The Owl Hotel in East Riding of Yorkshire

We had selected The Owl as a good venue to stay and to host our celebration of our tenth wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed on any point. We arrived a couple of days early to sort things out. The check in was quick and efficient. There are stairs to negotiate with your luggage as we were in the main building. The room was spacious, airy and clean. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have had in a hotel for a very long time (we stayed a total of 5 nights so this becomes important). The food is very good and great value for money. The breakfast selection is great and the menu has a great variety. We did have the Sunday roast and this was good with a decent variety of vegetables. We had a function on the Saturday night and the staff excelled themselves. The food for the function was just what was needed and the bar was able to cater for both the drinkers and those of us who are teetotal. The staff were very responsive to any requests and went above and beyond when needed. Overall, we had a fantastic stay at the Owl and some precious memories were created at the function. If you need somewhere to stay overnight or somewhere to arrange a large event, I would happily recommend The Owl at Hambleton.

We called here today ,I ordered a mixed grill ,sold out had a steak £21 ,it was diabolical I asked for med to well ,it was tough tasteless and rare and around 6 Oz not 8 as listed ,some old watercress thrown on top of it ,greasy chips ,please don't go there save your money I came out as hungry as I went in , absolutely crap don't go there what a waste of time and £51 that was

Lovely food and very friendly staff. We both really enjoyed the food but although adequate size portion for us i did think they were reasonably small for the price We did plan on sharing the pate starter , although enough pate it came with the smallest piece of toast I have ever seen, in fairness though they did bring another piece of toast on request at no extra cost. Also note the different service charges that appear on the card machine , when paying by card. I still think it is worth a visit though as very nice setting and welcoming staff

Booked 2 nights accommodation. Room was comfortable but there was a stale smell of smoke in the bathroom. Also I thought the tea and coffee tray would have been replenished, was rather disappointed when I came back late, from a long day and it hadn't been done.

Great atmosphere here , really enjoyed it here . New to the area and made our nite magnificent , the food was lovely and the ladies behind the bar were great and welcoming .so happy moved to this area x. The pub was great and we couldn’t have chosen a better night to visit on the Quiz night, fantastic quiz one of the best we have attended . We are now deffo regular quizers

We went to celebrate a family birthday and the staff were polite and helpful making sure to tell us what was not in stock when seating us. The mains were hot and well cooked my mother had a chicken and chorizo kebab and the chicken was very flavourful and tender. I had the fried chicken burger which was beautifully cooked and tasty the mains and desserts came out in a timely manner. The melting chocolate dome was beautiful and the perfect desert after the mains. The staff were very accommodating and the food pub was very friendly and homely.

Popped in for breakfast this morning, the egg was unbelievable and the beans plentiful, thank the chef for his amazing skills!

The staff were very pleasant and service was good but we order an 8 ounce sirloin steak with was grissley and chewy not what you should get for a medium rare steak. We won't be visiting there again.

We found the on-line booking system very easy to use, and we were seated as soon as we arrived. Very efficient, and friendly, service without feeling like we were being rushed or bothered every two minutes - we’ve visited The Owl a few times and the service has always been excellent. The quality of the food was great as always, with my steak being cooked exactly as I’d ordered it - my wife is vegetarian and found that there was a good selection to choose from for starters and main. We’ll definitely be back 👍

It's not often I manage to get my whole family together in the same place, at the same time so I wanted it to be a really special night. My fiance and I had our first date at the owl christmas eve 2020, and came to the christmas spectacular for nour first year anniversary! It was such an amazing night that I decided to bring the family this year Again, it did not disappoint, everything about the evening was special, the food was lovely and my grandsons were very impressed by the gorgeous dancing girls!!. I would highly recommend this place, not just for the party nights but for any occasion! We have stayed here and the rooms are lovely, and held several parties here over the years, but even if its just popping in for an impromptu dinner, it is always spot on !!.

From the great greeting at the door to the speedy drinks service, everything was on point. Booked a table easy online, Enjoyed the sharing platter before tucking into a perfectly cooked surf and turf, had to try the melting dome, and then to finish the staff came round with some baby Guinness. The staff did not seem attentive enough even though it was not busy and the service took 2 hours. We had to ask them for desserts and they didn’t ask if we needed any drink refills even though we sat with empty glasses for about an hour. I was very disappointed in the quality and presentation of the veggie burger that I had ordered and felt it was very over priced and the chips were undercooked on 3 of the meals. All in all it was a bit of a damp squid.

Terrible place to stay if you want sleep, the night we stayed they had a lock-in after hours and had music banging until 1.30am This is not ok when they have guests of various ages staying the night! If you do decide to stay with them, ask for rooms between 8 and 23 (not attached to the main building) Also they dont turn off the carpark lights, so the rooms dont actually get dark!

Brilliant place for food. Always stop off here when passing. The staff are always welcoming and very attentive. The food is always amazing couldn't recommend more.

Had a lovely meal here with friends. Was a great place to meet as I'm from Northallerton they are from Hull. We really enjoyed the relaxed vibe we got from sitting in the area near the fire. Had some lovely food and sat for hours talking.

Cracking place for a family meal, or just a quick refreshing drink. Parking was a doddle, as they seem to have enough space for big events. Received a warm welcome from the friendly staff on arrival and enjoyed a family meal in a really relaxed atmosphere. Food all cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Will definitely be coming back when we get some sun to make the most of their beautiful beer garden.

Really friendly staff, great beers and good food. We spent a lazy Sunday afternoon out in the beer garden with the kids and dog over a few drinks and some nibbles. The bar area is dog friendly too so our pooch got plenty of attention. Highly recommended.

A fantastic spot to have a pint or two with family and friends or if you're looking for a bite to eat. Always visit with a group of mates for drinks, very well looked after. The service is always spot on and if you're looking for a place to go, visit The Owl.

Recently visited for the set lunch menu and the food was to die for, I recommend the soup for starters then the gammon Staff were fantastic as we are a bit older so helped us when ordering We ate in the front garden in the beautiful sunshine with our dog who really loved his treats and water bowl We will be back very soon and hope to try other things that sound delicious!

Came for a family meal last Sunday and everything was amazing. Roasts were cooked to perfection and my dad loved his pie! Never met friendlier staff. I highly recommend the cheesecake as it was delicious😋😋

The food here was amazing really tasty I am a caterer so I know excellent food when I see and taste it. The front of house staff were quick to serve and very welcoming. I would recommend the owl for a meal just need to try the breakfasts 😊

We eat out quite often and i don't post ,unless it is great or very poor This is the worst value for money meals. We ordered from the 2 for £15 menu as the main menu was very over priced ie. salad £12.25 then add £4for chicken,£6for rump steak etc. Our food was hot ,but that's it .We ordered the mushrooms which were ok but think they maybe frozen. It was when the main came that was a shock, it consisted of 3 small pieces of chicken,2 thin slices of chilli and spring onions that were hard to find, this came with frozen fries. My partner was going to have the 6oz steak and chips off the same 2 for £15 but there was a extra charge of £2 for the chips, which were also frozen, there was no salad garnish or anything else on the plate . It says on there website. "Legendary pub classics with a delightfully fresh modern twist" The fresh in the statement, maybe the only thing about the meals. I just wish i had taken a photo, as my friends don't believe me .

Went on a cheap meal night Tuesday and we were the only people eating in the conservatory which says it all. We used to love the Owl but since the renovations the menu is bland and boring and very limited. We have tried it four times and each time was worse than the last. Will not be going again. The meat pie was horrid thick pork pie pastry and meat and sausage inside. The chips were ok. Mine was grilled salmon potatoes and broccoli served bizarrely in a bowl.its a shame but they need a decent chef.

I recently met up with some friends at this fine establishment. It offered everything nice well run pub with friendly staff and the restaurant was clean and offered excellent food at a quality price. Most definitely be revisiting again.

Just enjoyed a two night stay here with my partner as a quick get away and lovely to see the change in atmosphere and a new manager.

I’ve stayed here a few times and it never fails to impress me. Rooms are always immaculate and the service is second to none. The staff really go above and beyond to make your stay special.

I have visited this restaurant numerous times and every time it never fails to amaze me. The staff are helpful, talkative and always smiley! They answer any questions a guest may have to ask, there is also a section where you can take your dog, with water bowls and free dog treats. The food is very reasonably priced, always tasty and fresh! The lunch menu is great for people who are passing by or for older people with a smaller appetite, although the portions are a great size on both menus, it’s a bit cheaper for those who want a light bite or those who want a three course meal for only £10! The hotel also offers lovely rooms, slightly outdated but still nice and spacious. A couple of the rooms allow dogs which is great!

We booked a table for 5 on Christmas Eve and from the moment we walked in it was a joke had to order 3 times as what we ordered was no longer available and then when food came was either over cooked or Luke warm no one came over to ask if the food was ok then when the bill arrived 7 meals was on the bill it was a good job we had checked it unbelievable

Recently visited the Owl and what a turn around food quality was right up there with the best I have had. Great value for money £6 for lunch what a bargain. Place was clean and tidy much better than previous visit would certainly recommend.

Very disappointing first visit for a long time, Steak and Ale pie very strong, pigs in blankets a joke - 3 small sausages for £4, carrot and suede mash overly buttery and chicken pate for starters was disappointing very wet and a odd taste. Roast potatoes had a very funny taste not crispy and not soft.

Met up with a couple of friends for a meal on a Sunday lunchtime. We all had the Sunday roast. My pals had the meat option and I had the vegetable roast. Mine was lovely in a creamy cheese sauce with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and various fresh vegetables. Very generous portions. We shared a vegetarian starter platter. Loved this. It consisted of flatbread, little gem lettuce, olives, hummus with pomegranate seeds, figs and halloumi. Absolutely delicious. For pudding we had the chocolate brownie with ice cream which again didn’t disappoint. They had run out of the chocolate mousse which apparently is superb. I can not fault the service either. We had coffee and 2 drinks each as well. The whole meal and drinks worked out at around £25 per head. Well worth the money for the lovely food etc. The menu had lots of nice alternatives on it which I personally prefer as opposed to the usual pub grub which is pretty monotonous with high calorific beige foods and lots of fat and pastry. Well done the Owl for providing some decent food to eat.

We used to enjoy the meat pie with nice short crust pastry now it is horrid with pork pie pastry! There used to be four different currys on the menu which have disappeared which we really enjoyed. Very limited choice now. The white wine was not really chilled, important in this hot weather. Disappointing visit We used to love coming to The Owl as we live in the village, friends used to come from York. The decor has improved but sadly the food has deteriorated. What a shame as the staff are always pleasant but the food currently leaves much to be desired

We shared our wedding anniversary with friends from far away and had a great evening, the food and the service was brilliant.

We stayed here whilst attending a friends wedding the wedding It’s self was great.top marks to the chef aswell as the food was also great the function room is a great size and was very clean the hotels rooms was very well presented although cleaned daily these was very dusty and unkept the pub itself is great with plenty of seating even a seating area for dogs these rooms was very well kept and very clean we had breakfast the following morning again the food was great the only let down would be the staff sit about near the chatting like it’s a youth club

We stayed at the Owl for two weeks wjth work. The first evening we returned to our rooms to find them all stiffilingly hot die the the fact there were safety catches on the windows. Now thats good however not in 35° heat with no fans. But that aside the rooms were generally nice clean and comfy. After the first day on site (I'm an archaeologist, I carry mud everywhere) I got in the shower and mud from my pockets fell everywhere. After feeling terrible about the fact I bad just imploded mud across the bathroom i swept it the best i could into a small pile for the cleaner. We were in the owl for 4 nights in those 4 days of cleaning not once had this small pile of mud moved despit the rooms being "cleaned" everyday. On the third day I also asked for clean towels. As I returned I foumd them dutifully folded back up.

We have been to owl hotel several times meals excellent, but this sunday , we were a bit late 4pm s, we had the sunday roast beef, beef excellent but yorkshire pudding seems lacking tastr, chef cutting down on eggs? Roast potatoes burned on top, not crunchy like we had before, brockoly and cabbage undercooked , far to crunchy, carrots were fine but needed topping, expec that s normal now . Staff were good but we were never asked if all was well. For £11 + for this roast was overpriced. Before we paid under £ 10.

If you choose the above you don't need a main course- go straight for a dessert. The sticky- toffee pudding was very pleasing.

Had an amazing dining experience at the owl tonight within the restaurant area with full table service. There was a large variety of choice in the menu and cooked to perfection. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, would recommend and go again

Went last night for a meal with my fiancé . We’re promptly seated by staff I ordered the black pudding and potato Rosti stack with blue cheese and leek sauce it was amazing only downside the richness filled me up for my other courses, we both had the lasagna for main served with ciabatta garlic bread and side salad which was very nice and filling.we also ordered side order of chips and onion rings which where also very good, for sweets we ha the ting and yang cookie and the brownie both did not disappoint, overall I will be coming back I love my food and I like chain pubs that go that extra mile to make sure your looked after I can see this place becoming a regular go to as the other food I saw getting served also looks good and I need to try them lol.
