A lovely afternoon escaping the drizzle. Warm inviting atmosphere. Adults can sit and have a coffee with the safety that the kids can't escape the play zone. Plenty for our 2 and 4yr old to get involved with. A wide variety of the menu for both food and drink. Pay and display car park on the doorstep. Will be back again the next time we're down.

Awful experience, went for the Mermaid experience, wasn't organised at all, left in the end before Grandchildren could do any of the activities. Had hot drinks and Brekfast sandwiches, not at all nice and in my opinion well overpriced. Sadly we won't be returning.

Lovely spot to go to with young children if the weather isn’t great. Play area/toys could do with a little updating but we didn’t mind and our son loved it. Food was good too. Such a convenient place where parents can sit and relax whilst the children play.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We visited today with our 2 young children. The 'soft play' area is a fenced off carpeted area with a few totally filthy sofas and some toys- almost all of which are broken, missing pieces, ran out of battery, etc. Some complete puzzles are nailed to the wall, but confusingly so high up to be out of most childrens reach. Lots and lots of clearly 2nd/3rd/4th hand/ fit for the dump plastic slides, pushalongs etc, plus a small wooden playhouse with badly splintered wood and clearly visible screws. The slide on it had a large and sharp crack in the side. Needless to say we didnt stay very long. I did purchase a small item for my daughter and while waiting in the queue I heard the woman taking the order be INCREDIBLY rude to the ladies she was serving. They asked, very politely and reasonably, if a dish could be altered slightly and was told 'No. Im the cook and no way.' They then asked for an Oasis drink. She said 'Well yeah you can get that yourself cause like I'm pregnant! Now is that it?'. I personally worked a very physically demanding job until well into my 3rd trimester- with both children, as was my choice. If the woman serving felt that walking 8 steps to her right and opening a fridge to lift a small bottle from an elbow height shelf was physically beyond her then perhaps she needs to consider whether shes fit to be at work at all. If I'd been spoken to that I would have cancelled the entire order (of considerable size, at over £40) and just left. Pregnant or not, there was no excuse for being that rude. Be warned, this isnt soft play- its like a graveyard for rejected, old, sad and broken toys, and its filthy. Some of the items inside looked like they hadnt even had a cursory wipe in at least 6 months! Both children will no doubt both have colds in a few days time. Avoid!

We eat here regularly. Particularly the cookie dough 🧇 waffles are amazing and very reasonably priced. The regular food is delicious too, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming and the staff are lovely. During lockdown have been using the take away service - as can’t go a week without some of their waffles 😜

I used to go to the Palm House with my 2 Yr old once or twice most weeks prior to lockdown, and we can't wait for it to reopen. In one wing you'll find the best play cafe in the local area (in my opinion). It's laid out in such a way that you can keep an eye on your kids from the comfort of your table or couch, rather than having to chase them around, meaning you can drink your deluxe campfire hot chocolate (with actual toasted marshmallows) in relative peace before it gets cold! The central wing of the building is just a normal cafe, so you don't have to have children to enjoy the palm house. You are still within earshot of the play area though, so it's not the quietest place. There is also a private function room available for parties, etc. and local groups and events are regularly hosted here, such as the recently launched "Young at Heart" events where senior citizens and children can meet, play and share each others wisdom. Food-wise, they serve everything you would expect from a cafe (hot drinks, cakes, sandwiches, etc.) plus a menu of reasonably priced pancakes and waffles with a delicious variety of toppings to choose from. These can take a while to be cooked during busier times, as they only have a couple of grills so can only make so many at a time, but for a small local business what more would you expect? Pro tip: if you are planning to order pancakes or waffles, let them know as soon as you come in, as the grills take a while to heat up.

Situated more or less by Radipole Lake and alongside Melcombe Regis car park this cafe is in the old Council greenhouse. There is a small menu with hot and cold drinks and a large play area for the kiddies to run riot. Don't expect a quiet drink in here as most of the kids are under seven and all seem to be fitted with sirens which go off regularly as they hare past you. Nevertheless the coffee's very welcome on a cold day. The staff are all polite and pleasant and although you order at the counter they will bring your order to your table. Despite the large quantity of kids the place is very clean with several tables for the adults and a few large comfortable sofas.

We decided to try the palm house as somewhere different. We went around 945/10 ish. It was next to empty with only one other table of three. We waited for nearly an hour for our food. We ordered nothing spectacular. Just small breakfasts and an omelette and there where only 5 of us. When it came out there was no apology or recognition of how long it took. It was also way overpriced for what you actually got. The toast was cold and looked nothing more than Asda smart price for £1.60. I don’t mind paying those prices if what you get is quality and worth it. I think it’s just a place to go if you’ve got small kids as it looked like it had a good area set aside for them. But for a group of friends (no kids) doing breakfast it’s not a place we’ll be returning to.

The pictures are certainly not recent entrance is unkempt with very tired looking furniture. We only wanted a coffee and were waiting over 30minutes and then we had to ask,we also ordered a pancake for our Grandson which he hardly ate and a guy on another table had also ordered pancakes for his kids witch they did not eat and he complained and was given his money back, perhaps we should have done the same. The tables were not cleaned and cleared and the toilets, well you would have to be desperate. The staff appeared to be very young and inexperienced, which is a shame because it appears to be aimed at families with young kids, but whoever owns the place really needs to sort their staff out.

We have visited the Palm House on several occasions and the wait we wait for our food every time is appalling! When the food arrives we send it back because the toasties aren’t toasted, panini has hardly any Brie. In the end we ask for our money back. The palm house is massively over price, especially for the quality! It’s a shame as the play area is great for little ones. Only come here for coffee in future, the food is not worth the wait and price!

it is one of those things...damp windy autumn afternoon and you have done some jobs in town still not feeling the urge of going home. little tiny miss hunger is gently knocking ...u know where...should it be another sandwich or wrap or jacket p. or a mince pie??? all sounds tempting. but today it all does not seem to be that appealing. soup! h o t soup! the idea strikes my mind suddenly. oh what a relief! in a caf in town by 2 pm soups are sold out. what a shame. indeed. a restaurant on the corner at the front is shut on mondays. but we do not feel at a loss cos there is one lovely quiet always welcoming very special to both of us place in weymouth. that is o u r Palm house. home-made food, own creations served with love. great food wide range of dishes astonishingly g o o d value. and a points' card is a bonus. get a stamp each time you order a hot drink and you will be rewarded with a free one as time gies by. there is a cosy safe separated from the rest of the restaurant playing area for kids and parents/ grandp. are allowed to be there too. on warm days one can sit outside enjoying fodd or drinks. don*t be mad at me, i am european...austrian married in the uk...and i like my ciagarette with a double espresso!!!! you can have your fag outside as well. plenty of ashtrays! it is a feature to my mind....all thus is possible due to the architectural solution of the palm house: all split in differant areas...no one is in the way feeling disturbed or disturbing you. go and find out. enjoy!!!

My family and I recently stayed in Weymouth to visit family. We went for a large family meal at the Gurkha which is opposite this establishment on a Saturday. As my grandmother in law frequents the palm house often she suggested we then popped in for after lunch coffees as there was also somewhere for our toddler son to play with his two cousins. We stayed for over an hour in comfort in the big sofas having a great catch up as a family whilst the children had great fun playing together. Really enjoyable afternoon.

THE Edwardians knew a thing or two about building and you only have to walk into The Palm House, a former glasshouse, to be impressed by the building. It was used for a variety of purposes including a nursery but slowly declined until the present tenants took it on and transformed it into a popular cafe and a sort of community meeting place for everything from artists to post-natal groups. The site also has disabled access.Entry is gained via the Swannery pay and display car park on the edge of Radipole Lake which is itself well worth an enjoyable walk round the RSPB reserve there. The walkway to the front door goes past a small children's play area and various seating areas both at tables and in little wooden alcoves.Once inside the Palm House the atmosphere immediately makes an impression with a soaring glass panel roof. It can be hot inside so sail-like squares of cloth are suspended to provide customers with shade. There are a variety of tables with wood chairs all surrounded by shelves for art work and crafts while in the far corner are several large leather sofas and low tables for people to sink into and relax.Half way between the two areas is the Blooming Kids! under-fives play activities area since this is a cafe which is very family friendly. There is even a baby meal section on the menu, not something you see in every cafe you go into, while 25 pence of each meal bought is donated to the Special Care Baby Unit at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester. A meal example is chicken and apricot puree, not to my taste perhaps but babies seem to like it! There is also a children's menu from £3.50-£3.75.Once you've settled you can order a pot of tea for just £1.45 or a large coffee for £2.30. I opted for a large coffee which was very good.Meals are also available from £6.95-£7.95 including sausages, lasagne and chilli con carne, ploughmans and several vegetarian dishes as well as a range of breakfasts.I think it is the atmosphere of the place which makes it so attractive for me because there are no low ceilings for that slightly enclosed feeling and the large overhead space encourages people to relax and look around which is half the battle when you're tired and want a break.Add to that views of the nearby lake and trees and the Palm House is definitely worth a visit.
