Overall would visit again.

I come here almost once a week as the food is almost always perfect. Just sometimes the meat and fish isn't perfect. The only other thing is that the wait can be quite long, and one time we had to an hour as other people who came in after us were served and left before we even got ours, yet it was the same meal! Apart from that, a wonderful family friendly pub and restruant. Many wonderful times here.

Popped in for lunch and very pleasantly surprised we had three drinks and a meal each for about £30. My wife had the lamb shank which was succulent and very well cooked and I had the fish and chips which was delightful ( thick bit of fish with crunchy batter) and after previous disasters in the barn was very happy at how things have improved and will definitively return - good effort Barn staff and thanks was lovely

Visited The Parsons Barn again for yet another fantastic meal. Have always enjoyed a visit here as the food is fresh, hot and well presented. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Using their app makes ordering so simple, you don't even have to leave your table. Always a pleasure to return, and will often.

Last Friday was a beautiful sunny day & my friend & I had the day off of work so we decided to go for lunch and have few drinks at the parsons barn. I have visited here many times with my partner, family and friends over the last two years; my family are regular visitors and my mum had plans to come here at the end of July for her 50th birthday, later on this month. We arrived at the parsons barn early afternoon, and, as it was so hot, decided to order a drink straight away to sit outside with whilst we decided what we were going to eat. We both ordered an alcoholic drink at the bar, neither of us were ID'd - which is not uncommon as I am a 24 year old woman and my friend is a 26 year old man. We proceeded outside, to the beer garden. After around 40 minutes of talking - neglecting the menus, I was feeling very hot and decided I wanted another vodka & diet coke, and a couple of bottles of water, so I went inside to order. After queuing for a few minutes I was at the bar and ordered my drinks, I was straight away ID'd, so I showed my provisional driving license, the photo of me is me 7 years ago - I look slightly different but you can see its me (just with a different hair cut and younger looking). I was instantly refused service 'no the photo doesn't look like you', in the 7 years I have used this ID I have NEVER been refused service due to the photo not looking like me?? If I had ever experienced I'd have simply had a new photo taken for it?? I go out regularly, in southend/basildon/london etc to bars, pubs and clubs where I am regularly ID'd and I have never ever ever been refused service due to not looking like my photo!! The womans attitude was absolutely disgusting, she dismissed me immediately, I was so confused? I still purchased my waterd as I was really hot and as I was walking back outside I heard the elderly gentleman who was behind me in the queue ask the woman what size lagers they sell and she very rudely snapped 'small and large obviously'. Outside I told my friend what had happened, he couldn't believe it and it really wound him up as you can clearly see it is me in the photo - the woman was just being seriously awkward! We both decided to go in together and ask to speak to a manager - as I enjoy this pub/restaurant, I have never had a problem here and I just couldnt believe this. The woman was no where to be seen so my friend told me to order another drink - which I did. The man serving us ID'd us but accepted my ID with no problem, I asked him 'do i look like me in that photo?' which he replied 'yes I can see its you, there is nothing wrong with this ID', I went on to tell him the issue I had had and he simply said he accepted the ID, there was no issue with it. Within minutes of returning outside the same woman who had refused me service appeared, she stormed over stating she had refused me service. She asked if i had another form of ID on me, I explained I didn't because I have never ever been refused service with the ID i use.. she told me to leave and that I don't look like the photo. This is when I asked for her name and said I will be making a formal complaint as she has just lost the parsons barn a regular customer + all of her family, friends and partner who also all regularly use it. She told me her name was Laura and that she was the manager there, she was unbelievably rude, unhelpful and deliberately awkward. I left shortly after getting a refund on my drink (which I had to ask for!) and went across the road to the meadowlark - where I had no issue with my ID or being served alcohol, so a happy ending after all.. just very annoying! My family own and run a cafe/restaurant where I work as the manager and her attitude and customer service skills were horrendous, customers chose to come to the parsons barn to spend their money - this should be respected and our experience should be made as pleasant and enjoyable as possible! This woman clearly does not enjoy her job and does not like people, no one wants to be served by someone who's miserable and rude, I am sure many won't be returning due to her unhelpful and ignorant ways. I was debating whether to bring this to anyone's attention, as none of us will be returning, but I thought if no one ever said anything.. nothing would ever be resolved! Just such a shame as I have always loved the parsons barn!

A nice clean and friendly place. Such a contrast between this and The Last Post , also a Wetherspoons , in Southend. That was noisy and very cramped, this was a delightful place. plenty of space between the tables. Staff were able to recommend a very nice cider to go with the meal. The jacket potato came with lots of tuna and a dish of honey and mustard mayonnaise and was served with a nice amount of mixed salad. Very good value.

My hubby and I over 60's granddaughter aged 6 and grandson 28. Weekday lunch. Barman looked about 15 refused grandson a beer. Fair enough if he thinks my grandson looks under age if just drinking but we had already ordered food with him and you are allowed to have a beer with a meal at 16. He wouldnt have it though and ruined what would have been a nice occasion. Staff training needed

I have visited this Wetherspoon pub on a few occasions. It's a new build, modern with an old style decor. There is plenty of seating, a downstairs area, upstairs area and outside too. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and the coffee in the morning is refillable, which helps to start the day! I ordered a breakfast wrap, it was delicious, everything cooked perfectly and a good start to the day. My husband had eggs benedict, everything was cooked lovely too. My son had a full cooked breakfast and had no complaints and my mum had eggs royale which was yummy. This pub is one of the best Wetherspoon pubs about and a lovely place for a cheap breakfast.

We visited this Wetherspoon's pub with four friends for Sunday lunch. Many Wetherspoon's have interesting interiors but this one was especially attractive due to it being a grade II listed building. The food and drinks selection were varied and very good value for money. First time we've been here but we would visit again if in the area.

This is a good place if you are on a budget or just want to fuel up with a drink, as the food is amazingly cheap but it does show here and there. They do have a great range of drinks here 10 types of Gin, Rum and Whisky each. Being a barn it can be noisy here but it is not oppressively so and they have a garden so sitting outside in the sun is an option. Overall, its a Wetherspoons.
