Headlands Family Restaurant and Cafe Bar in East Riding of Yorkshire

First visit to flamborough light house and cliffs so we thought we would have some breakfast at the headlands family restaurant and cafe bar . My wife ordered the scrambled egg on toast while I ordered the headlands breakfast, at a total of £24.50 it has to be the worst breakfast I’ve ever had, the quality of the food was very cheap & basic . My breakfast had two bacon , two sausages, one egg , chips , beans and tinned tomatoes, the sausages must have been the cheapest they could find and the tinned tomatoes and the juice made all the chips soggy , the table and chairs were in poor condition with scratches and chips on the table top and the table legs had a piece of tissue folded to stop it moving . For a lovely part of the country side next to the light house I expected a lot more , needs to be revamped and better quality of food used in their meals. I certainly would not recommend this place and definitely will not be returning.

Awful attitude to people with food allergies. Accused us of being rude when they were rude. Asked for manager and it was the managers some, he admitted he wasn’t interested

I absolutely wouldn't rush back as the service was incredibly rushed and lacked a personal touch. The food quality was poor and certainly not value for money. Sadly I can't recommend this restaurant .

We decided to have lunch here as we’d walked to the lighthouse. It cost us £61 for 2 sandwiches, a kids meal, a crab salad 3 x 1/2 pint soft drinks and a tea. The salad was minimal, mainly cabbage, although the crab was nice. It was accompanied by a slice of bread spread so thinly with ?butter I’m surprised they managed it. It classes itself as a restaurant but it is just a cafe. The place was also full of flies. Granted the doors were propped open, but they could have closed the doors and had air conditioning on. We won’t be going back.

We visited Headlands for breakfast over the bank holiday weekend, a cafe/restaurant that we have visited many times and have always had a mainly good experience however on this occasion we were made to feel most unwelcome. We were a party of 6 and 2 dogs, one of which is a puppy. We located a table at the bottom of the restaurant as it is marketed as a “dog friendly” establishment, the tables outside were virtually all taken apart from a couple of the smaller tables or we would have sat outside to enjoy the view. One member of our party went to place our order, this is when the first disappointment occurred, feeling rushed by the member of staff as our order was large being asked “ do you want to order anything else as there is a queue behind you” luckily for them there was a queue, surely this should be something to be pleased about but not to the disadvantage of the person that you are currently dealing with? nevertheless order placed and paid for. Then the visit took a turn for the worse; the puppy in our party started to bark, at which point the owner came over and told us “if the dog doesn’t stop barking you will have to move outside” Our meals then arrived by a rather frosty member of staff, a smile is something I have always thought is the main attribute for a member of staff that works in any form of hospitality? Clearly something that is not a priority for the management team here. The breakfasts were all very good, one of the reasons why we have been returning customers. Both of our dogs were quiet throughout the whole of our meal. As we were getting ready to leave our excited puppy began to bark in anticipation of the lovely walk ahead at which point the owner/manager appeared looking rather unhappy, at this point I decided to give some feed back and explain how we were made to feel. He thanked me for the positive feedback regarding our meals however the conversation got rather confrontational when I explained we were made to feel uncomfortable regarding our dogs and that maybe they should review their policy of being “dog friendly” . He said that they want to accommodate for everyone and be dog friendly as long as the dogs are “well behaved and don’t bark and that our dog barked continuously” which was simply not the case, also i’m not sure of any dog breed that doesn’t bark, nor would I class barking as being not “well behaved” He initially asked us to take our dog outside if he didn’t stop barking, do the customers that sit outside not fall into the same category as customers sat inside? rather contradictory for a “dog friendly” establishment. This business has the complete majority on Flamborough head, restaurant, gift shop, ice cream kiosk, maybe they feel that they can pick and choose their customers? Needless to say we shall not return there as paying customers, maybe they should be a little more picky as to the staff that they are employing in hospitality roles too. A very disappointing start to our day, however we visited 2 other establishments that absolutely were “dog Friendly”, The Old Forge in Sewerby and The Beach Shack in Bridlington.

We spotted this restaurant after a nice walk along the cliffs, and thought a cold drink and some food would be perfect. I tried the scampi and chips which was beautiful. It came wirh a fresh salad, coleslaw, slices of buttered bread and a slice of lemon. The scampi was pretty local from whitby which is a bonus, the best scampi I've had in a long time. The service was quick, the waiter was polite and asked us if there was anything else needed, which is always nice. It was very busy on a warm day and it got a little loud so we headed outside but the views were incredible. You can watch the sea, it was so beautiful.

Vile full English, comes with chips which were rock hard and pretty much burnt. Bacon nearly raw and covered in black bits off the grill. Egg was rock hard and black underneath, only decent bit were the sausages which had a bit of flavour and didn’t just taste like grill or salt.

We've stopped here a few times over the years after a long walk to the lighthouse. The place is really nice and we really enjoyed sitting in the conservatory section with all the windows. I got a fruit scone which was really really good. Very fresh with a lovely taste, great texture and it held together well while adding the butter and jam, as well as while eating it. My wife got the warm apple pie and ice cream which was also very good. Lovely pastry, loads of tasty apple filling and it came with 3 big balls of ice cream! I also had a latte which was from an all-in-one machine, and it was very sweet. Service was very nice, and the toilets are clean. Will definitely be back for scones and cakes, but I will try to remember next time not to order the overly sweet latte.

We were staying for a week in Flamborough as a post festive break On this particular morning we chose to do a five mile round trip walk including the lighthouse Having checked that Headlands would be open we decided to have a light breakfast half way round We both went for a bacon and mushroom bap with a cup of tea The place was clean enough and there were a few customers in but not enough to say it was busy Being served was a bit confusing as the till said a different amount to the card reader so I checked my receipt carefully Found the cutlery and condiments no problem but no sauces. Had to ask for them and they turned out to be on a different table to the other condiments When food arrived I commented that I had expected a larger bun for the money. And then the bacon was pale and stringy. As said, the place was not that busy, so the chef should not have been under any pressure to rush the food out I would say you can’t go to Flamborough and not visit the “head” and lighthouse. The restaurant will always do well because of its location But I don’t think I would drive there specifically for the food Having said that we only have a bacon bap to go off and other options might have been very tasty The location is superb with views out to sea The staff were friendly and helpful

Outstanding early Christmas lunch, excellent freshly cooked food, friendly service & amazing location

Decent quality breakfast at the Headlands, and ate it all. Very nice bacon, and perfect fried egg. I have to rate it down on the fact that the breakfasts don't have other optional extras like black pudding or hash browns and all come with chips. I like me chips - not on a breakfast though. Tables weren't fully clean when we got there - nice dollop of brown sauce was left on the menu and on the table. Some staff seem less attentive than others - one particular girl seemed largely disinterested. The final point to note is a lot of people took dogs with them. I don’t mind dogs in pubs if they are quiet and well behaved, but at breakfast in more of a cafe type environment, they should be allowed only in a separate area, or not at all.

We stayed in a holiday let 100 yards from the Headlands Restaurant and Cafe Bar and popped in for lunch later one afternoon. The service was OK and food wasn't bad but its set up more like a cafeteria style operation, no table service, order drinks and food at a counter, get a ticket with your number so not my cup of tea but I understand why it is like this as they get lots of visitors to the lighthouse and bird watchers so they must have many covers to serve every day. Cost was ok, not pricy but not cheap and the gammon steak was very small. Chips were lovely.

Good spot for some quick food with a good view. Reasonably priced and the food was good just quite basic. The service was very quick - I think from the time it took from ordering the food was with us in 5 minutes. Views are great, it wasn't too busy when we went but can imagine it gets filled up quickly as seemed to be popular.

We went for lunch last Sunday. The restaurant was very busy with people queuing out of the door but we were served quickly and the haddock and chips we had was really tasty.

Lovely outlook, good reasonably priced food. Shame there isn't a "no dogs" area, not everyone wants poorly trained dogs running around while you are eating.

First rate food and good service, it's very good at what it does. I would recommend this cafe all day long. Nothing flash just good food at a good price.

Orderd eggs benidict when it arrived it was just an egg on a muffin no bacon/ham when I asked a member of staff about this the reply was that's how we've made them for ten years! Guess they've been kidding us a long time

Absolutely spot on!! Very tasty, hot and reasonably priced food. Been back multiple times during our week holiday. Flavoursome and plentiful. Stopped off here Sunday, place was full with not many staff serving and the staff what were was very miserable, when asked was anybody serving at the bar they just you’ll have to wait after along wait and Stella at £5.50 a pint we’ll not be going back. When we were sat outside the owner came out and tried to take our unfinished drinks away, when I told him we hadn’t done with them he wanted to argue with me. After looking at the food being served and the price of it I wouldn’t bother at all.
