Caviar Plaice in Weymouth and Portland

Fish Friday…. Had a fantastic F&C from Caviar Plaice. Any reviews before September forget. Under new management and so much improved. Large portions and very reasonably priced. One large fish and standard chips was enough for two. Forget the bread and butter… Highly recommend.

AVOID Visited at 5pm tea time. Not busy and not a lot of food in top of frier being kept warm. Ordered Fish, chips and Chicken and Mushroom pies. The fish was over cooked and had a long rubbery bit through the middle. The chip's were cooked ok but it all had a burnt taste, there were also burnt chips with very burnt batters and bits of chips. The pies were warm but the pastry was like cardboard. Needless to say it all went in the bin.

We had Fish and chips delived for are tea this some of the best fish and chips we have ever had and it's very good value for money will be using again and again 10 out of 10.

The fish was nice, but unfortunately the chips were hard and inedible. They tasted as if they were really old or re-cooked. Such ashame as we usually use this chip shop.

AVOID Rubber fish, burnt taste to both fish and chips. Pastry on Chicken and Mushroom pies was rock hard. Obviously cooking in old oil. All inedible went in the bin.

Delivery was quick and food was delicious. Will definitely order again from them.

On holiday and fancied a fish and chip supper, fish was cooked perfectly and the chip were also very good, curry sauce a little bit on the thick side but tasted OK.

WHY IS IT CASH ONLY FOR WALK IN CUSTOMERS?! Ridiculous in this day and age.. particularly for a take-away. The food is very nice however.

As a family we rarely eat takeaways as we’re good cooks. The exception is fish and chips as I don’t want my house to smell of it. My go to is Caviar Plaice, cooked fresh every time. Fair pricing. Never order a portion of chips each. Always so happy at this occasional treat.

The battered jumbo and chips were dire, the worst I’ve had in years. I can only think the oil must have needed changing. Food was cooked by 2 kids who obviously had no experience. Never will I return and I certainly will not be recommending them. Avoid at all costs.

Can't usually fault anything from here . Unfortunately tonight, the batter was so thick and unpalatable. Such a shame. The fish inside was gorgeous, chips really nice. Just a shame about the batter.

Sorry but if you accept my order and payment then delivery is expected not cancelled with the excuse it was out of area. Maybe change your app, if that's the case, so it doesn't accept n order which is 'out of your delivery area'! I was looking forward to the food after reading reviews and even included a good tip. Sort it!

First time using this chip shop , ordered through here then realised I had forgotten an item , called shop & payed cash on delivery. Decent size cod for a medium perfectly cooked & the chicken was lovely . Enough chips in a large for 4 of us. Will definitely use these again

Great food beautiful fish delivery was 1-1.5 hrs so rang and collected in 20 mins but still got charged delivery charge sadly

Sausage was split and hard, chips tasted re-heated and a minisclule piece of dried up Haddock. Normally food is excellent, sadly dissaointed this time. Sorry

Amazing taste and portion size

A perfect cod & chips + curry sauce for two tonight...EXCELLENT.....Tardis for that ! ( Don't blame me for that joke...You started it ) ! Aaaaah....Movie night....let's have a little look...... AHA ! Mmmmm... We're sat back all comfy now...belts and waistbands undone...watching telly. That was alot of food to get through.. but too moorish to leave any... A bit sleepy now...might have to pause the movie....I always miss the ending. I like movies..I watch alot of them...well....the first half. Night night. x.

Has become our go to place for fish & chips, the food is reasonably priced and quality is good as well. The only caveats are that the shop is cash only. (there is a cash machine in the shop next door but still a minor faff) and the times we have ordered online for delivery it has taken well over the estimated time and more often than not we have had to ring the place to check they haven't lost our order. Normally the reasons given for the delay are pretty weak but I have to say this is the only downside of the place. Service in the store itself is good and wait times aren't too bad. The take-away for this review is you'll be better off going to get your food, just make sure you have cash or get it out on the way!

We were told of the delay but that's not helpful when you have very hungry children. Overall the food was great!

Several items appeared to have been reheated several times. Mushy peas looked like moss, batter fell off the sausage. They had run out of cheese. Staff very polite but won't order again. Gravy was amazing. That's what the star is for.

I pre ordered my fish n chips as I know they cook fresh. Young person on the phone was polite but didn't get my name. Went to collect young person wasn't rude but not overly friendly and no smile. Fish was amazing as usual 😋 but chips weren't upto usual standard. Maybe the potatoes aren't great at the moment?

Food wasn't the best cheesy chips were just full off grease and were soggy, cod roe tastes good but again was super greasy ,might try again.

Food took an hour to arrive and the chips were cold. Decent sized portions for the money though.

All 8 of us thoroughly enjoyed it! Huge pieces of cod, loads of chips. Kids loved the large sausages and the scamp was delicious. Mushy peas n mushrooms too. Could not fault any of it!! 😀😀⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food not cooked correctly. Chips weren't that hot and one of the two pies was stone cold in the middle. The pastry top of both pies was rock hard when it should be light and fluffy and soft to bite in to. Not sure how they cook the pies but nowhere near as good as other chip shops. This isn't the first time I've had pies like this from Caviar Plaice but thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and try again... Sad to say this but I will go elsewhere from now on :( The girl serving me was very pleasant though.

Only have home deliveries and it's a very efficient service.

2 hours waiting for cold food to be delivered by an uninterested and uncaring driver with an annoyingly loud little boy racer car. Called the restaurant and a young boy answered. This place is not being run properly and they can never stick to delivery windows, it's always late but I never usually complain. But on this occasion the food was so late and my son needed to go to bed so I called the restaurant and they said the driver was 2 mins away. It still took another 15 minutes. I ordered at 7pm and wasn't eating until 8.55pm. If you can't handle being busy, why would you not increase the delivery time prediction instead of ALWAYS being late? Also, they insist on using their own drivers so there's no GPS or tracking of any sort, so you're in the dark until they decide to deliver. Just a really poor experience last night and sadly I will no longer be recommending or ordering from this restaurant.

Food was cold and over 45 minutes late, delivery was booked for 45-1 hour after ordering, this is the second time with late and cold delivery so never again, what a shame as it was so good years ago

Excellent fish and chips at a good price. Not greasy, great chips and lovely fresh fish in a light crisp batter. Great friendly staff too. A bonus is the ample easy, free parking.

Food good but delivery was late

Popped in here on my way home, it is not my usual chippy. On arrival I was informed they only take cash, which is strange in this day and age. I cheerfully found the right money and happily waited around 3 mins for a large portion of chips. I was looking at my phone when the young lady hollered 'large chips!!'. Because I did not leap to my feet immediatey, around a second later she shouted even louder and rather aggressively 'LARGE CHIPS!!!' Strange as I was the only person in there, a friendly 'here are your chips' would have been fine. Anyway, I shall go back to using my usual friendly place, up the road, with no shouting and bigger portions. The chips were ok though.

Everything was all perfect from food to delivery and then I put my foot in it with the poor delivery person. I'd like to be able to apologise to her face to face or by phone, you have my number to give them if need be. I will wear a paper bag with holes cut out next week.

O.K.....It's like this....One of you is going to have to marry me...! Of all the reasons to hitch up with someone...great food is right up there. So.....Who's it going to be...?

Three of us had fish 'n chips...ALL of us said " That's the BEST fish 'n chips I've ever had ". I don't know how you do it..but, I'm SO glad that you do.

Food is excellent and portions are excellent, never had a problem with the staff and the food is always delivered with a smile from the delivery person who is always polite and welcoming.
