The Spaniards Inn in Barnet

Dim warm light, dark wood, and the smell of food and mulled wine. Inside, it is lively and festively decorated, creating a cheerful hubbub of voices. Sometimes it is almost silent, then there is booming laughter. The food was delicious, and the service was very friendly. I will go back on my next visit to London (I personally recommend reserving a table in advance).

The pub is really cute, but the food and service is really really bad and I would not recommend anyone to go for a meal. Max a pint if you really want to.

We had a great time in this cosy warm and welcoming place. The atmosphere is truly charming, you feel immersed in a BBC period drama! The food was delicious, and our waitress Gina took perfect care of us, even with my chihuahua Leia occasionally startling her with loud barks. I cannot wait to return with more friends here!

Gina was lovely, and the whole experience was incredible!

We were looking forward to a girly Christmas meal and had booked a month in advance. There was no cauli cheese and they had ran out of 4 of the reasonably priced red wines. I asked if we could be charged for the cheaper wine but this was not possible. The food was good though, but the service wasn’t great and our requests seemed to land as a nuisance

My server was Gina and I tried the mulled wine and it was the best I ever had, she was fast and knew what she was doing and made drink recommendations, she was very friendly!!! I also had the hamburger it was amazing!

I just want to say my experience was amazing, clean, friendly and nice environment and absolutely great server her name was Gina, she went above and beyond for us, she was fast, knowledgeable, helped us pick our a dish off the menu since we were in vacation and have never been their, she got our food out fast, was very nice and such a sweet person and did an amazing job even though we were kinda difficult with not knowing what we wanted! i had the plesure to visit spaniards inn ,i heard good things about it and i said to give it a try!i was with some friends for some drinks but we had the chance to get some food as well! was very good and i was most pleased i was served by a romanian girl Gina ,which was more easy for me because im romanian as well!So thank you Gina for helping us out with our choices!

Beautiful but expensive menu for both food and drinks. We had veggie sunday roast, and was waaay too pricey.

I had the raclette and pancetta burger. The raclette was basically nonexistent, the burger was charred and dry and the chips were overcooked and hard (and not in a good crunchy way)

Amazing ambience surrounded by the rustic decor and a beautiful fireplace, very cosy. Nice food but although service was excellent, it lacked finesse; I was surprised to see a knife next to my pasta, had to pour my own wine. The Porn Star martini failed to impress.

Super cosy and beautiful traditional English pub

I've been going to the Spaniards for nearly 50 years and never had to complain about anything until two days ago. The service was appalling, the manageress was rude and the waiters had absolutely no idea about what they were supposed to do, one of them didn't even understand English ! Never again.

Had an awful experience here. I paid for a glass of wine through the QR code on my table, the waiter asked to see my ID and I was denied the drink as he said I should have a British Passport as a form of ID. Apparently, my EU national identity card which I have been using all across the UK for years and I use to travel wasn't an acceptable form of ID to him. The staff, including the manager, were extremely rude, unprofessional and singled me out in a bustling pub on a Sunday afternoon. It is completely unacceptable and discriminatory to deny customers the ability to purchase a single glass of wine with clear, accepted and legitimate ID in an international and diverse city - I have never felt so shocked and treated like an outsider in all of my years in London and entire life in the UK. Awful, shocking, prejudiced behaviour.

I’m sure the food will be nice but the experience of trying to order it and simply being ignored by the bar staff who were running out of all the drinks and just disappearing while their waiting colleagues stood around chatting because it wasn’t there job! Has completely soured the experience.

It is very difficult to eat here. Even when there's loads of empty tables. Make sure you book a few days in advance to eat in the empty pub. We gave up eventually and went elsewhere In response to the advice below: The table I sat at was very empty. I could have booked it online 40 minutes from when I sat down, but that would have involved waiting next to the empty tables for 40 minutes and then moving a few metres to my left and then Ordering food. Have you considered a non digital booking system? Or being adaptable to a situation as it occurs? Your staff were very polite though. Hence the two stars.

I visited The Spaniards Inn for my birthday meal, and the team couldn’t have been more lovely and accommodating. Their knowledge of the Inn’s history was impressive, and it was fascinating to learn about its unique details. Being seated in the oldest part of the pub made the experience even more special!

Experience was perfect. Warm, joyful atmosphere. Sunday roast was delicious, especially the pork belly and the lamb rump. We were served by Kye, who was not only kind and attentive, but was also very helpful when we requested to take away some of the food. We will be coming again very soon.

Honestly, I've been really disappointed with this place recently. The food is expensive and the quality is usually quite good which is why I go here. It's a beautiful place and it's worth paying for. Put the last few times I've been here. The food has taken a really long time. The waiter took 30 minutes to even take our order yesterday. When the food did come it was oily, bland and overcooked. At 90 pound for 1 starter and 1 main course, with a couple of drinks, I expect quality to be much better than that. I also asked the waiter on three separate occasions over more than half an hour for a drink. In the end I actually gave up. Really disappointed

Absolutely gorgeous. One of the best pubs in London. It gets busy, make sure you make a reservation. And try the Bloody Mary! It's excellent! Came back today. Says they open at 10. We got here at 10:30. They said they would open at 11. We went in at 11:10, they said kitchen won't open until 12:00.

Built in 1585, evening with friends in one of the 5 most famous pubs in North London, service ok,nice cider and top crispy calamari, perfect haddock and chips and good music..Interesting outdoor garden and large parking...

I have been here twice this month, one of the most beautiful old traditional pubs you can find. Lovely roaring fire, very friendly staff, low lighting which adds to the atmosphere. Right by the heath for a walk after lunch. Came back to find a Christmas tree had been put up and decorated and with the fire, low lighting and old wooden interior it could have been a hundred years ago! Lamb rump was delicious

Came in on a busy Sunday afternoon. Got a table in the beautiful and big outdoor seating despite not having reserved a table. The ambience was nice and loads of their outdoor tables had heating lamps. We started with a few small plates. Except for the parmesan fries everything lacked flavour and salt. Because of that we refrained from ordering mains and went to a restaurant for dinner after we were done with our starters and drinks. Even our pot of ginger tea lacked flavour. Seems like it was added to warm instead of hot water. Not worth the money. Wouldn't visit again.

My favorite pub!! Historic building located near Hampstead Park, very friendly staff. I recommend booking because it is very popular, especially by locals. Exquisite food, excellent choice of drinks and wines.

I arrived to such a warm and friendly welcome and was shown to the perfect table for me, as a solo diner. My waitress had a wonderful sense of humour, which made me feel so comfortable. Service was prompt and attentive, without being intrusive….the perfect balance. The atmosphere in the inn was ‘buzzing’. A lovely mixture of laughter and conversation. The inn was decorated beautifully for Christmas….perfect for the style of an old, traditional inn. I loved the red bauble in the window. Onto the food….I had a delicious chickpea salad, with the most dreamy of salad dressings. The side of chips were perfection….that’s all I can say. I finished with the apple crumble, because I had to, and I’m so glad I did. It was truly scrumptious. Like grandma used to make. Proper like. I completed my visit, with a walk in the beautiful garden, that was all lit up with twinkling lights. It looked stunning. I walked away from The Spaniard Inn with a full belly and a full heart. It was like saying farewell to a old/new friend. What a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Thank you.

So sad to have to give a bad review. Our meal came out not as ordered - could have lived with that if not for the attitude we had from Cheyenne, a server, who was audibly arguing with other servers, slamming the door, huffing and being utterly rude and miserable - my daughter was fascinated 😂 it was ridiculous. I mentioned her attitude to the host desk guy. It was a shame
