The Old Station Inn in Bath and North East Somerset

Our first visit. What a great way to spend an evening with your nearest and dearest!! Fabulous, filling food in the restaurant which is a converted train carriage. The staff are kind and attentive. The main area of the old pub is full with interesting artefacts - always good talking points. We are coming back again!

This was a fabulous find - the lovely authentic railway carriage was warm, private and intimate, the menu appealed to my family group and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals, which was colourful and well presented. The desserts were as equally yummy. We also saw sight of the up and coming autumn and Christmas menus - definitely be back

Nice pub & rooms. Friendly owners & worth going there for the food in the converted railway car. Beer is the usual local ales & keg lagers. It's a great location for visiting the Chew Valley lakes & surrounding countryside. Good value 👍

Fabulous meal in the old railway carriage. Good food, excellent value. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming. It's a shame the rooms need a makeover - damp, old mattresses with toppers, mould - but really recommend the food and pub which are worth visiting over and over again.

I feel guilty writing this review because I should have said something at the time. Wonderful and friendly greeting and quirky, jolly ambiemce. The Pullman train carriage restaurant seating area is a brilliant touch, but the person who painted the outside could have removed the large splodges of reddish paint from the glass of the windows. I ordered a Thai seafood curry, which was more than ample, but I don't think the ingredients were all cooked together The very tasty sauce seems to have been put on the plate first, then a generous serving of rice in the middle. There were 2 large prawns 2 large scallops, a piece of salmon and a piece of white fish. The pieces of bok choi and the large slice of lotus were a good touch, but then it went way off piste - cabbage, carrots, courgettes and peas. The flavour of the sauce was good as I have said, but it remained with the sauce. The lotus root was pretty flavourless and the cabbage was - cabbage. Certainly different though.

Friendly welcome by the hosts. Atypical place where we had a very good dinner. Very clean bedroom. We fancy coming back

Room was clean and the bed was comfortable enough. Bathroom was adequate but shower had a leak. We felt it was over priced at £85 for one night. £65 would have made it worth it.

Fantastic pub. Full of stuff to look at. The staff were lovely. Just popped in for a drink and it felt very homely and nice. BIG UP!

A very disappointing meal. Staff were pleasant. Didn't even order from the "Recession Concession " menu but the a la carte and it was near inedible.

We ignored the reviews about the food as , we didn’t plan on eating here , we chose The station inn , because of its theme and closeness to where we would be over night , the room was tatty in places but clean , so we could live with that , but the bed ! , possibly the worst night sleep we both have had ever !, absolutely shocking , the what should of been a mattress was well past it , put a blanket on a rocky beach would of been far better , and less noise , every time you move it pinged and banged , to a point we could only laugh about it in the end .

Had an excellent meal here. Really good quality tasty food and top quality service.b

Rude landlady ,shouldnt be in the game if your not happy ,who wants to go to the pub to bump heads for no reason ,ignorant,rude upset all our family she obviously aint getting none

Out of the way old fashioned pub but with a unique dining experience, eat in a converted railway carriage! Butcombe bitter, well kept and served, outstanding food, two of us had the Chinese five spice pork belly, the other two had griddled goats cheese, both a massive thumbs up! I had the mixed grill, if there was a fault it was simply too big a meal, gammon steak, pork chop, pork sausage, lamb chop, sirloin steak and chips with salad, quite brilliant, my wife had the salmon, her sister has chicken and leek pie, homemade and looked terrific, by brother in law had lambs liver and bacon, also voted top nosh. No one had room for dessert sadly, we had two rounds of drinks and a bill of £155 was extremely reasonable. More than worth a visit.

The Inn has zero flexibility with check-ins. If you are at all likely to run late, don't bother making a reservation. The money is likely wasted. We called the venue 2.5 hours in advance to inform them that we had been stuck in traffic and would arrive a little bit late for a one night stay the same night. We would have arrived no more than half an hour past check-in time. The lady on the phone responded rather abruptly to inform me that we will not be checking in or be staying at the hotel that night if we arrive after 11pm. When asked if there was anything that could be done, the response was no. While I understand that each venue has their own policies and generally support this, there should be flexibility for unforeseen circumstances. This is honestly a first for me. I've stayed in a wide range of hotels, hostels, Inn's, home stays, camps sites etc, but have never before been met with such a lack of compassion or customer service. Terrible start to what was meant to be a lovely birthday weekend. Can not recommend.

Booked to stay here for 1 night. Unfortunately we were delayed in traffic so we called to apologise and ask if we could check in a little late. Only 20-30mins after check in closes (which was hidden in the fine print on the booking page). Lady on the phone simply said we wouldn’t be able to stay there. No apology, no explanation, no attempt to offer a solution such as leaving a key out and no refund. We were left out of pocket with no where to spend the night. Zero empathy or customer service. Thanks for nothing

We visited the area for a weekend break, three old school friends. We chose the Old Station for dinner Saturday night purely from the web recommendations. What great luck, this pub is superb ! It has the atmosphere of a proper pub with great, well cared for beers. We had a meal in the quirky railway carriage that is the restaurant and each chose different items, all our food was first class with huge portions, a really wonderful experience. Then there’s Neville and Debbie. Great hosts with great personalities. The night could have ended badly due to the lack of taxis in the area, but that was no problem. Neville loaded us into his car and took us back to our hotel 10 miles away, refusing to accept any payment. That’s what we call a landlord. We are already making plans to return to the area so we can spend more time in this wonderful pub.

I’ve dined in the carriage a few times since recently moving to the area and would recommend the bar/restaurant. The pub decor is amusing and quirky and there’s always a warm welcome. The food quality is fabulous, with generous portions and good variety of dishes. The Recession Concession menu is amazing value and I’d happily dine here every week. It’s a unique restaurant and I’m proud to invite my friends there. Definitely recommend!

I have been going to this pub for a number of years and have never been disappointed. The food is always delicious and is hot. I beg to differ that the reviews are fake!!! I find it very difficult to find a better place to eat to be honest. The prices are very reasonable too.

Disappointing Experience at The Old Station Inn My recent visit to The Old Station Inn left much to be desired. Despite the welcoming ambiance and unique decor, the experience fell short due to cold, undercooked food and inflated prices. Arriving with a group of four and a child on a quiet Sunday afternoon, we were hopeful after reading positive reviews online. However, our expectations were not met. Most likely the 5 stars reviews are fake, or from another era. We ordered a variety of dishes including Sunday roast beef and pork, fish and chips, and sausage and gravy. Unfortunately, all of the meals were served cold and some items were raw or undercooked. Despite expressing our dissatisfaction, the resolution offered by the waiter was insufficient. While one meal was removed from our bill, it didn't make up for the overall disappointment. The experience of dining inside a train carriage was undermined by the poor quality of the food. In conclusion, I cannot recommend The Old Station Inn based on my recent experience. The combination of cold, subpar food and high prices overshadowed any positives from the ambiance.

Really friendly fun family run place with great tasting food.

Called in for lunch on spec, mid week, and was impressed by the service and food on offer. Generous portions and tasty food. Well worth a visit if you're out and about looking for a lunch spot.

I’ve never left a review in my life but I have to on this occasion. You’ll be disappointed eating in this place if you know decent food. Sitting in a train carriage might be appealing but, if that is the case, do yourself a favour and just buy a train ticket to go somewhere nice to eat!

Quante pub with idyllic location, family run, eccentric decorations that leave you looking for more qwerky history items, staff were attentive and very welcoming, highly recommended is the belly pork starter, mixed grill and thai sea food curry was outstanding, locals drinking were very polite and welcoming, train carriage seating was comfortable and warm

The pub owners are super lovely and accommodating. On my last visit my order got mixed up and instantly fixed it but allowed my grandad to have the meal that they'd written down in error as an apology. Fantastic service food is always hot, on time and beautifully served. Will visit as often as I can!

I just love this place. Nev and Debbie are hostesses with the mostess! The pub is warm, cosy, quirky, friendly with SO many weird and wonderful items all around to look at. The carriage is beautiful and a really lovely place for a meal out, amazing atmosphere, food was fantastic and good size portions and made a really special evening in a unique environment. The rooms are basic but comfortable and as a disabled person I had the best night sleep in ages in a very comfy bed. I was very impressed with the amount of tea and coffee sachets in the room, more than enough for someone like me who drinks a LOT of tea!. Shower was good and room was warm and cosy. Thanks for a great time.

Five of us went for a early dinner. Two had salmon which they said was very tasty. My husband had sausage and mash, he said the best he ever had. I had the Thai chicken curry which was wonderful, I could eat it again now. Definitely will returning

Together with my wife we visited the old station inn. An unexpected visit, near by our campsite. We had a wonderfull meeting with other visitors. But as well the pub and restaurant, so nice and with a positive energy. The reason: Debby and her husband! Friendly, warm and open for their guests. The next evening we went back to enjoy our diner. A unique setting for a wonderful meal. Myself and four friends arranged for an evening meal in this venue of a once railway carriage now offering a spacious and comfortable dining setting. The menu is varied and full of choices for any appetite. Service and food is faultless with a good measure of attention and humour. We really liked the presentation of each of our dishes with the choice of plates to enhance our particular menu choice. Cannot recommend the Old Station Inn highly enough.

The is a wonderful quirky country pub, with a pair of owners totally committed to complete customer satisfaction. Dinner was served in an old converted railway carriage filled with relevant antiques and memorabilia…. Food was superb with a wide choice and freshly prepared, and served in a cheerfully friendly way. Likewise a wide choice of wines at very reasonable prices I was so surprised at this refreshing experience that I had to write a glowing review….

I was invited here by a very good friend, who said, wait until you see this... I will not give away spoilers. I drove, and there was an anxious moment when I was told to avert my gaze to keep the surprise. When I entered, (fnarr, fnarr, for those that know!) I thought the surprise was the real traditional pub, with quirky knick-knacks all around, board and puzzle games everywhere (I am champion snakes and ladders King, but keep that sssh between you and I) I was already spellbound. Then I was taken to the dining area. You'll see. Food, too plentiful and amazing, the atmosphere topped it, as did all the super friendly staff and owners. Put it on your bucket list and thank me later. xx

What a nice find! We happened across this place randomly as we were driving and sat in the carriage area. Our 2 year old loves the experience. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere in the carriage was such a lovely experience. The food was nice too, husband and I had the chicken pie. I like that it came with lots of nice fresh vegetables. We would love to come back again

Had Sunday lunch thire on our way to Exmouth this was our second visit here the food is always fantastic the landlady is friendly and aways has time for her customers recommend dinner in the carriage it's a real treat we will always call when in area.

Came here and dined in the carriage, loved the quirkiness of it, clean, great service, fab tasting food and huge portions! We had pork belly starter, garlic bread and goats cheese all amazing but the pork belly was especially divine. For mains we had chicken, fish and chips (kids) and steak all were again home cooked and super tasty, huge portions. We shared a lemon posset for desert and I can honestly say this is the best one I’ve tasted! Would highly recommend and will come back if in the area!

What a hidden gem! A friendly pub with a novelty railway carriage restaurant at the back of this quirky pub. So much attention to detail has gone into this and the food was delicious with big portion sizes and a varied menu. Not part of any chain but an independently run pub/restaurant. You will not be disappointed! It even has a mini crazy golf course in the garden. See pics.

Lovely pub full of quirky character and brilliant home cooked locally sourced food. Beautiful pint of Guinness and a lovely local beer. Dogs and humans made to feel very welcome although stroking was reserved for canines only! Definitely recommend a visit

Wonderful atmosphere and wealth of ephemeral items adorning the walls and ceilings. Welcomed by a lovely Welsh lady behind the bar (I believe to be the owner) and ate a wonderful meal in the Carriage Restaurant - a restored Pullman carriage. Food absolutely out of this world!

Had dinner in the excellently refurbished First Class railway carriage. It's so well done, like something out of Agatha Christie.

The novelty side is eating in a very well refurbished old train carriage. It is connected seemlessly to the main building and kitchen area. The whole service is provided by a very attentive family group that do everything from order through cooking, serving and checking and clearing away. They are all friendly and take time for everyone. Prices are very fair and servings generous.

This was recommended to us as a great family pub/restaurant and boy did it deliver! Our group of 10 aged between 20 months and sixty(mumble) years were delighted!

On our way to Bath for the weekend, we stopped in at The Old Station Inn for lunch. The pub is cosy and filled with all sosrts of memorabilia collected over the years. We were thrilled to find a railway carriage dining saloon that served as the restaurant. It is in pristine condition and brought back wonderful childhood memories of travelling by train in South Africa. The food was delicious, and the service excellent.

We had a groupon to stay over with glass of wine. Went to this pretty pub and were amazed at how quirky it was inside. Full of memorabilia and interesting signs and objects - a fascinating place. Our room just a few yards over the courtyard was a family rooms, so very spacious and clean. We booked into the restaurant it was lovely sitting in the railway carriage, a great experience. The food was delicious and very well presented. My salmon in a sauce was excellent and their speciality trio of chocolate puds was amazing. We had a very comfortable night and it was excellent value, I would certainly love to return. The waiter was a young lad learning the trade and he was very polite and helpful

Well done TripAdviser! My daughter found The Old Station Inn on a search for where to eat as we planned a trip to Wells and Glastonbury. We booked a table in the Carriage Restaurant and were so glad we did. Our welcome was warm, the service was excellent, friendly and efficient staff.

Driving on our way to Bridgwater and came across this pub by accident. As we had bad traffic on the motorway so we went the country road way wow what can I say about this pub. What a lovely gem to find

This is a lovely inn and restaurant. My mum and I booked in for a night between visiting Bath and Wells - so a perfect location. Our room was comfortable, clean and well stocked with tea, coffee and biscuits. No breakfast service but it was less than a half hour drive to the centre of Wells next morning, so not a problem.

Booked here for dinner and overnight stay, it has a great location near Wells, Glastonbury and Street. The pub is lovely with reasonable prices. The highlight was dining in the train carriage, food was amazing with attentive service. A lovely welcome to this part of the world.

The Inn has an oldie worldie feel to it, inside is a cornucopia of bric a brac to look at - each way you turn you see something new. The dining room is a converted railway carriage - recently renovated. The food was excellent. The landlady was warm and welcoming and the locals love a good chat and were full of ideas of places to visit. Our room was clean, welcoming and comfortable. A separate annex to the side of the inn.

4 of us had lunch, all had different, all arrived at the same time,no long waits, food excellent and very al la carte, but not Al la carte prices, excellent all round. A very interesting and quirky place.

Really enjoyable family meal, 4 years after our last visit. Welcome was great, food well cooked and generous portions, service prompt, kids loved the crazy golf which kept them amused while we could watch them from the railway carriage and enjoy some peace. Buttcombe beer very well kept. Prices reasonable and all round a very pleasant evening.

As usual first class food and service! it has an intimate atmosphere in the carriage and is a very friendly place. Going back for an anniversary dinner next month can't think of anywhere better!

We stayed here as well. Cannot book in until 5 pm, As this is when the Pub opens up. But the bonus is you can leave in the morning at midday.

It was such a refreshing change to eat an excellent meal in a imaginative railway carriage. The welcome from Debbie was warm and friendly. The lunch was excellent and of a much higher quality than a lot of pubs and certainly not overpriced.

We had a fantastic Sunday lunch here last week. Lovely lamb and beef for two of us and stunning crispy pork belly for the other two!

Dined here last night and we were very pleasantly surprised. For the price of a standard meal at a chain restaurant you receive not only fantastic food but also an experience. The decor and the music played in the carriage was restful and took you back to a very Agatha Christie style era. We ordered the whitebait to start and I kid you not these were the largest whitebait I have ever seen, very well fried with no greasy taste. These coupled with a restaurant in Exmoor now are my top two, and I order whitebait pretty much anywhere I can get my hands on it. We then ordered the special main of a kilo of pork and the 'pig out' main, both of which were a very generous portion cooked excellently. If only we had saved room for dessert! We stayed overnight and the atmosphere in the pub section the next day was very welcoming, with guests and locals both enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.

Service was good in the dining car and the meal was very good, plenty of variety on offer and was very tasty with huge portions. Other diners meals looked equally impressive. The pork belly was outstanding.

I reviewed this as a hotel, where I described the meals, so I will keep this brief. The food was excellent, and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

The food on the train carriage was exceptional and well recommended. However, the stay was less pleasant. The hairdryer had been melted with a hole exposing the inside which was dangerous beyond words and kept cutting out, not helped by the electrics not being legally re-tested in 2017. Cobwebs were visible by the TV, and heavy dust in eyeshot on Back of TV (back of TV is visible when in the room). Thick dust and grime on top of curtains, and damp patches in bathroom. After our meal, we asked for a jug of milk for the room, it was only when it was empty did we see the grime inside the jug. Again, meal is faultless and enjoyable, but avoid staying if you like your comforts. See photos below to back up my review.

Signature dishes are worth a go, the pate as a starter was great, the pork hock fab and the trilogy of mousse desserts lovely.

The restaurant experience is lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful. Top quality food worth every penny. I would definitely book again.

A well deserved “Excellent” to the lovely management of the romantic carriage restaurant here, for such great care taken during our visit with two trainee guide dogs. They were treated like royalty! We were allocated a table for four, where two chairs were removed to allow additional room for our potential life changers. The food quality and waitress service were also very good. Well done!
