Cracking little spot hidden away on the edge of town. Best time to go is summer when the veranda sees a lot of sun, great views. Coffee is average (if you’re into your coffee otherwise it’ll be more than satisfactory) , however the food is solid. It also feels good to be supporting the local hospice too.

A lot has changed at The Orangery, unfortunately not for the better. Cafe was almost empty but table service was scowling, argumentative, rushed and unfriendly. Basic order placed, but inattentive server got both the drink and food orders wrong! She also did not return to check on us. The blonde will not return. Newest manager was made aware of all of this but did not say 'sorry' or offer to put it right. Additionally the quality of the food has gone way down in the last year or two, while the prices have gone up. So if you must go, skip the food, and go for an okay-ish cuppa and the view.

As a person following a gluten free diet i had a great experience here. The lemon meringue was gf (gf puddings are few and far between). I could have had banoffee roulade or carrot cake. The pork and mango burger is also gf. I had the homemade soup which was delicious. It's lovely to be able to support such a good cause!

Unfortunately we had an extremely abrasive member of staff from start to finish. Seated outside and then told once we had been served that we had to vacate the table in 20 minutes because a group wanted the table as they had a dog. An unpleasant member of staff who needs training in customer care; spoilt our visit and I will never go to this cafe again and I will not recommend.

My mum, two young daughters and myself visited the Orangery for lunch recently and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There are building works ongoing which restricted parking and took a little but away from the atmosphere. Obviously this can't be helped.I would recommend going early for lunch as it is very busy and the tables get snapped up.The menu is simple and caters for all tastes. We ordered a light pasta dish, portion of chips, two bacon & Brie hot sandwiches, two hot chocolates with all the trimmings and a can of pop- this came to around £20.The pasta dish was a decent size portion and came with a crusty roll. The portion of chips was plentiful. The bacon & Brie sandwiches were superb and came with a lovely fresh salad and gorgeous dressing and home made coleslaw. The girls had room for a chunky home made cookie whilst mum and I resisted the delicious home made cakes. The cafe was very clean, service was excellent ( all volunteers) and food delicious. I've had lunch here several times as I like buying from the hospice shops when I am in the lake district, so I try and have lunch at their HQ to support them too. This cafe is lovely, although on the outskirts of Ulverston town centre. If you don't mind a bit of a walk to be rewarded by fine views - this is the cafe for you! Basic menu (nothing exciting or inventive) but freshly cooked, local (where possible) produce. You won't find any frozen processed food here - yay! Staff in the cafe are mainly volunteers and they are friendly and efficient. Down side was me trying to buy a couple of tubs of English lakes icecream - they wanted something like £2.20 per tub! Sorry, that's outrageous - we went to Furness Abbey that same morning, which is an English Heritage site, and with these places you know you are going to pay that little bit more, BUT they were only charging £1.50 per tub. No way am I paying £2.20 per tub, whatever the cause - blatant rip off!

I'm amazed that I've only just discovered The Orangery - it's wonderful! For me it has become 'best in town' because the food is great and the prices so, so reasonable that for once it feels like one is getting value for money when eating out for lunch. The sun terrace (and whole setting really) are absolutely lovely; it's really happily situated and the volunteer staff do a fantastic job. Expect the odd mistake or mix-up for that reason but to be fair for those prices and such good food I didn't mind one bit.I would thoroughly recommend the Orangery for lunch to anyone - I have been on my own for a delicious, quiet lunch and have also taken my three-year-old daughter who found lots to keep her occupied in the toy and book corner. My husband and I also took our baby and sat under one of the large parasols on the sunny terrace - so relaxing and beautiful. The tables were very well spaced for wheelchair access which helped when getting a pram in too.The specials tart that I had was one of the best I've ever had and as for the ginger and lemon cake....just delicious!Do give The Orangery a try when you're next looking for somewhere different in Ulverston town - I stumbled upon it this way and am so, so pleased that I did.

I understand the orangery cafe is attached to a hospice. the cafe is open to the public. it has a beautiful veranda with amazing views, being a girl i love the cutsie bunting outside giving it a tea party theme. from what i saw of the food going out it looked amazing, me and my friends chose a king prawn curry and another (veggie) had a spicy beanburger. all really nice and very reasonable. the service was a little slow & complicated but as we now understand the staff are all volunteers, cant get better than that! there was a patient with their family in the cafe and i thought this was lovely, just proving to everybody what it is actually there for. i now use this cafe regularly and they have soya milk! unknown in many places.

The cafe is attached to St. Mary's Hospice, it serves a good selection of snacks and cakes and a decent cup of tea or coffee. What I really like is to sit outside on the decked area on a nice day, after a walk, where dogs are welcome

The Orangery at St Marys Hosice In Ulverston is a fantastic place to go for a meal, set in the most beautiful surroundings. The meals are all very reasonably priced, and very tasty. There is also a very good selection of homemade cakes and scones. There is a stunning patio area for sitting out, with magnificant views over Morecambe Bay.All money raised goes towards the Hospice, which provides a wonderful service for the local community.Once you have tried it you will definately return.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

As soon as we walked through the door the staff were welcoming and very attentive. The food was lovely and good value for money. We sat outside which is a great little sun trap for those rare sunny days in the Lake District. We would high recommend and we will definitely be back .

We have been here many times over the years and love it. Dropped in for a drink last week. Wooooah! £9.80 for a Prosecco and a pint of cider shandy is the same price as a pint of cider - about £7. So by that maybe a pint of lemonade is also £7? I’m sure many people stop for a drink while walking in the beautiful lakes but next time we might find another stopping point. Although living in the North East maybe we just have cheaper pubs up here??!!

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.
