Great stop over on way back from gig in Withernsea

Ordered sweet sour box and shredded chicken salt pepper with chips, fried rice and fried noodles. Food was freshly cooked, piping hot and very quick, tasted delicious. Definitely worth a visit for some beautiful food. I marked down one star for atmosphere as I think it would be nice to have the spare dining room as a small restaurant separate to bar area. But still really enjoyed our visit. Will be back again. 👍😁

The only place I'll go for Chinese and staff are lovely too

We paid a visit when visiting family in Hilston. We had a takeaway, we collected and had a drink whilst waiting, the staff were so nice the brought us a curry sauce to try before ordering. Lovely takeaway and still nice and hot when we got back. Would most definitely visit again, May even sit in next time.

We use hare and hounds quite often ( other places in the area do not come close) Gorgeous Chinese food. Always ready when they say it's going to be. Highly recommend.

Really nice takeaway, certainly one of the best in the area. And quite reasonable prices too. Salt and pepper chicken wings are delicious 😋 On the one occasion we ate in, the restaurant bit itself wasn't open and we were sat in the lounge but it wasn't too bad because it wasn't a really busy night. Nice clean place, good comfy tables and chairs if you're eating in - not your typical sticky table village local pub. Only issue I ever had is the last time I went for a takeaway, lass behind the counter insisted on cash payment... Card has never been a problem before. Lucky I had enough in the car. Recommended, definitely a level above many of the other local takeaways

Only serve Chinese. Lovely take away when they get the order right. Check it before you leave Could be a lovely country pub , such a shame.

Dont know what the Guy below is on about with the prices but it is not badly priced at all. Have been a couple of times now and the food gas always been brilliant. Not all frozen food either like some Chinese restaurants. The staff are really friendly and you can also get a proper pint too! #Winning! Came for the first time today. once arrived was informed it wasn’t a Chinese buffet even though was told on the phone it was! The portions was very small and the prices was the highest I’ve ever seen at a Chinese restaurant!! I work all over the country and this place has to be the most expensive.. okayish food but not worth it at all. Probably explains why we was the only table on a bank holiday.... a lot better places for a fraction of the price.

The hare & hounds is a bit different from most village pubs. There is a good choice of beers larger and cider, but sadly, no cask conditioned real ales. The L-shaped bar has bar games, a pool table, and a dart board. It's main selling point is as a Chinese restaurant. There is a separate dining room for meals. I haven't tried the food, but the restaurant menu looks very extensive and inviting. They also have a Chinese takeaway menu. There is a large car park behind the pub.

Always lovely here, the Chinese food is brilliant too, 2nd to non.. Great staff, great food, great Atmosphere. 10/10

Had the Chinese banquet and it was fantastic. Service was very good and the price we paid for the meal was worth every penny. I would certainly recommend Hare & Hounds if you are thinking of having a meal especially the all you can eat Chinese Banquet.

Not for me, maybe I wasn't there at peak time and that caught them off guard though

Thought we’d give it a go, but to be honest although the food was nice, hot and tasty, it was very expensive for what we got as the portions were small. Speaking with a local, they said that probably 9 out of 10 diners who sit down to read the menu tend to leave after seeing the restaurant prices. Most locals sat in the bar area were awaiting take out, and usually persuaded to have a drink while they wait. We ordered 3 soups, our 4 main dishes, (House Mixed S&S, Lemon Chicken, Special Fried Rice, Shredded Beef in Peking Sauce) 1 chips and 1 egg fried rice along with 4 soft drinks the bill was over £80. Looking at the Take Out price list our meal would have been about £50, so not much difference when you start to add VAT and drinks. The local did tells us that take out portions were much bigger the size given in the restaurant, which is looking dated. The music booming out was not suitable for those dining (Trance is not our thing) but it did change to 80s!) and the room was cold as the radiators were not on. We were the only ones eating in the dining area. I wouldn’t hesitate using again for Take Out but won’t be back to dine in.

Best Chinese around...well worth a visit.

Came for chinese on friday. Lady behind the bar came across quite abrupt trying to serve people drinks yet shout to me over their heads if we had booked or not (we had). Then told to go through to sit down in the restaurant and it was dead. The pub was quite busy & loud music playing over people talking. The young girl who served us was polite. Food was really nice could of been a little warmer though. Probably would give it another go.

The food here is amazing, best Chinese we have had!!!! Prawns in chill & honey are to die for. Service is great to, order food , arrive have a drink then collect food to eat at lodge......

The most expensive Chinese meal I’ve ever had! There was no ambience in the place and to cut a long story short it was a rip off!

This is the ones of the best Chinese Ive had in a while They also had a live band on tonight. Also they do take away if you phone first. Unfortunately it's collection only. While worth i lt tho.

Takeaway ok thank you Acceptable but not enough to return. The lady working the bar needs to learn some customer courtesy (and smile) and not ask for payment before dispensing the drinks. To be fair they do what they have to do but, food is much better at Royal China at Thorngumbold or Cheng and Chen at Keyingham. Maybe the Hare and Hounds should take a leaf out of their book put staff through NVQ modules in customer care.

Had a Chinese takeaway with the family. The food was absolutely delicious and piping hot. Good size portions. Really cannot fault it at all.

I had a takeaway for the first time and it was generally good. Very odd that the BBQ spare ribs were dry and not in BBQ sauce at all, not a pleasant experience. The SnS pork balls were very dry, the meat was extremely dry and almost inedible but the chips, beef in blackbean sauce and spring rolls were great. My advice to the owner would be to order at China Red in Dunswell or look at their menu because the prices are equal but the food quality is superior at China Red. There are onion rings in the mixed starter which is an odd mix of English and oriental cuisine. There's something atypical about the rice too, maybe it's not fried?? I will order from here again but I think each dish is hit and miss so I'll try several until I find which are the best quality. Very friendly staff, very prompt pick-up. Easy parking. Many thanks 👍

Our second visit this year, having thought we'd been unlucky before and seeing all the delicious looking food on Facebook we returned.... Extremely quiet for the buffet lunch last Sunday (7th) food was pretty limited for a £16 buffet. Sauces and curry had thick skin on the top, I did see the chap remove the skin off the curry at one point, guess it looked better? We adore Chinese food but found most of the dishes had a peculiar taste to them and strange texture The staff in the restaurant were lovely, couldn't have been more lovely! The same could not be said for the greeting at the bar where I was corrected when ordering a particular drink and abruptly spoken to from the onset. All in all a waste of money and it felt like low quality for the price we paid. Don't even bother looking at the deserts.

It's a bar with lots of women cackling .if you want a quiet pint and a chat then go a bit later in the evening

Went here with friends as it’s fairly local to us. Only one member of staff both serving drinks and seating people. Tables so close to each other so difficult to get in and out to the buffet. Food like warm at best and not very tasty. Reminds me of a cheap Chinese at a holiday resort. Thought we may have found a new favourite but won’t be visiting again. Lots of tutting in the room as people couldn’t get out from their tables or walk past to get to food. Maybe taking out a couple of tables would help. Not cheap either for a Sunday buffet. Such a shame.

This pub has new owners & the normal carvery is sometimes replaced by a Chinese all you can eat buffet. We visited to celebrate a birthday and we’re not disappointed at all, it was a wonderful full on Chinese experience. Hot and tasty with many, many choices all of which were mouthwatering!. So pleased we have been and tried it, it was well organised, staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. We will be back for more, thank you all.

Had a delicious meal here last night off the Chinese menu, just be prepared to wait a little as its all cooked fresh, worth it though.

Just returned from a birthday celebration of 25. All food preordered and planned a week before. On arrival asked to pay for food ahead of eating now I can see why. We arrived at 7.30 and food started to come out slowly after how ever everyone was eating their starters or mains at different times. Not all food came out together and there were long waits. Some of the party did not eat until 9.15 by which time others had finished eating up to an hour earlier. Total chaos and unorganised! The food was poor, bland and tasteless. The chicken was not fresh and used frozen chicken, sauce slimy. Some meals were left after only couple of mouthfuls. Would not recommend and definitely will not be returning. Total rip off as more expensive than typical Chinese restaurant. Save your money!! Stay at home …..

Tried eating in restaurant for an evening with friends, the food was SUPERB, to be honest the best Chinese we’ve had for years, HOWEVER I wanted to warn others about one aspect which was quite shocking and disappointing; 🤔 There are no condiments on the tables, only salt, so we asked for some vinegar (for our side order of chips) some soy sauce and hoisin which are normally standard condiments in every other Chinese restaurant, we were pretty shocked when we were charged £7.80 for condiments??? (£2.50 for vinegar!! 😳) Yes we will go again as the food was great -but we would get it as takeaway or go prepared! It would also benefit from some soft background music.

Wasn’t explained extra cost eating in restaurant for the Chinese menu. Mother got a carvery which was nearly cold. Overall service substandard by the host who came across abrupt and uninterested.

It was really cold, no heating on in the restaurant. Food was mediocre, more of a Chinese restaurant and quite expensive for the quality of food. Won't be returning I'm afraid.

Beautiful Sunday lunch, staff very helpful

Went for Chinese New year carvery on Sunday. Food was nice and tasty. unfortunately the temperature of the food was only warm. We prefer hot food to be hot. Will go again on a time when not a carvery to try it again.

For the first time ever, I booked a table for Christmas Lunch with my two adult children. The cost was £50 per person for a "Five Course Meal" which according to the menu included a cheese board each. When we arrived, at 13:00 we were seated quite quickly with a glass of fizzy wine. My son went to the bar to order a round of drinks. Our starters were served almost immediately. They were all generous portions and were extremely tasty and presented beautifully. Once we'd eaten our starters we waited to be asked to go up to the carvery as stated in the menu. After 20 minutes we asked one of the very few waiting staff if we could go to the carvery. We were told yes, and I asked if someone would be clearing our starters plates away. We were told to "just move them to the end of the table". We were lucky, as we were on a table for 4 but only needed three settings so could use that spare setting for our starter plates. We went up to the carvery and selected our meat choices. The meat and all the trimmings were beautifully cooked, however the cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets containers were empty. We were told they would be refilled straight away, so we waited at the counter. After about 5 minutes the chef brought out a container full of sprouts (these were not even empty). We asked about the cauliflower and pigs in blankets and were reassured they would be out imminently. We waited a further 10 minutes and they still did not arrive. We gave up in the end and returned to our table. The food was delicious, and well presented. But by the time we returned to our table it was actually rather cold. Luckily we didn't put our gravy on until we realised we weren't going to get any cauliflower cheese or pigs in blankets, so the gravy went some small way to hotting up our meals.. Once we had eaten our mains we waited over 30 minutes for someone to clear our plates. Our starter plates were still on our table too. After this 30 minutes we pointed out we were ready for our desserts and asked for our table to be cleared. We were assured this would happen shortly. After a further 10 minutes I cleared our plates and stacked them with our starter plates, and once again asked for our desserts. Another 6 or 7 minutes elapsed and our desserts finally arrived. The chocolate fudge cakes were freezing cold, but the plates were hot, causing the ice cream to have melted. The Christmas pudding was absolutely boiling hot and burned my mouth, and I had to actually spit it out, which was rather embarrassing. At this point someone arrived to clear the plates away. They took half of them and left half of them. While they were clearing them we asked if we could have our cheeseboards. By now it was getting very late and I had arranged to pick up a relative so we needed to be leaving. We then waited a further 15 minutes and in the end we asked if we could take the cheeseboards with us. After another 5 or 6 minutes they kindly boxed them up for us. At the time of booking and also going by the menu, we were under the impression the cheeseboards were included as one of the courses. This was not the case and I had to pay a further £15 for these. In summary, the food was lovely, apart from the desserts. The decor and ambiance were also very good. I feel I was almost conned out of having to pay for the cheeseboards, as I still have the original menu and there was no mention whatsoever of them incurring an additional cost. The service was, at best, terrible, and at worst, quite horrendous. I was only able to count a total of 2 waiting staff, plus the lady owner and chef. I really must stress that despite how very very hard the waiting staff were having to work, they were both very friendly. (even if they daren't make eye contact with any of the diners!) This service was far too understaffed and badly organised, and I feel very let down that I spent £165.00 on such a disappointing Christmas Day Lunch. Especially as money is not going very far for any of us at the moment. I understand this is this couple's first venture in the licensing trade and mistakes can and do happen. However, this was never going to be a good experience, as this wasn't just a case of something being organised poorly. This was a case of something not being organised at all.. Every single table was booked, and every single table experienced the same terrible service as we did. There was a table of 12 that were eating their main courses when we arrived, and by the time we left they still hadn't had their plates cleared, never mind their desserts served. So in summary, the best thing about the Hare & Hounds Christmas Lunch? At least I didn't have to wash the bloody pots!!

Not tried the restaurant yet but had several takeaways, all of which were great (best fried rice ever) and not bad price wise. Enjoy a pint while order is being cooked - very civilised. Custom has risen well since new ownership and the pub side of the business seems to be thriving once again. Thoroughly recommend both the food and the ales.

We had a table in the pub we looked at the menu at the table and had to go to the bar and order our food ,which we had to pay for before we had taken a bite??? The mixed starter came which was just ok with spare ribs being very tasteless. The two main courses came with boiled rice which we hadn't ordered but the waitress said we had. The meals looked good but had no taste. It was not a meal to rush back for!!

I’m a local to this pub/Chinese an I spent 30 pound on food for 3 off us an it was the horrible we had to got to thorngumbald Royal China Takeaway for food instead I will never eat at this place again 100% Royal China Takeaway at thorngumbald is the one to go to

On my first visit to hare and hounds I got a take away for two people which was special chow main and crispy beef, The special chow main was not bad ,I though it was missing a little gravy/ sauce on it but overall it was good and would get it again.my wife had the crispy beef with rice and again she said that she would try it again, Also the duck spring rolls were very good. Service was excellent I I phoned ahead and it was there waiting for me, well wrapped up and kept hot until I got home (20mins travel) I recommend it a try.

Absolutely brilliant, everything was prepared and freshly made, one if the best Chinese takeaways I've had in a long time. We will be back!!

We had a walk here on a Sunday lunch time and had a delicious carvery! The meat was plentiful, Yorkshire puddings and gravy were amazing and plenty of veg to choose from. Will definitely be back to try the Chinese food soon!

Went for a meal last night at the restaurant with a friend. Have had the takeaway twice previously and was lovely. But so many reasons I won't be going back again. Firstly we got there the atmosphere is strange very weird how it's set out....

Visited for breakfasts, Latte's were tepid, half full,very strong and the milk element appeared to be very lacking!! After waiting over 40 minutes for 3 breakfasts they finally arrived. All three were cold apart from the Sausages!! One breakfast was sent back as nothing had been well done as requested, even though this was brought out and mentioned by staff, this was the well done breakfast! It arrived back with hot Sausages and bacon and everything else again cold. This was passed on to staff who apologised and gave us an extra slice of toast....the only piece that was served warm!! Overall, such a shame as the quality of the ingredients appeared good, but who wants a cold breakfast and drink??? I'd definitely recommend going somewhere else if you like your food hot or at least warm!!

Food really nice will use takeaway again. Booked for the restaurant when we got there was given the takeaway menu and told prices were different but not told any prices. Told to go to a table then when ready to order go to the bar had to get own knife and folks from a tray at the bar. Ordered at bar and lady didn't even know we was sitting in the restaurant or should say bar placed order and when it came the main meal came first 1 item at a time then the at the end the starter. Booked for an anniversary meal and was disappointed paid about £15.00 more than the takeaway wish I hadn't bothered and its not a restaurant

Arrived to a table which was reserved with my name on it. We were seated and was told by cook they were just filling up after a large party had been served. 5 mins later we were told to go to carvery. Meat was lovely new piece of Beef was carved, I had turkey too. The veg was nice variety not soggy and even a lovely cauliflower cheese which was fab. Fresh yorkshire Puds came out. There was a good range of condiments and finally the Best Gravy. Well done 👏

Visited 1/5/22 for a carvery. Was very disappointed two medium carverys and two pints of lemonade to start with 27 pound and what a waste of money, I got beef which was dry and ham which looked under cooked, food looked to have been sat there to long and dry out , there wasn't even enough tong various different items and to top it off there wasn't any gravy which I had to pop my head in kitchen to ask for.....didn't and couldn't eat it, we will not be visiting again. Should of asked for refund !!!

We haven't been here for a few years and wont be returning . Food has certainly gone down hill since we last came . Waited about 50 mins for our food the steak was undercooked and still running around the plate . The salad had a funny taste to it , chips were luke warm . We went home and had something else to eat . Need to get someone in that can cook properly and takes pride in their food . 🤢

The staff at the pub were all very polite. They were accommodating to my partner who is vegetarian and coeliac. The meats were not dry, and there was plenty of it. The Yorkshire puds were great! My only criticism is the roasties and the broccoli were a little underdone and the mash was lumpy. The gravy was delicious, as was the cauli cheese though!

Not sure what other food is on the menu as we went for the carvery child £4.95. Adult is small £8.95. Medium £9.95. Large £10.95 we had the medium it was very nice lovely little pub in Burswick.

Carvery advertised till 8.30pm on Sunday. Called in for a carvery at 6pm . Was asked if we had booked. Told member of staff that we always walk in. Advised that all carvery items had been allocated and that walk ins could not be accepted. Was told normal menu items were still available. Upon leaving the blackboard outside was still advertising carvery available till 830pm. Come on Hare and Hounds. Get your act together. We are people who want to support local business.

Food has gone right down hill here carvery used to be the best for miles last Sunday was horrible mash with milk butter and cream allegedly was the worse I’ve had and 1 utensil for everything so on the spoon was mash with peas carrots and bits of broccoli stuck on it before even started using the spoon gravy was like water suppose changing the catering staff about every other month they no consistency

The carvery was really good, th staff were really helpful with a member of our party who suffers with dementia.

At the time I visited few people were in, service was fast and happy.

Went for a lovely meal, they have friendly staff, a Great atmosphere and a fantastic new menu with home cooked food and good prices. Sunday carvery is out of this world too.

Food was stone cold. Parsnips raw. Lumpy carrot and turnip with whole slices of carrot in it.
