Popped in for a quick Cappuccino and tea cake as I was passing through Barmouth on a lovely sunny day. Was lucky to get chance to sit outside (they have those cute wrought iron table and chairs that your Grandmother always has) - nice place to watch the activity back and forth on the street. Cappuccino was reasonable, but the tea cake was large and had plenty of butter. The place has kept the patina and styling from yesteryear! Worth a look if you are after something reminding you of a tea room back in the day.

We had a great welcome and good food, my intolerances to cetain foods were taken on board and they happily compiled something not on the menu. The references to 'the man' being rude in other comments are unfounded, I'd say that his sarcasm may have lost something in translation as although some may consider him curt, he had good intentions throughout.

Walked into this cafe today and had a terrible welcome by the man working. (Probably say he was the owner). Absolute D…head of a man who made unnecessary comments to my children before we had even sat down. We ordered some lunch and a cafetière the coffee arrived it was clear the coffee beans hadn’t been blended and there was a mix of coffee crumble between the filter so it had bits in it, was the colour of dirty water and tasted like it if I’m honest. Tried to tell someone but the owner was to busy smoking up and down the street. Wouldn’t return as coffee especially a cafetière is a simple drink. Food was good just very let down by the service and coffee

It sometimes pays to take a few steps back from the main area of food establishments. The Old Tearooms is a case in point. Although a little tired looking in places I can’t fault the food in its quantity or quality. Most home produced and boy, how tasty. Give it a go, we did and loved the two teas and two bacon butties. I haven’t seen bacon sliced that thick in years. Yum!!

Went in with three children and the "waitress" was very brief with us. They were busy in the sense that most tables were full, but it's a small place so it doesn't take many people to look busy. After 15 mins waiting for had to ask to be served and got a very brisk answer. Then when we asked how long food would be we were told "I've no idea". The food was basic but perfectly nice. We didnt mind waiting for it, just how rude and impolite the waitress woman was made us feel so unwelcome. People don't mind waiting if you're just nice about it. It's really not hard to smile.

In search of somewhere for a quick cuppa and possibly a slice of cake (we were on holiday so as we all know, calories don't count!), my friend and I chanced upon The Old Tea Rooms in Barmouth housed in a building dating back to the early eighteenth century. We called in late one Saturday afternoon recently whilst following the Heritage Trail which a local retailer had recommended to us. i can honestly say that both (ie the tea rooms and heritage trail) greatly enhanced our visit to this delightful Welsh coastal resort. The tea rooms lived up to their name, but in a good way! We were greeted by a very friendly lady who made us feel very welcome. As we were in Wales, we were keen to try Bara Brith which i believe means speckled bread. We were told that there are in fact two types, so we tried both! The first slice resembled a fruit cake and the other was more like a toasted fruit loaf. Both delicious especially when accompanied by a pot of tea and dainty china tea cups - which reminded me of my nan! We subsequently discovered that Barmouth has many interesting buildings, this being one of them and I would definitely recommend it if you are in need of some old world charm.

On our way home from Beddgelert to Penybont, we drove along the beautiful coastline and thought we'd stop in Barmouth for a little refreshment. The top end of this quaint town was heaving with families enjoying their holidays, but further down the road, towards the bay, this lovely tearoom attracted us as it appeared quiet, welcoming and cosy. What a great little place, ideal for couples or small groups. There was a good selection of Bara Brith, Welsh Cakes, lemon meringue and Victoria Sandwich (which I had) served with a very tasty pot of tea. All the cups and saucers are an eclectic mix of traditional Bone China, which allows the tea to taste even better! If you want something more substantial, there's a selection of great value sandwiches, soups, lite bites and Specials on the board at between £5 - £8 ! Our huge pot of tea, lemon meringue and cake cost about £ 7 The Atmosphere was lovely and you can take your dog too.

Popped in for the 1st time. Selected the homemade soup and a sandwich as a lite bite. Fantastic value at £4.50 a head. The soup was flavoursome and hot. There was a choice of 4 sandwich fillings. I chose the ham, thick cut ham on fresh bread, served with a salad garnish and crisps. Fantastic flavousome food at a great price. We decided to have the apple pie to finish, what a great choice. Not the normal mush inside, big thick chunks of apple with a choice of being served with Cream, Ice cream or custard. A gem of a place to eat in Barmouuth. Will re visit

Although Barmouth itself is a bit tired and run down (like a lot of UK sea side towns) and although today was a hot sunny day with plenty of folk around half the eateries in town were closed so the choice was limited. As one of a group of very wet Ramblers, who turned up out of season on a wet afternoon, dripping all over their floor, it was great to receive such a friendly welcome. Enjoyed my cream tea and my friends the selection of cakes with proper teas (good choice) and cafetiere coffee. Nice traditional, no nonsense tea room with friendly chatty staff. As we left a group of equally wet, spattered mountain bikers turned up outside - do you think they will let us in they asked? No problem, was the response - so if walking or cycling the many trails around Barmouth and you fancy a cuppa and cake for a non fancy price you could do a lot worse.

Went to this cafe for a quick lunch. Asked for our standard lunch option, soup and bread. We were offered tomato or lentil which sounded good. We chose one of each. The 'chef' duly opened two tins of soup, put them in a microwave, found the two rolls most like cotton wool which could ever have existed and served them up. At such a quiet time of year homemade soup should have been a minimum. Very disappointing. The cafe was clean and tidy and the service quietly efficient but the cook needs changing.

When we walked in we saw no other customers and the waitress was hoovering. As such I assumed they were closed, the fact that she did not even look up to us just confirmed my thoughts. However as we were about to leave she looked up and so I apologised and that I thought they were closed. She informed me that they were not and so we took up a table outside. No one came to serve us however and we had to return inside to get a menu.Having looked at the menu we decided on the Warm welsh cakes with out any butter and went back inside to order. They came out approx 10 mins later with two plates of 2 welsh cakes. The top one on each pile was warm and soft however the bottom one was cold, hard and stale. Old tea rooms is probably the worst place I have experienced in a long time . Miserable staff and food that frankly must be an embarrassment to serve. Everything microwaved even the cucumber looked like it had taken a spin. When we complained clearly it wasn't a worry because we probably weren't local and not coming back !! Well the latter is very true and I implore anybody reading this not too either . If I owned the Old Tea rooms I would probably sell up and go and do something that made me a little happier and did not include inflicting standards and food from the 1950 's. Anyway I hope the £25 you got from me bought a little cheer .

Service poor, cream tea awful. The staff were gassing in the kitchen for every visitor that came into the tea rooms, seemed disinterested in serving anyone, and only slightly more bothered about taking your money. The scone with the cream tea was microwaved, the cream tasted of nothing (and most certainly wasn't clotted cream as it should have been!) and the jam was a cheap, jelly like substance that may have met a strawberry once, many moons ago. We waited ages to be served, ages for our drinks, ages for our food. The staff hid in the kitchen smashing plates every so often, clearly stressed so it was impossible to find out what was happening. When it arrived, only three out of the four meals arrived. When we queried this, there was no apology and she said we were the last in on a busy day as if it was our fault! Then my daughter tried her salad and two pieces of yellow pepper were soggy, one tasted mouldy. We would have let this go, but when my husband went to pay and asked for something off for the general and specific delay he got an deluge of defensive stuff about 'it's not fast food here, you know'. He's very polite my husband so this was really puzzling. So he brought up the peppers and she got really defensive then . . . . she reluctantly gave him £4 off by which time my daughters were long gone with their faces aflame. Hmmm, one to avoid apart from the food, which was average to good.
