Nice to sit out in the sun as a good-sized area with seating. Lots of hand pulled beers, good selection of spirits, and largers. Not had food so can't rate that one, staff always friendly, and nice atmosphere to boot thanks M&J

A great local pub selling quality drinks including a selection of real ales on draft.

Haven’t been to the Old Vol for a few months. The food was nice, The rest of the party thought their meat could’ve been better. Nicely decorated, helpful waiter. Unfortunately, like other reviews have pointed out from the minute you walk in you are warned of the time you have limit on your table, we were reminded many times but were served quite promptly, although it was in the back of my mind that we needed to keep within their timeframe. We had three courses and managed all but teas & coffees. We were asked to move into the bar which was fine. Unfortunately 20 minutes later the drinks hadn’t arrived and we were told that we only had a few minutes at the bar table before it was needed for a booking. The drinks arrived but I didn’t have time to drink my tea. Sadly, because of this, it ruined my son‘s birthday meal and I won’t be going back.

Great selection of drinks including real ale but nice to see Theakstone Mild back out there (it's a dying drink ) served by the lovely Cheryl a sight to behold, will deffinately be calling in again very soon.

Worst meal ever! They said on the sign home made food... well they served us pork pies! And they were stone cold! And it took them 15 minutes to serve us... we where si hungry and that is why we stayed. With pickled onions and mustard! And that was 15.85 for just 2! Then my son was still hungry so ordered another one they charged me 7.45! We are talking about pork pies here! with chips this time and after waiting 25 minutes the chips were too late we already ate the pies... horrible atmosphere and just not good service.

A wonderful local pub with a fine selection of real ales and other beers. Very friendly and efficient bar staff. Live music twice a week and a quiz on Sundays. I am absolutely thrilled and delighted that this is my local!

Cracking night at the "old vollo". Sunday is quiz night. Arrived at 8 and bagged the last table, so really busy but not in a bad way. The beers on tap were from a range of ales, from Flipside to Magpie plus a range of others. Pork pies were also available. Seems like there's music on Saturdays and judging by the atmosphere at the quiz I bet it's a cracking night. Medium car park with room for about 10 cars. Plenty of seating inside and outside too. Toilets looked clean. Generally a "proper" pub. Not many of them about now days.

Not the cheapest pint around but the staff are very good so worth a visit

Only called in for a quick one just as they opened the doors. Not a local but if in the area I would be in more for certain. Lovely pint to boot. Window seat to watch the world go by.

Nice dog friendly establishment to stop by to quench your dogs thirst giving you perfect cover quench your own. A nice quiet pub to sit down in or outside with crisps pork scratchings and nuts whilst having a nice drink.

My partner and I have had a terrible experience last night. It started with sexist remarks for a member of staff or friend od staff member. THEN they wouldn't serve food although it said on the menu that it was available upto 8pm. THEN the bar was unattended for maybe 10minutes whilst all the staff went for a cigarette THEN they refused to serve us altogether!! THEN they all followed us out of the door to continue cause even more upset. Terrible, Disgusting experience!

Nice atmosphere. Food was well made. The burgers are good with a wide choice of both meats and sides as part of the meal.

Great selection of ales and all in good condition - spoiled for choice. Friendly relaxed atmosphere. Must be one of Nottingham's best pubs and there is quite a lot of competition.

The Volunteer is a great example of an old style pub doing well. A great selection of Flipside ales as well as other brewery ales available. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere feels welcoming which with a lot of local pubs just lately lack.

Great little pub, great selection of real ales and whiskies especially. Doesn't really do food but has selection of specialist pork pies and sausage rolls (I think). Also has a burger night in Thursdays. Definitely worth a visit

A perfectly good pub. The staff are really personable, which is a good marker. They often have good ales on and run a nice little beer festival.

I been coming to The Old Volunteer for years I love the friendly atmosphere. The staff are lovely and helpful. The Beer is great and I love Flipside which the Dunkin family brew. It’s a pub where all ages mix this is especially true for the pub quiz . Keep up the great work , best pub in Nottinghamshire.

We have just had a excellent meal at Old Volunteer Caythorpe. The food was delicious, the staff were simply perfect and nothing was to much trouble. The ambiance and pianist really created a special atmosphere and the beautiful Mothers gift just finished off a wonderful afternoon. We will definitely be returning soon. 🥰

Went into this pub for the first time ever last night. It was quiz night so I thought, why not. It was a lovely atmosphere with a mix of all ages. Bar staff were friendly and welcoming and all smiling which is nice to see. They carry a fantastic range of beers and although not a big beer drinker myself, I would assume caters for the most eclectic of tastes. The pub is dog friendly too. The only one negative, and it's trivial, is the quiz PA is very poor. Half the pub couldn't hear the questions! Anyway I will return.

Beautiful food Friendly staff Expensive though and portion size very small and you definitely needed to order lots of (expensive Parmesan chips £6) sides. Good atmosphere though just be prepared for high prices.

Love this bar. Great beer and a great welcome every time.

We are as two couples for mains, desserts and drinks. The bill came to £150, not bad. The service was impeccable and the food was very good too. We'd definitely return.

Good straight forward ordering via text and not rubbish aps that don't work properly and bleed both the pub and customer for commission. Good social distancing compliance that is not rocket science. Good seating area at road level and higher up under gazebo in car park area. Oh yes, did I mention great beer too.... They have great beer too 👍🏼

Saw on your F/B Page you had a visit from Gedling Borough Environmental Health and they said they were happy with your Covid-19 safety measures , Well it's a good job they didn't give you a return visit last evening , We waited at the door so we could give our contact details , Nobody around , Someone sat at a table said just sit down , So we did , looking around to try and get someones attention no such luck BUT the tables of 3 , 4 and 5 ( Which i can't believe were all from the same household ) were all being looked after also People coming in from outside from the exit ( NOT GOOD ) Also not wearing face coverings when walking around the pub , After waiting for 10 minutes we decided to leave ( You may be thinking only 10 minutes ) But in that time we wasn't even acknowledged that we was there , You need to sort yourself out because we could quite easily had been from the council paying you a return visit .

Friendly, local pub. Mainly sells Flipside and Magpie brewery beers/ales but a range of other beers and ciders are also available. Has a nice outdoor area great during summer. Also holds beer festivals a couple of times a year under normal circumstances.

Have been to The Old Volunteer a couple of times and been impressed with the staff and cleanliness of the pub. Good selection of beers including Flipside ales. There are lots of benches outside, even in the car park during these Covid-19 days, meaning its been possible to have a pint in the sunshine during the nice weather we have had recently.

Stopped here for quick pint while the car was getting an MOT staff was nice and friendly

Good pub , good atmosphere but this place could be so much better if they had a half decent food menu. They offer a range of beers and lagers and more , live entertainment but lack food menu .
