A group of ten of us booked a table to celebrate my birthday. On the day we received a call to say that the boiler had broken and therefore the restaurant couldn't open. However, they pulled out all the stops to make sure our evening was not ruined. They re-seated us in a private dining room in the Hilton hotel next door and the chef, waiting staff, menus etc all came across too. Essentially it was exactly the same just sat in a different dining room. The menu had some lovely choices on there and every single meal was both delicious and well presented. The staff could not have been more attentive and attention was paid to every detail. Huge thanks to all the staff for making sure my birthday celebration could continue to go ahead, and for making it a great evening. I would highly recommend.

I haven't been in the Premier enclosure but this is the best place in the County Enclosure. We pre-booked a table as part of the ticket (£83 per head) and all had low expectations for food quality. Both the service and the quality of the food was outstanding and really good value. I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again. It's a bit of a trek to the bookies on the track but it's worth it.

We ordered gin and tonics on arrival and they put the whole bottle of tonic in!We ordered our food and were seated at our table when these were ready. Salt beef hash was very tasty along with the goat cheese tart and parfait. Unfortunately the salmon was a extremely tiny portion so very disappointed. Duck, Ox Cheek and Halibut were very good, the steak however was over cooked and tough. When staff enquired if everything was ok with meals he was advised that the steak was well over cooked and tough. No response. Despite only 3 tables being occupied no staff came to our table to enquiry if more drinks or wine would be required. Overall very disappointed. Would suggest changing your steak supplier !!

Celebrated my 50th birthday here Saturday night with my husband and two teenage children. What a fabulous place and the food was absolutely delicious. All of us had different starters and I would recommend any of them, particularly the salt beef hash. The main courses were equally as good. The steak was incredible, both children enjoyed the chicken dish and my halibut was cooked to perfection. The staff were attentive and polite. A fantastic restaurant Well worth a visit for a special occasion.

Five of us visited on a Saturday evening, having been once before, about a year ago. Very relaxed, informal and friendly atmosphere, where you can have a drink first and peruse the menu in the bar area. The food was superb. I had duo of salmon followed by beef stroganoff. The beef was cooked to perfection and not a piece was left. I can also recommend the Yorkshire cheeseboard to finish with. Everyone in our party cleared their plates and I think that says it all really.

Arrived early and received a warm greeting from staff. They made sure there were sufficient seats at our table in the bar area for all to be seated whilst we made our menu choices. A very good varied menu with lots of choice. I selected the pate to start with was beautiful and the rump of lamb to follow a well presented dish at tasted superb. I followed with the trio of deserts & an excellent coffee. Not cheap but excellent value for money I felt. Only slight criticism is the restaurant & bar are a little chilly, I was glad I had a dress on with sleeves.

A great venue full of original character and charm, comprising of an outdoor patio area with views overlooking the race course finishing line, a large spacious bar/waiting reception room and a modern chic stylish dining room. (A lovely touch, and a nod to the past, was to see it has kept some of the original features from the time it was the jockeys weighing room) The ambience is vibrant and bright, very smart, yet relaxed and casual.Got a warm, cheery welcome from a lively, flamboyant maître d’. His staff served me drinks while i decided what to eat off the menu whilst seated on the patio area, were professional, friendly, well presented and they all had a concise knowledge of the full menu. Very refreshing. The starter was absolutely delicious. (Gin, rhubarb and ginger cured salmon with a tonic foam and cucumber sorbet with soda bread.)The main was equally mouth-watering. (assiette of pork, which consisted of, pork fillet wrapped in bacon, wild boar sausage roll, rillettes of pork belly, rainbow chard, Boulangère potatoes with a sage jus. ….One word. ……SUBLIME!..!I decided to go the whole hog and have a desert. (Through nothing more than greed and the desire to eat more luscious food) ……..oh…and I’m fat. LOL.So I opted for (Champagne poached pear, candied apple and ginger with a pear sorbet). Tasted Glorious… and a great way to finish the meal. The presentation of all the dishes was just pure art.. A beautiful symphony of colour and taste. I highly recommend a visit to this resplendent restaurant.Excellent staff, excellent atmosphere, excellent prices and most of all, excellent food.I will definitely be visiting again.

This has been on my 'go to' list for a while. Environment is pleasant in the bar area, but the restaurant just misses something -background music maybe? (but please not intrusive!! The ambiance is just off the mark. Food was overly pretentious but lacking real flavour. To start, I had the Goats cheese and roasted garlic arancini. I had to check with the waitress if I had the correct starter. No goats cheese flavour at all, or garlic. Totally bland. Then I had the rump of lamb. Only OK. The service was overly attentive - we were approached even though we had asked for 10-15 mins before dessert. Now I am a sucker for treacle tart - so of course I ordered it! Very very disappointing. Mainly as there was no treacle (or golden syrup for the pedantic reader!!). It was an individual (small) tart with dry breadcrumbs! I had a taste only. The waitress was very pleasant and offered to remove it from the bill before I needed to ask. I will not return here.

We went here for our friends' wedding and it was a lovely venue. They had afternoon tea and the food was really good, the children loved their separate plates with lots of different food items on them. Luckily the weather was ok so it was nice to use the outdoor area and the children enjoyed running around on the grass (& the bouncy castle that they had). The only downside is the drinks were really expensive, which was clear as the bar was empty quite a lot of the time because a lot of the guests weren't drinking. Other than that it was a lovely venue.

Located on the site of the Doncaster Racecourse, the Old Weighing Room serves a delicious menu of seasonal gourmet food. The renovation of this old building where the jockeys used to be weighed before the races has been done very sympathetically retaining lots of original charm including the impressive domed ceiling, and original weighing scales. There is a decked area where you can sit outside for drinks although sadly this will probably end up entirely in the shade once the Hilton hotel next door is built. The bar serves cocktails and has a good selection of wine and champagne. The food has always been excellent every time we have eaten here. The lemon meringue pudding is a particular favourite! Staff are friendly and very attentive. A fantastic dining experience.

There were four of us and the starters that we chose were Warm Goats cheese salad, Ham hock & balsamic onion terrine and Whitby Smoked haddock with leeks and mussels all of which came beautifully presented. Our main courses we chose were Cod loin with panacettta and brown shrimp risotto, Chicken supreme, Pan fried hake with squid ink linguine and razor clams. Finallly some great desserts to choose from and we had Lemon meringue pie, Espresso Creme Brulee and Peanut brittle cheesecake. Would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant which has original surroundings, a good ambience with excellent service and food. Fine dining without the fine dining price tag.

Wonderful venue with lots of free parking across the road. The building is light and airy and very nicely kept. The staff are very pleasant and there are lots of them so service was good. The seating arrangement was not good as we had to slide along a bench and were trapped against a bar of some sort. The chairs on the other side of the table were left for older members of the party and young mothers who needed the space. The menu was a fixed Sunday Roast with multiple choices of meat and a veggie option.I found the Ham Hock terrine starter to be a bit dry but was otherwise enjoyable. Unfortunately the Roast Pork was not. There was a lot of it but it was tasteless. The apple puree was extremely sweet and I couldn't eat it. The Red Wine gravy was far too watery for my taste and was ignored. The Nouveau vegetables were hard and not to my liking at all.Shame really as it's such a nice place.

I booked online for a Fri night and an e mail was supposed to be sent to confirm, this did not happen so had to wait until thurs to ring up to ask if the table was booked as they are only open Thursday Fri sat and Sun.On entry we were greeted by friendly staff but on first impression the place had no character or atmosphere. It was grey and black, very dull and drab. Tables were close together and music very loud, having to shout to make our selves heard. Very limited menu. Starter of goats cheese salad was wafer thin slices of beetroot, hard stale like pieces of bread with melted cheese. I had hake(which to me is one of the cheapest fish on the market) with taggliatelle and clams. Hunt the clams. No seasoning had been used at all. I don't as a rule add salt or pepper to food but I did on this meal.Altogether not the best experience, but each to their own, some people seem to think it's wonderful. There are far better places in doncaster, maybe it's because they have a captive audience being at the racecourse, but I for one won't return.

This was a roller-coaster snapshot of Doncaster today in a setting from its far more distinguished past. The evening started well. The washrooms are clean and spacious. The grand entrance has comfortable sofas. The host waiter gave a good drinks service and menu advice. Then three of the six seats in the restaurant were very uncomfortable, on a narrow bench with no back except a protruding windowsill; it is suitable for a tiny jockey adjusting his boots, but not for normally sized or large people on a pleasant evening out. The bread rolls were a splendid success and even our French lady guest became briefly enthusiastic - she is tall, but on the narrow bench!! For both courses, the food arrived plated and nicely presented - we did not stay for the sweet course. However, the portion sizes were erratic with Birthday Boy's salmon fillet being particularly small (centimeters rather than inches), dry and hard. All servings of the beef were far too tough and the peppercorn sauce was unusually fiery - which I liked, but it would catch some throats in a devilish grip. A side order of triple-cooked french fries was missing, but the waitresses had all vanished, so I eventually went to the bar to ask host waiter for help. In summary: the staff are pleasant, but insufficiently trained in their roles; the chef can achieve good things, but some ingredients are substandard; after the grand entrance it is disappointingly uneven. If those in charge had some - well, any appreciation of customers' needs - let alone the 'customer delight' concept, staff training and the importance of good ingredients, it could be so much better.PS: On an adjoining table, a raucous group with an astonishingly loud woman completed our fine dining experience. Doncaster Today: no wonder the Queen stopped coming long ago and sublime traditions such as Doncaster Butterscotch disappeared with her.

Visited the old Weighing rooms for about the fifteenth time, previously given great reviews of this restaurant, however, on this occasion I cannot say the same about the food and especially the service. Three of our group orders steaks which are not the cheapest fillet steaks..... Two orders rare and one medium. Mine was not rare and they added a little more beef on each plate which was overcooked and not very nice. I informed the manager that my steak was not cooked to my liking which he disagreed with and reluctantly said he would order another steak, I waited and waited and by the time my second steak had arrived everyone on the table had finished. The second steak was not rare either, it was overcooked, the manager again came over and strongly disagreed with what we were saying, he asked if I would like another steak, by this time I had gone beyond eating on my own. We ordered puddings that were ok but that is all, OK.......The service was terrible, nothing cleared away the peppercorn sauce jug was still on the table when we left the table, we were never asked if we would like coffees or liquors which we all found strange.Earlier in the evening we all decided that this restaurant was one of the best in Doncaster, we all have a different opinion now. I did contact DMBC who run the restaurant via email but got a very disappointing reply.

As a treat my husband booked for us to go to the races on 29th December preceeded by lunch in The Old Weighing House. Where do i start? It was well organised. The staff were attentive but not overly so and the food was.....delicious. Well cooked. Well presented. The gentleman who showed us to our table was very informative about the place and obviously very proud of it and rightly so. They also serve food on none race days. Well worth a visit. My only critisism is that some of the tables were a little close together but maybe it was because they were fully booked...not surprised. Thankyou...we will be back.

This is the 4th time I have been in two years now. The menu hasn't changed much and there isn't much choice if you've been a few times before. The setting is absolutely lovely, the building, the ambience and intimacy all give it 5 stars on first entry. Unfortunately as you begin to interact with the human aspects of the venue it starts to go wrong. The Maitre D' doesn't match the quality of the venue, he needs professional training and I would buy him a suit which fits (not being rude but this is the face of the restaurant). We were given the wrong menu's and had a strange conversation about size of glasses for drinks .. all not needed as we came out for a romantic night not a chat about glasses. Having ordered (just the two of us) we were taken through to our table and seated. The waitress, although very polite and smart forgot who ordered what when we received our starters and mains (they should know, it's a nice touch). My main course came with a steak, which then made me realise I hadn't been asked how I wanted it cooked .. it was very rare, but other than that both courses were very nice. We did not have sweets or coffee. The cost of the meal was expensive, I say this as there are two very nice competing restaurants within walking distance which are cheaper and do the customer service right, even though their venues are nowhere near as nice as the weighing room. So, you may remember this was my fourth visit, each time I go again hoping they've changed the staff or trained them better .. or the menu has been updated .. or something .. it would be 5 star every time if they got the little things right. Come on management (or owners) read the reviews .. it's not just me saying this by the look of it .. step up and make it the place to go in Doncaster. If the Hilton and apartments get built before you sort it out you'll lose a lot of just about guaranteed custom !!

First ate at this restaurant not long after it opened largely on the basis of TripAdvisor reviews and was very disappointed. In views of the ongoing reviews and recommendations from friends decided to give it another go. Not much better, I'm afraid. Food was slightly better, largely because the chef is now putting together sensible combinations of ingredients not some of the odd combinations from previously. However the food was lukewarm at best served on cold plates. Waitress was clearly inexperienced and poorly trained. Large party left table behind and table still uncleared an hour later when we left. Compared to our last visit, it was very quiet probably only about 4 tables in use most of evening. Not difficult to see why, I'm afraid.

Having had a very poor meal a year or so ago we were persuaded to give the restaurant another chance. The good news is that the meals were much better though no better than ok. Unfortunately the waitress was unpleasant but the waiter was excellent. There were only a very few diners, probably reflecting doncaster's wisdom in going somewhere else. Shame, as the opportunity for success for a quality restaurant in the central location is there to be had. Sadly this place fails again. Very disappointed.

We'd been waiting to visit The Old Weighing Room for sometime and we're looking forward to our Saturday evening reservation. We entered the building into a large anti room after a short while a waitress came across to check our reservation and hand us menus and take a drink order. We were a little surprised not to be greeted by a maitre d and be handed a menu with more options instead we were handed a menu on a card with rather limited options having previously looked on the website where there were a number of options, however, we all chose and then moved to our table again a bit taken aback by the resteraunt itself which was more of a cafe style than an up market resteraunt as portrayed on the website. Too many tables no better than an average kitchen table with full silverservice layout crammed on! Food .. disappointing:( at best mediocre. As I said previously limited in choice and when served luke warm. I opted for the lemon meringue as dessert highly surprised when it came with no meringue at best a highly decorated lemon tart!!! This is a beautiful building and pleased somebody is endeavouring to keep it in use, but we all thought that the resteraunt is aspiring to be something it most definitely is not! The 3 young waitresses however were giving it their best shot but clearly very inexperienced. Will not be recommending if having to score out of 10 maybe a 4/10

Been to this restaurant a few times, the atmosphere, food and staff are always excellent. This time was no different. Initially 2 of the steaks were cooked wrong. No dramas! Taken away and redone perfectly. the staff couldn't have been better, spent the rest of the night making it up to us, complimentary desserts, coffees and drinks - for which there was really no need! And then when the bill came, they didn't charge for the 2 steaks! Highly recommended, back next week for our wedding anniversary!!!

However, even if we had to pay full price we certainly would like to go again. It was a lovely experience eating in this restaurant.

We went for a meal on Saturday night & we were looking forward to it especially when we checked out the menu online. The actual menu was very different but we still had a good choice. The girl who greeted us was really chatty & friendly making us feel welcome as we were seated in the bar with menus to peruse while she brought us drinks. She then took our order & were then moved to our table. Our food arrived within minutes. We really enjoyed the chicken liver parfait starter but were glad we had a bread roll as the ciabatta it came with is a hard crisp bread. My hubby ordered steak as a main which came with gorgeous home made chips but he wasn't keen on the onion rings as they were very tart. I had seabass which was gorgeous & came with a ratatouille style veg & scrummy gnocchi. Service was very efficient but very impersonal. There wasnt much atmosphere as there was no background music just the noise of a fan & a bleeping along with a moany child. We were all done within an hour which may be good on a busy evening but it wasn't even half full so seemed a little rushed. Don't get me wrong they do not rush you but maybe the efficiency detracts a little sorry. The decor is lovely & the building is beautiful so the place feels a little special but the small personal touch is missing. Sorry.

I Decided to book a Day at the Races as a Treat for myself and Daughter, with a view to having a On Course Meal at one of their Restaurants and as Availability was limited we opted for the Old Weighing Room Restaurant with a Table Booking of 17.00hrs.The place was quite busy yet we only had to wait a Matter of Minutes before being shown to a Table. We ordered a couple of Drinks and the Manager promptly reminded the Staff to pour us both a Glass of Champagne,as having paid prior as part of a Package Deal this was also included in the price.Once we got our Drinks we were then given Menu,s to Order our 3 Course Meal from.I ordered the Chicken Parfait Starter, whilst my Daughter ordered the Tomato and Chilli Soup.We were also given Bread Rolls with a choice of White or Brown. For Mains we both opted for Coq au vin which came on a bed of Mash, served with baby Shallots and a baby leek. This was very nice and the Sauce was really tasty.Whilst awaiting an Opportunity to order our Desserts we could not help but notice that the after race entertainment by Simply Red had already started a little earlier than expected and when our Dessert order was taken we opted for the Chocolate Brownie and the Lemon Tart with Raspberries. Both were very Good especially the Latter and was very Tart and Refreshing. How much this would cost if booked separately i do not know but I paid £100 a Ticket for a 3 Course Meal,Entry into the County Stand and also the Entertainment of Simply Red afterwards which was very good indeed.Overall a really Good Day with a nice Meal too.

Went here with friends who love horse racing so the venue was special for them. The venue itself is lovely and we received a very warm welcome and attentive service from a man who we suspect was the manager. The food was ok but not great and not in keeping with the lovely surroundings. The veggie options consisted of cheese to start and cheese for mains - not very imaginative. The main was poor and most was left but no-one enquired if we were not happy. As we were entertaining friends we didn't create a fuss. Was asked for feedback via the venues own survey and conveyed all of this in private mode. Having had no acknowledgement or concern from them feel happy to share... They have had plenty of time to address our concerns in private.

Ate as a party of 8 on quiet saturday evening. There was a group in with a baby, who cried the whole time (i have small children, and wouldnt take them to a restaurant at 9pm on a saturday night) they really need a cut off point for under 12s to be in a suposed fine dining establishment. The wine we ordered came in glasses, not the bottles as we asked for. We were also waiting ages for service between courses for drinks. Food came out not cooked as ordered, my meal was fetched out with the said steaks, and left on the table, going cold, while everybody else was waiting. I had to send it back in end, why bring it if none of the other meals were ready anyway? one of our party ordered an expresso creme brulee for desert and a coffee was brought out. The side orders are £3.50 each, it was a very small portion of dauphinoise potatoes very nice, but barely enough for 1 person and tiny pan of watery cabbage and a few under cooked spring onions? come on!when your paying extra for things are usually included with your meal, i was expecting a lot more in quantity and quality, for the vegetables especially. The food was nice, small portions for the money, not hot enough for me, but not cold enough to send back. Its a lovely setting, with huge potential. they are trying to be fine a dining eatery and are charging fine dining prices, but the service and attention to detail is very lacking, need a few experienced members of waiting staff

My husband had an OK minestrone soup but a fabulous ribeye steak as main. We were stuck for choice on desserts and all thoroughly enjoyed our choices. We will definitely come again. Why not 5 dots - served coffee before dessert and never came to collect payment - we had to go to bar, and one waitress not good at remembering exactly the drinks we ordered - but mistakes courteously and quickly rectified. 4 of us ate here, one Saturday evening. The food was good, although one of the party returned his surf and turf which was just the steak: usually you get large juicy tiger prawns as the surf! However, we all agreed that, although the staff were obliging, friendly and polite, smiling as they served us, and obviously willing to please, they would really benefit from some training, perhaps a visit to a really good restaurant would indicate to waiters, maitre d', bar staff and chef what can be achieved to make an evening even better.

First of all, this is probably by far the most posh restaurant in Doncaster, and is great for treating family members/friends or any of the such. I do love the fact they do alter the menu around depending on what season it is, can be slightly disappointing if you do go just after they changed their seasonal menu; and you had already pre-planned what you would of wanted on the previous season menu. To state, if you are not willing to pay out a bit of money, do not go here. It is expensive food compared to most Doncaster Restaurants, but the quality and the price does resemble of your typical good restaurant in London. The starter and main was brilliant (I sadly cannot remember what I had since it was last summer; and currently their spring menu is up hence cannot see what I probably had) but one issue we did have was that the dessert was kind of a waste of money; the mains and starters was home-made however the dessert had a few shop-bought elements to it. Otherwise, would recommend again; and probably will be going this summer as well!

There is a dog friendly area inside therefore we were able to have a nice drink and the most perfectly cooked Sunday dinner with our labradoodle regardless of the weather. A separate area is available for those without there best friend alongside. The chef obviously takes pride in creating an excellent traditional meal, he proudly plates your choice of 2 out of 3 meats available. Generous slices of moist meat are then complemented by your choice from several freshly cooked vegetables, nothing but perfectly cooked delightful and colourful vegetables. The gravy is also to die for and a cheese sauce tops this very delightful meal. I would happily pay twice the price. Get down to the Waterside Inn in West Sockwith, ITS AMAZING.
