I went to the pub yesterday for a Friday night family dinner. We decided to have starters and it took a while for the mains to come afterwards so that was a little of an issue but the pub looked quite full at that point so it was expected. Friendly staff and overall nice food, possibility the pie my husband had was slightly overcooked. Nice GF options, we would go back in summer to sit in the garden that looks great!

When we first moved to West Clandon, the Onslow Arms was a semi-independent pub with an enviable menu and excellent service. Now part of the Youngs chain, service and food are a shade of their former selves. Gone are the ‘slaw, onion rings and pickles of the original burgers, replaced by an average burger and a tin of fries - not a hint of a salad leaf, let alone the above… and despite the additional offer of bacon and blue cheese, the bacon appeared to have disappeared. Roast beef presenting well, with a massive Yorkshire pudding, was cold on arrival, so how long had that been plated for and left out? The wine eventually arrived, half way through the main course, and staff seemed pretty disinterested in general. A brilliant venue, but clearly lacking some inspiration and leadership.

This place had really good reviews from friends but we unfortunately had a bad experience. We were a table of 12, we waited an hour for our starters, the starters with bread were sent back as the bread was burnt black. The drink service was not good we had to keep chasing drink orders. The gentleman who was looking after our table did his best and apologised, he was polite, pleasant and professional but wasn’t supported. Our mains were lovely but came out at different times so some of us had to start eating while others hadn’t received their meals. Desserts were ok, although the crumble needed slightly more than a sprinkle of crumble. I’m sorry I can’t leave a good review and I’m not normally a complainer and, to be fair, they did remove all the starters from our bill without us asking which was good of them, but a meal we were looking forward to was rather disappointing.

We attended on Burns night to have the pre ordered Burns night fixed meal. There were 6 of us with a table booked for 1900. By 1930 no one had asked for drinks orders. I had to go and find someone. The soup course arrived at 20:00. Our desert arrived at 2120. Most of us had ordered Cranichan - this is an oats based desert with cream. However there were no oats in the dish - it was just a bowl of cream with some blackberries. I asked a waiter about this and we had no come back on it. I advised another waiter that we wanted the cost of the deserts removed and also no service added. The restaurant did remove the cost of one meal and the service. We did pay service though by providing cash to the staff. Overall it wasn't a good night with not great food and slapdash slow service. A shame as we have been to the venue before and it was good then. They were overbooked with too few staff.

Nice pub, very comfortable, however the food was mildly disappointing, we had two steaks and and the mussels. Maybe we had two stringly bits of meat, but it was not great. We had Sunday dinner here over the weekend and unfortunately we won't be going back. Reviews looked good, car parking good, pretty good atmosphere in decent surroundings but the food let this place down. We ordered 2 Beef Sunday dinners and when they arrived, the beef was just too tough. My wife couldn't chew it and I struggled to cut mine with a steak knife so we brought this to the attention of the staff. We were dealt with in a very friendly, understandable and reasonable manner and decided to change our order to the pork. This came and was very good, but unfortunately, the Yorkshires were cold, not room temp but cold in the middle like they had not been fully defrosted, then heated back up. The cauliflower cheese was lots of little bits of overcooked cauliflower and was extremely mushy. The vegetables were just warm but I couldn't be bothered to explain or complain again. Pudding was very good, nice and hot, but the custard was cold (Not sure if this is the way it was meant to be served but this is a little strange to me). It wouldn't take much to address these issues either but I cant afford to pay for a Sunday dinner that in my opinion is sub standard

Sadly the food at The Onslow has gone from being reliably great to being very poor. I had the roast chicken for Sunday lunch. The chicken wss served in two pieces on the bone - leg and wing with the small fillet. It looks like a lot but it’s mainly just lots of bone and skin. I could barely cut the roast potatoes which has been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. The stuffing was a ball of rubbery texture with no flavour. The single carrot that was served was charred black and the cabbage was ok. The cauliflower cheese (which was an extra dish) was mushy and over cooked - clearly just a reheat with cheese grated on top and put under a grill. The whole plate was swimming in a thin, lukewarm gravy that had no flavour causing the Yorkshire pudding to resemble a very large soggy dish rag. The plate looked a mess and the food was tasteless. It looked and tasted cheap which it wasn’t. Clearly the Onslow kitchen is struggling since the change of kitchen staff and the current menu is very limited but you should be able to turn out a great Sunday lunch as a basic. The waiting staff are very nice and to their credit they did feedback to their manager who offered replace the meal but given how limited their menu is, I didn’t bother. We didn’t have dessert so I can’t comment but having been before I can say that that too is a fairly limited menu . We paid £55 for two meals with two non-alcoholic drinks. We have come here for years but honestly I won’t be back any time soon. The pub is lovely, the garden is nice in summer and the staff want to do the right thing but sadly the kitchen at The Onslow Arms needs to get back on its game.

Having been going here for manage many years I have so very disappointed in how down hill it has gone. I went in today with my husband to have a quick lunch. I ordered the cauliflower soup. An old favourite of mine. It is now watery with no substance, no flavour and just nasty. It tastes like packet soup. I returned we this and asked for a prawn cocktail. This arrived with a slice of bread which has been taken off my soup plate. I asked for butter to be told they don’t have any !!!. I then had to ask for some dressing for my prawns, all 8 of my prawns !!!. The smallest prawn cocktail I have ever had the richest price tag of £10. My husbands fish and chips was ok. The manager was kept informed by his staff of my requests (as I watched the waitress keep telling him) but at no point did he come over, try to apologise or offer any recompense. Sadly the Onslow Arms has lost its charm of old with penny pinching on ingredients and lack of customer care. The whole experience was topped of by one member of staff walking out of the kitchen saying “it stinks in there”. I couldn’t wait to leave after this.

Lovely surroundings in this old pub but the food was underwhelming. My son had cauliflower soup and I had the mushrooms on toast which were both tasty although the soup only warm. My son had the burger and I had the duck breast (a special). The burger comprised two small patties rather than one larger one which seemed a bit pointless and a bit dry. The fries with it were good but there was no other salad or garnish on the plate. The duck breast (?£25) was beautifully cooked but was small and presented on artichoke purée with only a couple of mushrooms for garnish. The cherry sauce was delicious though. It all seemed somehow a bit lacking.

Really lovely. Popped in yesterday to meet up with some old friends for lunch and had a very nice time. The atmosphere was lovely and it's a very pretty and homely pub on the inside. It was absolutely crammed with people which was less enjoyable, but what else is to be expected on the weekend after Christmas! I thought the staff dealt with the amount of people there and the service very well with professionalism and timeliness. The young guy that served us was lovely although unfortunately I didn't get his name to give him a positive shout out in the review. Food and drink was very nice. Yorkshire pudding was a little bit overdone is probably the only criticism, but again, it happens, especially when it's busy around Christmas! Take your eye off those things for 30 seconds and it's too late. The 0% amaretto sour mocktail was very enjoyable and would recommend.

The pub itself is very nice. The restaurant food lacks a wide selection of meals. I would also say it is a bit overpriced. Two fish and chips and a bottle of cheap wine will cost you more than £75! It used to be a much better place before! We went there yesterday and the food was served within 5 minutes from arrival and before the wine!! We had to ask for the wine twice to be served. We had booked a table for a family get together including a 13-month old. Everything was ready for us when we arrived a little early. The staff were very welcoming and courteous despite the fact that the place was heaving with diners. The food was very acceptable and arrived hot, and timely. The only real ‘spoiler’ for us was an incredibly noisy family group on an adjacent table who, apart from all apparently anxious to shout at the same time, also diverted staff when complaining about the size of the plates their food arrived on and one or two other trivial grumbles. This, of course, was something the establishment could do little about but from our point of view it would have made the visit more pleasurable had that mob not been there. I also expect the staff would have been happier too! Hence only 4 stars for atmosphere. Once again, a very nice pub with good food, excellent staff and a capacious car park.

I have always opted for Onslow Arms for lunches with family or friends. Yesterday, my friends and I had our Christmas lunch there. It was great that when we were served, the waiter called out our names to indicate our choice of menu. It made a difference for it to be personalised. It is not cheap as a 3-course meal cost £40 plus service charge taking it to £45 each. I enjoyed our salmon started. However, the main course of Turkey was a little disappointing as it could do with more green vegetables. The three brussel sprouts were over boiled. We were there by 1200 and the service was rather slow. We had to remind them that we had to leave by 1440 because of a school pick-up and waited for our deserts. I guess they were short of staff in the kitchen.

We have been coming for years but quality and presentation was really poor on this occasion. £29 Sirloin Steak was dry and over cooked with wilted salad on side. Satay Chicken salad was bland and poorly presented. We were tucked away in the corner of a near empty restaurant away from the open fire and atmosphere. £100 bill plus 12.5% service charges added. Extremely disappointing overall experience and won’t be rushing back unfortunately.

Very nice pub-like venue. Very busy and the service was efficient. I chose battered cod and chips, which I regret. There was far too much batter on the fish! The dessert of winter plum fool seemed more ice cream than plums. Anyway, I’d go back but choose my food more carefully and ask questions too.

We are locals, and ever since half the staff went to a neighbouring village pub the service, food is poor. We've been a few times hoping it would get better, but it just got worse. Another pub youngs brewery has ruined.

A terrific lunch had in the pub area. The food was delicious, well prepared and promptly served after ordering. Friendly, attentive staff and a convivial atmosphere. I will definitely be back!

Wonderful Sunday Roast superb staff and service! Always book as it was packed out. If you have dogs you can take a table in the bar area as dogs aren’t allowed in the main restaurant room. But the bar is very cozy so highly recommend!

Meat the Greek is absolutely phenomenal—the best Greek food we’ve ever had, even better than what we’ve experienced in Greece itself! The pork gyros portion is our absolute favorite and keeps us coming back time and time again. We regularly travel miles just to dine here, and it’s always worth the journey. The authentic flavors, generous portions, and high-quality food make it stand out above the rest. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff are always friendly and attentive. If you’re a fan of Greek cuisine, Meat the Greek is a must-visit!

I've tried this place twice. First time, absolutely loved it, no complaints. Second time and most recently, the taste was not great at all. My bowl tasted entirely of acetone/ nail polish. I wasn't able to tell what ingredient it was but it was so overpowering that I had to throw the whole bowl away.

I can’t recommend this place enough the apartment we stayed in was cosy and clean and exactly what we needed to get away from our busy life’s for the weekend, we decided to eat in the pub on Sunday and it was hands down the best roast dinner I have ever eaten and Iv eaten a lot! The food was superb, myself and my friend spoke about it for days after and having been craving the pork belly ever since! even the coffee is full of flavour. The pub itself has a beautiful feel cosy and warm but with a modern twist, staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating. We had some usually a little naughty dogs with us who also seemed to love it and behaved the best they ever have in a pub to date. Don’t hesitate, go, you will not regret it
