Well, the Old Tea House appears permanently closed and the village has lost a great asset and social hub . For the last year, the venue has appeared extremely confused about what it wants to be and who it is catering for. Clearly its former customer base felt the same and have stayed away in their hordes. This has been a tea room for as long as I remember- I recall coming here as a child decades ago and I think it is a tragic loss to the village. It is a wonderful spot to sit outside and watch the world go by or to sit inside in inclement weather. The best thing the owner could do for the village is to sell or lease it to someone who wants to bring the soul back. Tragic.

Often use the Old Tea House for a drink having walked around the town and the Meon valley trail in Wickham. Now owned by the Quob Park estate it still serves a good range of coffees and teas plus a cake or two. Prices are decent and service efficient. I know it can get busy but we often visit outside of peak.

Terrible meal waited 90 minutes for our Luke warm food. Watched it being bought across from the kitchen opposite in the old house hotel. Overly expensive £15 for three lukecwar prawns. Was still hungry after spending £90.

We were in Wickham and went to the Old Tea Rooms for lunch on a Friday. The restaurant was nearly empty and there were several wait staff around, but getting a table was a slow process. This should have been our first clue. The menu is bog-standard - nothing special. Very very little for vegetarians. We waited a long time for our order to be taken. So long in fact that 2 other couples came in, looked at the menu and left again before we, or they, had their order taken. The food was unremarkable and over priced. I don’t like to leave food on my plate but didn’t finish my meal. Waste of money and I wouldn’t think about going back.

We went here for a catch up lunch with family. We were seated upstairs, and I had to move a high chair that had been left next to the table to get in to my seat. We were handed a menu and told we could only have things off the breakfast menu as all the meals and sharing platters were not available! There were two types of sandwich and soup in addition. We ordered 3 breakfasts but the ordering was chaotic, we needed a vegan sausage on one, which totally threw the waiter, in fact he had to come back to reiterate the orders. Still two arrived with the wrong things on and had to be redone, we only had 2 saucers with 3 cups, we had to ask for hot water, salt and pepper, sugar and a spoon. The food we had was just passable, but my husband's sausage was terrible and the toast was just sliced bread. The staff were very smartly dressed but that was all we could say was good. I very poor experience and we most certainly will not go near it again!

Stuck to decide from so much choice? May I recommend the Artisan Scotch Egg with Piccalilli salad? A tad expensive, but you get what you pay for, as the saying goes - delicious - take it slowly - savour it - heavenly!

I am surprised by the poor reviews, but it seems the locals miss the tea shop. As visitors to Wickham wanting a sandwich and a glass of wine at lunchtime we saw the Tea Room and noticed it was also a Bistro , a strange concept and almost didn’t go in as we didn’t want a tea room for lunch. BUT we are so glad we did, the second we walked in we were given a very warm welcome, left to look around and then we were asked if we would like to look at a menu before we decided to stay , so much better than being sat down at a table and then having the awkwardness of leaving when you don’t like the menu. Within minutes we both saw several things we would opt for so we asked for a table. We were then given another menu as well for Tapas. We could have chosen it all ! Sharing platters, sandwiches , Tapas , Fish. The menu was great. We chose the Cheese and Ham Croquettes with the Artisan Bread board and it was superb , the croquettes were home made as was the dip and the best croquettes we have ever eaten and the bread was warm , fresh ,served with butter olive oil and 3 types of salt ! The wine choice very interesting as you chose it from a cabinet ! Superb place , great food and great service , can’t wait to go back !

On a misty Saturday afternoon, we’d walked along the old railway trail and wanted a drink and cake and unfortunately decided to stop at the Old Teahouse. We were shown to an upstairs table and told the waitress to leave us for a few minutes while we decided what we wanted. Well we waited and waited and waited until I decided to go down and ask if we could make an order. Another waitress came and took our order and we waited and waited and waited! When it came, the drinks and cakes were lovely but not worth the price. I would not recommend this place at all- it’s all very quaint and well presented but overpriced and the service was abysmal! Another couple wanted soup with bread but was told bread didn’t come with the soup! Have you ever known anywhere that serves soup without bread?! Find other coffee shops if in the area! Don’t waste your well earned cash here!

Quob have totally ruined this lovely tea rooms which were traditional & in keeping with the village. It is now a bistro/wine bar?! The seating was ridiculously low for the tables & the menu disappointing as we were wanting a cuppa & sandwich so walked out. Used to eat here a lot, will now not be returning. Such a shame.......

Ordered two slices of cake to take away. Order was taken & paid for & then the waitress disappeared. Waited ages for her to return & she eventually came back & took the cakes away to slice & box up. Only when I got home did I realise the tiny portions which were not particularly nice. Expensive & disappointing. Lillie’s was way better.

Bring back Lilys Traditional tea room please. ! Absolutely the worst decision since taken over by Quob Park to have the same menu as at there Vineyard. This is a tea room where people want Sandwiches , light lunches and home made cakes. We struggled to find something to eat and 4 tables of people sat down looked at menu and left for the reasons above. The cakes were poor and lunch small and expensive and to fussy. The staff uniform is like a funeral directors and not a cosy tea room feel . Why would you make these awful changes to a traditional tea room . Will not be returning unless it changes

Thought I would give this a try rather than a pub lunch. Not exactly what I was expecting as rather expensive. Ordered soup of the day, tomato and basil. When it arrived it was a very small bowl and I asked if there was bread to come? told I needed to order a bread platter. I have never had soup without bread, I was told that as there were croutons that should do. Even the staff were embarrassed, they said they have questioned it. Afraid I will not be returning.

I was inspired to write this review by seeing a Greggs eating numpty slamming the place for price. Yeah, they're not cheap but you're paying for quality ingredients and an amazing product which is value for money. For less than a fiver you're getting a huge sweet treat with complex flavours, a very satisfying, delightfully flaky pastry and a very satisfying and filling experience. If you want a hit of sugar and bland white, air filled bread? There are cheaper options! You won't get a limp chicken pasty here. If you want extremely satisfying bread made with high quality flour and an amazing crust? If you want tasty, sweet pastries with a delicious zing? If you love good food rather than ultra processed? Then this won't bust your budget and will fill you up. The venue itself is a warehouse with some benches other branches are much nicer.

Bit boring. Ok burger, nothing special, It feels like a helium balloon with half the air missing. You think it must have been quite impressive at some point, but not when I was there.... Also when the restaurant has the word friendly and Phil in the title, I dont expect to meet a guy called Phil but anticipate the staff would be a bit more lively.... They were not..... £26.50 for a day pass, although asked for £30 which includes donation. Our party was made up of 5 adults - we didn’t donate. To put into context, my husband and I have been members of Marwell in our days before our children. It holds a special place in our hearts. We moved away but always managed to make at least 2 visits a year as the children grew up & still do - the kids are now into their 20’s and often visit with us. Sadly the experience over the last 10 -15 years has progressively gotten worse. Every time we go we hope it will be better. Marwell was always at the forefront of conservation and education & had an extremely successful breeding program for the rhinos and giraffes. Much money has been spent on enclosures that didn’t work, the snow leopards, the cheeta, the walkway over the persian leopard, now cloud leopard, the new tropical house, the gibbon enclosure, kids play areas. Now it is a shell. Few animals, lots of paddocks full of weeds, & plastic bottles & little or no information. The annual membership is a steal but place feels more of a kiddies play area than a serious home for conservation and education. It’s expensive and disappointing. Bit on context - The Cotswold Wildlife Park is £19 for an adult. A much smaller facility but full of animals and information & staff happy to help and answer questions.
