The Ostrich Inn in Peterborough

Mi marido y yo estábamos en Peterborough para un partido de fútbol y había reservado un hotel para la noche. Uno de los pubs que decidimos visitar fue el Avestruz y nos pareció un excelente hallazgo. Está situado no muy lejos de donde estábamos alojados. El personal era amable y tenía una selección decente de cervezas reales en el bar. Aunque no es un pub en particular, tiene un gran ambiente. Merece la pena una visita si alguna vez estás en Peterborough.

Lugar impresionante, multitud diversa, personal amable. Me encanta cómo se puede chatear a todos los ámbitos de la vida y tener una buena risa. Las bandas en vivo realmente aumentan la atmósfera. Volvería una y otra vez

Experiencia horrible, molesta y poco profesional Mi novio y yo visitamos el avestruz esperando una agradable noche de música en vivo. Sin embargo, nuestra experiencia fue arruinada por el comportamiento poco profesional y acusatorio del personal del bar. Estábamos metiéndonos en nuestros propios asuntos en la esquina hasta que mi novio fue a tomar una segunda copa, momento en el que el camarero hizo una serie de acusaciones infundadas y ofensivas, entre ellas que parecía ebrio y había estado llorando. Estas afirmaciones eran totalmente falsas y profundamente perturbadoras. Cuando intentamos abordar el problema con el personal del bar y luego con el gerente, ambos fueron despectivos y poco profesionales, negándose a tomar en serio nuestras preocupaciones con el gerente continuamente gritando sobre mí. Es desalentador encontrar un servicio tan deficiente y un desprecio flagrante por el bienestar del cliente. No vamos a volver a este establecimiento y recomendaría ya sea el grifo de la cervecería o el cobertizo para cualquiera que esté buscando una bebida en un ambiente agradable Recomendación: El personal del bar debe recibir una formación adecuada y un entrenamiento de sensibilidad para garantizar que manejan adecuadamente las situaciones que implican la angustia potencial del cliente. Esto podría evitar malentendidos y posibles daños. Si se produjera una situación de este tipo, se podría haber causado un daño grave a la persona en situación vulnerable.

Atacado por una camarera extraña que llevaba un sombrero en el interior, sugiriendo que mi pareja estaba borracha o drogada o de alguna manera enferma o abusada, cuando no había absolutamente nada malo con ella. Inicialmente intenté ignorar sus comentarios, pero ella volvió insistiendo mientras me servía y me dejaba pagar por la bebida que sospechaba que podría darle a mi pareja. Realmente no podía entender de qué hablaba. Habíamos estado en casa todo el día y mi pareja había tenido una sola sidra. Estábamos charlando tranquilamente entre nosotros sin molestar a nadie cuando fui al bar a tomar otra (segunda) bebida para mí y esto sucedió. Insistió incluso después de que mi pareja le dijera que estaba bien y que no corría ningún peligro, de una manera que sugiere algún otro motivo oscuro. Lo único que se me ocurre es racismo. Hemos venido a este pub un número de veces siendo locales, pero estar seguros de que esta fue la última vez que obtuvieron mi dinero ganado con esfuerzo. Adiós. Actualización: Antes de partir mi pareja trató de confrontar a la camarera, diciendo que si ella había estado genuinamente convencida de que había estado en peligro ella debería haber hablado con ella personalmente, y solo obtuvo respuestas defensivas y más mentiras, por ejemplo, la camarera dijo que nunca había dicho que mi pareja había estado llorando (ella no había estado llorando) cuando había dicho exactamente eso. El propietario se involucró y en lugar de disculparse simplemente en nombre de su miembro del personal claramente inestable mentalmente y tal vez ofrecernos algo sobre la casa para enfriar las cosas, comenzó a hablar por nosotros diciendo que alguien que trabaja para él es negro (! ) para demostrar que no es racista. (Estuve allí 5 o 6 veces y nunca vi a nadie un tono más oscuro que el blanco nube trabajando detrás de la barra). También se acercó agresivamente a mí, al punto que tuve que preguntarle si estaba a punto de atacarme, diciendo que soy local y trabajo como médico en PCH. En ese momento se echó atrás y me dio más historias sobre su primo o lo que sea siendo paramédico. Le dije que simplemente debería disculparse como profesional porque un miembro de su personal acosó a dos clientes de pago que no estaban haciendo nada malo y siguió hablando sobre nosotros. Tenga en cuenta que éramos los únicos blancos pálidos no fantasmas en las instalaciones. Para colmo, al menos dos mujeres ancianas (era como una convención de pensionistas) me agarraron inapropiadamente dos veces mientras caminaba dentro y fuera del pub. Leyendo la última reseña de 1 estrella antes que la mía, todo tiene sentido. Una vez más. Evita como la plaga. La peste. Estas personas son peligrosas y viles.

Estábamos alojados en Peterborough y tropezamos con esta joya escondida. A solo metros de la plaza principal en una callecita tranquila el pub de avestruces realmente es excepcional. Su verdadera cerveza ale , artesana y sidras son deliciosas y tanta elección . Tenían una banda en vivo llamada los 707 y eran muy buenos con una lista de reproducción fabulosa. El personal era muy amable y el ambiente era eléctrico. Me alegro de que hayamos encontrado esto y hayamos tenido la mejor noche

Lovely staff and friendly locals in a traditional pub. I like the quirkyness and nucks and crannies. The range of beers is as good as it gets. Straight out of the city centre and take a 300m stroll to a great boozer.

Another amazing real ale pub with many awards including Pboro Best Pub 2022. A wide range of ales gins rums and just about everything. A vibrant live music venue too with just about every genre of music showcased. You cannot miss out this amazing and unique pub.

This is a small, friendly, backstreet, traditional drinking pub in the heart of Peterborough with live music from Thursdays through to Sundays. Great selection of cask ales that are always well kept. Good selection of ciders, wines and spirits. I've read some of the negative reviews which unfairly criticise the Ostrich for not being family friendly and also for the lack of food available. This isn't what The Ostrich Inn is about, there are plenty of eateries that cater for families around so if that's what you're looking for give The Ostrich Inn a miss. I hope this "real" review helps some of you out.

There was music on when we visited and given the size of the pub. The beer selection was excellent (8 on offer) and reasonably priced. There were four ciders available too. The staff were working hard and despite the pub being very busy there was minimal waiting.

Awesome pub for good beers 🍻 & becoming The Peterborough venue for live music 🎶 and a good atmosphere. Accidentally left my phone & bank card there last night & the fabulous bar staff kept it safe, worked out who I was & sent me a Messenger message in the early hours - to say that they had it. Two people that work there are so moody and hard to talk to. David being one of them. He has made it his own pub. That is why it is always slow in the week. If there was a person who was sociable working behind the bar it would attract mostly normal kinds of people. The last owner that was there advertised for worker that were slightly quirky because he thought it was cool to have that to attract a different type of persons. Now the pup has to think outside of the box because bands will probably be no longer as they are turning the shopping centre Beals into apartments. It would be a great place if it was more family friendly with staff being micro managed to a standard that is acceptable to the general public. As it is it’s not a place that you would want to bring your family along to. It is a loner pub for working class. Nothing wrong with that but it is a central pub and should be looking forwards as I would hate to see another pub close in Peterborough as others have done. A pub is a great pub and a busy pub if the staff a friendly. Evolving isn’t standing still. You can’t polish a turd.

We stumbled across this pub on a visit to Peterborough just as we were about to give up on the city. Real ale, live music and a nice atmosphere. It was a diamond in the rough.

This is a small backstreet pub which luckily has really well kept ales otherwise there’d be little to recommend it. The staff were largely indifferent to my requests and when they could be dragged away from conversations with regulars involving buying a large knife , conveyed to me that there was no food available because they only did pies and as these were frozen, it would take 40 minutes to cook one . Had I known this I would obviously have decided I wanted to eat 40 minutes before I knew I wanted to. After that , I was of no interest to them.

my wife had a debit card stolen as we were sat at that bar,told staff.....their reply was a shrug of the shoulders.,....it ruined what was a good weekend in Peterborough,most definitely will not return

Had a great night here on Saturday with live music, great ale and a very inclusive crowd. Fantastic atmosphere. Will definitely be returning.

We found this great wee place through Google maps. Brilliant atmosphere and great selection of beers! The barman was awesome at helping us pick a drink for our liking, so much so we stayed longer than planned! And very friendly, making our visit so enjoyable. Wish we’d found it sooner on our trip. So Much better than any of the pub chains in the area. Well worth looking for!

Neck oil on tap, always a winner. A great traditional pub with live music more often than not.. the layout is a bit annoying but don't let that put you off, it's usually pretty buzzing with good people.

Very friendly atmosphere. Nice little beer garden. I would definitely go again. I didn't even know it was here as it is tucked out the way a little bit (at the back of Westgate/Beales department store opposite the car park).

This is a proper pub for those who enjoy real ale. Only ever been in at around 2pm on arrival in Peterborough for early start on a long distance coach the next day but it's a comfortable place to chill out before checking in at the hotel. Has never done food on my visits. Nice artwork to look at on the walls.

Visited on Saturday evening, a good selection of ales and some great tastes available, unfortunately a punk band were playing, out of tune, loud and fast, but hey, I guess that is punk? Didn't hang around for more than one. Probably a better venue without the live music.

This pub is a real gem. Lots of craft beer, vegan stout and other tipples to choose from. They often have great bands from punk to ska and to top it all there is an amazing pop up vegan restaurant often in attendance. Friendly atmosphere and a cute enclosed beer garden.. You could almost forget that you are in central Peterborough

Visited the pub pub today with my wife stood there for 10 min ps not busy both staff looked at us and ignored us a regularly came to bar and was welcomed and served straight away ps I was the guy in the Dublin t-shirt

Unassuming old fashioned and comfortable pub. The real ale choice was good with local brewery Nene Valley well represented. Their Australian Pale was really good and at £3.50 a pint well priced. As a visitor in Peterborough this week I have concluded that the optimum Peterborough night out involves a few great pints in the Ostrich and a curry at the nearby Banyan Tree.

Nice clean little hotel close to Heathrow. The building in itself is an experience. Food was good but selection limited. Would prefer more traditional English dishes. Breakfast is table served and offered a decent selection but service was a little slow. Would stay there again.

It was busy inside so we sat outside, I couldnt believe how dirty the garden area was, it was filthy!!

Down from Edinburgh for a couple of days. Asked about pubs selling ale was pointed to the Ostrich. Not disappointed a good range of ales and friendly staff and customers. Well worth a visit.

I visited the Ostrich pub last night formally known as Bogarts to life long peterborough natives. I understand it has fairly new owners and the bar looked refurbished. There was a free jukebox and a live band for entertainment. I was drinking spitfire lager as I am not an ale drinker. It’s the kind of pub that doesn’t sell your fosters or Carlsberg or Peroni. The band which was excellent and I told them so at the end had to squeeze into a space which must have measured ten foot deep by 15 feet wide but they managed it equipment as well. I have seen bands play the other side of the pub which is much more spacious for bands. I guess more people can view the band if they play there. The toilets were quite unpleasant I used the cubicle during the evening and I won’t describe what I saw in the toilet and what I may have been standing in. Having said that this pub was busy and I am aware that it lost its appeal under previous ownership. I have to pay tribute to the landlord/landlady, as they have to be doing something right to draw in the punters.

A large group of women headed there after a rally last night and we got a lovely warm welcome. As they knew we were coming they'd laid on some nibbles - great scotch eggs! Good choice on draught, friendly & live music.

Good beer but difficult to get to bar because of a group of locals spread out with their shopping spread further along. Okay if they own the pub I will go elsewhere.

I have to say That Simon & Amy and all the staff at The Ostrich are amazing what a little find of a pub, very welcoming and friendly amazing value and great selection of ales, Lagers and gins keep up the good work

The Ostrich is a small but excellent pub with a vast range of events from live band nights to cheese and wine tasting. There is a great range of wines, beers, gins etc and one of the few places to sell Prosecco on tap. The owners Amy and Simon offer a warm welcome and are very accommodating with ideas for new events. The most refreshing thing is that all the bar staff are interested in getting to know you, unlike the chain pubs and restaurants where you feel like just a number. On Tuesday nights they provide a Tapas buffet free of charge with the purchase of two drinks and this is definitely worth a visit.

I like The Ostrich. It has a great selection of gins and craft beers. The staff and clientele are friendly and it has good music. The outside area is very enjoyable on a warm night.

Been going to The Ostrich for a few months and have to say it's so nice to find a pub that is this friendly and welcoming, Simon & Amy do an amazing job as do the rest of there staff, keep up the good work

good place with selection of alcohol. a few places with a dart board so good feature. a shame that if you choose music on the box that the staff dont like, they'll turn it down and refuse to repay you the money

Un gran pub. . Cervezas bien cuidados. real, artesanías cervezas, hasta la fecha, aunque tradicional, amable, correcta pub. Sin duda merece la pena una visita! !

Un salto en el sábado por la tarde para las bebidas con amigos para encontrar el personal muy amable y acogedor. La selección de bebidas era excelente e incluso tenían prosecco de barril! Por desgracia no había ninguna comida disponible, pero el personal muy amablemente nos dejó pedir pizzas y les lleve a comer.

excellent night, the new landlords are doing a great job, did try a milk stout which was lovely, but the idea was wine tasting with cheese, look forward to going back again very soon

Been to Peterborough many times and this is the first time I have visited this pub.Out of the way so not easy to find.Friendly staff and locals. Good beer and music from a jukebox and latter live music which was a bonus. Definitely worth a visit.

An oasis in an otherwise unspectacular street leading to a shopping mall. A traditional pub with a modern twist, friendly staff and locals, good beers, interesting menu although we were booked into a nearby Thai so were unable to eat there. But it saved our lives at a time when only a decent beer would do!

Really good selection of beers in a central location. Neat beer garden. Clean and tidy. Interesting art on the walls. Friendly.

Since I love real ales people have told me to try the ales here, I'm glad I listened as they have a good selection to choose from, the barman was a barrel of laughs made the visit interesting as a bonus they have a dartboard!! Will definitely be returning very soon

On several occasions now I have called here for a beer whilst waiting for the wife! It is located behind the department store and next to the large car park so ideal for those men (or ladies) who are waiting for their other halves. The beer has always been of the first order. The bar staff are friendly and knowledgeable about their ales. Basic decor and interior, but relaxing and a great place to pass away an hour or two.

The Ostrich is a lovely little city centre pub. Despite its location two minutes from the main shopping centre it's tucked away on a side street making it the perfect quiet location for a lunchbreak drink. The small patio courtyard is wonderful on a warm summer's day. The range of ales is good. Hidden gem!

There is a reason that this pub has won awards for being one of the best in the area. Has a true small-town pub feel, very friendly staff, and a good selection of real ales. For the true beer fiend, the staff is also knowledgeable in upcoming CAMRA oriented events.
