The Onslow Arms in Guildford

This was a special occasion for my 80th birthday with all the family. The Onslow Arms did us proud. The table location was great,as was the food and the overall atmosphere. Our waitress,Gabby,was extraordinary and gave us great service. It will certainly be a place to revisit regularly.

What a fabulous pub-restaurant. The venue is beautiful, old but light and welcoming. We were a large party and everything went perfectly. The food is absolutely delicious and the staff are amazing - highly recommended. Thank you Gabby!

Very helpful and friendly staff. No issue with accommodating our dog. Food and service was excellent, especially the pan fried trout. And open at 11am on a Sunday 😁

Three if us had a late lunch in the garden. Beautiful pub with an excellent outside seating area. Very busy, popular place. I had trout with mashed potatoes and onions. Delicious! Im a pescatarian who does not like fish to look like fish. So what i liked was that it was a trout fillet, with no heads or tails visible. Service was a little slow, however, they were very busy. I would certainly go there again.

Amazing experience ! Food is very tasty and delicious. Stsff are nice well kept and professionals. Top of the top ! The atmosphere is perfect, rustic with style and cosy. Also, the customers were mdium high class, which made the experience more enjoyable. Definitely recommend 👌. Thank you for the amazing dinner 🌈

A great ‘lunchtime pub’ - and probably just as good in the evenings! Had a quick lunch here today with colleagues - atmosphere, food and staff all really good. Great car park too! Will definitely visit again.

Good range of dishes on the menu and food was excellent. Friendly and attentive service.

I was disappointed as we have really enjoyed this pub in the past. I told them it was a 50th birthday celebration but no effort made to make the birthday special. The service was extremely slow, we were not offered any more drinks and had to literally leave our table to find someone to help us; get sauces, clear plates, etc. I asked if the crackling was “crackly” and was given a sample of a bar snack which was out of a packet but when the pork arrived it was covered in rubbery crackling. The food was ok but a bit cold on arrival and not overly tasty. It felt like the restaurant was too packed and understaffed which hugely impacted the experience and service. Won’t be returning any time soon.

Seems to have gone down hill. Is that due to Youngs' increased influence? Beef was a bit chewy and vegetable accompaniment (Sunday lunch) was very limited (used to be varied and tasty).

The most consistently delicious food in the area. We try other pubs but are always lured back here to celebrate big family birthdays because they do everything very well.

We always go to the Onslow arms for a special occasion or when we have visitors and have always been impressed. BUT on this occasion thr food was awful (vegan Wellington was all pastry with a tiny amount of bland vegetable inside). Service was appalling. Our drinks, which we ordered well before our meal did not arrive until our main Course came.

We love Gabriella! She is happy, knowledgable, super patient and efficient. It is always a pleasure to eat at The Onslow Arms and so much of that is down to the fantastic team you have built and having people like Gabriella as a part of it.

Unfortunately our lunch today was very disappointing, we've had some far better meals there in the past, we won't be going again any time soon!

Lovely setting, a very comfortable pub but today our dishes - all popular meals / specials - were average at best. We've been going to the Onslow for over 20 years, had some excellent meals in the past but today was not one of those days. Lunch for 4 was over £180, it was poor value for money. We will not be returning in a hurry! The staff were pleasant and helpful if a little inexperienced.

A fine sandwich and pint for lunch. Subsequently I visited with a large crowd of family and the garden was perfect.

We came in 4 paeople. Ordered 2 steaks and a fried haddok. One steak ordered as rare, but received somethin which would not cut, and could not be eaten, we had to return the steak and after additional grilling it was ok, no more. The 2nd steak was ordered well, and what was provided was unchewable and unedible, the person had to speat out the meat. The haddok was fried to a crisp, it was dried and very small. Seems like the fish was used to clean the used oil (see photo) i had to scrape pieces of the fish off the cover. I can say the fries were good, and the cider was good. You can go if you want beer and fries, but avoid the food.

Had a lovely roast dinner with my partner Ian. The beef was cooked to perfection, however I was very disappointed in the vegetables which untortunately were not enough, very tiny portions, couple of csrrots, one parsnip and small amount of greens. please do not skim on this as everything else was great! Our Waitress Gabby was very attentive. However I would not go back again for a sunday roast because of this. Juliette and Ian

Stopped in on way back to Essex for a quick bite, unfortunately wasn't that quick. Waited about an hour for food. Understandably they were busy, but it was the people coming in after us that were being served before us that annoyed us the most. Got a free round of drinks as an apology. Maybe we were just unlucky I don't know.

The food is always amazing and we've eaten here a lot but this time the service was extremely slow which is not good as we had our grandsons with us and our little grandson was so hungry waiting over an hour for our food , so very stressful which is not ideal when it's a birthday celebration with family,it should be fun and enjoyable.we will probably not come back which is a terrible shame as the food is beautiful

A beautiful, quality Sunday Roast in a cosy setting. Beef, pork and chicken all delicious - large portion size. Service team led for our table by Gabby were all friendly and efficient on a busy lunchtime service.

Food good but unusually brought wrong chicken dish and said sorry it's chicken satay not chicken salad is that ok!? It wasn't but we accepted it. Still got charged for it!!

Attractive pub, with goats, and next to the canal. Friendly staff & good atmosphere. There were a few vegan options on the menu & I enjoyed the vegan Moving Mountains burger.

We have always enjoyed visiting this pub, for all sorts of occasions. The food & service is consistently excellent. We really appreciated the nice touch of bringing my 85 year old mum a birthday ice cream and a rendition of Happy Birthday - thank you! The only gripe we have is that there is absolutely no vegan dessert on offer (at least not listed on the menu) & hope this would be considered in the future. We will be back, so maybe next time? Many thanks for a lovely lunch.

Lovely bank holiday lunch, all the staff were very friendly and attentive and our daughter's food allergy was taken seriously and not an issue, they even had dairy free ice cream, which made a 3 year old very happy. Will definitely return!

Had a very nice time. Lovely garden and the wine was a good pub wine. Really polite bar staff and good service. Food was a different menu from the normal pub grub and that was interesting and I liked the different choices. Although very burger based. But… my pet peeves was that everything was “sticky”. Sticky menu’s 🤢, sticky bar 😬. Such a simple fix, yet leaves a concerned impression.

Food and service excellent. Booking a table is essential - its a popular pub ! The curry sauce with the haddock is NOT curry sauce as I understand it. It tasted like it might be out of a bottle of HPcurry sauce. Everything else 5 star.

Great place with delicious food. We had reserved a table for four for a Sunday dinner but had to wait over an hour for our meal. Otherwise everything else was very pleasant.

Think this place has really good quality food and ambience. Superb roast dinner. Plenty parking, good access, lovely summer garden.

We booked a table here for my birthday and what a fantastic place it turned out to be. It's got ample parking and a wonderful outdoor space with tables and chairs, some underneath thatched roofs, and a garden area if you want to sit in amongst trees. The place is full of character with beams and is very picturesque. We had a table inside and were seated as soon as we arrived. The staff were exceptional and very friendly. Our drinks arrived quickly, and we ordered our food with the waitress. I had the chicken ham and leek pie with vegetables and Jersey royal potatoes, my girlfriend had Trout Nicoise with a salad. Of course we had desserts, I had apple and rhubarb crumble and my girlfriend had the chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice-cream .We both agreed that the food was the best we've had and the place was beautiful. Honestly hope to go back there one day.

Always does good food and has good beers on tap. Have been coming for years and not had a bad experience yet!

Had an amazing Saturday Lunch with family + our dogs. The food was great and everyone was super friendly, especially our server Ella who went the extra mile for our table and dogs - looking forward to coming back!

We came with 2 dogs and were given a table with shade. The service was excellent, polite and courteous staff. Even bought out a citronella candle to fend off a pestering wasp. We will be back x

Popped down to celebrate my Dad and Grandma's birthdays. Charlotte was very friendly and the service from her and the other members of the team who helped us was great! Would reccomend the Liver and Bacon, it was lovely!

Pascal and his team looked after us from first arriving until we had finished our meal and were leaving. Arrived early and had coffee, then when we were ready Pascal showed us to our table and we were attended to so well by all the very friendly staff. Food was excellent, all dishes arriving together for our party of six, and extremely well presented. Will be recommending the Onslow arms. Well done Pascal and team.

Lovely restaurant in the Surrey hills targeting rich retirees who can lunch at leisure. We came for a team leaving lunch and enjoyed superb food.

Fantastic food fitting in a last minute booking! Superb beef roast!

A real favourite for us usually, but for the second time in a month the service was definitely below par. It was a fairly busy Wednesday evening. The number of staff seemed inadequate and the manager seemed to be busy waiting on tables rather than managing. Whilst the food was still good the mushy peas with the fish and chips were very poor - we mentioned to the waitress and she said she would let the kitchen know but we didn’t hear any more…. Waited a long time for our main and had to chase it ….and then too long for desert order to be taken so gave up and got the bill. Usual standards of excellence were not evident which is such a shame. Thought it was a one off last time but this was the second time so felt a review was appropriate.

Such great service and vibes at this venue! Loved chatting to ciara she always welcomes us with open arms and ensures we have a great time! X

I have been Charlotte’s pub quiz twice now, and will be at my third! She was very friendly and whilst we were quizzing I had the delicious camembert. The quiz has a great variety of questions and very personable! Also Really great atmosphere and lovely interior. Highly recommend!

Great service to start with (before they got too busy) and lovely atmosphere but disappointing food. The trout niçoise portion was really small, the roast beef and roast pork was average. The beef was tough, Yorkshire puddings were too oily and the roast potatoes were over cooked - tasted like they had been cooked multiple times even though our table was only at midday. This was our third visit (last one was a year ago) and we were really disappointed.

Visited with family. Staff were super helpful and friendly as always. Atmosphere was great. cosy - but also with aircon in the hot weather (but not draughty, sensible temp) As usual food was lovely too. This time I enjoyed the chicken pie which was really flavoursome. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Just one let-down. On this visit the toilets weren't quite as clean as they could be. Would be nice to see this addressed

Our group of 8 had a very nice lunch … the food, service and atmosphere were all good. One thing we would comment on is that increasingly, more enlightened restaurants do not automatically add a 12.5% Service Charge but present their client with a Credit Card Screen that list possible options … much more courteous and service-minded … see photo attachment example. You might want to consider introducing this facility instead of imposing a fixed 12.5% ‘fait accompli’ amount … for your consideration ….

Absolute delight to have an al fresco luncheon there. Pascal reserved us a lovely shaded table and was his usual charming and highly attentive self as were his team. Thoroughly recommended.

Service was on the one hand hurried but the food extraordinarily slow to come out. The dish we ordered was incomplete. I feel that if they had no bacon that day, we ought to have been told in advance, as we wouldn't have ordered the dish, given the bacon was an important element. Why offer alternatives of rare, medium and well done if your chef ignores the request. Overall a very weak and inept offering.

Great lunch and drinks at the onslow arms. The food and desserts were amazing.

We ordered two pork roast dinners, overall subpar bland. presentation ok, Yorkshire pudding undercooked only thing that was decent and tasteful was the carrots. Beautiful venue, underwhelming food. One waiter in particular had a keen eye, extensive knowledge of food and drink incredible host. Do not know his name but he had a French accent.

Lovely evening eating out in the garden. Good food and very helpful and friendly staff. A good wine offering and reasonably priced, which is a bonus these days! Near the station, came down from London.

The food and service at the Onslow Arms is outstanding. I would go back and eat/drink here at the earliest opportunity. They have wonderful food, fantastic local ale (Shere Drop) and particularly I must mention the service from Pascal. I don't think I have received better, more attentive or more friendly service anywhere. Thank you so much Pascal and Onslow Arms.

Rude Blonde Man behind the bar, No hello or manners just when i approached with a sour look. Made me feel very unwelcome. The building is lovely however the atmosphere was ruined by the owner or manager constantly parading around after he felt it necessary to glare as he walks past. Only stayed for a drink each in the end couldn’t leave quick enough.

Not as good as usual. Lamb was overcooked. Burgers were fine but the cheese was not normal type I don't think and very strangely odd tasting - not off - just odd. Took forever to get all drinks ordered. And they weren't that busy. Maybe because we were in the garden room.

We are regulars here, last night was a little disappointing. We were served one of our meals well before the others and there was a long wait. Unfortunately the waitress spilt beer all over me. These things happen but it could have been handled it differently, at the end of the meal we were told we wouldn’t have to pay for the spilt beer! May have been an idea to offer a free drink? This is the first time we have not had a great experience here.

My husband and I are frequent visitors to the Onslow Arms. We’re never disappointed - the service and the food is always expectational. We visited for dinner last night and Benjamin looked after us - he was incredibly friendly, personable and highly professional - an asset to the Onslow Arms team.

Sunday roast is so-so, what I'm more angry is that the waitor ignore the potential safety issue with the baby, he always deliver the real hot dishes really close to the baby, and do not change even after I kindly point out that.
