Had this recommended whilst staying in the area. Went as four adults and two children. Very nice establishment with good ambience, decor and surroundings. Food and service excellent and wouldn’t hesitate to go back again.

Underwhelming. Quality of food could have been better . A screeming child didn't support the ambiance of a nice restaurant . Why would anyone bring a baby out for Sunday lunch ?

I was being treated to this meal by a friend and I chose the Olive Branch. Staff was initially very friendly and helpful. The first courses were over large but tasty. For main course we both had calves liver, potato and celeriac mash with peppercorn gravy. The liver was overcooked, the mash lumpy and the gravy glutinous with far too many peppercorns. We pointed this out and were left with the impression that we obviously didn't know how liver and peppercorn gravy should taste. We didn't mention that the green vegetable medley (£5 per serving extra] was watery and overcooked lest this was also the way it should be. We didn't bother with dessert.

We are here now on a dine and sleep package to celebrate a special anniversary. So far. .. room is lovely . Meal and service really poor. I mean... the prices they charge!! For things you would expect as part of a meal.. eg. veg. £5.00 for a few greens. Oh.. and we are here for breakfast but when I ticked the box for cereal ... lady said... we have no cereal Hello. ALDI down the road. Co op nearby. Ocado delivers. The prices you charge... and there's no cereal. Am so disappointed I could cry.

It was our first visit and general impression is very good. At first we were seated extremely close to the fire place (practically in it 🤭) next to a very noisy extended family. We requested a new table and they were very happy to oblige. The food was nice & tasty and plenty of it. All staff members were extremely polite and helpful also waiting time wasn’t too long. Our only criticism would be the lack of ambience in that dining area. Will definitely return to hopefully experience the outdoor facilities for a nice summer afternoon.

What a disappointing visit, the Sunday Roast was completely underwhelming, the plate was thrown together with 70% veg, 3 small roast potatoes, a huge Yorkshire pudding to substitute the lack of other ingredients, cheap slices of packet beef and lamb and veg thrown on the plate. The most overpaid experience I have ever had dining, if your a panda you might like it but we doubt it, won't be recommending to anyone we know and definitely won't return.

Wow the food was delicious I had the special which was strips of fillet steak in a sauce with mushrooms, veg and mash cooked perfectly. The pies and roast dinners were also very good. The only downside was you only got one bit of broccoli, could have done with more veg. Kids menu also good my daughter had the strips of chicken with chips and peas. We did question the bill as we had ordered 2 pies off different menu’s which looked and tasted the same but one was £7 more expensive, they sorted this for us but don’t understand why have 2 menus with pies on with such a big price difference? Yes it is expensive so couldn’t come regularly but definitely a nice treat I will be back again. Staff friendly and attentive

Booked to go again for Sunday lunch following a lovely evening a couple of weeks ago. I have had chance now to read a few past and previous reviews, they actually bare no resemblance to my experience which was first class, in every way. The staff were attentive, the service was very good, the food was spot on, the beer was good, all of this has made us book again for Sunday lunch and bring more friends with us this time. I hope we have the same experience as last time as I couldn't actually fault it.

What can I say but Thankyou to Charlotte and her wonderful team - we had our wedding breakfast here back in April and it was completely amazing in fact exceeded expectations! I had been extremely poorly with our first child the run up to the wedding and extremely limited to what I could eat - the chef provided me with a child portion of the chick nuggets which I have to admit wasn’t really what I had planned to eat on my wedding day - they also provided beautiful canapés for our guests on arrival. We had full run of the restaurant and the grounds My parents and I stayed here the night before the rooms were comfy and warm and the bathroom I had was fantastic. Anyone planning a wedding I highly recommend the olive branch the service is amazing

Went for Sunday Lunch to celebrate our 58th Anniversary. My Husband's main course was okay except he only had one vegetable which was nearly raw. He asked for surf and turf but was told there was no lobster left, or crab considering the restaurant had only been opened half hour before we got there. I had Roast Beef more than well done (no pink anywhere), the Yorkshire Pudding was black (burnt) the broccoli must have literally been blanched and there was no roast potatoes. Every time we have been here we have been sorely disappointed and overpriced .we would not have gone here if our Son seemed to like it and had bought us a £100 voucher. The meal cost £85 and I only had one glass of wine. We will not be going back.

I’ve been to the olive branch twice in the last month and each time has been disappointing. The first time the food was very mediocre for the price they charge. I had a hair in my meal and was spoken down to by the waitress. The second time I was charged 3 different prices each time I went to the bar for the same round of drinks. Each time it became more expensive! The service is slow and very aloof and we were squeezed into a corner where it was impossible to get out of unless the whole table got up out of their seats. Won’t be going back.

We have just returned from a holiday in Wales where he ate out ten times from small restaurants, hotels to Michelin star, but this is the worst. I can't believe that they add on the VAT only when you pay. The 'Special' - lamb - is on the board at £28.00 but makes no mention of the fact that it actually costs £33.60. And boy, isn't it poor value - over cooked until it is so dry I could not eat it all but I suffered that night. Over salted to get a crisp fat, it hasn't seen pink for many hours. Lumpy mash and one vegetable. Rather nice scallops strangled by tons of melted cheese and flooded with oil. I should have sent it back but I was hungry. I perfectly understand that restaurants are under great financial pressure but this is not the way to deal with it as we won't be going back. The menu is simply too big, the cooking isn't fresh, it's overdone, pre-cooked and not interesting. And you should be completely upfront with the prices. The ones who suffer are the staff -I just wasn't prepared seeing the VAT as normal to give a tip.

A real gem. Lovely traditional pub interior, with a variety of seating options, various areas that make it feel quite cosy inside. Three external areas, two terraces and garden seating all with a glorious view across the fields opposite. We stayed overnight in a very comfortable pleasant room with ensuite, tea-making facilities and TV. We ate dinner and breakfast, both of which were really good. The Three Ways Pork was simply fabulous - delicious. The whole meal was top class. Then we had the Port Taster consisting of 4 different ports. Again, these were really good; grape-based liquid velvet! Staff were all friendly too. The place was pleasantly quiet, not busy. Would absolutely recommend especially the evening food.

On arrival, we were welcomed in a friendly and professional manner and advised we could have wine or another drink instead (such as beer) if we preferred. We decided to have starters of mussels and goats cheese (at extra charge) and they were superb. We ordered the steak ‘rare’ and it was served cooked to perfection. It came with a basket of chunky chips, a couple of large sized onion rings and a sauce of our choice. The meat was the best we’d had for a long time - just melted in your mouth and so tasty. All the staff we met were young but well trained, friendly, professional and a credit to the business. We have visited The Olive Branch previously a few years ago and whilst the food was very nice it was quite pricey and the menu didn't seem to change. The sharing Cote de Beof that we had (which was a Groupn deal) was absolutely delicious and more than enough for the two of us, in fact we did leave some of the sides. The restaurant was very quiet, probably as we visited early but was cosy and welcoming. The lady that seated and served us was very friendly and polite. We noticed that they now do an earlybird menu midweek which is not overly priced, I think it was 2 courses for around fourteen pounds with a good variety of meals to choose from. Lovely decor and the food was fresh and cooked well, the staff were friendly but there was a serious lack of thought for the vegetarian options. Which included swapping prime meat for three plain mushrooms on the Sunday roast for example. It would of been nice if the vegetarian options were options (more than one per course) and if they didn't feel like a stingy after thought. Unfortunately due to this, we probably won't be making an effort to return, which is a huge shame - as I say everything else was brilliant.

I was taken to the Olive Branch by my wife for my birthday. We had been there on a works Christmas do a few years back and it was nice and had good atmosphere. We were warmly greeted and sat in the bar area to order our meal. We ordered Loch Fyne Queen Scallops to start. We were shown to our table and the starters arrived. Rubber midget gems on scallop shells covered in a salty greasy mush. Grilled under a blazing heat source, so much so that the sauce on the plate had turned a dark caramel colour. Some shells had two midget scallop pieces and some had just one. We just stared at the plates in shock. I went to the bar and explained that I had ordered Queen scallops and in fact there was nothing on the plate (identifiable or edible). The lady (manager maybe) said that scallops are small at this time of year! I suppose they must shrink in the cold weather I thought. She offered to provide more (they didn't arrive) but we tried them anyway and after much chewing of the tiny rubber erasers and the salty, greasy cheesy slush we decided to cut our losses and leave quietly. The lady said she couldn't understand our problem and they had been serving them for 25 years. Perhaps that's the issue possibly? Anyway I see on this website that there are images of scallops that actually look like scallops and not tiny bits of the desiccated shellfish we were served up this evening. We eventually found our way to the "Catch" in Holmfirth and had a terrific meal there. Any one reading this, do yourselves a favour. Just avoid the Olive Branch and spare yourself from the disappointment of being served poorly cooked scraps. If you take someone for a meal there, you might just need an olive branch to bring peace back to your relationship afterwards. Simply terrible!

Menus were given - no mention of any specials - three of us chose a Lamb main course and at the point of ordering we’re told it was ‘off’ and’sold out ‘ why can’t this be communicated when menus presented and alternative suggested? Food was ok - no better or worse than expected. Unfortunately - as with many, many establishments- the quality from the kitchen is not matched by the front of house. Yet another West Yorkshire Restaurant we will never visit again - despite the decor and ambience being good- this visit did not live up to previous visits ( at least 5 ).

We went with friends for a celebratory meal, the place is really cosy and the food is excellent. I love scallops and the scallops au gratin were very good, everyone enjoyed their food and the service was excellent. It is many years since we have been here and had forgotten how good the food is here, really worth a visit.

To celebrate a milestone birthday a trip to the olive branch was eagerly anticipated. However for £300. the experience was poor. We had to request for our order to be taken. We wanted 4 surf and turf, this was met with a curt reply there are only 2. Not I am sorry but we only have 2 left. The service was poor, plates had to be passed along.Dishes were plonked on the table. At no point did the waitress smile we were at best an inconvenience. The belly pork portion was tiny and the crackling was a lump of soft leathery skin not crunchy. Wine glasses had to sorted ourselves. Cheese was ordered along with a liquor but was forgotten. For the cost the meal was over priced , if I want self service I would go to Macdonald’s. If you are going to charge over the norm the service and quality must be good. Training of course staff is paramount.

As locals, the Olive Branch was we’re we used to go for a special occasion- a birthday, an anniversary or even on Christmas Eve. However our last couple of visits have really disappointed us. The prices have gone up yet the service has gone down. When paying £20-£30 for a main course I expect the order to be taken at the table not to ‘go to the bar’. Staff didn’t know what beer was on draft or what soft drinks they had. We had to go to the bar and peak over it to look for ourselves. The food, while fine, is not worth the price and not presented with the same care. If you pay £9 for mussels I’d at least expect a bowl to put the shells in. The staff are very young and while this isn’t an issue in itself, if you are paying these prices you need to have a certain level of service and this has definitely slipped. I feel quite sad since the Olive Branch was a place we really liked to go and we’re now a bit turned off.

We have passed The Olive Branch on many occasions over the years and have often said we would give it a try. At last we have and were not disappointed. The food was excellent as was the service. Nice vegetarian choices too, we will certainly add this place to our list of good places to eat.

Disappointment. My father in laws retirement dinner, gone terribly wrong. For a fairly expensive price, the food fell short of even a Weatherspoons. Wonderfully, convoluted sounding menu that after all was said and done, was overcooked and dry and not much different to an over-microwaved meal. The waitress was sloppily chewing gum all night and couldn't differentiate between a red or white wine. We were asked to "not quote her on it". Overall, unfortunately (because we really wanted to like it), we won't be returning again. It was a very busy and Michelin priced placed, that served a shockingly poor standard of food with untrained and too young waitresses that were totally inept to serve it. Really quite awful dry meat. Sorry and sad to say.

We had a great lunch here, from the al a carte menu. A superb fish and chips and a lovely soufflé. I wouldn’t usually go for a soufflé - more a steak and chips girl - but it sounded interesting so I gave it a go. Delicious!

We popped in spontaneously, because its just down the road from our new house. I had a delicious lemon sole and my wife had a soufflé, which she said was excellent. Neither came with veg, which was extra. We finished of with a fantastic cheese board each. Both of us had a crisp glass of pinot. This all came in at £76, which seemed rather expensive, but I can't fault the quality of the food.

We’ve been meaning to visit for some time but since we have small children it just hasn’t been possible. I can definitely say it was worth the wait.

What can I say, Good food and good service. Very well appointed inside, good choice of food, the beer (Blonde) was excellent. Couples, family, friends or by yourself. Well recommended.

Went for the first time for our dads birthday. Great service and amazing food. It is expensive for Marsden but it is certainly reflected in the quality of food. The staff were very polite and helpful and overall it was an amazing evening. I look forward to going back, after saving up some pennies :)

Our first visit to The Olive Branch, to celebrate a special occasion. The food certainly didn't disappoint and we enjoyed a very lovely meal. Everything was hot, well-presented, well-cooked and tasty. Our disappointment was more with the welcome (lack of!) and the initial service, although it did improve throughout the evening. On arrival, our booking was confirmed and we were told to get a drink and wait in the bar area. It was busy and I queued at the bar to get our drinks. Having finished them, I could see others with menus but we hadn't been given one. So, I went back around to where we had first come in, gave my name again and asked for a menu. The young waitress looked at me rather blankly and handed me 2 menus. I was hoping that at some point someone might explain the protocol and not just assume that we had been before and knew what's what! So, back in the bar reading the menu and another waitress went past. I explained that we had a table booked and asked if it was available yet (it was now 20 mins after our booking time). Off she went and seconds later another waitress arrived with a very tardy expression on her face and rather abruptly asked for our order. We hadn't actually fully chosen what we wanted but nevertheless placed our order. I think my questions to staff were misinterpreted as 'we have been waiting too long' when actually we just wanted someone to explain how the whole thing works. It isn't unusual to order from the menu once you have been shown to your table. How this restaurant does things is great but..you need to welcome new guests and explain how you do things! On this particular night there was a party in full flow and the bar was very busy and noisy. It felt like we had been shunted in to the middle of a party and forgotten about. We were then shown to our table and sat with no drinks. It didn't really feel like waitress service to the standard that I would expect when paying such a high price for food. We ordered drinks but they didn't arrive until after we had finished our starter. Service of the food was very good and all tasted first class. Dessert was equally yummy. Yes, we would go again I think because we now understand the set up but for the most part of last night, we felt rather unwelcome and uncomfortable. This is not something I've experienced in any other restaurant, ever!

We stayed here with 2 children while attending a wedding nearby. The room was lovely, well decorated, cosy and with a separate entrance to come and go as needed. We appreciated the refreshments on offer in the corridor and the mini bar. Breakfast was delicious and served mostly by a very pleasant and polite young lady. The only negatives were that the shower wasn’t great and difficult to use. Also there was some confusion over the room charge on checkout, we were charged £20 more than the price quoted on booking over the phone, which was annoying and not explained by the lady checking us out.

We have been to the Olive Branch before and saw that they have a Sunday lunch menu for £17 for 2 courses and £20 for 3 courses. So, after a long week we decided to treat ourselves. The location is fantastic and the staff are welcoming and open. There is a good selection of drinks and the place feels as though they have pride in what they offer. I had fish cakes and beef and my other half had the parfait and beef. The portions are generous and full of flavour. I then had the apple tarte tatin which is manna from heaven! Buttery pastry with caramel and toffee over the beautiful apples. I could eat another one now!! I highly recommend the Olive Branch.

My local. Great pub. As an ale and craft beer drinker, options are limited, but this is a village pub catering for everyone, so can't focus on one type of clientèle, so provides more options across all tastes, rather than just a more niche group. People are friendly as are the staff and you can see in the age range how this pub services its' community.

I visited Leggers for dinner and a drink to celebrate a birthday . The menu looked great and would have been if half of my main meal wasn’t cold . Chips and peppercorn sauce were tepid . I ask for my fillet steak rare and it was cooked through . Everyone else’s chips and sauce were cold too. My meal was changed without question and with a smile . I had the stew and dumplings , it was piping hot and very nice . It was quiet so I don’t know why the food was cold . The overall experience was good and the bar staff , especially Lydia were lovely and very friendly . I would have preferred to be able to buy a 750ml bottle of red wine rather than those little ones . All other colours of wine came in large bottles so don’t know why red didn’t . Would I go again? …. Yes but not for a celebratory meal . I may have expected too much from a pub . The meals that were coming out for other people looked lovely especially the Yorkshire pudding sharing platter , it was massive .

This was our second ‘family’ visit to this highly popular gastro pub based in Honley, near Holmfirth. We’d booked for four people but when five of us turned up, they very easily found a table big enough for us without any fuss. The drinks order was taken and delivered very promptly. The cask bitter from Wainwrights brewery was excellent and was the wine, gin and diet cokes! We orders pink sirloin of beef x 3, a venison and a pork…. All with Yorkshire puddings and vegetables with gravy. All came out quickly and piping hot. We had cheese cake for desert. All the food and service was excellent. The price was very reasonable too. We shall return. This place is highly recommended and hugely popular with a great atmosphere and great friendly staff! 😉👍
