Having stayed in this hotel we were disappointed with the room as the curtains and bedding were stained, the bathroom extremely dated and the room was very noisy. If booking and paying for breakfast on check in as they say you have book and pay in advance and they offered us full English or continental (please beware the continental breakfast only consists of cereal and toast ) The menu that is not offered to you until you get in the room does not even offer continental breakfast? So why do they promote it at reception? At breakfast we had to wait 50 minutes for the full English to arrive which was awful we were not asked what type of egg we wanted, mushrooms were over cooked, no hash browns cold tomatoes and beans was not worth the money. I wrote to the General Manager who has not had the decency to respond to me.

Stayed for one night with friends, positives, outside seating area was nice there was a singer on we enjoyed that. The food wasn’t bad but nothing special just average pub food. but it was ok. The service was good very polite and friendly staff. The rooms however, were dark and dingy the bedside table was covered in dust, someone’s cotton bud was left on our carpet and the bathroom taps were filthy there was someone’s spit and toothpaste all over them I had to clean them! The duvet was thin and mattress not overly comfy. The entrance to our room was in a separate bit outside we had to unlock a door which the lock was clearly dodgy we couldn’t get in took ages to turn the key I was locked out later on that night went out to our car after 11pm simply couldn’t get back in with the key the area was dark and no one around eventually felt quite scary, I got in but please fix it before that happens in the middle of the night! to someone else. The entrance to this area was also full of cigarette ash in the corners of the steps and the corridor to our room smelt of cigarettes clearly people smoking in their rooms. Would we stay again? Yes but would ask for a different room not a smoking room and one where you don’t get locked out in the night!

On arrival we were met by a friendly receptionist who advised us about breakfast availability and that there would be details of this in our room. We made our way to our room which was sizeable. The room appeared reasonably clean. It had good amenities such as a hairdryer, plenty of storage space and a variety of tea and coffee available. There were plenty of spaces in the car park. The bar and restaurant was lovely and we were pleased to see a variety of lagers on draft. We did not eat the food however what came out of the kitchen looked lovely and fresh. The downfall for this property was that the kettle was not clean, the glasses which were in the bathroom had lip marks and hair on them. They appeared to have not been changed. The bedding appeared dirty and the television was rather small. There were stains on the carpet. The walls for our room were so thin that we could hear the joining rooms television and conversation. This made it rather difficult to sleep. There is no wifi in the property that was made known to us or that we could connect to. Unfortunately, we feel these issues don’t match the price we paid despite the ideal location of the property. If we had to we would stay here again for convenience.

The Staff were lovely, I could not fault them, apart from when it came to sign in, it was chaotic, small entrance, with only one person on the desk, and a large number of people, plus suit cases all trying to get booked in. The rooms were clean, but soooo very, very basic. Our room was £73 for one night. I have never seen such a small tv in a hotel room(my computer has a larger screen) Plus at some time the remote control had been broken, and sticky black tape had been put across the back of it. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, it felt like sleeping on planks of wood. Décor in the bathroom and bedroom extremely tired, plus it is years since I have had such small bath towels, they were more like hand towels, and that is not because I am a large person, 5 ft 2"tall, weight 8 stone . The food was not that wonderful. A very disappointing visit. Would I stay at the Oyster Fleet again? well, I leave that for you to guess, just lets say the answer has only 2 letters, and it is not yes.

Went to the Oyster Fleet for the Annual Dr Feelgood Weekend in mid-November. There is a generous amount of free parking, a nice bar, outside decked BBQ and dining area overlooking Canvey Lake, a posh restaurant and a large function room with a stage. The rooms are basic but clean and warm with everything you need and plenty of hot water. A nice touch are the expensive Scottish Soap Company Sea Kelp products (very appropriate given location). The bar and restaurant staff were all well trained and friendly - in fact it's the staff that set this Hotel apart. A lady called Tania (and a Portuguese waiter and young waitress) looked after our table very attentively on both dining nights despite our cheeky banter. The food was really good with a generous portions and despite the size of the event you didn't have to pre-order. The full English breakfast was similarly great! Nice to stay in a good local, proudly independent Hotel with such a great Feelgood vibe! ps: for any Dr Feelgood fans there is lots to see in the area any time of year as listed below: CANVEY ISLAND Oyster Fleet - Dr Feelgood HQ with a Blue Plaque Admiral Jellicoe Pub - sadly now derelict Canvey Club - aka ALBI CLUB featured on 'Sneakin' Suspicion' cover Labworth Building & Cafe - location of few early Feelgood photos and cover of Oil City Confidential. Canvey sea wall - fantastic wall art murals (and named benches) on various local subjects including the 1953 flood and local bands including Dr Feelgood Monico Pub & Dining Rooms - Local hot spot and Shirley Brilleaux worked there Feelgood House - just around the corner from the Haystack Pub no. 40 Long Road Lobster Smack pub - classic pub by beach and next to Oil Terminal (and jetties) Canvey High Street - used for many promo pictures. EXTRAS 'The Proceeds' Leigh-on-sea - a deceptively spacious four bedroom family home once owned by Lee Brilleaux, front man of the band Dr Feelgood. Lee Brilleaux memorial bench Leigh on Sea Cliffs - walking distance from 'The Proceeds' Grand Hotel Leigh-On-Sea - Brilleaux's local and the location of his interview shown in the film Oil City Confidential. Closed plans to transform Leigh-on-Sea's Grand Hotel into flats and a restaurant. The Crooked Billet, Old Leigh - another favourite Lee Brilleaux pub The Kursaal Southend - The Kursaal is the scene of classic Dr Feelgood performance in 1975.

Family lunch for fourteen people is never an easy job!! All I can say is that this venue was superb. The staff were efficient, polite, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was of a very high standard, recommend the pork and chicken roasts. If you have younger preschoolers, pop outside and feed the fish- there are a lot of them. Our family had a great time here. All at a reasonable price.

40th Anniversary meal today, attended by 10 + a toddler. I didn't hear one complaint. Speaking for myself, it may not have been fine dining, but it was head and shoulders above "pub grub." 3 course meal at under £30 per head was well worth it. Not huge portions, but satisfying portions. I knew I'd eaten well, but not bloated lol

We recently visited the Oyster fleet for lunch. My wife visits often but it was my first opportunity. On arrival I found the atmosphere to be very relaxing. I recommend the outside decked area on a sunny day. We ordered lunch ,my other half requested the Hunter's chicken, my self, the double burger. On arrival, both meals were hot and well presented. The waiting time, not long at all. My wife's chicken was tasty and succulent. My burger was a different matter. The burger arrived and on first bite seemed fine. The bacon and cheese disguised the quality of the two patties which although being flame grilled, were hard tasteless and inside, grey. Reminded me of the quality sold at old fairgrounds years ago. The accompanying chips were light crispy and delicious.

If you wish to stay in Canvey Island the only place to stay is the Oyster Fleet. Built in a modern style with dark wood cladding, on the edge of one of the small lakes which exist as a result of early flood defences, it is lively and popular. The lighthouse restaurant is stylish and calm and the adjoining bar serves a range of food which is tasty, generous and fairly fast to arrive. The highlight is the decking with chairs and tables overlooking the end of the lake with its active fish and ducks. There are separate areas for bar and restaurant customers. The bar smelt slightly of beer on Saturday night and staff at times struggled to keep tables clear. Aside from that, a nice place to eat. The rooms which we saw were pretty well maintained and decorated in bold colours in a contemporary style. Historical pictures of the island adorn the corridors. Beds were firm and comfortable with sumptuous duvets but the pillows were too spongey for my liking. The showers worked very well. My only real complaint was that doors / walls were not completely sound-proof. Wifi is available but paid – would have preferred it to be free. The hotel has superb staff. Friendly, welcoming, efficient. Nothing was too much trouble, issues were resolved with little fuss and we felt welcome. Manager Liz was particularly good. I was told that the hotel, restaurant and bar are mostly patronised by Canvey residents, but it is a nice spot for business customers and tourists.

Wasn’t expecting much having read reviews for the pub & accomidation but was pleasantly surprised. The bar area was relatively busy but there were a few empty tables and we were easily seated. We ordered a few burgers & chips to share between us. When the food arrived the burger buns looked incredibly anemic and slightly off putting but tasted fine. The chips were chunky & good. Wouldn’t think twice, would deffinately go back for pub grub & a drink with friends.

Easy to find being set back from the main road with a spacious car park. The check in was straight forward and the reception staff were pleasant and welcoming. Our room was a short walk across a courtyard and was functional and clean which suited our purpose only staying for the one night. We ordered lunch at the pub bar and within a short while two of the best pub meals we have had arrived at our table and at a resonable price. It put some larger chain restaurants to shame. We didn't dine in the main restaurant as were out to a function that evening, but the breakfast the following morning was good and served to the table, so no queuing for a breakfast buffet other than cornflakes etc which is usual practice in many places. There is a good view across a lake from the restaurant. Overall, this was a good overnight stay and we would go back again if in that area.

We went to the Oyster Fleet restaurant just before Christmas and the place was buzzing with adult conversation as the time was about 7.30. However the whole atmosphere was ruined by a children's party, the noise was horrific. I agree that children can hold their parties in this restaurant but, surely, after 7.30 pm should be adult time. I suggested this to the manager but all I got was a frown and a shrug.

We arrived about 12.30 for a sit down meal for 1pm. The restaurant was quite busy and we were shown to our seats in the Lighthouse part of the bar. Once seated we ordered drinks which arrived very promptly. The waitress took our started order which arrived within ten minutes. I ordered the whitebait, which was very yummy. The only criticism was, not enough sauce.....My guests had soup, prawn cocktail and mushrooms. All said the starter was excellent. As this was a Sunday, it was carvery. A selection of beef, turkey, pork gammon and a good selection of vegetables was to be had. It always amazes me that the chef when carving the meats, always seems to make it that you are getting more than you think. I had the beef which was very tender, but a tade on the dry side. However, it was still delicious. All the veg was well presented with a plentiful supply of roast potatoes. Always good for me. One member of the group stated that the veg could have been a lot warmer. On the whole, a very enjoyable place to eat. This was my first time at the Oyster Fleet and I shall, no doubt be returning. The staff were all very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Cost wise was very reasonable.

The location of this restaurant afforded a pleasant view of what is essentially a swamp, but at sunset , it looked good. It stands at the end of a one-way system on canvey Island; it is an imposing building which is very attractive from the outside. I attended a private function in the spacious upstairs room with private bar attached. The service was good and so was the starter , but the meal was let down by what was presented as a Chicken Chasseur , but was , in fact an almost inedible piece of steamed chicken with an apology for a sauce - such a pity.

The tv is a postage stamp size in the top corner about 3 m away, i would challenge anyone with good eyes to be able to read the captions. The walls must be vary thin as i could hear the tv from next door and any conversation between the occupants. Once the tv was off i could hear the occupants snoring. That and the bed it was a terrible night. The hallway floor is loose, every time someone walked along the hallway there was a lot of noise. Have not stayed in rooms, so unable to comment.

Room was clean and well sized. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved that we could sit out on the terrace looking over the lake! Breakfast is not included, but is well worth paying the extra money!

We ate in the bar area, for which you just select the table you'd like then order at the bar when ready. Inside is a little dark with all the dark wood so would suggest sitting in the area overlooking the water. There are also tables outside. The food was surprisingly good. Actually the best chunky chips I've had in a long time, although, I would suggest they are not cooked in the same fat as the fish as they were a little tainted with that taste.

We went to the Oyster Fleet for a birthday celebration .The building is also a hotel ,its huge from the outside ,I cannot comment on the rooms etc as we only had dinner .The restaurant is large with plenty of space and really well presented .The outside is fabulous ,with a huge decking area with plenty of seating overlooking a lake .Our food order was taken very quickly and although it was very busy the staff did not rush us ,the waitress was very helpful pointing out various things on the menu ,we ordered Anti Pasti ,and Cajun Chicken starters whilst others had Prawn Cocktail ,Tapas.Mains Steak, Pork Medallions ,Skate Wing ,and all were served quickly and cooked to perfection ,cannot find fault with any of the evening ,the service was excellent with very happy staff made it a really good experience .Booking is a must I would not take the chance on a weekend without pre booking .Enjoy

Experienced a most enjoyable lunch with the SMBP 44 Pensioners Club today 22July.74 members and guests visited the Oysterfleet. Food and service 1st class, smiling staff which made you welcome. This is an annual event but delighted to say 50% increase in attendance. Sun was shining and the view over the lake ideal for pre lunch drinks.

We stayed the night last Thursday as we were visitng my elderly mother in the area.It was a very good place to stay - for a comfotable, quiet and easy stop-over.The room was large, clean, well stocked with soap etc, tea and coffee and a TV.This is a very basic type of hotel but has everything you need for a few nights stop over. It was very clean, smart, simple in decor and quite spacious which helped you relax, as you didn't feel, hemmed in. There was also good parking. The staff were friendly and pleasant. The bar had a good menu, plenty of different types of drink and a nice outside seating area around a lake - very pleasant.Well recommended for an easy stop-over - central, easy to get to and clean.

Beautiful new restaurant overlooking the lake. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. We requested a table that wasn't set and the staff insisted that we sat were we wanted to and set the table for us. Both the food and the service was exceptional. Starters were all fresh and tasty. Mains were Pork Medallions, Cannelloni, Skate and my Fillet Steak (medium to well), was the best I have tasted for a long time. Even if I wanted to I couldn't find fault with anything. Highly recommended.

Whilst the food is not of the best quality, it is pretty good for bar food, it is competitively priced and the portions are very generous. Staff are also extremely friendly and helpful.

Overall the stay was comfortable. The room needs updating, the shower and other facilities are old fashioned. The pub was shortstaffed at times but the food was good. We would stay again, but only just.

This was an unplanned visit but I will definitely be planning another. Visited with friends and we found our table and ordered our food accordingly. Service at the bar was very good and staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food arrived and was served with a smile. All food was hot and tasty. The portion size was good and certainly enough for the men in our group. The drinks were competitively priced as was the food. It was definitely value for money.

Food was fantastic with a nice atmosphere, don't particularly like the conservatory area as can be quite loud. The bar food and main restaurant is fine. Nice staff, clean toilets and adequate parking. Smoking area outside with heaters.

Popped in here after visiting concord beach, wasn't quite sure what to expect as it part of a small hotel. However the pub inside is good, took a table and ordered the food, often standard pub food can be disappointing but when the food arrived it was far from that all Home made meatballs and pasta along with steak and kidney pie veg and mash, excellent. All in very good and not expensive at all. I would definitely return when we are next in the area

I've been to the Oyster Fleet on several occasions apart from one visit there Christmas Day 2010, it has always been absolutely lovely, the staff are friendly and efficient, the food is lovely and Mothers Day is very busy but the staff ensured we had our food promptly and the carvery was out of this world good value for money, the only bad experience was they charged far too much on Christmas Day and wasn't prepared for how busy it was there, but other visits are faultless.

We were too late for the Sunday roast so only bar food was available. We were all surprised at the choice (9 of us) available on the menu good selection of starters and mains and very reasonable priced prosecco at £19.95 friendly manager and bar staff and our waitress was very attentive and great at her job Would like to go back for the Sunday roast so will be looking forward to that.

A good pub, restaurant with excellent outdoor area overlooking a lake . Family friendly and a place to enjoy real ales which are always available. Food and restaurant are good quality and portion size moe than sufficient. Bar meals are good and restaurant offers a carvery of a Sunday. Worth a visit and should be first choice of the venues available on Canvey Island. Staff friendly and a relaxed atmosphere .

Stayed at hotel for one night. Room was filthy, dust in the wardrobes,on nearly every counter and the guest information book looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years.Only clean part were the sheets thankfully. Didn't try the food after seeing how disgusting the room was. would hate to think what the kitchen is like. Bar staff were abrupt and ignored you at the bar. Reception was very helpful though. Wouldn't recommend.

Went here on a Saturday night expecting a pub meal burgers pies gammon etc but when explained there was a restaurant next door to the main pub was pleasantly surprised lived on Canvey many years and never knew, I digress, the decor, ambience and food is really exceptional with friendly cheerful staff. The dishes on the menu all sounded delicious , decided on either carpaccio with Parmesan or smoked salmon pate I had one my friend had the other and shared both were stunning . Venison for main and friends had turkey in a sauce and another had sea bass all were presented beautifully and tasted great. 2 courses for £18 some surcharges on pricier options steaks and fish.2 small gripes which are only minor, the mains need extras costing between £3-£5 chips onion rings veg etc and the drink prices are between £1-£2 extra per round no big deal but the bill was more than expected. A great evening . Recommend highly

Was working in the area and needed a quick bite to eat. Arrived around 6pm on a Sat evening and the place was very busy. It's a very large bar and their was a mixture of people there drinking or eating. We were in a group of 8 and found a table and choose our food, thought we would have a bit of a wait but around 10 mins from ordering the food arrived. Everyone seemed happy with what they ordered, typical pub food. My chicken and leek pie was very nice, generous portion served with chips and veg all well cooked, once finished the plates were removed quickly from the table.

Six (adults) of us went for a meal out at the lighthouse restaurant and I highly recommend it. We booked for 6.30 so the restaurant was fairly empty but we immediately felt comfortable in the contemporary setting (completely different to the traditional pub feel to the other part of the Oyster Fleet.....not that there is anything wrong with the pub part...it just depends on what sort of evening / meal out you are after!) and the staff made us feel welcome, even though we were 15 minutes late.I had mackerel pate, pork and panna cotta all delicious! The service was excellent and we will definitely be returning. Just one tiny little criticism and it is not a deal breaker.....sometimes there were not enough staff on the restaurant floor to be able to grab their attention when we were after more water or the bill etc......but as I say not a massive issue really. One of the other peple in our group said she would be recommending the restaurant for her ladies get together......the girls get together for a meal out every month or so.Give it a go, we certainly enjoyed ourselves!

I have been here before and had an OK meal but the noise level was so loud, as most people don't bother looking after therir children.I went again on Sunday as part of a group and the carvery was fine, but I had a headache from the rediculous noise level, considering we were in The Lighthouse Restaurant part it just wasn't acceptable, even if the parents can't be bothered to look after their children, you would think the staff would say something, as it is only a matter of time before a hot meal goes over a child running around shouting!!We might go again if we are guaranteed the inner part of the restaurant where there are carpets etc to absorb some of the noise, but probably we will go somewhere else.

We had eaten here before some time ago in the restaurant, and had a good meal, but this was some years ago.The first thing that was disturbing ladies restroom a leaker tap and a flooded the toilet area because children where eating in the restaurant it would be easy for them to fall and hit there head, the other thing was the lights keep flickering on and off this was a concern as well. After speaking to the manager I was a bit disappointed that she was sitting enjoying a drink in the garden??? as this is not a job for our waitress which where excellent on the night.I am afraid all she wanted to do is fill me with wine, but did in the end clear the toiletour other complaint was that my friends steak was over done, and he did ask quite a few times for his steak to be rare, and he said it looked like the steak had been microwaved, it looked more like a pork cutlet. it also took the manager 40 min to come over to our table to see my friend about his meal, of course I had finished mine by this time. not a good night at all

After reading the other reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but like a lot of things you need to try it for yourself. We turned up about 7.30 in the bar area which was very busy found a table and ordered. I have a plain eater husband and they listened and he got exactly what he ordered, I only had a chicken burger and chips BUT still tasted fresh and the chips were so hot you had to wait for them to cool down which for me is great as I can't stand luke warm food. So I would like to say well done to the staff no-one was standing around chatting, glasses were collected quickly and the plates didn't stand around for long either. Obviously I can't comment about the main restaurant but what I saw there was a lot of busy staff.
