We have been here many times over the years and looked forward to our visit again this year. What a disappointment. We had a cream tea which consisted of a pot of tea, 2 scones, butter, cream and jam. The jam and cream pots were half the size they used to be and the butter was barely there, adequate enough for one scone but certainly not two. The jug of milk supplied did not have enough milk for one cup of tea and we had to ask for extra. I do not drink tea and asked for my tea to be substituted with coffee, big mistake, it was undrinkable. Went we went to pay we were told 'cash only' and I was lucky to find some cash in the bottom of my bag. This should be made clear when you enter and before you order as a lot of people do not carry cash. Our experience was so different to every other visit we wondered if there were 'new owners' but overheard the owner telling other visitors that she had been there 17 years. Sadly will not be returning.

We ate here twice and loved it having previously visited before! The garden is magical, the service is friendly, and the food is beautifully made. There are always little touches added to the food/drinks to make them feel as though they are made especially for you, and we would definitely visit again. The old thatch teashop is such a magical place that any fairy lover should visit. They have a vast menu and the garden gets lots of sun in the afternoon too. Would recommend for families, couples, or anyone who loves a pretty place to eat.

A really pretty building. Our little one unfortunately wasn’t fussed with the fairy garden, but we thought it was cute. A good selection of sandwiches, jackets and scones. We all enjoyed our food which was fresh and quick. Will visit again.

We have visited the Tea Rooms every time we visit the IOW either on our own or with family We always get a very warm welcome and the food is always excellent, I normally have a all white meat crab sandwich but whatever you decide it’s definitely the best sandwich you will ever get, the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I have a saying give it a try and see if you like it, if you don’t like it then you don’t go back, it’s simple but we have visited the same place over and over again and we always have lunch at the Tea Rooms every time we visit, lovely place lovely food great prices for lovely food Thank you the Shanklin Tea Rooms

The staff are lovely here, but I found the cakes and scones were overpriced, fairly average and also I was really disappointed that the grass in their garden was artificial plastic! I went in because it said it was an award winning tea place with a wonderful garden but it would be so much lovelier if there was real grass, and so much better for the wild life too!

What a shame my mother wanted to come here, but we sat down & it smelt Damp food was just horrible ploughmans Lu ch over priced No salad no Branston pickle but strawberries? Apple was tiny slice dessert of Victoria sponge inedible , Stale on the side was squirt cream , and raspberry sauce that you put on ice cream? 🙄 my husband had soup which was very peppery Not nice very overpriced ! Been coming to the island for 15 years the worst food we have had such a shame

Called into The Old Thatch for a snack. My friend and I both decided on scones and sat in the pretty garden thoroughly enjoying them. The scones were very fresh and very tasty - I had the savoury cheese ones. It was so pleasant in the garden we ordered a further drink before heading to the area where payment is taken. My friend and I both live on the Island and love trying out the restaurants and tearooms but we have never before encountered such a rude and obnoxious woman as the one taking our payment. Whether it was because neither of us had actual cash (large notices saying cash preferred) or whether she was just in a bad mood, her whole attitude has ensured that we will not be returning.

The concept is cute but badly executed. Everything is done cheaply including spray painting foliage with bright neon colours (badly!). Very cheap plastic tables and chairs with tacky plastic table clothes are rammed into the garden, leaving not even an inch between you and the guests at the next table, this makes it very hard if you want to get up to use the toilet. The women owner seems incredibly unhinged and the man who works alongside her seems absolutely petrified of both her and customers. We sat in the garden with our friends and our dogs. My dog is a nervous elderly rescue who has hip issues, meaning if he sits on a hard floor he quickly becomes in pain and will let everyone know about it. As I typically do in dog friendly places, I sat slightly back from the table with him on my lap, the woman owner scorned me and said he can't be there due to 'health and safety', if this was the case then most establishments on the island would be shut down as everyone allows well-behaved dogs to sit on laps, especially outside. I explained my dog's issues and still she said no, my dog was on the floor barking, at which she then complained about. These people shouldn't advertise themselves as dog friendly when they clearly don't like or understand dogs at all. I ordered an afternoon tea and asked to have green tea instead of English breakfast, the woman told me with a very snide look that it would be extra, I told her I was fine with paying extra and she looked angry that I was willing to provide more money to her business with this change. I said if it was a problem I would happily take the English breakfast and have a green tea on the side at an extra cost and she just walked away in a huff. When my tea arrived, my cup was dirty, no big deal as I understand dishwashers aren't fool proof, I asked the gentleman server for a new cup and he practically exploded with nerves at the idea and couldn't handle the request well. The food is average at best

What a lovely find this quaint tearoom on visit to Shanklin with my daughter. We sat in the garden which had nice umbrellas to provide shade on a hot day. We decided to have sandwiches followed by a cream scone. The sandwiches ( egg mayonnaise, and brie, grape and cranberry) came with salad and crisps and were delicious. The two fruit scones which we shared came with butter, clotted cream and jam and a pot of tea. The food was nicely presented and fresh. Food was reasonably priced. A lovely find and would recommend trying.

We visited the tea room at the start of July 2023, obviously attracted by the pink exterior! I was with my husband, in laws and nearly 5 year old son. The cream tea was absolutely amazing, who doesn’t love heart shaped scones!? Very reasonably priced and in the most beautiful setting! The interior is stunning, so many knickknacks to look at, attention to detail is this tea shops forte! My son Reuben ordered chocolate cake and the staff even wrote his name in chocolate sauce on the plate, it was such a nice touch! Staff are brilliant, friendly and nothing is too much for them. The fairy garden is lovely, as well as the hand made gifts they have. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back, it met all our expectations of a traditional afternoon tea!

The wonderful (and patient) ladies at the Old Thatch helped me to surprise my best friend during her honeymoon on the IOW. After arriving earlier than planned they helped us to make sure everything went well and we had the most yummiest of Victorian afternoon...

This kind of tea room isn't our usual thing - a bit too frilly and fussy for our taste. But we stopped in for a cup of tea on a day when Shanklin was so crowded we coudn't get in anywhere else and were pleasantly...

This place is famous for its views across the Solent, but only in the summer. In the winter the windows are always steamed up giving you near to no visibility outside. We didn’t eat but the menu looks good and average prices for the area. Drinks were more expensive than the Seaview Hotel just around the corner. +£1 per drink on gin & tonic. It was November on a Friday evening and all tables were reserved. We did sit at one of their best tables for our drink ‘Captain Ted’s Table’ and it was wobbly as hell. Felt like it was going to give way at any time. Come on this is an easy fix.

Remember coming to this pub with my family when I was ten so had to come back 40 odd years later. Disappointed the coffin by the door was gone 😂 but it was a real highlight of our trip. Our dogs were welcomed and fussed over and the food at lunch was amazing, so tasty. Really friendly staff and all the facilities were spotless. Fantastic views over the garden too. A lovely trip down memory lane

Nice busy cafe, lots going on with a lot of choice to make your own baguette. Popular with the locals for lunch who fancy an upgrade from a morrisons meal deal.
