Maison Noir in Castle Point

I’m a regular and I can emphatically say you will not get better cake anywhere. Run by two sisters , one of whom does the baking it’s a tranquil stylish cafe. Afternoon teas are to die for too. Highly recommend.

Lovely tea room with scrumptious food and cakes. Everything very nicely presented. Staff excellent too !! Looking forward to next visit. Well, third visit today and delighted to say everything was just wonderful. Wish I lived closer - I would move in 😀. Thank you ladies for another tasteful and lovely experience. Visited the area today and couldnt resist another trip to my most favourite tea room. Pleased to confirm everything was as experienced on previous visits. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment if you want quality foods and cakes to die for, all served by lovely staff this is the place to go. Absolutely marvellous. Thank you very much ladies. Looking forward to my next visit.

My daughter and I took my mum for afternoon tea and I’m so glad we chose this place … the sandwiches were so fresh and delicious and the selection of cakes was phenomenal.. all home made and fresh as u can get .. beautiful China , excellent service .. really can not fault this place .. 10/10 will definitely be back … can’t wait ..

Visited for breakfast on a Saturday morning with my lady. Many Christmas decorations greeted us dangling from the ceiling in the smartly appointed dining room. All staff we encountered were polite and offered a relaxed & warming atmosphere. Scrambled egg on toast Full English breakfast Pot of tea Mint tea Very good fare and we cleared both plates with ease, everything was cooked well & enjoyed. We also took some slices of home made cake home with us. The soft sponges and thick butter cream were divine and the host assured us their hand made nature. Ginger cake Carrot Cake Raspberry & Coconut cake

What a lovely place to eat. Super clean, friendly staff, great service and the most delicious breakfast we’ve had. As for the amazing lemon cake - simply lush! Great value for money. Will definitely be back as the lunch menu looks well worth a try!

Lovely atmosphere, quiet and comfortable. Had a chicken & stuffing sandwich with cranberry which was lovely, and the homemade coffee and walnut cake was to die for!!

I'm updating this review, which I first wrote about 4 years ago, and there's nothing to add or change because the place is consistently worthy of 5 stars...... "If I'm in the vicinity, I'll always call in here. Great food, service, and ambiance, and all reasonably priced."

The tea shop was pretty busy, and seemed chaotic at that. Has a good range of sandwiches, cakes and similar items. Enjoy my psnini but drinks were ready so much earlier. Quite good.

We recently held a family members Baby Shower at Maison Noir. The afternoon was lovely, the food was delicious - by far the best afternoon tea I have ever had. The staff are so friendly and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. We will certainly be back! Thank you for making our afternoon perfect.

We went for afternoon tea and were pleasantly met and seated. The waitress was helpful and a large pot of decent tea arrived very quickly. However, the food? Cheese and parsley scones with butter and chutney. The scones were nothing like any scones I had eaten before and the chutney was very similar to the caramelised onion chutney I have in a Tesco jar at home. Sandwiches had OK fillings and were tasty but the bread was thick and afternoon tea needs delicate, dainty sandwiches. The ones we had were more like a takeaway sandwich shop. We did not eat very many. Scones were similar to the cheese and parsley ones, not at all crumbly and light but heavy and solid. The cakes were quite good but most of the food was left. As we went we were offered the cakes we had not eaten in a box. We accepted and donated them to a church for their coffee morning the following day.

The moment you walk in the door your are greeted with a massive smile.The staff are all so friendly and helpful.I took my 2 daughters thereand wondering if it may be a little too mature a place for them but was i wrong.THEY LOVED THE PLACE !!! The cake was too die for and the milkshakes were in their words"the best they have ever tasted.Ive been in many places in that area and the sisters[ i believe ] who run it set the bar. Cant wait to revisit. Thank you very much.

Now living in Dorset, when I return to Essex to visit family I always meet up with friends at Maison Noir. This Christmas, I visited Maison Noir twice for morning coffee and cake with groups of friends. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. I'll be back next Christmas!

We've come to this place more than a handful of times, the warm welcome we have always received, had always put a smile on our face even on a rainy day like today. We have ignored the slightly over priced food because of the quality and the nice atmosphere, but today big part of the service was appalling, it seemed that it was a problem that we have asked to sit outside. The waitress was short and seemed very angry, slamming the plates and tea pots down on the table, when we were placing the order, she was cutting us off. If they didn't want us to sit outside, all they would have had to do is to tell us that is closed. Because of this, we will not be coming back.... Such a shame.

We love going to maison noir food lovely staff always nice very helpful it can be abit pricey but I like that you get lovely bone China cups in the summer you can eat in the garden it gets very busy at lunch times it's advisable to book at lunch times practically every time I'm in hadleigh I pop in there would recommend it to anyone

Excellent selection of home made cakes. 🍰☕🍰☕🍰☕🍰☕🍰☕🍰☕🍰☕🍰 My husband and I have just been into Maison Noir garden in Hadleigh enjoying our breakfast. It's classy and relaxing. Beautiful decorated and the tables are fantastic dressed up. I love it. Staffs are absolutely lovely and attentive. Spotlessly clean and tea is served in proper China cups with handles!!! The eggs and toasts were delicious, but unfortunately the bacon was very well done as we ordered. CAPPUCCINO were probably one of the most delightful we had ever tasted. They also sell cards and small ornamental signs. Definitely coming back and recommend.

I just want to write this review as I feel me and my friend weren’t spoke to in the nicest way. We went in for a coffee date and after 2 and a half years of not seeing each other as you do you get chatting, when asked what we wanted after our first hot drinks that we had ordered and drunk we both just tap water as we were pre to which the waitress replied ‘well I’m not going to be a million off of you two am I,’ and then told if we could finish up soon to which I apologised and said we would leave in 5 mins and she said it’s fine it’s just in half an hour its gets busy and we can go outside if not. To me that instantly made us feel unwelcome and it should be stated that if you aren’t going to be spending a large amount to immediately go outside and find a table because that’s the way we were made to feel. I really love normally coming in for a drink or lunch but was extremely upset as was my friend so I really don’t normally Complain but no matter how little we were still paying customers

We love coming to this place for breakfast, delicious, hot and filling. The service is always very efficient with a smile and the cakes are AMAZING such a huge selection, they look fake they are so perfect, I can assure you they are not fake, I think I have tried every one. The decor is a little dated with the shelving units around the edges of the room, I would clear them and add more space for tables, but that's only my taste others may love it. I honestly cannot recommend the food and service enough. So lucky to have this as our local.

Maison Noir was a Covid find just after the first lockdown rules eased up a bit. At the time they had spent lockdown doing up their rear garden and two years later it looks lush. I really like it. Friendly staff. Nice food and importantly, in these times of enforced Sunak Austerity, affordable. You can even get 90 minutes of free parking at LIDLs but I didn't tell you that.

Booked afternoon tea about a week ago. Asked for a table at the back as grandson was coming with us and he can sometime gets a bit excited in busy places.Told this was no problem. The five of us arrived yesterday to celebrate an early Mother's Day tea and we were suashed in a table not at the back. I said that we were told we could sit at the back but they said they needed a table for 8 at the back. We had to move our chairs several times to let other people pass by which was not comfortable and which made the experience quite stressful Food was nice but won't be going back again as this some spoilt the exerience. Second time we have had cause to write a review. Seems like they can't copy with busy times .

Terrible lunch was visiting for a birthday, on entering I asked if could bring the cake out she said no we don’t do that but could give slice of cake with candle, I said looks like I am being tight we won’t eat it here so waitress finally agreed to bring it out but very greedy saying we are a cake shop, I have never experienced this in years of going out. It was for a birthday!! Then dirty glass with lipstick served to sister and dirty fork. Then to top it off our sandwiches come Not toasted, on telling the waitress her reply was the waitress is normally very competent, she must be deaf. We found this very of putting and very rude!!

Went to Maison Noir as my birthday treat I chose a chicken red pesto and brie toasted sandwich which was served with salad and crisps, I had a latte and then the coffee and walnut cake food was all freshly made and the cake was amazing, staff were very friendly and accommodating I had happy birthday sparkles on the table.

We were passing on way home from hadleigh and thought we’d pop in for a late lunch. Good gf options and other good alternatives to suit allergens (almond milk etc.). Food was great and the service very good too! Will definitely be returning for an afternoon tea as the cakes looked sooo good! I only tried the carrot cake which was delicious, so will need to try all the others! Looking forward to our next visit!

Great little coffee shop/tea room in Hadleigh. With its ecclectic decor and excellent food, this place should be on everyones 'to do list.' Having lived in Hadleigh for years, I have been to Maison Noir on many occasions and the experience is never short of excellent. The cakes are fantastic and the service is top notch. Make sure you pop in. Edit as of 07/07/2020, post Covid hoax ridiculousness, Maison Noir has still retained much of its former charm. The dining room looks a little more sparse, due to no cutlery and finery being allowed on the tables, prior to diners arriving, but the staff are still lovely and the food is still delicious. I am deducting a star however, due to the hike in their prices. £9 for a jacket potato is well and truly taking the p***, even for Leigh

4 and a 1/2 stars really! Food was amazing , staff were really friendly and the atmosphere is really good. Only thing that slightly let it down was one of the younger staff member had a bit of an attitude and it felt as though she really didn't want to be there that day. Real shame as everything else was amazing!

Four of us went for afternoon tea, lots to eat and endless tea with great friendly service. There was no pressure to leave and ended up being there for over 3 hours. Leftovers were bagged up to take away. Will definetly be going again.

I don't know where all the marvellous reviews come from. We were shown to our table which had loads of crumbs on the table cloth and chairs had seen better days. Worn and shabby. Food was mediocre. Crisps with sandwiches tasted stale. Chicken in jacket...

Great service by Janine and all the team. Great garden area in the sun. The only downside is the cakes are too nice and too tempting.

Visited this lovely tea shop for afternoon tea today with my husband, it was absolutely wonderful. I would highly recommend this place, plenty of food (even some left to take home for the kids)and unlimited tea and coffee included in the price. I will defiantly being going back with friends very soon.

We used this venue when it first opened and staff and food where good. We now find that if you pop in without booking, you are treated 2nd class. Popped in today and waitress was unhelpful as we didn’t book in advance. Was given a dirty table, then waited 20 minutes without anyone coming to see if we wanted a drink or to take an order. Other people came in after us that had booked and were treated like royalty! Ended up just walking out. This is just an over priced Cafe, charging £4 for a large coffee. Staff are rude. Avoid at all costs.

Nice place to be, French name but i think very English. Nice for tea. Good choice. Fairly easy to find a place to park or near by car park.

Read a few reviews on the tea and decided to give it ago. Lovely venue and friendly service. We wasn’t disappointed with our afternoon tea, came out looking lovely, plenty of it and fabulous and tasty cakes. Prices were good and couldn’t complain about anything. I’d advise booking we did luckily as it was packed out.
