The Old White Lion in Barnet

This place is like a home away from home for me. I have a little family here, and feel very looked after. Beautiful staff (and now friends), beautiful interior, and oh what a wonderful garden.... Thank you to all the staff... You know who you are! Love you!

I came in today for Sunday lunch with some friends. We loved the roast lamb special and was great! Also we had the apple crumble which was a great finish to the meal. Thank you to Emi for looking after us all aftwrnooon, we will definitely be back again for another Sunday roast!

A really nice friendly welcome for us and our 4 legged friend….good menu & beer choices. Was plenty of options too for vegetarians.

We had a delicious lunch at the pub after a lovely experience a few months ago. Great food. Really friendly staff and particularly liked the outside sofa space so will be returning for some sunny drinks again soon!

We had a great time, food was really very good, we enjoyed our lunch very much. We had the fish and chips, it was well cooked and the food was hot, tasted pretty good too! The staff were great, friendly and helpful. There is outside seating and with the lovely summer weather it was a great place to sit. We will be back.

It's a very cosy place where you can have few good drinks. The vibe is nice and people that are working here are amazing. We were assisted by Alice who is out of this world! KUDOS!

7 of us went to watch the football !.. brilliant night from the fantastic table we had to the great service from Aiden and his team and the food was delicious. Everyone commented how fresh and delicious everything was. I had the schnitzel with extra salad .. will have again. The pub is always welcoming and great value food and drinks ( although I think the portion for my Prosecco could have been more full or longer glasses… would be great..) wonderful night. I met a few friends here for the England vs Switzerland match and despite the great atmosphere I found the bar manager rather dismissive and rude. Her stance was very I can be rude to you and get away with it as opposed to I'm here to provide great customer service. The rest of the staff were lovely and helpful, but the lady who was identified as the manager behind the bar was despicable and gave myself and my friends such bad vibes unnecessarily so. As a business owner myself I'd be mindful as to the staff I hire as they are ultimately representative of me and my values. This lady was an absolute no no.

Arranged a surprise party for my wife’s birthday. Amalia and her staff were absolutely outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. We booked the room at the back of the pub which was perfect for 30 guests. Food was fantastic We picked the Platinum buffet and everyone commented on the quality and amount available. Can’t thank you enough for making it a brilliant day and would highly recommend you to anyone looking for a local venue. You will be seeing us again 😊

Very disappointing, what was advertised was not available. Apparently sold out. We showed up at 12.30 and they had sold out of the lunch lamb special which was odd as they were not any other customers in the restaurant, We were not allowed to sit at requested tables they were ‘reserved’ but nobody showed for these tables. The steak pie although tasted ok had maybe 3 small pieces of meet for £20. The service was so slow that I went to the bar twice to order drinks and deserts. A service charge was added to the bill which I have no problem with if the service is good. We paid our bill at the bar as waited 15 minutes for the bill. I mentioned to the waitress that it was not a good policy to fib about table bookings who laughed loudly and waved us goodbye. I have not ever left a bad review at a restaurant this is my first and I am an in my sixties.

Absolutely wonderful place! From popping in for a quick drink to meeting up with friends or family for food and drinks to a Sunday lunch - it’s got it all! The staff are absolutely lovely, friendly and courteous! Great atmosphere with such originality about the place; it’s really warm and inviting. Major plus is it’s also dog friendly!!

Absolutely wonderful place to stop by for either a quick drink to joining a bunch of friends for food and drinks. Warm and inviting, comfortable yet still has that originality about it. The staff are fantastic, greeting you with smiles and always courteous. Did I mention they are dog friendly also?

My wife and I live relatively close, just 3 stops away on the Northern Line. Rather than go to our usual place for Sunday lunch, which either one of us have to drive to, we decided to give the Old White Lion in East Finchley a try. Food was presented well, my wife having roast sirloin of beef and myself having a rack of lamb. On arrival of the food my wife asked for horseradish, which had been forgotten about, so half way through our meal I had to go to the bar and request some. It eventually got to the table when my wife had one slice of beef left. Firstly I would say that the rack of lamb was delicious and the red wine jus is possibly the nicest jus I have ever had. It was amazing. My comment on the sirloin beef. It was very fatty. I know sirloin is fatty but this was overly so. Spoiled it for her as nearly every bite she was having to cut fat away from the meat. We obviously had drinks, which when we got the bill they were very expensive, but the real kicker was the 10% service charge on the whole bill so the drinks instantly became 10% more expensive than they actually are. Why is pub charging a service charge? It’s a pub! Example, if I went to the bar a pint of Peroni was £6.90, which is the most I have ever paid, but after the service charge they charged me £7.59 for the privilege of having it brought to my table. That’s nearly £8 a pint! Come on! 2 G&T (large) £24.64 and large Ciroc vodka & coke was £16.02, prices after the service cost. Total bill for 2 dinners plus 2 sides, 2 sweets a 2 drinks each, plus a yummy Bloody Mary, was £138.00 which in the great schemes of things is very expensive for eating in a pub on a Sunday afternoon out. So to sumerise the food was lovely baring the sirloin of beef which was just too fatty, a nice place to eat with a decent atmosphere but expect a hefty bill at the end of it all. Would we go again. probably not to be honest, just because of the expensive drinks and service charge.

I live round the corner from the pub, so I like to pop in from time to time for a couple of pints. As I’m local I’ve got to know most of the people behind the bar enough to know they’re all a decent bunch. I like the fact that they and the pub cater for every walk of life- be that like myself, popping in for a quiet drink, a family for a meal, or even (given the size of the venue) large events whilst still serving their faithful locals. It’s also a very dog friendly establishment, so if you and your family have taken your pets out for a long walk and fancy refreshments- you’re more than welcome here. I’ve only ever been in there once when one customer complained to the friendly staff about a small dog being in there whilst he was drinking an orange. The staff dealt with the situation very diplomatically, and I applaud them for that. I’m a dog lover, and I think the pub is big enough for everyone- be that human or canine. Plus-at the end of the day, both the customer and the dogs were drinking the same thing- water (unless I’m mistaken and he was drinking a pint of vodka and orange). So, to finish- it’s easier for a human to find somewhere else to drink orange than it is for a dog to choose a pub to visit. And to confirm- I’m a genuine customer.

I recently had a birthday party at the Old White Lion for 60 people and it was excellent. The food was great and the staff very attentive and they contributed to making it a great night.

Would absolutely not recommend for any coeliacs, I was told by the staff I couldn’t eat a single thing and they didn’t offer any alternatives or suggestions to me. Had to sit at the table while everyone else ate, wouldn’t eat here again as was completely alienating and felt that more could’ve been done to make the situation better. I’ve been to other places before who have done their best to help and find solutions despite not being coeliac accredited restaurants.

We hired out the 'library' room for an event with around 40 people and it was superb. The staff were great, the venue, food and drinks were excellent and the booking process was easy. A great venue that we enjoy going back to again and again.

Very expensive for quality of food and drink. About average wine but my god a glass is very pricy not sure why it gets so busy. Not much better than Spoons but twice the price.
