The Olive Tree Coffee Shop and Restaurant in East Riding of Yorkshire

Wasn’t hungry so asked for just one poached egg on one slice of toast. Bill came and they charged me full price £8 for it, queried it and they still charged me that. Pretty disgraceful really. Coffee service was fine. Won’t be going again though.

The food was bland and tasteless, completely overpriced. The woman that took our payment was very badly mannered, not even a thankyou. will not go again.

Never felt more unwelcome in a place. Popped into the garden centre and fancied a coffee, possibly a snack. Miserable woman asked if we had booked a table - rolled her eyes when we said we'd only come to buy some cacti, but thought a coffee would be nice. Coffee was ok, but overpriced. Will not be returning. Take a flask! 😀

We have been coming here for many years now and have sadly seen a marked decline in the standards of service, value for money and inconsistent standards of food served on offer in the Olive Tree Café. We noted the price of soup of the day at £9.20 within this Café! The Star at Sancton prices its soup at £9.50. This is a noted, luxurious restaurant we are lucky to have within our region. Not a pretentious Garden Centre Café. Can I urge the management to look at other comments on this website and take serious note of other complaints with regard to its pricing policy and attitude of some of the staff. There are one or two in need of of an urgent course of good Customer Care skills, before standards decline any further within this Café.

Had another super lunch at the Olive Tree with my parents. Having made sure to book we were greeted with a smile and shown to our table. It was busy due to its popularity but the staff were attentive and the food was very tasty. Selection of cakes for desert is excellent and the coffees too. Staff looked after us throughout. Thank you 😊

First and last visit. Extremely unfriendly staff in restaurant, over priced and poor quality. Not a patch in sister site in Howden.

Always thought we would try it so tried Sunday Lunch it like to think restaurant but the only thing that's restaurant is the prices not restaurant service or staff or the food

My first, and last visit. Made to feel most unwelcome by the lady who asked “have you booked?”. It’s a cafe dear, not a restaurant. Have being, begrudgingly, given a table for 4. got a similar reception from the waitress when we didn’t want to order from the overpriced menu and just wanted coffee and cake. The garden centre was lovely though.

This is one of our favourite places to eat. Went today for a hot meal and both the lasagne and lamb cutlets were great quality and very tasty. We have found that the food is very good for breakfast and lunch or just coffee and cake. The disabled toilets are the best of any garden centre in our area. The staff are friendly and efficient and always find me a convenient table as I'm in a wheelchair.

We visit the Olive Tree on a regular basis and it is fabulous. Friendly yet efficient staff and yummy food too, what more could one ask for. Today we had the brilliant homemade scones, they are huge and full of fruit. On previous occasions we have had sandwiches and sometimes a full lunch, all are delicious.

Best fish n chips around and very tasty 😋 well recommend. The fish was chunky and lovely crispy batter. Homemade chips and went down great with granary bread and butter.

Unfortunately wouldn’t let us have coffee for 4. Lots of tables for 2 people but not allowed to move a couple of chairs so we could sit down. Got a take out (lovely coffee) and sat on a bench in the car park. Such a shame staff couldn’t be more accommodating. Staff in garden centre always excellent, just not of the same standard in cafe.

As soon as we arrived a stony faced woman shouted ‘Have you booked’? It’s only a small cafe not the Ritz. Food arrived after a long wait, fish and chips which was almost cold, and the mushroom soup was so salty it gave me a headache all next day. Not to be recommended, very disappointing.

I took my 80 year old grandparents here for lunch and the staff were very rude. Would not recommend for family’s to visit. My grandparents was disappointed. A real shame.

We have been here a couple of times now and probably wont return. Most of the staff that work in the cafe are as miserable as sin especially the older woman with blonde hair. Its as though you are an inconvenience to her to be there. The food was had was nice but very overpriced for what you get. The girl who served is in the garden centre was very friendly though.

We stopped off here for lunch on our trip to the coast. The chap who was by the entrance was welcoming and friendly but that's where it ended. We approached the cafe and the long faced staff weren't welcoming at all. We were asked if we had booked...well obviously not, it's a garden centre. We were then told we could sit outside the main part even though inside was barely full. We decided on a drink as the food was ridiculously priced. Friends had tea which they said was fine but my coffee was awful. On paying my friend was met with a very abrupt member of staff who was rather rude to her. The moral of this story is....don't bother. It's not worth it to be ripped off and to not be made welcome. Maybe if you are local it's different but we shall not be visiting again. We took our business elsewhere on our journey, had.better food, better price and served with smiles etc.

Went to the garden centre to buy a decent trowel with hubby and thought we would just pop in for a coffee and sandwich. We used to eat here about 5 or 6 years ago and it was a favorite spot for my mother. Unfortunately the cafe /restaurant ambiance appears to have changed. A man hovering in the restaurant/ cafe doorway waiting to be seated was ignored for over 5 mins until we encouraged him to walk beyond the 'wait to be seated sign' when he was then actually noticed. We were seated not long after. Waitress was very pleasant. No issues there. Unfortunately the menu could only be described as very boring for a lunchtime menu and extremely expensive for such average fare. We were so underwhelmed that after reading the menus we decided not to stay. In my opinion here are at least 3 better value cafes in the area with more interesting offers during the day.

Shocking service, staff told us wrong specials, limited menu meant we decided to go elsewhere after our drinks. Made worse by being called back in to the cafe 5 minutes after paying to be told the note was fake. I feel absolutely scammed as there was no way of proving it was the note I’d paid with and the note had come from a cash machine the day before! Avoid the place!

Excellent mackerel and salad with tartare sauce which created a harmonious palate of exciting flavours. Staff were kind, efficient and helpful. Not cheap, but worth the money. Whole place was clean (including the toilets). Very child friendly and lots of smiles. Highly recommended.

This garden centre and cafe are the best I've seen. A beautiful place. The cafe is amazing sells everything from proper meals to afternoon tea we just had cakes and pots of tea the cakes were superb and loads to choose from. I bought a couple off plants here which were reasonably.priced. All I'm all a superb place. Anne walker

Olive tree is lovely eating place, especially after a walk with friends. The food is top notch ….everything about this eating establishment astounds me, standards are excellent ….quality of the food, friendly staff, it’s clean and warm with no blaring music ….I would recommend eating here to anyone who likes eating out.
