The empty dining room should have warned us 1 Then after several attempts to order an embarrassed but polite waitress informed my friends and I who regularly meet up for local lunches out, that most of the limited menu choices were not available as the chef was leaving [thankfully I suggest.}. When the tepid, insipid reheated unappetising lasagne, with a sad very wilted green salad and warm chips arrived - I could not eat it . This was far worse than any school diner. One of our party ordered pate which was obviously bought in and proved the best choice but her green salad was the same as mine. After complaint we did get a small refund. The Park historically was the place to go in Diss although it has slowly over the years lost its former reputation. Regrettably none of our group will be looking to rebook any time soon.

Paid almost £25 a head for the 3 Course Mothers Day Buffet, which proved very disappointing. It was basically the carvery that they do every weekend, with an added small gift for all mothers. I expected a bit more for the money and it was advertised as if something special. If you love meat, then I suppose it was good because of the different roast meats available, but otherwise the starter and desert offered very little that was particularly appetising, and the options of cooked vegetables were the usual you would expect with any carvery. Very little choice for vegetarians as well. Again I would assume this to be the case had it been advertised as a carvery, but otherwise expected a bit more than was offered. Appreciate that £25 may not seem excessive by todays standards, but considering the average standard of food, I thought it was. Also thought that because it was a Mothers Day event, they could have at least thrown in a free glass of wine, but only tap water, tea and coffee were included in the price. On the plus side, serving staff were really friendly and helpful.

Called in here for lunch with a friend and the food was lovely... very very tasty... the tagliatelle with butternut squash and red pepper was lovely... and the jacket potato was large ...but the first thing to hit us as soon as we walked in was the smell ....!! and it was an old person's Widley smell, if I can say that, I could smell it but my friend said she couldn't.... I then went outside to the toilets and the smell left the area but I can smell it again as soon as I walked back into the restaurant ...and I was speaking to a friend the other day and she said she smelled the same thing... which was very off-putting... and it does put me off going back unfortunately.. which is a shame because I really did enjoy the lunch

With time to kill, and in need of directions, I called in hoping to find somewhere I could get a coffee and ask a local for some advice. Not only did I find a spacious and comfortable lounge but I got very detailed directions from a staff member which were verified by another customer. Top marks! The time passes all too quickly as the lounge is a comfortable, bright and well presented area. The settees are just a little too comfortable, which made the task of continuing my journey a little less attractive. I would have loved another cappuccino had time permitted. The first one really hit the spot. It’s always nice when it is delivered to your table with the option of chocolate on top if you so wish, plus a chocolate treat to round it off. And the directions were spot on!

We stayed for a night, which included a large family evening meal for 12, ages ranging from 3 months to 82 years old. We had a lovely room at the back of the restaurant with one big table. That evening there was also a large wedding party and a large charity event in the two function rooms, not that you would have known. The service was impeccable and we were made to feel like we were the only party being served. The waiting staff couldn’t have been more attentive, we didn’t have to wait long for our three courses and what courses they were! Really tasty, well cooked and plenty of it! The quality of food was second to none, it all looked so good a few of us ending up sharing and swapping as everything tasted so good. Each course arrived practically at the same time so nobody was waiting for their food whilst others were waiting to start to eat. Plus we were ordering drinks at the same time and they also arrived promptly. Moving onto the breakfast, we asked if 2 non residents could join us and although they were fully booked this wasn’t an issue and space was made for them. The continental selection was excellent and the waitress couldn’t have been more pleasant and efficient. They were very busy but the cooked orders came out hot and were delicious. I’ve read some varying reviews on this restaurant and personally I’d thoroughly recommend it.

Went today, service was appalling, waited over ten minutes for drink . Was told twice to go get our dinner, we wanted a drink first. My son complained to be told the younger members of staff cannot bring alcohol to the table. But they can take your order for alcohol, strange. We asked 3 members of staff about our drinks and one was a middle aged lady, still no drinks. Whilst my son was complaining the tables started to be cleared of glasses, tee lights blown out and staff talking about us not eating as yet. Really felt in the way and most disappointed, we have been going to the park for many years, but what happened today was degrading on their behalf. The manaerg was very sorry with a smirk on her face. Will she take any notice I doubt it. Service was appalling.

Table booked for 1.15pm. Table not laid out. It was busy with a big party in another room. Drinks eventually arrived. Starter arrived after 30 minutes and I was asked if I wanted a knife and fork!! 2 prawn cocktails arranged on a plate. I had chicken liver pate - 2 slices shaped like cheese triangles so it looked supermarket bought. I had scampi chips and peas. Chips and peas enough for two people. 2 carveries did not look appetising. Lack of veggies, glad I did not choose it. Young waiters are not organised at all. Lady waitress came and said "check your bill when you leave". Girl gave us the bill. My brother asked for a breakdown. Good job he did, we had been charged for 3 carveries and a scampi and there was 3 of us. It was expensive too for what there was. Complete shambles in there. I shall not rush back. Young waiters need training, they had no idea what they were doing, as we had to keep chasing our order. This is a hotel!!!

Visited today for a family celebration. 9 of us, 4 generations, from 3 months to 88 years and all of us felt very welcome from the moment we arrived. Lovely big table with plenty of room to park the baby buggy. Food was really well cooked. Starters arrived quickly and beautifully presented. The carvery was amazing, the meat was cooked to perfection and the servings were generous. A large selection of veg were on offer with all the usual trimmings. Those of us that had any room left for dessert were delighted with the chocolate brownies and strawberry meringues. Coffees were lovely and hot and served with chocolates. Nothing was too much trouble and we left looking forward to another visit. Well done everyone at the Park Hotel for making our day a special one. Thank you. :-)

Was surprised to find the price £11.50 per person for the carvery as the website had led me to think it was around £8 or so. Looking around, the interior was not great so I was wondering what I was paying for, when the vast majority of carvery places charge 4-8 pounds. However, the food was really excellent. I was not in the best of mood but I had to begrudgingly admit that the beef was fantastic quality and the various trimmings were all fresh and very well made. But the plates are tiny and you are only allowed one serving, so you are forced to create a dangerous mountain of food on the plate and find your way back to your table without spilling (we were in the bar, opposite end of the building quite a long walk away!). I don't have a huge appetite but I was ravenous after finishing my plate. I found this extremely mean considering the price charged, give us a decent size plate or let us go back for veggie seconds.Needless to say we left no tip.In conclusion, very poor all round except for the food itself.

There was a huge choice of starters for this special Mothering Sunday carvery, I chose parsnip soup which was lovely but there was also a range of meats and salads and fruit. The carvery itself was great, a choice of turkey, pork or beef, and a wide range of vegetables, potatoes and sauces. The waiter who greeted us at our seats told us we were welcome to have as much as we liked and we took him to his word when it came to deserts having 3 or 4 each.
