What a great café.. Fabulous staff, great service, and the best bit was the tea! I love a good cup of tea, however, this café has raised the bar of what a good cup of tea is. The proper cup and saucer were delivered with an oversized tea bag draped over the cup side, and inside was a piping-hot, crystal clear, magical amber-coloured liquid - My Tea! You HAVE to try their tea.. I'm sure I loved their cakes too, but for three days in a row, I stopped there for tea. Nice work "The Pantry", that's how to run a business...

Grim little unswept pavement space next to filthy windowsill with bird poo and cobwebs of ages. Table sticky with spray - why is this toxic stuff still being used - a risk to children also. The older man said the table was gluey as he had to spray it. Iced latte and Americano poor quality. I would avoid the Pantry in future.

We were a party of 7 middle aged ladies just wanting a hot drink and a light snack, there were plenty of tables inside and we were happy to sit separately. We were asked abruptly to vacate the premises or take a seat outside, there was only seating available for 4 people on the outside. The male server was very rude and dismissed us. We informed him that we didn’t need to be seated together. He was still rude and insisted we take seats outside. We turned and left without argument. We assumed the premises didn’t want / need our custom!! I am unsure if he was a senior staff member, but he was very rude and had a very bad attitude towards us. we would not reccomend this place because of the poor service, we can’t comment on the food as we weren’t given the opportunity to sample any !!!!!

Only my second visit to Dorchester in ten years and you can see a change due to Covid. However, as you might expect a number of eateries/cafes are still open - but how many were welcoming? Well as it happens very few - until I discovered The Pantry. I felt very at ease even with restrictions and even though hot food had been finished for the day they said they would serve us. Simple food is sometimes the best so a jacket potato with a lovely side salad and homemade soup and a brie and cranberry toasty, was perfect!

Covid measures are hit and miss. Female staff are much better at following them than the male staff. Track and trace details are taken but weren’t previously. Details though can be overheard by other customers and are left so they can be viewed by all. Felt uncomfortable around the entrance area as too busy and too much happening here. Friendly staff. Cakes look tempting but found to be dry. Menu sadly limited due to Covid. As a result a fairly average menu so good for a quick sandwich or jacket potato.

The service was attentive whilst also letting us enjoy our lunch. The owners serving customers were friendly and polite and loved dogs and Reggie got some treats. The food and fruit juice all fresh and good quality ingredients and the milkshake was prepared not using flavourings but real ice cream which was an unexpected surprise with my dairy allergy they were accomodating and had dairy free spread and additional crisps. When I am back in the area we will certainly go back in. Reggie certainly enjoyed the fuss and attention and will be back for more treats.

There is coffee and there is coffee the coffee at the Pantry is the latter. I am of a lover of a silky smooth late with a rich coffee punch. The Pantry delivered this with aplomb. While I tend to order a large and The Pantry only offers small and regular the quality of the finished product was superb.Having arrived at 11.50 I missed the opportunity of sampling the breakfast menu, however, eggs, toast and baked beans were still on the menu. Personally I think it is quite hard to get beans wrong, so they were what I expected and the eggs were nice and soft, but the toast was the star of the show.On ordering I was offered a choice of white or granary. I chose granary and it was a great choice. I am not sure how they made something as simple as toast taste soo good, but they did.Well one The Pantry today you delivered a great meal. Thank you

We were travelling to Weymouth from Wiltshire today. Unfortunately we broke down near Dorchester. Waited nearly 2 hours for rescue and were taken to a garage in Dorchester. 2 adults and 2 children who were very grumpy as wanted to be on the beach! It was our first ever visit to Dorchester and we went into the Pantry for a drink. We both had a hot chocolate and it was delicious - also very hot, which is a change from the luke-warm stuff we are generally given. Went for a trip down to Dorchester and called in for lunch. The service was a bit disjointed, didn't have menu on arrival but got asked what food we'd like etc. Ordered an avocado mozarella salad, but it is more 4 slices of avocado on a thin bed of leaves. It was nice but for 7 odd quid I expected a bit more to be honest. The garnish on the jacket potato had more salad items than our salad main. Coffee was quite nice. Staff were friendly. Ok for one visit but wouldn't go again. Home made soup did look good but it wasn't recommended to us on arrival as it was other tables that we observed.

The Pantry is one of those places that we were aware of but never actually bothered to go in to try. Maybe it doesn't stand out due to being set back a bit or having a big issue seller outside doesn't help (I have nothing against big issue sellers by the way but or course many people do walk the other side of the street to avoid. Anyway got to try for the first time and we were very impressed.

My table also asked for a sausage rolls at £1.80. Think of a small sausage roll from Greggs. We waited a considerable time for our order, my husband suggested the tuna was being caught for the sandwich. In total we spent over £20 for 2 sandwiches, 2 sausage rolls & 4 coffees. My advice? You'd be better off at a regular bakers shop.

My pear juice was freshly pressed, not like the concentrate other places offer, and was delicious. The Americano came in a very small cup, for the price charged, and my husband was a little disappointed with his bacon roll. It cost £3.70, so he was expecting a decent size roll, but it was a tiny white roll, and definitely not worth £3.70. My toast was nothing special, though the jam was nice. I can't fault the service, but wouldn't eat here again, as I felt our food was quite overpriced for what it was. I ordered a tuna and red onion tart. it was awful. Hot in places, cold in others, watery and therefore the pastry was inevitably soggy. I very discreetly told the waitress and said I could not eat it. There was no apology, she just said 'do you want something else'. I chose something, but by then my partner had finished eating. We waited and then gave up. Went to pay and explained I would not pay for the tart. Turned out the Manager was the waitress who hadn't apologised. She agreed I shouldn't pay for the inedible food, but did not accept that she should have apologised because she would have offered me an alternative. Interesting customer service!! (Have to say that the other waiting staff were incredibly polite and clearly embarrassed by their manager's rudeness) Following a previous visit we discovered my relative had been significantly overcharged. Disappointed for 2 reasons. We felt this cafe served minimal food for slightly expensive prices and therefore their profit margins were too great. Eg. I had a salad with mozzarella and cherry tomatoes on rocket leaf type salad. They were the really tiny cherry tomatoes and the mozerella balls were the same size. I had a grand total of 6 (half) tomatoes and 6 mozerella mini balls. £7 ??!2nd reason was that they did gluten free options (great) but for an additional charge of £1.00. This is totally uncalled for and is pure profiteering and is also penalising coeliac sufferers and those who are gluten intolerant. I have never experienced this in any other gluten free eatery. The good points about this cafe is that the staff are very nice, efficient and well presented. Unfortunately we were still hungry and went for some cake elsewhere. Please visit the Black Swan in Swanage for comparison if you're gluten free

A nicely decorated café, clean and with a cheery service. The café was very busy and would have been busier if they could find space for a group of nine. The coffee and cappuccino was very tasty and came in a mug. The cake and the portions were very tempting, maybe another time.

A warm welcome and staff kind, attentive, efficient and inviting. Nothing over the top. A high street cafe/ resteraunt with no frills. Just what we wanted on arrival in a first Dorchester visit. Perfect for a Simple lunch and delicious cup of Dorset tea. Thank you. Service, cleanliness top marks, and tries to be nothing more than it is. A perfect spot in town for a quick lunch and refreshment. We would highly recommend.

All I can say about this place is for a B.LT ( which consisted of two slipped of untoasted bread and two slices of bacon with tomato and lettuce ) and a small latte ... £9.05 , total rip off, I would never return ... Way too expensive and it's nothing special

We were visiting Dorchester and arrived at Lunch time and needed a light bite. My wife had a Smoked Salmon sandwich and I had a ham/cheese ploughman. Lovely tastes and we were served by really lovely staff.

On a wet & windy day was delighted to find the Pantry for a cup of tea & teacake. We were made to feel special despite only spending £7. The tea was on our table within minutes and piping hot and we were given top notch treatment. A friendly, warm place with good ambience & efficient service. I'd definitely commend. I'll be back.

We stopped by on a blustery day for a coffee and some lunch and were not disappointed. Lovely and clean, staff friendly and service quick and efficient. Mike had the parsnip and apple soup and I had a houmous, red pepper & salad sandwich. All very tasty and bread was lovely and fresh. We will certainly make a point of returning the next time we go to Dorchester for some shopping.

We try to support local independents when we go out for the day. This place confirms why we do this, the staff were very friendly, we had to go up stairs as full downstairs. The soup was warming and delicious. The menu catered for gluten free diets very well, the majority if not all the food was homemake. Well worth a visit.

This is just the sort of place Dorchester needs - no wonder it's so popular. We had to go upstairs today as the main part of the cafe was completely full, and a very pleasant and helpful waitress even came at once to offer to put more heating on for us. The coffee was served promptly in large cups, with a choice of hot or cold milk - all for only £2 a cup. It's also the sort of cafe that I'm happy to go into on my own - you aren't hassled or made to feel a bit uncomfortable, or 'encouraged' to drink up, as in some places (Taste, take note). Warmly recommended.

We stopped here for a light lunch. The cafe is clean and bright, the tables are not to close together. There are two floors, the upper floor having a comfy sofa to relax on. The staff are very friendly and the service is quick. The home made gluten free bread is the best if ever tasted.

Stop here often with an elderly gentleman. Sometimes they are really busy so you have to wait a bit but we don't mind as long as we get served. Food is always nice with a nice pot of tea

The food is delicious. It's homemade and packed with flavour. I cannot fault the food at all. I was spending a couple of weeks in Dorchester and I was delighted to find this café. As well as being efficient, the staff (for the most part) were friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I liked the food and the atmosphere of the cafe so much that I had to go back again during my stay in Dorchester. On my second visit one staff member was a bit grumpy but that wouldn't put me off from going again because everyone else made up for it with their attention to detail, warm welcome, friendly service and above all..... the food.

What a brilliant find! The lovely, friendly atmosphere is the first thing you notice. The local art work on sale is a great touch. As a vegan, there was a nice selection to choose from and nothing was too much trouble. The service was outstanding. Truly. It's warm, clean, friendly, delicious and reasonably priced. Perfect really!
