Estuary Restaurant in Southend-on-Sea

Had breakfast in Estuary arches many times but never again. Food was very average and at £20 a head with a tea very expensive. White cheap thin bread for toast and some of the food was cold. Charged extra if wanted scrambled instead of poached/fried. One small sausage, one bacon, one hash brown and beans £13.95 plus £1 extra for scrambled egg. Two halves of the worst white bread. Steer clear - there are better places to have a breakfast along there.

Very Big portion sizes and food tasty. Was quite busy as a Saturday evening and we were seated and served in very good time. Older Scottish waiter very knowledgeable about menu and very good. Younger staff great too, all having a respectful joke and seem to get on well. Price as expected for location. My only personal issue is I should have asked for more wraps for my fajitas.

Why people flock to this awful place, I have no idea. The staff are belligerent at best. We asked to move our table ‘bring your menus with you’. The food is awful - salad leaves are unwashed, biting onto grit is not good. The tomatoes are unceremoniously thrown onto the plate, uncut. The salad sauce was rank! Train your staff to ask what gin they would prefer instead of having to ask ‘what gin have you given me?’ The decor is dated and the menus are dirty. Never again! Keep away and keep your money.

The nachos and wings here are unbeatable, affordable, and served in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended for a satisfying meal!

Food is really good here, but I have to say the service is poor, no attention paid by the waitresses We wanted to order more drinks, had to physically search the Resturant for a waitress in the end to order, ( and it wasn't busy ) cutlery put down at end of table for us to sort ourselve by waitress,, I really would expect a better standard of service, for this reason only I wouldn't rush back Management need to oversee how the Resturant is running, as it's cheeky to add service charge, when the service is actually poor

Food was awful. Tasted bitter like the oil was old. Both of us could not eat the food. Was not offered any compensation just kept asking if we wanted to take it home. We had southern fried chicken goujons wraps. Made us cringe as we bit into it. I paid the £40+ bill and left. Wont be going there again. Waitress was away with the fairies. Didn’t have a clue about customer service.

waited ages for service. forgot our drinks twice. waited over 40 mins for mains after starters . just pretty poor service all round for dinner for 2 .food was good when it arrived.

A birthday party meal, food was very good for bulk catering. Recommend for such events, we will visit again for a more personalised experience.

Staff rude, I’ve been countless times for coffee, cocktails, food, never in my life have I been made to pay before I’ve even seen what I’m paying for, drinks arrived and slammed on table, was going to stay for a while and have dinner but booked somewhere else

I visited in a sunny day with my 3 month old sleeping baby and elderly father. Lots of space outside in the shade to sit. After waiting some time, a girl serving came out and wasn’t sure they could accommodate my buggy (which is a Yoyo - the smallest one the market - so small it goes in an airplane overhead locker). Her colleague came out and was very curt, saying they had a no buggy rule - even though they had tons of space. So incredibly and unhelpful staff! But now I see they are 113 out of 117 places to eat in Leigh it makes total sense. Such a shame the staff ruined the experience as the food looks excellent and it has great outdoor seating for a sunny day

Second time in this place. You can tell straight away when a restaurant is run properly when the owner sits you down and delegates his staff to ensure everyone is looked after. The staff in general are so polite and friendly. The food is absolutely unreal, I went for buttermilk chicken burger and it was delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone that fancies great quality food with a friendly service. These guys just do it right!

Food was more like I would expect from a greasy spoon than a restaurant. Service was very poor . Asked twice for the crusty bread which should have come with the mussels but Still never got it . Food was not very appealing when served up.. Left ages without a drink . People walked out because of the service . We won’t be returning

It was the 3rd time eating here yesterday, and the 3rd time the food has been delicious. We will definitely be back.

We went for lunch,food was plentiful and lovely. Cocktails so nice. We sat outside and our waitress was very friendly. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection We shall be booking to come again.

The food was pretty bland. I had the pie with potatoes and green beans. It was a decent portion but it had very little taste … a more tasty gravy would have improved the dish. Very nice place for a lunch, friendly staff, fresh food, good prices, definitely recommend.

Great food absolutely loved it and booked last minute so was very happy we could get a table. It was a little loud and it was difficult to hear but the meal was wonderful as always.

Large portions, but I thought mains were a little pricey. Very busy in bar area and restaurant so getting attention of serving staff a bit difficult too. Staff very friendly.

Food was sublime. I've never had a tastier ciabatta!! We ordered it for a quick lunch before we went to the spa. We did not, however, expect chips and side salad with it! Soooo much food, so little time 🤣 we barely touched it as we were running out of time. That'll teach us to pick a busy restaurant at peak time!

Good food and great service, highly recommend you check out the place. May be a bit out of budget but the food portions are worth the money.

Ate here previously with no issues, but Customer service very poor after visit today. No offer of outdoor heater, Coffee was cold so asked for it to be replaced, just took cup away and topped up with hot Milk/water, no offer to make afresh one. Food was warm at best with again no offer of condiments to accompany meal. Really disappointed today.

If you want cheap anaemic looking bacon and grotty sausage at a bargain price, this is not the place for you. We all had the various English breakfast choices and we weren’t disappointed. A higher priced breakfast, but worth it. The staff are super friendly and the decor is modern and light, a real gem in the heart of Leigh-On-Sea, delicious!

Couples mid week. The fajitas were superb. Best since having in USA. The Thai mussels were delicious served with freshly baked bread and frites. Nice choice of Gins and lovely local brewery beer. Service was good. Staff were cheerful and helpful.

Nice place, great portions but a little overpriced for the types of food. But for location totally expected.

Second visit as wanted to give this restaurant another chance. Probably the worst breakfast I have ever had and the most expensive. Bacon and toast had grit from the grill and had a horrible taste to it. Very oily egg. Service was hurried and not friendly but tip is included on the bill automatically. Music was very loud and my friend and I had to keep repeating ourselves to be heard. Horrible experience. Don't waste your time and money.

Decided to walk the dog on the seafront and take a light lunch on my birthday so popped into The Estuary. The burger I chose was nice but the sides were just too large and were a waste of food as you simply couldn’t eat everything. Shame. Also the chips and onion rings were very oily and rice was under cooked so even if we wanted to eat them it would not have been great. The baileys hot chocolate was nice! The dog enjoyed looking out at the pidgeon trying to scrounge crumbs! Service from the staff was good.

Took 45 mins to recieve breakfast. No explanation as to why it took so long, when we asked waitress said it was busy almost saying it was our fault. Food plain, little taste and costly too. Manager did apologise. However they even charge for tap water. We would never visit again.

Service terrible, waited an age for brunch, yet told by 3 different members of staff it was being plated and the it was cold. I’m sure it would have been nice, if hot, as the quality seemed ok

The food was delicious, and the place was clean and tidy. We had steak and pasta. I would definitely go again.

I would strongly advised boycotting this chain of bars as both the Leigh Broadway and the Westcliff Arches are a true disappointment! It was a real let down and I’d advise anyone to seek independent restaurant where your money will be better spent in the Broadway or Old Leigh. It’s very much a weather spoons with Miller & Carter prices. Will never return and would not recommend It’s cheap quality mass produced meals all reheated and pilled high to take away from quality and the lack cooking skill and capabilities

We visited the estuary on Monday for lunchtime we didn't have any reservation but the venue wasn't that busy, we ordered the estuary burger and the breaded goat cheese salad, the portions are a good size and if you order the mains normally they come with two sides, even chicken wings!!. The vibes in the restaurant were good but a little bit tight between tables, it wasn't that busy so the service was quick and easy and the food came relatively quickly. Personally the onion rings on the burger weren't that great and the salad was short of beetroots just a few here and there but definitely it was tasty. Thank you so much to the staff for the service.

Hygiene : cleanliness really poor •Table dirty and sticky •Salt & Pepper pot food residue • Drinking glasses were cloudy and appeared rinsed not washed •Food was quantity focussed and not quality at all. Really disappointing £55 spent on bland food over priced for the flavours and quality of the ingredients (Meat) Was drawn in by the volume of people in the restaurant so thought we’d give it a go. Would return for bar drinks only* Would not recommend to family or friends. Harvester at best!!

Absolutely amazing food and ambience. Sea bass and Thai curry is out of this world and great value for money - I highly recommend this restaurant. It’s a gem in Leigh on sea

Love this place!! The food never disappoints and neither do the portion sizes!! Yes, it's a little pricier than I would normally like to pay, but it's worth it! The staff are friendly and attentive, even when it's busy! And there is always a good atmosphere here! I had dinner with my friend on a Saturday, the table was booked for 7pm and the place was buzzing! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to go somewhere a little special, or for a date night or even just for the reassurance of knowing you're going to get a good meal! I have previously had the calamari there, but on my most recent visit, I had the catsu chicken curry! The total price spent per person included 2 cocktails, at £11 each.

Nice place, short tempered staff as clearly short staffed, slow service, overcooked and overpriced food. Pretzel burger bun really not nice at all, meat looked like it had been cooked for a week. Very underwhelming.

Most definitely style over substance! Had a breakfast here, and parts were good and others terrible. It was the most expensive full English I've encountered for a start. Cheap white bread for toast, thimble of beans and they don't want you to substitute anything on the menu! The waiting staff didn't wanna be there, one of them was downright rude, no pleasantries or anything, and then mumbled under her breath when we left, mainly because she had to wipe up some crumbs my young son left on the table. Awful

Went here for lunch before Christmas. The atmosphere and feel for the place is very cosy, but the food I ordered (southern fried goujon wrap) was severely underwhelming (although my friends got fish which was delicious). The staff seemed unbothered and more wanting to get you in and out as soon as possible as oppose to feeling welcoming and comforting. The price of the food with the service / quality I was met with doesn't make me feel like going back here anytime soon.

Excellent choice of drinks to choose from. Lots of local made drinks too. Highly recommend.

Popular foodie and drinking hole on the Broadway. Good range on the menu, but all quite conventional and well presented. Very popular.

We had our Christmas party dinner here, 21 of us. No one had any complaints about the food or drinks. The waiter and waitresses were fantastic and very cheerful and helpful, nothing was too much. Food portions were large, so go there hungry! We had a variety of starters and mains and they were all really nice. It’s my first time there, but I would go again. Thanks for a great night

I would give the service a 0 if I could. The staff genuinely don’t want to be there, which ruins the whole atmosphere in a once vibey place. After giving the estaury a few more chances due to the food being good, I’ve come to the conclusion I won’t ever return again. If you don’t want to work there let someone else boost this business back to where it belongs.

Popped in without a booking on a Friday evening. Was lucky enough to get a seat outside. My friend and I shared some plates which were lovely and a great size for sharing. The service wasn't swift but it was a Friday night, the wine was nice, and the food was great. The duck and the garlic prawns are top drawer! Will go again

Very tasty food and very friendly staff

Absolutely shocking experience.. Were presented with a bill that had a £20 service charge already on it. We very politely asked the waitress to remove that as we would be paying our own tip. On doing that the waitress tutted and literally ripped the bill from our hands and stormed off. We have eaten in countless restaurants in and around the area. This was by far the rudest experience we have had from any staff member. The food.... average but nothing more.. The service.... Ryanair would be ashamed to be that bad. We won't be back !

Definitely too over priced. Service was very slow,and staff didn't seem to want to be there..There was only one member of staff who gave good service and seemed happy. We waited ages to get the bill so my wife went to get it. When my wife approached her she said what do you want? I think the staff need further training on how to deal with paying customers. Definitely off my to go list. Friends have also had similar experience.

Popped in for lunch after shopping. A nice fairly large restaurant on two levels. Shown to our table, given menus and ordered drinks. A good sized varied menu. I had a chicken stir fry and my wife had chargrilled cajun tagliatelle. Both meals were excellent. The staff were OK although it would have been nice if one of them took the time to stop and ask us if everything was all right. Toilets were very clean. We would certainly visit again.

Easy stop off, right outside, now its 2 hour parking in Leigh. No problem walking in for a table of 3. Excellent service throughout. Menu is great, something for everyone at every budget. Really good selection. Wine was delicious, glad we went large. Our food was tasty and all cooked nicely, although one of group was not fussed on her spicy rice, she found it a bit stodgy, although still flavoursome. Everything was clean and set up well, including large jug of iced water & glasses, as standard. Always a good start for me & one for brownie points . Serving team were polite, friendly & helpful and worked hard. Will definitely pop back again soon.

The Grove was filthy dirty in the restaurant proper, but not on the terrace. Although the food was good, i was shocked when a dead wasp dropped on my head from the rafters and landed in my dinner. I looked up and noticed a large spider had dropped it. When I reported this to the waiter he just said "what do you expect?" What sort of response is that! We couldn't get out of the restaurant fast enough after his rudeness. As a group we spent over £115, but we weren't even offered a complimentary coffee in compensation. We will not be going back.

Tried to eat here Tuesday, wasn’t busy but we sat and waited to be served for 15 mins, no service. Even when we got up and had to walk through the restaurant to leave no one said a word to us…

Nice business meeting over drinks

Mine and my partners favourite place to eat! Always lovely food, big portions and great atmosphere.

Normally great when I eat here, today I went with my daughter and it wasn’t great, we sat down at the table looked at the menu and was ready to order, two more tables came in and they were given menu’s the waitress went back to take drink orders from them and we were still waiting, I had to ask if we could order and the waitress just looked and rolled her eyes, eventually another waitress came took our drink and food order, when the food arrived we were asked if we would like any sauces I asked for mayo, it never arrived it felt like we were an inconvenience. A real shame

Really helpful staff and a nice venue in a great position. The cod was cooked well with a light batter. The bad news is that it cost £16.95 for cod and chips and the chips weren't even made on the premises - they were frozen. I would have expected more at this inflated price point. Not good value for money

Went in for a late lunch, wasn’t busy and had our baby twins. Not a good layout for buggy’s which is fine so stayed in the entrance bit. Had to ask for a menu as no one came, was still waiting 10 mins later, so approached bar to make my order and advised someone will come for our order. Another 10 mins passes, in this time even fed my twins their food (that’s how long) and still no one came for drinks or food so ended up walking out!! Staff were too busy cleaning tables and sitting down to bother. So can’t rate the food as no one could be bothered to serve us, but terrible experience and will certainly never return. Went just few doors along to brunch company and totally different experience as greeted and served straight away than left.

Expensive and rubbish. Had hair on my plate. 5 breakfasts only one was nice. Belgium waffles were horrible microwaved ones and avocado on sourdough was horrible. £87.50 for a breakfast that a cheap cafe could do a lot better.

I have lived and dined around Leigh for years. This was the worst service I have ever received. In Leigh or anywhere! We ordered drinks that never came. The food came but nobody checked on us, part of the food was not edible. When we told the manager her response was “it’s a bit late to tell me now” She didn’t have much to say when we responded that nobody came to check on us or even bring us the drinks we ordered. She was so short and so rude. I would rather starve then to back.

The manager of this restaurant was very rude and so unpleasant. She was one of our servers as well. Asked for ice, was told it was at the bar. Asked for extra ketchup, she never bothered to get it, ordered wine never got it. Never...

No stars for service but you have to enter something. Food was overcooked and cold, drinks came out after, after asking 3 times. No one came back and asked if we wanted more drinks or dessert. Took forever to attract attention for bill, they knocked drinks off absolutely awful 😖

Overpriced simple food. Ordered toasties and fish and chips. Fish so thin the batter was thicker than the actual fish(sent back), bland seemingly frozen chips that were soggy. Cheese and ham toasties on the thinnest bread possible at nearly £15 per sandwich. Won't be going back. So many other places to eat in Leigh with much better food.

We had a lovely meal. Such great customer service from Andrea and her colleagues. Andrea found out it was my mums birthday and we got a lovely happy birthday brownie 😋 thank you x the skewers are delicious and the portions are big ! Lovely...
