After looking around the garden centre , we retired to the cafe , we only had coffee and cake. The scone and apple crumble cake appeared to be homemade and were delicious and the coffee was spot on. Whilst we were there some breakfasts were bought out to the table next to us , they were clearly high quality component , presented nicely . Consequently We are returning next weekend to enjoy brunch ourselves

Lovely garden centre and super cafe! All fresh made breakfasts and light lunches. Just had coronation chicken jacket (salad and coleslaw) and a soup of the day with cheese toastie. Delicious - didn’t sample the cakes that all look great with a variety of interesting offerings! We often use this as a break going east or west on the A14 - so much more relaxing environment than motorway services! Highly recommend this family owned haven!

I went in for cooked breakfast and ordered at 10.13 but didn’t get the food for 40 minutes long after I had finished my coffee. No point in serving hot drink if this is going to happen. Food was good but the wait is totally unacceptable. This was quite early and only got busy about 10.45 so should be better. Toilets not very clean either . They really need to get their act together as used to be good .

Disappointing experience. We wait 30 minutes to get our breakfast. Others in our group who ordered immediately before us, had all finished before ours arrived. People who came after us were served before us. When the breakfast arrived, the eggs were very over cooked and toast was soggy

I am sad to say this as the food was good and the prices were very good.....but the place just wasn't clean! It was 11 in the morning so had only been open an hour. I went to the loo. It was disgraceful ! Loads of used hand towels in a basket next to the basin( not a basket on the floor, it was right next to the left hand tap!), and the toilet I used, ( not the disabled one) was awful. Faeces sprayed up the bowl, the seat not clean etc. It should be the first thing, other than the kitchen, to be cleaned every day, or last thing at night. This is a food outlet! They were very busy and I am sure they were understaffed, but a lady was walking out, as we walked in, muttering that she was standing waiting to be served, while the people behind the counter were chatting and ignoring her! The tables were covered in crumbs and the tray our food was delivered on was not clean. Our food was good, but all I could think of was "what state is the kitchen in?" Very disappointed. Not good enough.

What a rubbish cafe. Visited today and waited over 30 minutes for two panninies to arrive when customers who came in after us had their food within five minutes. I spoke to the owner but he couldn't care less about a complaint and said I had to remember they had had a busy week. No apology. Certainly won't be going again. Longhorn Farm Shop just down the road have just started serving lunches which are excellent.

We visited the garden centre and cafe on the bank holiday weekend. There is limited disabled parking at the entrance. The garden centre had a good selection of plants and gifts at reasonable prices with some plants reduced in price. The cafe had a good selection of homemade food but quite expensive. There is free water on offer as well as a selection of hot drinks.

I had expected a more diverse range of food on offer for lunch than jacket potatoes and filled rolls etc. I selected the egg and ham special which was ok but for a cafe with few customers the service was rather slow. OK but not somewhere I would rush back to.

I have been here many times and sadly it has gone downhill. The refurbished interior is very pleasant, but the menu is now limited to quiche, panini, soup and jacket potatoes, plus breakfasts pre 11.30. Formerly the kitchen was producing a range of very well cooked and delicious specials using local ingredients and often fish or Mediterranean inspired, so healthy too. Today I have a tuna jacket potato, standard stuff, with only a tablespoon of filling plus some green salad and no homemade coleslaw. At 9.95 this was poor and we had a long wait despite the place being half empty. Table service was somewhat brusque too and our plates weren’t cleared. There are better places for a simple lunch, I hope the really good cooking returns soon.

Altamente recomendado

A pleasantly informal café at the back of the excellent, family run garden centre in Oakington. Until recently it was a bit noisy, but this has been sorted with sound absorbing panels which hang from the beams. The food is freshly made daily, and yes, they do run out of stuff occasionally, but you can't have everything. At least it is made on the premises and is fresh. The scones are delicious, as is the top quality hot chocolate, the best available anywhere. Another plus is 'no chips', so no lingering smell of hot oil. The staff work really hard and are nearly all cheerful, efficient and pleased to see customers. The café needs wifi, though. Well worth a visit.

We love this place, it is our second home! This is a lovely café at the back of Oakington Garden Centre, on the Dry Drayton Road just before you get to OAKINGTON from the A14. Although it can get busy and a little bit noisy at times, The Olive Tree Café has a friendly, calm, informal atmosphere, complimented by the fact that it has no passing traffic and looks out onto an enclosed courtyard garden at the back with an olive tree as the centre piece. On sunny, warm days, our offspring can walk around and play in the courtyard whilst we eat our lunch or enjoy tea and cake. Whilst I would not say that this venue is necessarily a haven for mum's with buggies (there isn't much for the children to do, apart from post gravel pebbles down the drainage in the courtyard on sunny days), there are high chairs for those with babies and toddlers. There is a nice little selection of books and gifts and cards on sale too, with a strong emphasis on local suppliers: aromatherapy products made in Boxworth and cards designed by a local lady who is self taught.Generally the food is good, home cooked style fare. It is freshly prepared, much of it on site. Only the cakes are made off site however by someone local (the venue said) and the quality does certainly confirm that, and there is almost always a good variety including sometimes some quite unusual and delicious combinations (sorry I can't think of any at the moment but I promise you there are!).The hot chocolate is EXCELLENT, one of the best brands I've come across, and made with real chocolate, and with a choice of milk, white or dark chocolate. There is a choice of either standard tea bag tea or (for a few pennies more) Tea Pigs, latter which are excellent. We have been here for lunch at the weekend and even though we have arrived on the earlier side (even 12.30) at times one or two dishes have sold out. Sometimes we have lost out, sometimes we have been the last in the line to get the coveted dish, whatever it was on that day, usually it is the turkey or chicken option or similar. Whilst I completely understand the need to be mindful of cost for both venue and punter, and the need to keep the food good and fresh, and so on, I have seen so many disappointed customers and been one myself on at least a couple (perhaps even a few?) occasions, this has made me wonder if the venue could benefit from some help in identifying strategies to work out how many portions they need of each roast at the various times of year. There is also wine by the glass and beer on sale which is a nice little 'extra' for what is essentially a café which also sells lunches. You can book a table for lunch, including for special occasions and or just to have a meal with family. We have done this ourselves in the past and been very happy with the food and service received. You can even discuss in advance the menu etc. if you have a sizeable party of people. On the subject of service, we have always found everyone here to be helpful and friendly and willing to listen, and those running the café genuinely take pride in what they do and are committed. Whilst the lunch fare is not what I would call amazing it is as I said good and healthy. Please note that I have written to Trip Advisor direct to advise them that at least four of the six reviews before my review now seem to be for a Greek restaurant in central Cambridge, probably (though I have recommended to Trip Advisor that they make their own investigation and research) The Olive Grove on Regent Tree. I am sure that this was a genuine error on the part of the reviewers, and just a muddle because of the names being so similar, however I am very much hoping for the sake of both venues (and to help future visitors!) that Trip Advisor can untangle the confusion.
