The Old White Lion Hotel Restaurant in Bradford

It was probably the worst Sunday roast I have had! I booked this on the back of the reviews on Tripadvisor which is a joke. You cannot rely on Trip advisor to give you an honest review !

Had a fantastic time lovely room (12) great bar, great food ,and breakfast. Most of all the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and kind. 100% recommend The Old White Lion.

3 Adults and 1 dog called in quite late for dinner, as we had looked at other places on the main street and we were unsure because all the pubs in Haworth only seem to offer basic pub grub. We decided to give it a whirl and we were really glad we did. We had 1 lamb chops, 1 chefs homemade steak pie and 1 chicken and chorizo tagliatelle. The lamb chops were delicious lovely and meaty and well cooked lovely sauce, potatoes and veg, the steak pie was stuffed full of meat and my husband said it was like eating fillet steak with a lovely puff pastry lid plenty of chips and veg the tagliatelle was also full of spicy chicken and chorizo with lovely garlic bread. All the meals were freshly cooked not frozen /microwaved , super quality food and were excellent value for money. The hotel could do with updating but that did not deter from the enjoyment of the meal, and the staff were great. Would visit again and would love to try other dishes on the menu.

One of the nicest meals we have had in Haworth - friendly and welcoming staff, quaint little rooms, very reasonably priced - the sea bass is highly recommended

We arrived without any reservations. After checking with Chris, at reception, we were shown 2 rooms to choose from. We decided to stay for 4 nights. What a lovely experience! The pub was delightful with one cozy room and a larger dining area. The food was excellent (try the fish and chips!). Breakfast was delicious and served in another charming room. Every staff member we encountered was helpful and friendly. The proximity to the Brontë Parsonage Museum is ideal. It was a real stroke of luck that we were able to stay at The Old White Lion. Enjoyed every minute!

Better service from White Lion restaurant waiters than I've met when eating elsewhere; the two pleasant young men advised us, served us timely and remembered exactly what each diner had chosen. We were staying 3 days at the hotel, but dined only once, because we had already booked elsewhere. Next time we'll 'eat in' more. The hotel room was all right, although the small space available in the building left little space in ours. Breakfast was fine, the usual mix of buffet starter and delicious hot food served from the restaurant. Perfectly sited at the top of the well-known steep Main Street, The Old White Lion Hotel is a good choice for a Haworth holiday break.

We had booked for dinner on Thursday 15th August and received a warm welcome from Donna who made sure all 14 meals arrived promptly. Everything was hot and tasty. Thank you.

Went here tonight for a meal and had the best fish ever, the batter was light and cooked to perfection, had homemade tarter sauce proper chips and mushy peas with a tasty salad, my partner had the home made burger also lovely , highly recommend

We had a meal here yesterday and it was by far the best one I had whilst staying in Haworth. The food was so tasty and plentiful . The service was excellent and we really couldn’t fault it. I had the salmon and my partner had the blade of beef. We would highly recommend you eat here if you’re staying in the area.

Highly recommend this lovely oldy worldy hotel. Comfortable room delicious food friendly and helpful staff. Lovely views and just at the top of Main Street in the heart of Bronte country.

Love this pub. Cosy and welcoming, with traditional fittings. The staff offer a warm welcome. Food was fantastic, winter warmers and good portions. Good drink selection. Right in the middle of Haworth’s shops and attractions.

Popped in for a drink while visiting Haworth for the weekend we was greeted by Lucy and Peggy that made us all feel really welcome, couldn’t do enough for us we will definitely be returning. Such lovely girls

Myself and a friend were in Haworth on a walking holiday and we ended up eating here for three nights. The service was excellent, so a big thank you to Max and Joe - two lovely gents who really made it a lovely place to come back to. Joe was not phased at all by the numerous vegetarian queries regarding food and the chef was very accommodating in making changes which we requested. Food was home cooked and excellent. This isn’t fine dining and it doesn’t pretend to be or charge you ridiculous prices. It is great pub food and super value for money. I will definitely go back when I am next in Haworth. Thanks to Max, Joe and the chef. Keep up the good work.

Room was decent, smelt a but fusty though. Breakfast was shocking, waited 40 minutes for it to be served with no beans, then had to ask over 5 times for my beans for them to come 30 minutes later once the breakfast was cold. It wasn't the waiters fault as max was a great lad and could have a bit of banter. Shame about the chef as the front of house was good.

Me and my friend came for a meal in your pub this evening after arriving in howarth for the light procession that got cancelled. We arrived in your pub with my 15 week old baby. There was two really nice young girls that found us a table and somewhere to leave our pram. We always starving so we ordered fish and chips and scampi and chips. WOW the food was horrendous! Our food came out the chips on both plates were raw and the scampi was cold inside, which I had squashed with my finger to check it. We told one of the young girls who immediately came over and checked our chips and the scampi and admitted the chips were cooked properly and the scampi was cold. She then went to the kitchen and came back to tell us the chef was cooking us fresh meals. The new meals came back out. The chips again were not cooked, they were still hard and the potatoe raw. The scampi that I had squashed was still on my plate but apparently the chef had cooked our meals from fresh again! The fish and chips well the fish was soggy as if it had been warmed up in the microwave. It definitely wasn’t cooked fresh. When the fish was moved to side so we could get to the rest of the chips there was a hair on the plate under the chips. Again we showed the young girl who was the waitress and she told us not to pay for our meals and told us where we could get some better food from. She was embarrassed. I can’t believe that any place thinks it ok to serve food in that state no matter how busy they are. We would of rather waited longer and had decent food!

Food was poor, ordered turkey dinner, partner got 2, yes just 2 sprouts, I got none! Turnkeys was sparse and honestly had seen better days! With so many options in Haworth you would think places would put some effort in!

Had a nice meal on a Tuesday evening. Sat in the main bar area where other diners were seated. I had belly pork with creamy mash potato and my Mum had scampi. Good sized portions and reasonable priced. Only complaint is amount of vulgar and foul language coming from drinkers in main bar area but not the fault of the establishment.

A four night stay in October. Comfortable room, very good food both at breakfast and in the evening and a friendly, cosy bar. The difference here is the staff. All were very helpful, friendly and happy to tweak meals for a gluten free eater. Look forward to returning!

Cosy traditional looking pub with a fairly good choice of food on the menu. My first choice was disappointingly unavailable but I found something else on the list to go for. It was fairly busy but getting a table wasn’t too difficult. Staff were friendly enough. Ladies loos were kept in good condition but the gents were apparently not so pleasant!

A proper old fashioned pub, not pretending to be gastro, but quite happy to swap out elements of dishes to your taste. Staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful, chatty, but polite and respectful, Peggy stands out as bright and informative, but also really good sense of humour.

At the top of Haworth, the White Lion is accessible but vies for attention with some of the other pub restaurants in the area. The grand entrance with columns are typical of the period and inside, also typical, it is a warren to find the dog friendly bar area serving food. The staff are really friendly and engaging but the decor is a little dated. It is a bit like sitting in your grandmothers parlour with dark carpet and cupboards containing nick-nacks. The staff and food made up for the rather uninspiring interior. The food was freshly prepared and well presented. It was good value too, especially in what could be a bit of a tourist trap just around the corner from the Bronte parsonage. It was also the hardest working - it opened at four instead of 5pm which meant it was a good place for an early evening meal.

Had a good meal here and the Tetley beer was excellent - the best pint I had all week and I tried about 12. The menu was better than some of the pub classic menus elsewhere with more variety. A special mention for Suzanne who looked after our group very well after dealing with an initial problem. I would happlyl have gone there again but we ran out of days.

We saw the vegan curry advertised and went to try it. We were absolutely delighted with our decision. The food was extremely well cooked and very tasty. I like mine spicy, so I asked for some chilly flakes. The chef when a step better. I was provided with finely chopped fresh chilly, for which I was grateful. We also had a side order of sweet potato fries that were just perfectly cooked. They had the desired crunch and texture to make them plenty morish. The staff were excellent and very efficient. They were there if we needed something, but left us alone to enjoy our food, without disturbing us with ‘are you ok?’ every so often. The whole experience was so pleasant, that we have now booked for my birthday. They have even ensured that we can have the same table. Excellent food. Excellent service.

I was booked in here with a group of friends after spending the afternoon with them visiting the church and sampling some of the local shops. As we were a group and the tables in the main bar weren't large enough for us we found ourselves in a room by ourselves. Nevertheless the staff popped in frequently to serve us and to check that everything was fine with our food. Service was friendly, courteous, and generally efficient. I had the game pie with vegetables. The pastry was, as one of my friends put it, extremely puff. There was a selection of four vegetables served on the plate and at least two different types of meat in the pie. The pie was generously filled and tasty with lots of gravy. This dish didn't come with any kind of potatoes but they can be ordered as an extra, and I didn't need them for a more than adequate main course. I followed this with the Bailey's and Toffee Cheesecake with Bailey's Ice cream from the specials board. The cheese cake was nice enough but was overshadowed by the ice cream which was both very creamy and full of flavour. I would have expected the cheesecake to be the hero of this dish but the ice cream was - the overall balance was wrong given the menu description. I also had a decaf coffee and a ginger beer, which I ordered from the main bar and paid for separately. I'd happily eat here again.

My partner and I visited for food as we had had lovely food on previous visits but sadly this meal was disappointing. The starter was lovely but the steak pie pastry was inedible and flew across the table when attempting to cut into it. There was no gravy on the chips or peas and portion size is smaller. Although the gammon meal was quite nice there was no dressing on the salad and yet again a smaller portion. Prices had also gone up which is to be expected but quality and value should not be ignored

Really good pub food in a nice atmosphere. Staff were friendly and on the ball. We just had a main course but both meals very good with very decent portions. We will definitely call back the next time we visit Haworth.

My sister and I went for dinner here on a trip visiting Haworth. We were expecting normal pub food and were pleasently surprised when our food arrived. It was absolutely beautiful and much more than we expected, especially for the price. Would definitely recommend.

Went for a family lunch during the week, very quiet when we arrived and there was one lady serving. Ordered our main course, arrived roughly within 30 minutes and was excellent. Highly recommend the steak pie. During our meal the bar began filling up and meals being ordered. We ordered desserts and 45 minutes later when we asked if we would receive them soon, we were told there was one chef working and they would check how long they would be. Having not come back to us we went to pay and heard don’t start those puddings (nearly an hour after ordering) they are paying. I think it would be good practice to inform diners that there is going to be delays rather than keeping them sat there. Again food is excellent service not so good

The restaurant wasn't open but the bar food menu was impressive and the selection of specials of really good quality. Certainly not typical "pub" food. We ate our meal in the restaurant and the staff more than happy to open it just for us.

This was opposite to where we stayed so went in quite often, the food was very nice and reasonably priced. Found it one of the nicest for food in the area, of the places we visited. One down side was a couple of times had a problem with the card machine. But in working hours could go to post office to get some money out.

Came here for drinks and a meal with family , bar area was fine , had a few drinks with family while waiting for the restaurant to open up , had a lovley friendly young bar lady who was helpful & efficient but that's where it all ended , the food was terrible , the lady who said she was the MANAGER was the most rudest, unhelpful person I've ever met , she hadn't got a clue about anything that was going on in the establishment & blamed everyone else for the mistakes when it should be her job to oversee everything . She has no people skills whatsoever & I'm not sure why she has this job as she certainly dosent enjoy it . I've now read other reviews on here which also tell about the bad experiences others have had with this same person. Will never return & never recommend. Awful , ruined our whole evening.

We struggled to find somewhere to eat on a Saturday night as everywhere was full. Upon a recommendation we tried the Old White Lion. Gluten free food was clearly marked on the menu and the receptionist for the hotel was Coeliac herself. Always reassuring!I had garlic mushrooms to start and the game pie for main course. Both gluten free and delicious Highly recommend.

Went to Haworth and called into this pub for lunch, very big pub with several rooms, we got a lovely table with a high chair has we had our grandson with us. Ordered two scampi and chips (very big portions) and a Yorkshire pudding with beef, we also asked for a little plate with veg and mash potatoes on for the little one, very accommodating and food really good and reasonably priced, would definitely return.

Have been to this this restaurant before, just can't understand why more people do not use it. The scallops are an excellent choice for starters. For mains I would recommend both the duck, and the 'cock and bull' The bill for four came to £170 including drinks and gratuity. Excellent value for money considering the quality of the food.

Only had a drink here but was so snug, warm and comfortable - I felt I could have stayed the evening. A lovely place to visit

This pub immediately endeared itself to me because the gammon came with egg and pineapple! Why places scrimp and save by only offering one or the other, I will never know. Anyway the gammon was superb and the chips were actually from a real potato - not some reconstituted frozen things.

In the age of so much modernity, it is nice to eat somewhere where time has literally stood still! A beautiful old building, wonderful staff, fantastic food, great beer. The mix of people from young to old says everything, quality never goes out of fashion. I had the best fish and chips i ave eaten for a long time, the wife had a lovely filled Yorkshire pudding (it was huge). Both meals were perfect in every way and very reasonably priced. If in Haworth you must eat here it is great.

Wonderful food, fantastic service, we enjoyed our stay here immensley. The rooms were very clean and more than adequate for our stay, beds lovely and comfy too! The Sunday roast was to die for, and the breakfast excepional! All the produce was so tasty and locally sourced, and nothing was too much trouble for them. All in all we were over the moon and will certainly stay here again when we return to Haworth.

Used to come here years ago with my parents when we lived in the area. It was nice to see the area and the friendliness of the people in the area hasn't changed. The hotel was great and will be coming back soon

The Old White Lion is a dreary place. too big and impersonal, no personal service. Four of us having a drink at the bar, served by a grumpy "old" barman. Not really willing to serve. Asked for G&T; and some recommendations for local gin: blank face and no response. Asked for dry white wine: served a sweet one. Had meal for four of us at the bar/pub, ok, friendly waitress, average food. We wanted to drink more, but with the grumpy bar tender we just left find another pub... if you want to work in a bar/pub, why not have some basic knowledge about your work and be friendly with your customers? it helps for the business
