This is our family ‘go to’ for Italian and it ticks everyone’s boxes - all 3 generations! Lovely, relaxed atmosphere, very friendly and attentive service with just the right balance to keep over 80’s feeling pampered, and simply delicious food, time after time, that keeps the rest of us very happily replete! A belated Thank You, as have been meaning to write a review for some time.

Amazing food, staff and atmosphere. Not cheap but worth it, all super fresh and such a nice warm reception from the staff.

We were visiting the area for the weekend and found this place on a well known search engine. Even though we arrived at the beginning of service, it was already busy. We hadn’t booked, but were offered the ‘emergency’ table which was tucked away at the back but perfectly acceptable. All the staff who served us were impeccably friendly and efficient. The food is fantastic - we had a delicious antipasto platter to share, followed by pasta for me (generous helpings of creamy yumminess), and pizza for my husband - freshly baked sourdough base with a generous and sizzling hot topping. No wonder the place is so busy!

First time at this lovely restaurant, nice atmosphere , food was just delicious and great service from lovely staff , will definitely return .

Normally closed on a Tuesday, but as it was Valentines Day it was open, we booked it as soon as we saw the reviews. Lovely friendly staff and nice, warm welcome. We ordered Anchovy & Pigeon starters; Mafaldini with Duck Ragu & Pork Escalopes main courses; dessert was Triste di Dolci (all 3 of the desserts in one dish) and a lovely bottle of Pinot Grigio. The food was fabulous! Highly recommend.

Just love this place, real Italian food cooked by a real Italian who obviously loves his craft. Excellent menu cooked when ordered, suitable for vegetarians. Excellent service and lots of time between courses (as in Italy). There is a very good choice on the menu from meats, vegetables and fish. We were both really impressed with the restaurant and have been back, can't wait to go again as it is so good. This is a family run restaurant who take great pride in producing their authentic dishes and it really is something they should be proud of, you really can imagine that you are dining in Italy, just fabulous.

The best pizza I've ever eaten in this friendly, welcoming, smart Italian restaurant, followed by the lightest tiramisu. A real gem, we'll definitely be back.

We ate here two nights running, booking the second after the success of the first. It's a super family run restaurant with great ambience and really friendly staff. The food is excellent. All freshly prepared to order, there is nothing out of a jar or a freezer pack here. The papardelle was exquisite, and the saltimbocca even better (if such a thing is possible). Night two we went for pizzas, and were not disappointed. Again everything was beautifully cooked with the freshest ingredients. In short this is one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever had the pleasure to eat in. Don't miss out - if you're in the area and looking for a place to eat don't hesitate to try here - it really is excellent. (P.S. Website is currently under redevelopment, so just ring and they'll do the rest).

Visited just prior to lockdown 2 and received a warm welcome, excellent service and wonderful food. Despite the restaurant being very busy, Gale and her assistant attended to everyone efficiently and always with a smile (despite the masks)! and despite their only being the two of them attending to the tables I felt that no one was left waiting, we certainly weren’t. Many other restaurant could take a leaf from their book when it comes to service. The food was excellent and if anyone ever tells me they don’t like liver I’ll be sending them straight to the Olive Tree to sample the Ox liver which was cooked to perfection. Many thanks for a lovely evening.

The quality of the food was excellent and the restaurant had a warm atmosphere. Unfortunately, despite booking a full week in advance of our visit, we were seated towards the rear of the restaurant near the kitchen door. This had the effect of diminishing our experience, particularly as we had difficulty at times in attracting the attention of staff when requesting drinks.

This was my 1st visit in over 15 years and I have to say, it was worth re visiting. Very well set out for current situation, great service and lovely quality food which was well presented. Merlot was very nice too. I would recommend a visit.

Came on holidays to Norfolk for a few days and had a chance to have a dinner at The Olive tree, Bungay. What a fantastic place! Been greated and made very welcome on arrival. Beautiful, cosy Interior. service and food 10 stars. We recommend this restaurant without any doubt.

This ticks ALL the boxes for us. Second visit, food as good as first. A restaurant you can really relax in and where they clearly value your custom. Nice lighting, tables well spaced. Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in the area. ps The cooking restored my faith in Italian cooking in the UK which I had steadily being going off.

Unfortunately given the reviews we were expecting quite a lot from this restaurant. The food was good but nothing remarkable. The service was brisk at ordering drink and food but we asked twice to have some more water for the table alas it never came. As we ordered only one desert it was their suggestion that they would give us another spoon to share - again we waited then gave up and used the one they gave us. You have to drive to get there , it is not cheap so overall disappointed - there were better restaurants closer. Maybe it was a bip on the day but would not return.

What a lovely experience. Proper Italian food. Amazing pizza and the pigeon starter (which I had as a main) was absolutely fantastic. We sat in the bar which was very busy even on a weekday. The only downside is the Drinks are quite pricey and there was quite a delay waiting for our bill as waiting staff didn’t have a clear view of our table. We will certainly be back and maybe sit in the restaurant this time

We always get a very friendly welcome in this family run restaurant and bar. We have eaten there 3 or 4 times over the past few years with friends and the food and service has always been excellent. On our last visit most of us had the fillets of sea bream, very generous portions, perfectly cooked. One small quibble, we think it is a little expensive compared to other places serving similar quality food. But still highly recommended .

Ate here last night with friends - it is on our doorstep yet we had not heard of it! We have been missing out! A wonderful, friendly and warm welcome awaited us as we entered and this did not change throughout the evening - we were made to feel very welcome and the service was absolutely great. We loved the ambience and the restaurant, with its two little woodburners was cozy and very comfortable. The food was great - one of our guests had literally just returned from Naples and said that this food was better than she had eaten over there!!! A good choice, fresh and very tasty - and of course all delivered with a friendly smile! Think this might become one of our firm favourites - in fact we are returning next weekend for their pizza and quiz night!

Saw this on Trip Advisor. It did not disappoint. Pretty building with small car park but we got parked on local street. Lovely warm red walls and curved brick bar. Interesting selection of original art. I particularly liked the paintings in the back part of the restaurant. All food was freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. I had linguni alla genovese with minced pork and beef. My partner had chicken with goats cheese, peppers and tomatoes served with saute potatoes. He pronounced it excellent. As did our companions. Desserts including ice creams were all home made which is unusual these days. My dessert was substantial and rich. Good coffee. Bread and oil to start. Only problem was chair cushions which felt a bit uncomfortable so went home with a bit of a stiff back.

Restaurant looks like it needs a lick of paint, quiet night so sadly no atmosphere, had Gnocchi and all stuck together with the cheese - I would say it looked like it had been microwaved - it was listed as home made and I'm sure it was but I received this as a bowl of pasta stuck together - not good - real shame as had gone many years ago and had a fabulous night. My friend's spaghetti with prawns looked better,

Can’t recommend highly enough!Booked very last minute whilst on a weekend break nearby. Squeezed us in without complaint and really well looked after all evening. Super friendly staff, excellent menu and great tasting food. Good value too. Lovely atmosphere, really cosy restaurant. Happily whiled away the evening here.

We came here on a Saturday night while camping and although it was very full we were served quickly, the staff were lovely and the food excellent. Generous portions meant we didn't have room for dessert but the starters and mains were great. We had the antipasti starter shared and then the spaghetti, penne and gnocchi for mains, all very tasty!Definitely book ahead as the place is quite small and very popular. If we're ever in the area again we would definitely return.

Staying at a local campsite, we decided to venture, in the rain, to The Olive Tree. We were not disappointed. Warm, cosy ambience with works by local artists on the wall. Glad we booked as the place was heaving and obviously very popular!I had the ‘house favourite’, a spaghetti dish with prawns and fresh tomatoes, which was delicious. Unfortunately my partner was brought the wrong chicken dish. BUT! This also turned out to be delicious and as recompense the delightfully friendly and welcoming staff offered us a free carafe of house wine. We were so full there was no room for pudding and we had a great time and were fully recharged for the walk home! If you are in the area, definitely check this out, you won’t be disappointed.

We love coming here, the food is always terrific, the ambiance is great and I can honestly say we have never been disappointed

A really welcoming feel and excellent food. A strange thing to mention but I am not a fan of hot air hand dryers and was happy to go find a pile of hand towels to use. A perfect way to prevent waste. Use and place in a box to be washed.

Used to come here a lot but then we had children so eating somewhere special like this is now a rare occasion. Visited one Thursday evening and the restaurant was surprisingly busy. Ambience same as before - cosy and pleasant. Service, as before, excellent. We shared a platter to start which was very good. I then had a pizza (couldn’t resist!) and I have to say it was proper Italian style. Haven’t had a pizza this good ever in this country. You can tell the chef is a true Italian! My husband had a dish off the ala cartel menu which was also excellent. A nice choice on the menu all round. We had an Italian white wine which was also delicious.

This was my 3rd visit here in as many years and I am happy to say it was as good as previous visits

A friend and I popped in on a Thursday evening for supper and it was fantastic. The service was warm, welcoming and friendly. A great menu with lots of options. We both had pizzas which were delicious, a glass of wine and a good cup of coffee to finish. I was really impressed. Lovely and cosy inside too. We'll be back!

Went with 7 others on a regular reunion on a Wednesday night and was not disappointed. The food and service are excellent. I had mussels to start and the loin of pork in Marsala and both were superb. Others has fresh anchovies, Barbary duck, Lamb rump and the biggest Steak I have seen for some time! All superbly presented and enjoyed. Highly recommend this restaurant.

On a quiet midweek evening in autumn the welcome was warm and friendly and matched by the atmosphere. Despite running front-of-house by herself, our host Gail seemed to have time to for a chat with all the customers, yet service was perfectly timed, neither rushed nor slow.

Just a review on the drinks prices - well they were just outrageous. Never again for me, the prices are way above the regular pub / bar prices.

When we went to The Olive Tree it was simply because we were staying at a nearby campsite and it was pretty much the closest place we could walk to to get food. That being said, we were SO lucky that this was our closest restaurant because we had an amazing experience!

We eat here regularly and the food and wine are always superb, all freshly cooked, and the staff are amazing always providing first class service. Highly recommend trying this taste of Italy in Norfolk.

Have eaten here in the past and it was was delicious and its great to go back and still find it as good as ever....down to the lovely couple who run it with the perfect balance of lovely food,fair prices and great customer care. An anniversary meal out in a little more out of the way location in a quiet village. It was pleasant, the service good and the food ok but was not particularly noteworthy. I didn’t feel that I would make the effort to return, as for me it didn’t have that something special to make me do so.

My husband and I met some friends here last Saturday evening to celebrate my husbands birthday.

My first visit to the area for a number of years. Delighted to see the same lovely owners, fantastic food and ambience. I won't be leaving it as long before I return next time!

The Olive Tree is always excellent. Over the years this wonderful restaurant has continued to provide outstanding service and excellent food.

Belgium is the place where you expect to find excellent restaurants in small villages - not Norfolk but this is the exception to that rule.

My parents live in the village and we go a few times a year with them (last night being the most recent for my Mother's Birthday).

Evening meal in July the food, service ad hospitality was perfect. We have eaten different dishes each time we visit this restaurant and we cannot fault any of them absolutely delicious, this is a restaurant that can be recommend to family and friends. The Italian chef makes all his own sauces, pasta and fresh bread which can be bought at the restaurant, his English wife is a really lovely person.

What can I say the place is perfect. The staff are so attentive, the food speaks for itself fresh flavoursome local food cooked to perfection by a real Nepalese Italian. I ate the most delicious seabass with perfectly cooked vegetables and sauté potatoes to die for. We took our French family with us who have three daughters under 10 and our son who is six. They couldn't be more accommodating. This is a great place to go for a family celebration or even a Romantic dinner for two. You won't get better Italian anywhere else around.

Good food but very costly. Far more than it is worth. It is only a pub that does decent italian grub, not exactly fine dining. The bill will set your hair on fire!

What a great place to eat. The welcome was cordial and there was house bottled water on the table in a flash. The very best part of this wonderfully run restaurant is the delicious food. The ravioli was homemade as was the beautifully fresh tomato sauce, the lamb was wonderfully tender with ample delicious gravy and the only thing that let it down was the slab of cabbage, tasty but not pretty. The wines were perfect and service just right.

We ate here twice during a four day satay. Did the Friday evening tapas menu which was very good , something quite different and great for trying different pastas, very filling. Didn't book a table the first night we went and were very lucky to get a table so would recommend booking. A good atmosphere and very good service.

We were on holiday near Bungay and decided to give this place a try based on the reviews. We had trouble finding it- it's not really in Bungay and although we enjoyed it, we felt we would have preferred to have eaten in the more casual bar area than the restaurant which was more like a tea room.

Pizza and pasta is freshly made, looks really good, but the stars of the show are the fresh fish dishes of whole baked sea bream or fillets of sea bass with salad and veg. Great gluten free dining and a lovely warm, welcoming environment. Well worth a visit as a treat (it is fairly priced buy not cheap).

Recommended by friends and not disappointed. Took a while to find the place but when there, made to feel so welcome. Very cosy, very friendly. Brooklyn beer on tap - only time outside of NYC that I have seen it which was an added bonus although driving so limited to one. Menu not huge and as non fish eaters - maybe a little limited but we both found a dish we liked, me a steak and the better half a chicken dish - food was just out of this world. Cooked beautifully. Steak was huge (dogs had a little left over as a take out). Great starter of cold meat and mozarella - just like holidays in Tuscany. The staff were attentive and friendly, like eating in someone's dining room in super surroundings. We'll be back very soon - cannot recommend this little Italian / Norfolk gem highly enough!

First time visitor on 1st April for a birthday treat, but will absolutely not be a last time visitor!! We love going to Italy on holiday and just from reading the menu we could imagine ourselves back in Sorrento. The food and wine were both delicious, and the service was warm, yet unobtrusive. We were there for dinner and were there for around three hours, so we didn't feel rushed. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic Italian meal. I am just sad that I didn't know this place was here sooner!

We have been to this restaurant several times and it never disappoints us it just gets better each time we eat there, we have been there with family and friends even our friends from Italy said it was excellent food, the owners are very courteous, polite and make everyone feel very welcome they are very accommodating, I can highly recommend this restaurant.

We wanted ~Italian food to celebrate our wedding anniversary but could find nothing local. We believed the reviews and decided the hour long journey might be worth it. It was! There was a lovely warn welcome and the food was super. One of the very best meals we had had in a long time. Pasta for me...of course The food was very hot and very tasty, served with a smile. We have to go back again as the choice was good there was lots we couldn't sample. What a brilliant evening!

This very pleasant restaurant is only down the road from me and been open for 18 years and yet never been. Dont know why. Atmosphere was just right. Tables not too close, waitresses very good. Food I thoroughly enjoyed and would certainly go back. Not cheap but I don't mind that if I get good food and we did. Very tasty.We went because Gluten Free as well. This was only downside as my son did suffer next day with his stomach. Could only put this down to richness of the food. Again though this to one side I will certainly go back and have already recommended to some of my friends.

This was our first time at The Olive Tree and won't be our last! The welcome you get from Gail and her Husband (chef) Rafe is very warm and adds to the overall experience. The food quality is superb with delicious flavours and great presentation. The quantity was also very generous. We look forward to returning and sampling more delights from the very tempting menu.

Fast road between Diss and Lowestoft means you fly past tge bypassed villages of Ellingham and Kirby Cane.Well look out for this place, thd old Bird in Hand pub is now the Olive Tree serving first class Italian food at a fair price (desserts a bit expensive, but very good).Nice selection of British and Italian beers and Aspall Cyder on draught.Interesting menu, with authentic home made not just home cooked choices.Happy to return, when next in the area.

We hadn't heard of this place before but went with friends who recommended it. Excellent. Friendly & very good food. Loved the atmosphere & would come back again.

Our SatNav had difficulty in taking us to the Olive Tree, but I'm pleased we found it eventually. Pleasant light interior and a warm welcome from the owner and his wife. Our Pasta dishes were perfect and I would say that the owner/chef takes great pride in what he serves his customers. Very tasty and filling, unfortunately we had no room for pudding.

I came here with my partner as a treat from my mum and her partner. They have been many times before and said how much they love it. It was just lovely! Everything from the minute we walked in was just perfect. The lady serving us, who I presume was the owner was just so sweet and lovely. And very informative about the menu. We shared a veggie antipasti and a meat one and both were so good. Fresh, flavoursome and just enough for a starter. We all had different mains that were cooked perfectly. My partner had the steak which was huge! And my duck was beautiful! Everyone said how lovely their different main was. We even shared a few desserts as we couldn't resist the sound of them! Extensive and very good wine menu too. Everything was just perfect! Thanks for a lovely evening, we will definitely be back :)

Fantastic Italian food and a great hostess, really friendly staff, food was fantastic. Really enjoyed our evening with our friends who have never been to this restaurant and they loved the meal too.

A visit here was long overdue and well worth the wait. A lovely atmosphere and welcoming aromas from the kitchen. The food here is truly wonderful fresh tasty and perfectly cooked we were lucky enough to get the zuppa di pesce which was as wholesome as it was tasty. Other members of our party had the duck and lamb which gave me food envy.I would recommend this gem to all and can't wait to go back to make up for lost time.

A spare of the moment meal out took us to this little gem. Though a first glance at the menu pricing seemed a bit expensive, the meal was certainly worth every penny. The authentic Italian dishes didn't take long to arrive after ordering and were beautifully presented, the quantity was just right. Although we skipped having a starter, the ones we did see that others had looked equally delicious and well presented. We didn't really need a dessert but could not resist one. It was well worth the over indulgence.The staff were attentive and the service was efficient. The bread and dip on arrival was a nice touch.

Great atmosphere, the place was absolutely packed and one did feel a little hemmed in.The service at the bar and table was very attentive without being OTT.The food was excellent and our party of four all had various dishes, all were very pleased with the food.Would visit again.

We love the Olive Tree. We love the whole place, the Italian food, the wine and the atmosphere. Gail and Raffe and their staff are always welcoming and efficient. The food is always fantastic and we are great fans of their Friday evening menu of antipasti and three types of pasta for £15 per head. Great value. The a la carte menu has a good variety and there is always a specials board too. The deserts are to die for especially the pannacotta.

Went for a celebration meal with a group of friends. Quite an intimate dining room and friendly atmosphere. Service was good without being rushed . The menu offered a comprehensive range of staters, main and desserts. Steak, chicken, pork and two fish specials was on offer. On arrival the food was well presented, tasty and well cooked. The rib eye steak, in particular, was very tender and cooked to perfection. A very pleasant place to go for an enjoyable meal !

Took my 9 year old pasta loving daughter here for her birthday and she says it was the best pasta she has ever eaten! She ate an entire adult portion!

Delicious dinner here a couple of nights ago - a generous board of mixed cured meat antipasto followed by delectable pork saltimbocca alla romana, too full for pudding but did manage a limoncello. A warm welcome, fantastic service with advice on wine and a lovely atmosphere. We'll be back as soon as possible!

Celebrated a birthday here. 5 of us. Great service, great food. Friendly staff. Atmosphere is great also. Parking is a bit of a pain as the car park is small and on a busy weekend night you have to part near by on the road but not a problem we had a lovely evening and would go back for sure.

We haven't been out on Valentine's night for years so as I've been away I thought I'd make the effort and try our local Italian The Olive TreeI booked it on line and had a quick response 7.00pm Sunday it was to be !!We arrived a half an hour late which is ridiculous as we only live a mile away but we seem to be late for everything these days must be age !We were warmly welcomed by Gail the owner and we had a brace of wonderfully presented industrial sized pre supper gin and tonics whilst we sat in front of a cosy open log burner looking through the specially created Valentine menu .I chose the liver one of my childhood favourites and it certainly didn't disappoint !!In fact it was the best I'd had for many a year ,good portion ,cooked to perfection and was a superb accompaniment for the robust Barolo we were recommended by the host I asked for spinach only and it was perfection The current Mrs Jones had the sea bream fillets again a healthy portion for a growing lass!!Mrs Jones also shared a fresh crisp salad with myself and the wall as the tomatoes were a bit lively We saw the desserts coming past us from the kitchen and they looked tremendous and totally indulgent but we managed to hold ourselves back on this occasion As it was a special occasion we had cocktails I had a expresso martini expertly mixed and presented and my wife had a Amoretto followed by more red wine while chatting to our hosts Gail and Rafe who are superb Very warm and friendly and we feel like part of the family already!Nothing is to much trouble and they are both very relaxed doing a marvellous job I would not hesitate to take any of our friends here and couldn't recommend highly enough to anybody who enjoys quality Italian food and wine to try it out ASAP!We also took out pizza for our sons waiting at home and again very impressive !none of that mass market robo pizza that the big boys knock out lacking any of the love and charm from the foothills of the Tuscan mountains that we found in our little parcel of Italian tradition on our arrival home !We will be back very soon........

We were warmly greeted on arrival and then advised that a party would be coming in and would we prefer to be moved to a quieter table. We stayed where we were and the party was not problem but we thought it good customer care to ask. The quality of service continued throughout the meal with attention but not overbearing. The menu is not huge but adequate and the food was outstanding with a wonderful blend of flavours and clearly freshly prepared. The cost was very reasonable and no hesitation in recommending this to others

Gail and Raffi are the perfect hosts. Always a warm welcome and the restaurant itself has a cozy atmosphere. I can thoroughly recommend everything on the menu but my favourite starter is pigeon. I also noticed that pizzas were being collected for a takeaway service. This restaurant is a gem and if you are in the Beccles and Bungay area it is definitely worth a visit.

We have been here a few times and took our father in law and 2 children 3yrs old and 1 year old tonight.The Olive Tree is well presented from the outside with parking in the small village of Ellingham just outside Bungay.As you walk into the door you are greeted with a warm welcome by the owners and staff and italian music playing subtly in the background. With an array of art on the wall fresh roses on the window ledges this place has a warm homely feel with comfy seating by the open fire and a traditional pub charm still present.I am a VEGETARAN I do not eat meat or fish and I WAS catered for there are options for me on the menu and once I mentioned being a vegetarian I was offered even more suggestions of things the Chef/ owner could make for me.All food is fresh and flavoursome you would expect this level of cookery skill in a top end resturant in London we are extremely fortunate to have it in such a rural area it Truely is a HIDDEN GEM.The owners are not only attentive and prompt with service but appear to be in love with their business and extremely hardworking.Their was a gentleman serving tonight and he was fantastic also extremly polite ,professional ,and well presented.Our children enjoyed fresh italian pizzas which looked and tasted buona (we had to try a piece for them) .me,partner & father in law had pasta dishes I had a lovely goats cheese filled ravioli in a tomatoe and pepper sauce packed with flavour big portion really enjoyed it .My partner had a duck pasta dish and my father in law had a mussel pasta dish they were very impressed also.For dessert the kids had a scoop of amazing italian icecream whilst me and father in law had a capresse (italian chocolate and almond cake) similar to a chocolate brownie which came with a scoop of icecream mmmm was delish!It has Wheelchair accessibility & is very Child friendly.They have a lovely bar with a good selection of drinks and handmade bread loafs for sale (it looked so good we had to purchase one).It was busy tonight but was NOT loud or noisy .they also have pizza night on Thursdays were you can get a takeaway pizza for collection just call before hand . WE WILL BE BACK AGAIN :)

Wonderful food, hosts and atmosphere! Always made welcome and not rushed. The food has always been excellent with a choice of Italian cuisine to kill for.

Decided to stop somewhat on the way home last night, first venue closed, servings venue had no free tables so we are at the Olive Tree. We had a lovely meal, the chicken breast, complete with wing bone was so soft and juicy (how did you do that) No I still don't really like aubergine, ho hum I still ate it. OH had Barbary duck, lots of it in a sauce. Pinot Grigio was rather nice with a honey undertone. It is such a good job we don't live within walking distance.

Proper food served in generous helpings by friendly people. Wish I could afford to eat here more often.

We went here to celebrate a friends birthday and after reading the reviews I can agree with what they have put.A very warm and welcoming arrival and the table had been arranged as a 5 not a 6. The food selection is small but they do have specials available. The quality and quantity of food was great

Recommended to us by friends and it proved to be an excellent choice. Outstanding food and we were made to feel very welcome. We will definitely be back!

Nice Restaurant. Quite expensive. Limited menu if you don not eat meat or fish. Owners very friendly.

Lovely home cooked fresh food! I ordered the king prawn pasta! One of the best pastas I have eaten! Staff were really helpful. Prices of meals were abit high, but I expect to pay high prices when the food is so good! Will defiantly be coming again :)

I am Italian and I have been to many "Italian" places around Norfolk and Suffolk. I was really disappointed until I found this place. I would like to say that this is the best Italian place you can find in the area. Real Italian food and the family is lovely. Enjoy your meal or better Buon appetito.
