We had lunch in The Orangery. My husbands fish and chips was very nice however I had the steak. I can honestly say it was the worse bit of steak I have ever been served in a restaurant. In hindsight I should have gone for the fish and chips can’t go wrong with that.

The best roast lunch ever. We were quite shocked at the £19.50 Sunday lunch, it was fantastic value for the quality of food and service, having eaten at some of the “best” places in London, Sunday lunch doesn’t compare to the Orangery. It feels special but not too posh, just laid back charm with a wonderful view. We had the roast beef which was two thick slices of perfectly cooked, soft and tasty rib of beef, with the best vegetables and loads of crispy roast potatoes. Large portions across all the delicious courses. The rice pudding is a must but you may have to share, portions are big!! The staff at Carbis bay are very welcoming, both in the Beach bar, orangery and even the car park, everyone we came across made us feel welcome.

Visited the Carbis Bay Orangery in September and ordered a couple of sandwiches and some chips to share. Aside from the waiter being rude and lacking any hospitality training - we couldn’t get over how much of a rip-off this place is. It was £6 for a bowl of chips and we literally had 6 chips - £1 per chip for lukewarm fried potato is embarrassing. If you had fantastic service and gourmet food you could forgive the price, but with bad service and mediocre food I’d give this place a big swerve next time.

We booked afternoon tea for 3 of us, and on the phone the lady asked me if we had any dietary requirements, I explained that one of us does not like fish. We were quite excited about visiting as we are frequent visitors whilst on holiday. When we arrived we were seated and given the afternoon tea menu. I explained to the waitress that is was the full afternoon tea we wanted as booked on the phone. She said you can only have afternoon tea for two not three. I explained that the lady on the phone said it would be ok, she went off leaving us feeling a bit stupid and then came back and said it would be ok. We asked for two with coffee and one with tea. The coffee was filter coffee which was rather disappointing the tea was fine. When the afternoon tea arrived the waitress did not mention the fish situation and there was 3 of each sandwich, I felt it was too late to mention it. The sandwiches were very bland the scones and cakes were delicious. When we saw a couple on the table next to us having afternoon tea they had almost the exact amount of sandwiches ,scones and cakes that we had for three, so I feel at £30 a head it was not value for money. Service charged was added to the bill also, such a shame for such a lovely hotel.

Orangery Restaurant at Carbis Bay Hotel & Spa We enjoyed our breakfasts every morning at the Restaurant overlooking Carbis Bay. From fruit and yoghurt to the cooked breakfasts to the orange juice drinks to the pastries and coffees. The service was good and the views great. We also ate twice in the evening at the restaurant and enjoyed the fish meals and the beef and ale pie with mashed potato and Vichy carrots and a lovely gravy. What also made the evening was that on the Sunday there was a pianist playing, and also on the Friday we had Tom Quirke playing the piano. He was great and played a number of requests and he normally plays on the Saturday evening. In conversation with Tom we learned that we had two things in common. First he helps run the St. Ives Jazz Club, and I help run the Sutton Coldfield Trad Jazz Club, and second over 15 years ago I purchased a painting by Michael Quirke in St. Ives, who is Tom’s father. It is sometimes a small world. The Hotel I feel would be better if it displayed a poster on the musical entertainment events. Regards Gary Saunders

I so want to give this 3.5 or 3.75 because it was good but not really great - could have nearly been a 5⭐️ We booked for Sunday lunch - and taken to a lovely table by the windows / patio doors. I’ll start by saying the positives - it’s delicious food, fresh, great size portions and the meat was tender and cooked perfectly. Stunning location and nice atmosphere with a piano playing in the background. Why it’s not a 5 is little things - Too late after we had been seated to realise that the table wouldn’t allow you to put your feet under so Mr had to eat side ways - then realised the door doors were used constantly for people to get in and out - and often slammed inches from our table. My view stunning to the left but in front was a huge plant. Service was good for some and could see other tables having chats with the staff - our lady - was pleasant but not attentive, had to ask to order our desserts and our water wasn’t filled up up. But worst of all was my delicious meal was cold - I really didn’t want to send it back but I just don’t like cold food and it then meant my husband had to eat without me. But like I said was delicious..and was replaced. So close and would definitely go again and ask to move and hopefully leave a 5⭐️

Quite nice restaurant. Drinks in lounge beforehand were great Piano a little loud for our taste as close to diners in Orangery. Food was good especially the Bread and Cornish butter beforehand. I loved the tempura prawns. Tables a little small for everything. Metal legs to table a bit uncomfortable for sitting Again seemed to have staffing issues.

The food was excellent, very cheesy cauliflower cheese and tender beef sirloin. My only criticism was the broccoli was a little underdone. My friend who ordered the chicken said it was excellent. The staff were also great, friendly, genuine and they helped create a relaxed atmosphere. The afternoon tea also looked amazing and I will be back to try that

What a strange 'restaurant'. On a Saturday night in August it was less than half full. Despite this service was slow, staff seemed unsure of their duties and/or not bothered. The person who looked like the head waiter seemed more interested in cleaning tables ready to be laid up for breakfast than serving us. Food was strange, mushrooms on toast as a starter were heavy and unrefined. Only good thing was the pianist who was excellent. But this was spoiled by the head waiter and other staff constantly chatting to him, seemingly not bothered that customers could hear them? No atmosphere, lighting too bright.

Stayed 3 nights at the Gannet Inn absolutely lovely place kind and welcoming staff at the Gannet. I'd recommend dinner there. We booked afternoon tea here on our last day for the views are just stunning. Upon being seated 10 minutes later approached by the waiter asked us if we are guests? I said we're staying at Gannet to which he shrugged his shoulders and responded, "you're not really our guests then are you? There's plenty of hotels here isn't there but you're not our guests". My thoughts, what an arrogant little old man! He continued to belittle us. I sat patiently. Ordered tea with our scones and drinks... drinks arrived and scones too but over an hour later still no sign of our tea and the waiter did not come back to check on us. They were not busy at all only 4 other tables and 3 waiters, so there was not excuses. No table service, in fact service was so poor, I had to get up to go pay... I approached the same waiter, and advised we'd not received our tea, he said I'm sorry shall I get it for you now? I said no there's no point we had to leave. He then gave me the recipient expecting me to pay for service we did not recieved. I was vocal about this. He went away minus the service charge. We paid and left. What a spoiler to our stay. I think the G7 has really gotten to the heads of some of these workers. Arrogance is not kind or welcoming. We were guests regardless of where we were staying and I hope management take this feedback and give it to the said waiter.

We did a half board stay at the sister accommodation The Gannet and so we chose to have dinner at The Orangery one night. We felt we were treated as ‘lesser’ by the maitre-de as he said we weren’t really guests. The service was very lacklustre and he barely came over to our table despite the restaurant being at less than half capacity. We were given a lovely table facing the sea but unfortunately it was right by the patio door so hotel guests were constantly coming in and out and walking through the restaurant to get to the main house. It wasn’t the best of weather so this brought the wind through. Earlier in the day we tried to go through the restaurant to access the spa but was told we couldn’t due to guests eating breakfast, so it was surprising that they allowed so many people to use the restaurant during dinner as a thoroughfare. I had the bruschetta to start but the ‘bread’ was on crostini rather than sourdough or ciabatta which I thought was the standard for bruschetta. It was therefore quite difficult to eat as the crostini was tough to cut. For main I had the seafood linguine which was lovely and the fish was great. My other half had the Spanish chicken thighs tortellini which was also really nice. My partner had the chocolate brownie to finish, which was with a big dollop of clotted cream which we felt was an odd choice. The brownie was the driest brownie I’ve ever had and it was extremely disappointing. For the price of the food and drinks and the overall experience I wouldn’t chose to visit again and also wouldn’t recommend it.

We visited here last Saturday for my Mum’s birthday. The food was excellent, and the pianist was a nice touch. We had a window seat overlooking the beach which was lovely. While the food was pricy, it did feel like it was worth it. The drinks however were extremely expensive (£25 for a Kir Royale!) and I’ve therefore deducted a star because of this!

Sunday Lunch for two. Orangery Restaurant was a bit bizarre, as people were constantly walking past from the spa, in dressing gowns (or less)! People again, in beach attire, actually opening the outside door & walking through the restaurant into the hotel. Once seated, the waiter asked if we would like water with our meal. We were charged £4.50 for a bottle, we would not have agreed, if we had known the price. It seems to be a way to make extra money. I did not have a starter, as there was nothing I liked. Soup on the online menu was not an option. My husband had the scotch egg, which he enjoyed. Main course was roast beef. My beef had loads of fat on it. We both agreed it had no flavour. Veg was so 'al dente' it nearly shot off the plate when trying to cut. Yorkshire pudding was hard to cut & rubbery. Potatoes seemed frozen ones or yesterdays perhaps. Desert - husband had profiteroles. No actual chocolate topping, only a bit of sauce & ice cream, so no flavour to them. Very disappointing, as it was a gift.

The very old-fashioned pianist set a rather strange tone for Sunday lunch in what otherwise looks like a modern dining room. The clientele were all young-ish and it felt as though we should all have been out to lunch with our grannies. The food was decidedly mediocre. The risotto was chalky, crunchy and undercooked and nowhere in sight was the crispy sage listed on the menu. The sticky toffee pudding wasn't too bad but didn't make up for the disappointing main course. It's nice that all the servers were wearing face coverings, but someone should have told them not to bother if the masks were going to be under their noses the entire time!
