Turned up on a Saturday afternoon without booking and we were lucky they had one table available. The service was outstanding, staff were friendly and helpful. They can do gluten free options on their whole main menu (save for scampi and pasta dishes) which made my coeliac daughter extremely happy because she could have the calamari! The wait for our food was quicker than we expected. The food was freshly cooked and was served piping hot. The Cove House beefburger was so delicious and a steal at just £13.50 (included chips), probably one of the best burgers I've eaten! Would highly recommend this place especially for gluten free offerings!

I was very impressed by the quality of the food in this friendly and cosy pub overlooking the sea. We had whitebait to start, not a big portion but very fresh. For main course I had the local lemon sole, which was lovely. A good sized portion of fish, prawns and mussels in a creamy sauce. Very reasonably priced too. Only missed the full 5 stars as it was a little cold inside, and a bit too noisy at times. Otherwise an excellent pub and meal.

This pub has a special place in my heart, due to family living on Portland. Over the years it has changed hands but it’s always been great. I went there this evening and they’ve got a new, great selection of beer on tap, fantastic service and, of course, the ability to watch the sunset over the sea with a pint in hand. It’s like no other pub!

Best sea view in Dorset. Helpful, local staff and welcoming layout both inside and out. Wooden interiors with historic pictures decorating the walls and a view of Chesil Beach and West Weares from the esplanade. Nice array of draught beers and alcohol free purchases too. Disappointing. I called to book and all was fine for a table of 2, until I mentioned we had a dog with us. Audible impatient sigh greeted that! I had checked and on the website they say how dog friendly they are… arrived, nice table but the next 15 minutes is dominated by head of service loudly dealing with a larger table, quite unnecessary rude to them which we found embarrassing. It was cold, we were hoping for the fire coziness that the website advertised. The young waitresses were lovely, wine was good quality but then it became a bit odd because I asked if I could pay for a kids sausage dinner and just have the sausage for the dog…. Was told that ‘the chef does not cook for dogs’!! Wow. So we expected a first class set of food from a first class chef. The mackerel pate was not balanced in flavours, too much reliance on salt- needed black pepper and more lemon. Probably some fresh parsley too. The crab linguine was very bland, strangely garnished with a single piece of bread? The moules were nice and fresh but the sauce was definitely not a classic! Again flavours not quite right. Best positioned pub ever but the arrogance is quite sad!

My family and I visited the Cove House Inn a total of 4 times on a week's getaway in Portland, twice to eat and twice to just sit and have a drink outside the pub and enjoy the views. The Cove House is very charming, relaxed and welcoming and the food is really fantastic, Sunday roast was a particular highlight but my crab linguine was amazing also, the rest of my family's food was given a big thumbs up as well. We booked a table in advance both times we ate and would not have got in otherwise so that's worth considering to avoid disappointment....if I had one criticism it would be the cost of desert seems a little high, don't get me wrong, it was lovely, but I would think slightly cheaper would have just about made it perfect. We will not hesitate to come back again when we are in the area and having it as a local really helped make our stay in Portland memorable.

I was in Portland at the weekend to visit family & we visited The Cove House Inn for our evening meal on Saturday. The menu was very limited & they had a special menu chalk board on display. Two of us chose a starter of baked cheese to share. It was not spectacular at all & by lifting the it up & looking at the bottom we discovered it was President, which is the brand I would never choose in the supermarkets. For our main, I had the prawn & chorizo linguini, horrid dish as the linguini was far overcooked, prawns the same & to much chorizo that the meal was not balanced at all. My son chose the burger & commented he would have been better going to burger King, say no more. The other member of our party had the fish & chips. The bill came to a staggering £71 & the overall suggestion was never again to eat here.

They offer a Sunday Menu online, which is why we booked, only to turn up and this option not be available on Sunday. Disappointing but we would have just left with nothing else to say, if not to be met with a very sarcastic, brunette waitress who said "good luck finding one!" Didn't mind a menu change but she let's the whole pub down as we have been in for drinks on previous nights and met with good service. Customer facing roles, being in one myself, shouldn't be met with comments like that. She proceeded to follow us out and say she was "being genuine!" Unfortunately Cove Inn, this member of staff let the rest of your pleasant team down.

This used to be the best fish and chip shop in Weymouth, but now since the people next door took over from the Chinese takeaway it's now definitely the worst. They use the same batter that you'd get on chicken balls which is a bit weird on the fish and sausages. Such a shame as it was our go to place for years.
