One of the best pubs in the area now with the new management — delicious homemade food, honest and hospitable service, and a warm and cosy environment. Having lived in the area all my life and with a career in the culinary world, this is an excellent restaurant worth dining at.

the pub has reverted to its old name - the Chipperfield Boot - the new owners are very enthusiastic - the place is spotlessly clean and the food is very good - people who have made a brave move to take on a pub and put all their efforts into doing an excellent job deserve support - if you go once you will be back!

Awful Sunday lunch. Don't bother as the food is ridiculously expensive for what you get. We should have known it would be dreadful when they had availability for a table of 8 last minute and when all the other pubs in the area were fully booked! Drinks glasses were filthy. Lady serving spent most of the time in the bar chatting and drinking with her mates. We had to go into the bar area everytime we wanted a drink. Her attitude was as if we were a nusence not paying customers...by the way we were the only customers in the restaurant! Roast beef was a fatty piece of steak. Food was cold, service was slow and we only ate because we were hungry and had invested 2 hours in there! Never go there again! This could be a great place, if they had better management...and a serious clean!

If I could rate 0, I would. We booked our table, well in advance, table for 4. Was a quiet night, 2 tables of 2 and a table for 4. We ordered our drinks (half of these were wrong) and waited 50 minutes to ask if we could order our food... to then be told we would need to wait a further 20 minutes to ORDER our food. This is completely unacceptable to leave someone waiting 1 hour and 10 minutes to even order food, when they had pre booked with 3 other tables, 2 of which were already eating. We wont return.

We recently visited the paddock for the first time and were very pleased with our meal and experience! We had tapas style starters and traditional ‘pub grub’ for our mains which were very tasty. The landlady was very friendly and even gave us some cooking tips for the tapas ‘patatas Bravas’ which we will be trying out at home. Overall a lovely dining experience with tasty home cooked food - would definitely recommend and visit again soon!

Returned here yesterday for a quiet Monday evening dinner. We chose the Pork 'N' Beef Meatballs for starter to share, and we both opted for the Chicken Schnitzel which was just the best I have ever eaten. A huge, healthy portion that neither of us could finish. Very reasonable bill and will not be so long coming back again next time.

Worst roast I’ve ever had delivered. There was supposed to be 2 roast beef dinners and only one turned up with no gravy, no cauliflower cheese and no Yorkshire pudding, looking very sorry for itself. Burgers were very good and excellent 'slaw' and skin on chips. Sadly, chicken wings were not good. Battered and deep fried with unusual, unspicy sauce. Buffalo wings are very easy - baked then drizzled liberally with 'Frank's sauce'. Maybe check out the excellent wings from 'The Wing Factory' in Watford. GET wings sorted then all would be 5 star.

A few of the negative reviews should have rang alarm bells. However, we did not check TripAdviser and went off the back the pubs relentless Facebook advertising. Big Mistake - HUGE!Let's start with the pricing - 2 burgers, 2 sides and one SMALL bottle of coke = £26. Really?Social Distancing - the young chap who served us observed the rules to a tee. A grey haired lady walked into the garden and approached another table saying "should we hug? Shall we? Let's hug!" It is this ridiculous behaviour (literally day 3 since the opening of lockdown) that will put us back into lockdown. She then proceeded to hug another tables' guests (presumably regulars) and then walk off! She appeared a while later with a face mask on (bit late for the that love!)!!!Food - oh dear. Half cooked luke-warm burgers that were barely edible. The skin on chips were the saving grace. Onion wings were frozen from a bag! The chicken burger was so oily that we gave up half way through. The beef burger was semi raw and barely warm.Service - we were asked at the END of the meal if everything was okay. We gave the above feedback re food - nothing! a sorry was all we got. Why bother even asking us?!

Always a warm welcome from Nicole the owner. So lucky to have this as our local pub. I love the new tapas menu as you can have as little or as much as you want depending how hungry you are. My daughter is a vegetarian so we chose ‘from the field’ menu. But I have had the meatballs and other dishes on previous visits ... the baba ganoush is to die for and must he tried. The chef is Spanish and all the tapas dishes I’ve had are authentic and yummy. Everything arrived as it should and Nicole recommended a Sauvignon blanc to go with it. We were also bought a complimentary pot of herbal tea. For Nicole to remember we don’t drink ordinary tea was extra special service. The pub is warm and cosy especially after a cold damp walk! We always take our wellies off and pad around in thick socks. She has a couple of log burners for extra cosiness. The tables are spaced so socially distancing is easy and we felt very comfortable being there. Thank you Nicole.

Omg! We have just visited the paddock, Chipperfield. We should have walked out as soon as we got in there. The barmaid was very hostile. When asked if they did sandwiches she replied NO! We decided to go with chicken skewers and a tomato and basil salad as the other other choice was a Greek salad and I don’t like olives or feta cheese. When the food arrived, it was two skewers, one piece of chicken on one skewer and a Greek salad, I said excuse me we didn’t order the Greek salad, she replied, abruptly, yes you did, I was so shocked, how rude, I replied we didn’t, she just looked at me and insinuated that my husband had ordered it. Even though I don’t like it. I was ready to stand my ground, my husband said just leave it, we won’t ever come here again. I could not believe that she blatantly refused to replace the salad that she obviously got wrong. So I would say to anybody don’t go in there, unfriendly, overpriced, unsatisfactory standard. An overall below par snack, which including a pint of Guinness and a j20 £24!! Outrageous!!!

We arrived at 6.30pm and were one of three tables there. The food took over an hour to arrive and was not all served at the same time. What arrived was wrong including meat omelette for two vegetarians. The food which did arrive was tasty but was incorrect, not worth the wait at all. The staff were incompetent but not rude. The order wasn’t written down which I think was a big part of the problem. Even the bill took too long to arrive. We refused to pay for incorrect items and those which were still not served by 8pm. I was tempted to leave without paying after the experience. I think this is a shame as the food that was correct was nice and the staff with more training and management have potential. Sadly there is a lot of improvement needed here. A simplified menu and a basic ordering system with defined roles for staff would improve the place. 8.30 at home with a shop bought cheese supper for me. ☹️

Really disappointing. It took well over an hour for our food. We were given some food on the house as it was what was served wasn’t up to scratch. But the lady who took the order didn’t write it down, and what we did order arrived very late and was wrong. It even took about 20 mins to get the bill. The food was nice and if it wasn’t late, or if the order wasn’t wrong, i would recommend it. But sadly this place needs a lot of work on its systems you could tell things were all over the place. Apparently the chef broke his hand the night before, but in this instance they should have produced a very simple reduced menu as what they were trying to cook clearly was overwhelming for the temporary chef. A real shame.

Average tapas at high prices. Terrible service - we complained about a warm pint and were condescended to by the owner, who refused to replace it (insisting that ipa is supposed to be warm, and that if we wanted cold beer we should have ordered lager). Plates were wet and table was disgusting - could bring up dirt in the table easily. £90(for 5) reduced to £60 by eat out to help out, for an objectivly bad 50 minutes of dining.

My friend and I popped in her for a quick bite to eat between walking in the area. The pub has a large garden that is wasn't busy at all so there was plenty of tables free. We both ordered the burgers as didn't fancy the tapas. The tapas menu did look good as there was alot of choice, but we just wanted something simple. The burgers are home made and full of flavour, but the one thing that let it down was that they weren't very hot. They were cooked through to being medium but I think they probably had been left on the side for abit before being served to us. The main issue of the garden was a natural problem that wasn't a fault of the pubs, wasps swarmed our table. At one point there was 10 wasps. There seemed to be alot in a short space of time so there must be a nest near by. So becareful when sitting outside. The part that let the evening down for me was when I told the manager or bar lady about the amount of wasps she just said how this is England and wasps don't need visas to come here. Umm rude much! I was quite taken back by what she said! I am English and very aware of bees, wasps etc being a main part of rural life. I was more worried about her customers being stung, especially if someone had an allergic reaction. It was a shame as this pub could have potential to be great. I just think some customer service skills are required.

If The Paddock want to attract diners, they need to do better than this. Simply writing the order down rather than assuming you can remember it would be a start. If you get the mains order wrong, trying harder to remember the dessert order wouldn't be a bad idea either. And if you bring the wrong desserts as well, when your customers tell you what they ordered, don't say aggressively "No you didn't!". We certainly won't be going back.

A shockingly shocking experience - the server didn’t know the difference between a Diet Coke and a Coke Zero max, secondly when we asked if they did a vegetarian roast she answered “we don’t do fake meat!”. In ordering we order 2 x starters which never appeared. So having no option we had a very disappointing vegetarian pasta dish and a very average roast. Then on ordering dessert - I even repeated the order and when it arrived was wrong. I was then told that I was in fact the one in the wrong. With my entire party then having to defend our choice of dessert. All in all a very poor experience.

We were the only people in the restaurant which seemed a bit strange for a Saturday evening but nevertheless the pub was all set up for many more. The lady serving us was attentive and the fish and chips which came first was piping hot. Unfortunately the rest of our meals were served on cold plates which lead to very cool meals. The hot gravy arrived several minutes later rescued things a bit but hot plates would have meant that our meals had a chance of staying hot. The green beans were delicious and the sticky toffee pudding came with lashings of sauce.

We rang ahead to book a table for 5. We arrived on time. Not unreasonably we expected the table to be prepared and ready, not least because the restaurant had suggested the time. It wasn't. So we were parked in the bar and asked if "we want some drinks whilst we wait". The only member of staff who appeared to be serving then took one person's order and then rushed off before any of us could add to it. She returned 5 minutes later with the drink and started to take our next order. She turned to leave. I called after her, helpfully suggesting she take all of our orders in one go rather than one at a time. I haven't worked in a bar before, but have been in enough of them to know this is the normal procedure. Maybe they were pioneering some radical new technique, designed to transform the hospitality industry. She replied "no, I'm really busy right now". We were eventually seated over half an hour later. The food finally arrived a full hour after our original booking, which wasn't acceptable in any sense, but particularly as we had three hungry children with us. Some of the vegetables were cold and we only had a thimble of gravy per plate. We asked for some extra gravy, to heat up the food. A regretable decision. It was so spicy it blew our heads iff. My son said he'd tasted milder vindaloos. The food was otherwise okay. Desserts have to be an improvement we thought, so giving the restaurant the benefit of the doubt we asked to see the menu. The sticky toffee pudding is highly recommended, the waitress suggested handing them over. Just as well as it was the only thing on the menu, alongside ice cream and a cheese board. Never again.

We visited about a month ago for just a simple sandwich lunch .. it was amazing, the bread in our sandwiches was top quality, the salad was bursting with freshness, colour and flavour and the chips were totally top notch! 5* rate all the way, until yesterday :( as we liked the first visit so much, a rare day off work and lovely weather prompted us to go back. Sadly the bread was just a frozen Brakes brown loaf, crusts stale ( as brakes bread often can be) The salad was spinach leaves and something else leafy with 1 half of cherry tomato on my plate and a couple of green pepper slices .. whole thing totally drenched in oil with so many black olives that any schoolboy would have loved to put in a spud gun. The "waitress" .. I know its not table service or anything fancy but as we thanked her for bringing our napkins and cutlery, she did not speak 1 single word, just dumped the stuff on the table .. When the food arrived we had to go in search for salt and pepper and also wanted mayo, she was obliging there.. I stood and waited while she first brought the salt/pepper and then went off in search for the mayo. She returned with a capful .. "you want more?" she asks .. of course we want more, so again I wait, all the time thinking my sandwich and 100% delicious chips are getting cold. £9 for that .. was just a chicken sandwich but it was destroyed by poor service and poor ingredients. How can 2 visits be so different ? Where is the consistency and basic manners of the staff?

I have never been spoken to so rudely in my life. We booked a table for 18.00 on a Sunday and we phoned ahead as I know some places are funny with serving food on Sunday evenings. However, the booking was accepted so I assumed all was well. Unfortunately we had to move the booking back to 19.00 but again we phoned ahead and the venue agreed to the change of time. From the moment we arrived we were treated with utter contempt. We were constantly told to hurry up, told that kitchen staff had been kept late 'just for us' and generally made to feel like an inconvenience. When we even dared to mention seeing the desert menu we were rudely told no. We were not attended at any point during the night. If we needed anything we literally had to get up and find her. There were no other customers and she plainly thought we couldn't see her trying to hide from us. The ever so charming manager (I presume she was the manager, although she lacked all the most basic skills, qualities and general professionalism I would associate with a manager) made it seem like she was doing us the biggest favour of her life by even serving us. If you do not wish to serve food to customers on a Sunday night then use some common sense and DON'T ACCEPT A RESTAURANT BOOKING. One hour should make no difference. I have never met such a foul mannered server with the audacity to speak back to customers so rudely. I could not recommend avoiding this establishment strongly enough.

Me and family stopped here whilst driving home from a day out in Windsor. It was a lovely day so we sat in the outdoor picnic area (which could probably do with some TLC.) We all ordered food and drinks. The menu was ok for choice. However, service was incredibly slow. We were told someone was going to come out to take our order and after waiting around 20 mins or so it was clear nobody was going to come out. We then waited almost an hour for our food, however when the food came it was beautiful. 5/5 for food! However, the slow service and expensive menu was a let down.

We celebrated a 91st Birthday last night. There were 7 of us. We all agreed the food was lovely - but the service was poor. Our table was booked for 7 but we did not eat until 9pm ! The restaurant isn’t very big but the wait for food and in between courses was way too long. Too late to eat our main meal. The food was well made and very tasty but the overall level of service has put me off returning.

Live fairly locally, but had never heard of this place until we discovered it by accident, so thought we'd give it a try. Ordered a couple of burgers, which we specifically asked for with no bacon. We were advised of a 45 minute wait, which was not a problem for us. Burgers turned up in 30 minutes, but with bacon. Not a major problem for me, but my wife doesn't eat pork, so returned hers. To be fair the waitress serving was apologetic. We also explained that having done an add up of what we'd been charged for food and drink, we'd been overcharged by £3. Not a massive deal, but that's beside the point. The waitress said she'd investigate. Anyway, the burgers were absolutely fine. The waitress returned to collected our plates, and, without wishing to appear pushy, reminded her of the overcharging issue. Again, she said she'd investigate. 45 minutes later, no sign of her, so I went to get one last drink, and explained the situation to what I assume was the manageress/landlady. I wouldn't say she was outright rude, but she had a rather unorthodox approach to customer relations, explaining that it was a service charge in a somewhat curt and abrupt manner and that it was clearly stated on the menu. Not everybody reads the small print on menus, so if it was clearly stated, it was clearly stated in very small print. A shame, because it's in a nice location, and the food we had was good. However the drinks are expensive, and the landlady's attitude means it's highly unlikely we'll be returning.

We are local and met other local friends there. We had booked. We waited one hour twenty minutes for our food in total. One girl only seemed to be serving . We asked a couple of times for our food to be chased up. Eventually the managreress came full of apology but it was due to a computer problem!. If I understood her correctly the paper with our order on it got stuck in the till. Even after being told it would be ten minutes coming it was actually twenty. We would have walked but being a Sunday we were not sure of picking up anything elsewhere very quickly. I admit we were offered free deserts but frankly we all needed to get home by this time so we did not have to pay for the food. However this was really a very bad experience and we will not be going there again or recommending, sorry.

We popped in The Paddock with a group of friends, and hit by the lovely pub atmosphere. Unfortunately only one person serving, who was lovely, but rushed off her feet, so a bit slow.

Popped into this pretty pub on a sunny Saturday afternoon for lunch with my daughter and really glad we did! Sat on a table outside the front looking at the beautiful flower beds (10 out of 10 for that effort) and enjoyed a lovely cold bottle of Pinot Grigio. Food arrived very swiftly and was delicious. Best burger my daughter had ever had she said (and she’s had plenty!) and my fish + chips was superb. Bravo !

Meeting with friends for a convivial lunch, The Paddock is easy to book in advance, although you could just turn up as we had no trouble finding a table at this pub which used to be called The Boot. They have ample parking out back and a child friendly garden area with seating, so you can eat and drink there as well as inside. The service is ok and the food was ok, with longer than waits in between courses, not ideal if you are in a hurry. A good looking pub from the outside well presented and great to go to on a sunny day, but maybe not my ideal for a sit down meal.

Much better quality food than anywhere around, a party of 9 of us had a great al fresco dining experience in the newly landscaped garden. I'd rather pay a little extra for quality rather than suffer the poor food and service in the nearby Two Brewers. Try it!

Very disappointed with the service here, no last orders bell, then told to get out the pub because they've decided to close and don't want to be there anymore because they're working again in the morning. Also there are no glasses after 11pm, just plastic cups.

Had breakfast at Black Goo and despite arriving when they had just opened, they were only just able to give us a table as everyone else had booked. So prebook before you climb the 4 flights of stairs to reach this cafe. The bubble and squeak was interesting as it included carrots, cauliflower as well as cabbage. But it was an excellent breakfast and the servings are big. Saturday is definitely not a day to go there for a quiet cuppa as it is very popular with families.
