The Burnt Stump in Gedling

Came with the Mrs and dog had a lovely walk around the woods, then went in the pub for some food and a drink where we was greeted by the really friendly staff, the dog even got a handful of treats. Top marks burntstump!

The food and service were pretty good but the place itself was absolutely disgusting. Broken filthy furniture. The bathrooms were deplorable. I dread to think what the kitchen looks like

Nice pub. Food was good, but the steak was a little tough with a gristle running through it. But that is often the way with steaks. Had an excellent burger here a few weeks ago though, and the rest of our small party were happy with their food. Very dog friendly with treats, water and a dog menu. Nice views, easy parking and a nice walk right outside the door.

We've been to celebrate a birthday and pre-cooked the table, the pub is dog friendly. Atmosphere was lovely in the pub and service was friendly and quick. Food was hot and delicious and all 5 meals were eaten in full, (3 meals were the Thursday steak and drink offer). Enjoyed the atmosphere so much we stayed for dessert. Thanks we will be back.

It used to be a good pub to dine in and have a few drinks but lately it has gone down hill and specialy the manager is very rude too. I also got a parking fine which there it used to be a free parking and also none of the staff never told me anything to register my car in the system even though I spoke to the pub manager today and she was very rude and not helpful at all. I think they are trying to make some money through the parking fines now because they have lost all the customers with their bad service and the poor quality of food. We used to go there very often but never again .

Food was greasy and over cooked

I have frequented the Burnt Stump for many years. The service has usually been excellent. It started to decline about 3 years ago and has not recovered. The problem lies with the management of the serving staff. While the food is very good. The tables are often dirty and left uncleared. I visited again today at about 2-30pm. The bar staff bordered on rudeness. What with their yes no answers they couldnt have been less welcoming. The Burnt Stump is desperately in need of refurbishment, so is the floor staff. Food, no problem.

Such a shame what's happened to this place over the last 5 years or so. The place is falling apart, and while the staff who are there try to do the best they can, there's simply not enough of them. I'm sure covid is mostly to blame, but it needs some investment - now!

Terrible food. The place looks like it’s been abandoned. No care for there furniture. Implemented private companies to charge you if you don’t sign your car in. Therefore forcing you to go inside when you just want to go for a walk. The car park shouldn’t even be allowed to be called one as it’s full of pot holes and uneven ground. for people who have been coming here for years then get fined as your not aware of the change is a big put off. So I won’t be visiting again.

Great food reasonably priced, it has become a goto when coming back from Nottingham. Dogs very much welcome which is nice

Large party of 10, some ordered at the bar, some on the app. Pub was very busy but service and food were good.

They do a dog menu, free treats and blankets for the dogs.

Really disappointing. Booked a table which was occupied when we arrived so staff had to move people. Was seated right next to the pool table, so close was it to our table that my friend was almost hit in the head by people playing and had to dodge pool ques. Walked up to the bar only to wait for 15 minutes and be routinely ignored by bar staff. Other staff doing pointless jobs whilst the par is packed (like stacking mugs?) Leaving one staff member to try and serve everyone. Pub is very run down. Menu has been significantly reduced, so not much choice. In the end we walked out and went somewhere else without ordering anything. Such a shame. Really poor service.

This is such a lovely homely pub. Very family and dog friendly, but also a lovely relaxed atmosphere for date night. Me and my husband visited for tea with our 7 year old son last week. We had two steaks and a children's bbq chicken burger. The food was delicious, chips so crispy but fluffy inside, and steaks cooked perfectly as requested. There is a dog menu too, if you want to include your pup. Water bowls available and a station to buy dog treats from. We love coming here in the summer too as there's a park in the attached woods for kids to play on and a lovely patio seating area with a big green for the kids to have a play on. Would definitely recommend.

Nice half term walk with the kids and pub lunch. Nice pie. Kids meals are a little on the small side, unless ur a toddler! Would go again as a nice afternoon out

First of, I feel that since my initial review this system has been spammed with false 5 star reviews. The pictures don't lie. Marstons really really need to invest some money into this place. Fantastic location and staff but it's in no fit state to be open. No hot water in the toilets, lets hope thats not the case in the staff facilities. Questionable stains on seats, seats filthy and threadbare and ripped with sharp staples exposed some with wobbly legs, tables need re varnishing. dire state of disrepair and needs closing down for a spruce up. Hate to think what the kitchen facilities look like if this is how the front of house is. First visit in many many years whilst passing. Not how I remembered it in my childhood summers living local. shan't be returning any time soon.. really sad that the brewery has allowed it to get to this. On the plus side every member of staff i come across was really freindly including the passionate manager. The food was fantastic and no complaints on that side. I shall also be forwarding this review to marstons themselves to try help get some funding for this place before summer..

Went there with a friend and it was amazing nothing was to much trouble the food was delicious and the service was good

Had a loverly meal tonight mega mixed grill was value for money well worth the wait , resturant was a nice busy night with most tables full great service from the loverly man behind the bar 👍 will be visiting again

Never been before Not going again The setting is really nice For dog walking ( watch out for the dog shit on the way in) Food was terrible Seemed to be only 2 staff on One was lovely the other had a face like a smacked arse,not rude but clearly not happy With what unsure 5 failed attempts to get a pepper pot with pepper in and Christmas menu still up Shame

Make sure you put your registration in the anpr system because there staff don't make you aware of it and the signs are really poor. I won't be going again

Staff super friendly, Quick service despite being busy and very clearly understaffed. Food tasted great and arrived nice and warm. Our dog got lots of special attention and made us feel very welcome, Will definitely be returning!

Have started charging to park without any warning ‼️ Dog walkers beware or you will end up with a £100 fine !! I certainly won’t be returning.

We ordered through the QR code on the table. The service was ok. However, after our starter, they brought the desert, which we had to send back as we're still waiting for mains. When we got the desert, I'm not actually sure that one of them was not what we ordered. Otherwise, lovely location and lovely atmosphere 👌

Best ive ever been to staff are the best chefs were dissapointed with the food and was wrong so they gave money back and gave us 2 free browneys must go the staff are so kind and the food is so good the atmosphere is mainly calm and relaxed also dog freindly with dog treats . you need to go here 11/10

Sorry but definitely not going back again. For starters the staff weren’t engaging, no atmosphere, clientele left a lot to be desired. If I’m out for lunch with friends then to me, swearing is not on the menu, or screaming kids. Our table was in the middle of both. The food was just ok, nothing particularly stood out. Very mediocre. Wish we hadn’t bothered. When I told someone we were going there face said it all, they said it wasn’t somewhere they would go but of course we had booked and it was the same day we were going and thought it wasn’t fair to cancel last minute. So we tried it for ourselves. Should’ve listened and cancelled, I don’t think they would have noticed or cared. No one checked if everything was ok Yes we should have complained there and then but we are voting with our feet and purses.

Great pub food and drinks and kids play area

This place is so welcoming, we came for Sunday lunch and were greeted at the door like old friends. The food was wonderful and there are plenty of water bowls for the dog too. Very comfortable relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Please be aware that there is a new pay and display for the park. I didn't notice and got a hefty fine 😢

Lovely country pub with great scenery. Dog friendly and they have a nice little menu for the dogs too. The food is lovely for pub food and well priced too. We loved the new menu and the Sunday roasts here are really nice.

Awful The good wasn't cooked properly the steak I ordered was still practically alive I ordered a medium and my youngest son's food wasn't even fully warm the loaded fries were cold and orders came out all over place and disorganised..Today I have stomach upset due to the food from last night . We asked for the table to be cleared we had to do it ourselves. Used to be such a great place to come with family over the years I'll never come again and never recommend.

Lovely stop off with open grounds. The food was top notch. Great for dog owners, and a nearby playground for kids.

It was my sons 22nd birthday and we had a party of 10 people. From arriving at Burnt stump we were greeted by friendly staff. Our food came all out together and was all beautifully presented and cooked lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. Didn't feel rushed to leave. A bonus also as got 30% off mains.

This is a pretty restaurant, with really friendly staff and nice, simple food with a good variety of different options to choose from. Its very dog friendly and is situated in a lovely place, to sit outside and eat, have picnics or go for a walk in the woods. .

We are a regular at burnt stump we find the staff are very friendly and the food is excellent, we don't have any complaints and this is why we keep coming back.

Lovely warm welcome from very friendly staff who can't do enough to help. Clean warm pub with plenty of room. Food menu has a wide choice and is cooked to order. Food is presented nicely and good quality. My order was slightly wrong but rectified very quickly with many apologies. Overall a great experience

Best Sunday Dinner I've had in ages, and they looked after us and the dogs. Put us and the Yorkies on a great table so they were safe. Thanks to the pink haired manager was a great experience

I have been coming to the park for over 20 years with my dogs. Just found out about the new parking thing. I come every day and until yesterday I had not even noticed it. So now you have to go inside to register your car, even if you are only there with your dog. This is rediculous and others agree. Also your silly signs are wrong. I am disabled with a blue badge. According to your sign I get free parking as long as I park in designated areas??.. What rubbish, you do not have such areas and parking is free for everyone. This along makes your own signs total nonsense. You are chasing people away from the park and hence from your pub. What made you think this was a good idea?

The food is amazing, the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming and the staff go above and beyond. Buy one get one free deal is very good and dogs are allowed in the premises, but all dogs are well behaved and you are almost unaware of them! Great for occasions but equally good for a relaxed family meal. Highly reccomend It!

Lovely location, especially after a country walk. A really nice view out over the country park and cricket ground. I would look forward to visiting again in the Summer and sitting outside. Lovely refreshing pints and bar snacks. A very kid and dog friendly pub. £15 for 2 pints and a packet of snacks. Menu looks exciting and well priced. Look forward to coming back for breaky.

I did a surprise birthday party for my cousin for 15 people 2 days before Christmas. The food was amazing not like your microwave spoons type prober fresh food . The staff was amazing very friendly, could not complain a about anything definitely going again soon

I think it was really disorganised, I think its wrong that you wasn't going to cater for all children's dietary needs, not all kids will eat a full English breakfast! I think the Santa was younger than myself! Oh and the food was cold. Will not be coming again

Gemma was a brilliant host. No one likes a big group but she was patient, helpful and incredibly willing to meet everyone’s needs and all with a smile!!! We were made properly welcome and had a lovely lunch!

My daughter and (now) son in law had their wedding reception here on saturday 14th dec 24, and i cannot praise the landlady and her staff enough, from meeting us at the entrance, to the buffet, which was plenty of choices and lots of, which covered for guests with dietery needs too to the very pleasant waiters /waitress comming around with the drinks for the toast, this was a very special and an emotional day for all and i can honestly say it was perfect from start to finish, and i believe this was the first wedding reception they had done well done to the landlady and her staff, a very big thank you 🤎🤎

We visit the burnt stump every year on our anniversary. We always feel calm here. It's a welcoming and cosy atmosphere the staff are always really kind and the food is really tasty. Never disappoints x

Friendly staff but the pub was cold

The staff member who served me and my family at the bar was miserable and didnt look or sound like she even wanted to be at work that night. We used a voucher offer and when my mum questioned something about her receipt; the staff member again sounded miserable and sounded like a stroppy teenager with her response when talking to my mum. As we left as well; my partner thanked the staff member behind the bar but she was too busy on her phone to even acknowledge him which I thought was rude. Poor service and your staff have very poor attitudes and lack customer service skills so maybe a bit of training on manners wouldn’t go a miss.

The staff messed up an order. I went to tell them. First staff member wandered off never to be seen again. The manager ignored me. Got a half arsed apology. Avoid the pub, but the park is nice. Edit: they missed a meal completely off the order. It was a burger without salad but tomato. Everyone else eating their food and that guy had to sit there and watch everyone eat. Then the burger came after a couple of failed attempts to tell them about it. It included salad, so it had to go back and came back with no salad, no tomato. Again an horrendous time trying to explain this to disinterested staff. Then eventually they come back and say you can't have a slice of tomato. Its the attitude of the staff. They are aloof. The manager on the end of the bar, sorting out tables on a laptop. Does she not have an office? If she doesn't want customers coming up to her, what's she doing standing by the bar? She just ignored me twice. You only had one menu printed for the kids so we had to use it and give it back. Your staff are either young, stupid or simply do not care.

Not the best experience, no check back was done on my food and there was gristle in my lasagne. I asked for no salad dressing and was given a tomato only.

Lovely food and very friendly staff. We are positively surprised as last time we visited place seemed to be going downhill. It must be that it’s under new management and doing amazing now :) Had a really superb roast dinner, crispy roast potatoes, tasty veg and gravy. Good value for money and we'll be back for sure.

We were a table of 10 coming for Sunday roast. Service and all team members were very efficient but also friendly. Even with an issue with our order it was resolved swiftly. We were all expecting slightly below par “pub grub” but all of our meals were lovely. The whole turkey roast meal was delicious, piping hot, and the meat was succulent and lots of it! Exceeded our expectations.

A great atmosphere and welcoming pub/restaurant, the food was fantastic and very reasonably priced with ample seating space for our party of 6, including 3 children, one of which was in a highchair. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the option to order at the bat or online via the scanner on the table made ordering easy. Would definitely (and are planning to) go again soon!

Me and my family went for a drink and to sit outside. I ordered our drinks by scanning the qr code on the table and was pleasantly surprised when they arrived what only felt like 5 minutes later! Very simple and fantastic friendly service as always.

Ok country pub good value on food welcomes dogs

Mixed grill meat was very fatty and a chicken breast that was just cut in half looks ridiculous Not enough mushrooms, onion rings tough and slimy Sausage with the sausage and mash very disappointing

My daughter and I came in on the off chance of a light bite and some warmth.. we were greeted by the manager, Gemma/Jemma. She had an amazing smile, great vibe and was able to seat us next to the radiators and whacked the heating back on. Staff were attentive and lovely. Great family friendly pub, reasonably priced food and a very warming atmosphere 😉🥰

Great food, genuinely dog-friendly staff, beautiful location and views and perfect after exploring the adjacent country park. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch with our black Labrador who was sitting comfortably beneath our table and was given a refreshing bowl of water to drink. Would definitely recommend!
