What a fantastic little place, we arrived as a group of 8 covered in mud and starving and received a warm welcome. Cosy fire, super friendly staff (landlord cheerily taught my 6 year old son how to pour a pint) and vast menu. As a food teacher I’m a harsh critic but but the lasagne was one of the best I’ve ever had! Also highly recommend the fish pie and fish finger bap…we will absolutely come again - 10/10! Many thanks xxx

The Royal Oak was a fantastic stop on a very taxing ten mile snowy walk through the white peak. We were cold, tired and hungry when we got to the Royal Oak. The warmest of welcomes awaited, a fabulous coal fire (which dried all our clothes including scooby our cockerpoos coat! The food was all home made to order and very tasty. We all opted for home made soup and sandwiches followed by homemade sticky toffee pud - just divine! We could not recommend the Royal Oak and her staff highly enough. We all look forward to returning in better weather .

We were camping in the area for the week and sampling the local hostelries in the evenings after long walks during the day. I had pre-booked the Royal Oak a couple of weeks before and was not at all disappointed by the quality of the food and the tasty Isobar beer. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we returned later in the week to sample further items on the menu. The homemade enchiladas are large and tasty! Keep up the good work and we are sure to return when next in the area.

I would rate this pub a zero if possible… We came to this pub after a long walk around Wetton in the thunder and lightning. We order coffees and cakes and sat down and one of our friends had a salad pre packed because of his diet. We was then giving a dirty look by an old woman I guess was either the owner or wife of the owner. She rudely said “you cannot eat food in these premises” then proceeded to make comments as she was walking off. We continued to finish our drinks and then the chef came up to our table with shouting saying “you cannot eat that, I’ve been slaving away since 7am this is a restaurant, would you do this anywhere else?” The lady then said in passing “I hope you suffocate on that muffin” which was brought from the pub. Which is absolutely vile when we’re lining their pockets. We proceeded to say we’ve spent money here and we’ve only come for a quick drink and also mention how disgusting it was how they approached the situation instead of asking politely, to which we would’ve been more understanding. The chef actually came across as quite threatening and we felt very unwelcome. So we finished our drinks and left. Highly recommend avoiding this pub if you’re having a good day. This ruined our experience as a whole. What a shame..

Sunday Lunch - 18th Feb 2024 Booked in with Diane and Gary about 1 week prior for a birthday meal. We had a table of 17 people, which they were able to accomodate for perfectly. I was absolutely happy to pay £5pp deposit, and once we arrived we were greeted to a nice corner of the pub (which also didn't interfere with other diners), and great hospitality. The bar team were always on the ball with us, appreciated given the number. If we wanted drinks we could go to the bar and get them easily. Now to the food- again we had a big table so had to pre-book, but this was expected and fine! Within about 30mins of arrival food was served for us all- which was absolutely fantastic quality. The roasts in particular were very much enjoyed - beef slices cut very generously i must say! Everyone enjoyed and a great birthday was had - I'd absolutely reccomend for big groups and small! Diane and Gary were very helpful, straightforward to plan with via email and very hospitable on arrival. Couldn't have asked for more! Thanks again Sam

We stayed here for 4 nights over the New Year 2021/22 and were made welcome throughout. Our room was really comfortable and we were guaranteed a table in the bar for food and/or drinks each night. The menu was extensive with generous portions, and the...

We’ve been coming here for years and the service, atmosphere and food has always been super. Tonight I tried the new ‘Dirty Burger’ - beef burger, chick and halloumi. It was awesome!! We’ll worth a trip to this beautiful corner of the Peak District.

We were recommended this pub and it didn’t disappoint. Great selection of vegetarian food that was all freshly prepared and we were really impressed by the quality of the food. The setting was very welcoming with local beer, a log fire and a lovely family...

Lovely little family run pub in a quiet village near to fab walks. A typical pub menu BUT fantastic quality. Recommend the lasagne. Breakfast was HUGE so make sure you tell Wilma how much you want. Rooms a little small but clean and modern.

Popped in for some food while staying at alton towers. staff were welcoming and friendly . There are games for children to play. Unfortunately, the food was what let it down.

Lovely little gem. Good menu. The steak was delicious, the peppercorn sauce, a cut above. Excellent service from staff. Will be returning. Managed to get a table for two on walk in, however likely you would need to book.

Went past on our boat heading for Froghall, the following day we gave the Hollybush a call to book for dinner. Fabulous food amazing puddings and very friendly staff, who were amazed that we stacked our empty plates 😂 it’s what we do as we know it’s usually appreciated by staff and 3/5 of us have worked in hospitality! Would definitely recommend a visit and will hopefully return at some point in the future!
