Great pub and fantastic atmosphere old worlde and clean

We went for drink...what a lovely old pub. Going back to try the cheeses.

First time in this pub, didn't eat so can't comment on that but there was live music in a cosy little room which added to the atmosphere of the place, if you want a drink in a historic pub this is the place.

Don't find very many pubs like this any more. A true classic pub

Nice little old fashioned boozer. Beers on tap aren’t that exciting, but the Guinness is surprisingly good, and well looked after. Didn’t try the cask ales. There’s a wide variety of ciders. Wines are nice and plenty of cheeses to choose from. Will be back for sure.

Quaint and rustic pub in one of the oldest buildings in Coventry. Beer has been brewed here for centuries. The small and winding rooms with the very low ceilings give the pub a very special charm. The landlord is very friendly and open-minded. You feel completely comfortable here.

Great beers. If you visit the pork pie platter and cheese platter's are well worth an order

Este es un gran pub que he visitado en muchas ocasiones. Sin embargo, el sábado pasado, a mi amigo le cobraron £ 10 por una pinta y media de una de las cervezas en bomba manual. Le comenté que parecía un toque caro, pero optó por no preguntarle. Entonces fui a comprar otra media pinta de cerveza y me dijeron que eran £ 5! Desafié esto y me dijeron que habían cometido un error y que eran £ 2. 50 . Así que, dos sobre cargos en 10 minutos – solo ten cuidado es todo lo que digo.

Best pub in the city, hands down. Best kept beer/ale in Cov with a brilliant range... plus three proper fires, pork pies and ploughman's platters. Low beams and uneven floors... Long live the old windmill!

Nice old bar, staff were good. We only popped in for a drink on our night out, and would definitely visit again

Qué bar maravilloso. Como nos hemos encontrado preguntándonos por Coventry siempre encontramos algo nuevo, en este caso el antiguo molino de viento. Un verdadero tesoro y habitaciones maravillosas, personal amable, buena cerveza y una selección de tablas de queso. Sin duda volveremos a visitar la próxima vez que estemos en Coventry.

Primera vez que he utilizado este lugar, pero sin duda volveré, solo vine por los arado y definitivamente estaba bien satisfecho, gran personal apto para la comida perfecto 👌

Went here a couple of times whilst on a visit to Coventry in mid November and was impressed with the place. Rustic interior with timber frames and wood panelling, stood at the bar most of the time we were there I imagine it would be a bit cramped when it's busy as bar area is not the biggest. Nice atmosphere the staff were attentive and courteous and two local guys at the bar upon hearing me and my pals scottish accents made conversation with us which was appreciated. Will go here again if I'm in Coventry.

Una joya histórica verdaderamente maravillosa de un pub, a pocos pasos del centro de la ciudad. Visitamos el Old Windmill en un frío almuerzo de noviembre y estábamos realmente impresionados con todo; El personal amable, servicial y cortés, el bajo de excelente calidad y no menos importante, los deliciosos Ploughmans, que era increíble valor y de calidad excepcional. El queso y el pastel de cerdo eran especialmente deliciosos. Tres fuegos reales ardiendo lejos, definitivamente estaban ayudando a agregar (literalmente) a la calidez y el carácter de este hermoso establecimiento. Definitivamente volveremos pronto! Muy recomendable.

Excellent range of beers and good service... Unfortunately it no longer has the historic bubble glass windows in the front..

Visitó este pub virgen de varias habitaciones en Hallowe’en, y tuvo la oportunidad de disfrutar de la sala principal con vistas a Spon Street. Yo era el tipo que tomaba todas las fotos alrededor de las 6. 30 pm. Disfruté de Twisted Barrel Gigantic Ale y el amable personal me recomendó visitar la sala de reuniones de la cervecería, que terminé haciendo! La comida en barra se llena de lotes (rollos, mazorcas, baps, estotties), una variedad de platos de arado, platos de queso y pasteles de cerdo. He probado estos antes y los encontré muy satisfactorios, pero solo estaba bebiendo esta vez. Sin duda merece la pena una visita, incluso si solo por su historia. Recommended

The oldest public house in Coventry dating back to the 15th century with a great atmosphere. They have an excellent selection of real ales.

Personal amable encantador (especialmente Lily que sirvió nuestras bebidas). Un ambiente acogedor tan cálido con el fuego abierto y rincones y grietas. Grandes cervezas reales, cervezas lager perfectas y un plato compartido de arado por el que morir. Me encantó. Qué gran pub.

Very good timber-framed pub about fifteen minutes walk from Coventry railway station. Seven cask beers on handpump when I visited including a porter. A few tables outside at the front.

Proper pub with lots of charm. 10 minutes from the city centre flat walk. Plenty of choice of drinks, including real Ales which are changed on a regular basis. Great atmosphere, friendly staff.

Old Peculiar is served very well and goes great with the Ploughman’s as shown. Weekend live music from great local bands with music in keeping with the pub. Well worth a visit. Parking in the Skydome car park and walk through the Skydome.

Definitively the best pub in Coventry, hence why it's been around for so long. The age, aesthetic and solid selection of pints leads to just the best casual experience. The ploughman's and pork pies are flippin good

A wonderful pub, upon entering you're met with low ceilings, wood panelled walls, cosy little snugs, open fires and the beautiful smell of ale! The staff are amazing too! Quite possibly the best pub in the Midlands...

Ordered two Stella's and one neck oil the round came to to £18.20 very expensive infact to expensive.

Great pub, pint of Mild I had in there was one of the best, Think it is the oldest pub in Coventry, this pub should be a national treasure. 🍺Loved it.

I enjoyed going through the hatch.

The food was top notch, we had cheese boards. It was all good, the Snowdon ‘Black Bomber’ Cheddar and White Fox (White Leicester) were my favourites. The service was also top notch, friendly and prompt, the tea and coffee were really good. The building itself really is perfect, clean and so well preserved as a piece of Coventry heritage, it was lovely to see all the separate rooms / sections which made our meal a little more intimate and the music was just right, mixture of well known songs suitable for relaxing, chatting and eating lunch. Wood panelling and quarry tiles floors were so pretty. We had travelled from Essex and popped to Coventry on the way back from Wales, this place was such a good find!

Best pub in Coventry. Was within a gnats whisker of getting the Great British Pub of the Year award a year and a half ago. Great selection of real ales, always well kept. Cosy little nooks to sit in. It's also the oldest pub in Coventry - something they don't advertise, although they do advertise their other pub as the second oldest pub in Coventry. Maybe they didn't want to show off, but it's worth a visit just for the building and real pub atmosphere. I don't live in Coventry now but I've been coming to this place for years. It never disappoints. One of my all time favourite pubs.

Absolutely beautiful pub , fantastic staff can't do enough for you,food is absolutely amazing and presentation is excellent have been here many times as it's the best pint you can get anywhere.the landlady is amazing and the knowledge they all have about the local history on the pub is outstanding ☺️

Very cute old pub...it is a maze of wooden corridors and rooms with tables to discover. But host or whoever worked in there didn't do much to make the experience unique... It was a bit dull, maybe because it was the wrong moment of the day?

The atmosphere of the building is wonderful, it has lots of cosy rooms and the fireplaces are amazing in the cold weather! The service has always been friendly when I've been there and has always been very clean. It's great when they have live music and they also have other events during the day and throughout the month with their special ales and ciders. It has a varied age range of clients too, which I think shows it's a good place to be. Although they don't serve full meals as such, the cheese boards are to die for and a nice batch is always available 😊😊

A proper pub in the city centre, but has the feel of a traditional country local with a great selection of ales/ciders and very tasty pub grub. We need more pubs like these!!!

It's been 30 years since I had a drink in Coventry. And when I found this amazing old pub I was left wondering why. 100s of years old, friendly staff and locals, good selection of well kept ale at sensible prices, interesting background music..what more could you ask for? Wood panelled small cosy drinking spaces, open fire places and a menu of pork pies and cheese boards.. They do that as well. We will be back.

I took my brother ( who has Dementia and Alzheimer’s) there today to see the Hairy Folkers… they welcomed us with open arms and sincerely made my brother’s day… I thoroughly enjoyed it too! They allowed him to sing and I honestly was so humbled by their kindness… Thank you so very much. Jan X

Well kept beer, both regulars and guest ales, a warm welcome to one of the oldest and cosiest pubs in Coventry. Will absolutely be visiting again. Also, the pork pies are outstanding.

A fantastic old style pub in an old building. Pub has a few smaller rooms where you can sit and have a proper cask beer. They quite often do a mini beer festival and it's a top choice for real ale drinkers. When it's winter the fires are on and you get a nice warm cosy pub feel. Plenty of choice for beers in here and they are all kept well. The pub has won quite a few awards which says it all. Well worth a visit for a good drink, the pork pies for a snack are also excellent.

Lovely traditional inn at the heart of historic Spon street, excellent selection of beers with a nice atmosphere. Perfect for a pint after an ice hockey match at the arena.

A proper English pub, a few standard beers plus a few changing real ales. Still an excellent pub, best pint tonight for me, the Old Peculiar, but on another visit, I drank a few Oakhams Citra and Guerrilla Blue Monkey. The Windmill always has a dark beer or two on.

Didn't eat but atmosphere was brilliant

Couldn't rate this gem any higher. Definitely go and try their homemade pork pies & gorgeous cheeseboards. Very helpful staff ready to give advice from beers to cheese.

Great pub, friendly staff, fine selection of ales and a very tasty ploughman's lunch (other food available). Recommended.

This pub could be anywhere in the UK and it would get great reviews. A real 'Olde Worlde' ale house. Two fireplaces, low ceilings, hops and beer pump name plates adorn as decoration. Quirky rooms with ebony coloured panelled walls and not a straight line in the place. Staff on the night were super nice and very attentive. If you're into your ale/ciders there is a great selection so the CAMRA peeps amongst you will be kept happy. I was informed that the cheese sharing boards which looked huge are a must try. Clearly some thought has gone into the fantastically sourced British/continental cheese selection. No plastic cheddar or bland supermarket Brie here! Usual snacks and freshly made rolls at the bar for those who want to just nibble. Book club nights, cheese nights and music Fri, Sat and Sun. Music is live on a Sun with blues, jazz, new talent coming to the fore. The guy behind the bar is by all accounts a pretty accomplished musician in his own right so definitely a music lovers destination. I'll be visiting again, more than once. If you're in Coventry, seek The Old Windmill out. It really is worth making the effort

As pub interiors go, this place cannot be beaten - multi-roomed, beams to duck under, real coal fires, panelled walls - a true classic. There’s such a lot going on here as well, the room I’m sat in is reserved for the 📖 club tonight. Dates back to 1451.

We came here and it was so nice we came back the second night we were staying in Coventry! Really friendly staff and my husband had one of the cheese platters which was amazing- nicely presented and a good size! Would recommend

Lovely olde worlde place. Fire places with teal fires and hearths. Old dark wood beams and panelling and good ales. Also has rooms and snugs to have private conversations in. Thoroughly recommend it.

This is a lovely pub in the city. Cosy on a winters day with real fires you can just switch off and forget you ae in a busy city. The Ploughman's lunch was awesome with a real ale!

Goodness me, what an awesome pub! Was there for an after-theatre party with a couple of dozen cast and crew from the Belgrade Theatre panto. Great beer selection (Old Peculiar was particularly good), and the staff were just lovely. Highly recommended.

The medieval atmosphere is just stunning. People must drink a pint there at least once.

Had a little Coventry pub crawl, just this and nearby Hops D'amour. I'm not local and haven't been in every Coventry pub, but it almost certainly is the nicest with lots of nooks and crannies. My purpose as a cider ticker was to seek out a few I hadn't tried before. Although they had about 20 cider on, 17 of them were Lilley's. This cidery specialise in 4% so-called "fruit cider", that is proper apple cider diluted with other fruit, which makes them weak and usually too sweet. No doubt they would go down a treat at a teenagers party, but not for proper cider drinkers. More variety please.

This is such a good pub , probably the best in Coventry. The staff are lovely and there is a ‘feel good’ atmosphere throughout. Can’t visit as often as I would like though 😂
