I`m a local and visit fairly often and arranged to meet a friend for a quick lunch. She is "gluten free" and was pleased to see on the menu "ham egg and chips (gf)" and ordered it. We were both VERY disappointed when our meals arrived and hers had 3 new potatoes! When we complained were told that they couldn`t do gf chips because of "cross contamination" - fair enough, but our point was that the implication on the menu was that their chips WERE gf. No apology, nor reduction in price was offered. As my friend said, she`d have ordered something different if she`d known.

I took my grandmother and my family out to lunch here. Its convenient for her because she is 94 and can't walk very far. The food was pretty awful but she likes it, although the service was good. But I was then hit with a 100 pound parking fine (same cost as for lunch for 6 people), as my mother parked the car and then supported my grandmother straight to her table. She didn't see any signs. It clearly states on this website that there is free off-street parking. Absolutely disgraceful.

The parking lets this wonderful pub down. DO NOT PARK in The Crown car park. I've been issued a parking fine £60 - £100. I used the parking registration inside the pub as I always do. They still issued me a fine! Of course, I'm going to appeal it, but I've got more chance of shaking hands with Elvis! Will not be dining here again.

We were looking for a cozy warm pub after getting freezing cold watching a football match on Sunday. The main restaurant was fully booked, so the waitress kindly said that we could eat in the bar. It was very cold in there, the fire was unlit. We decided to stay as we were hungry. When I asked if the fire could be lit the waitress said that no wood had been chopped so no fire. We ordered two roast dinners and a main portion of calamari. The roasts were very bland, two slices of very tough, over cooked roast beef, pork that looked like it had been microwaved, watery, tasteless gravy and bland, overcooked veg, which we left. We had to ask for cutlery, condiments and lemon to go with the calamari. I appreciate that the waitresses were busy in the main restaurant. Very overpriced at £18.00 for the roast and 15.00 for 8 pieces of calamari. Very disappointing experience and a total waste of money.

Went here for the first time on the weekend. Lovely atmosphere, we sat underneath the beautiful lit up tree, which my children loved. No children’s menus, which I was very surprised about. Ended up ordering my children pizza, but they only do these as normal size, not children’s sizes. Also, no children’s drinks like cartons or fruit shoots. Service was a little slow, but it did become quite busy, so this was understandable. Food was lovely, everyone enjoyed what they had. Sign outside said it was a Greene king pub, which is on the bluelight card app for 15% discount. But was told by the waitress, because it’s a privately owned pub, they don’t do the discount, which was disappointing. Overall, nice place to go for a meal, just not ideal for families with children in my opinion. Would visit again, without the kids!

Turned up Saturday lunchtime not having booked. We were shown to a table no problem. Everything decorated for Christmas, had a lovely vibe. Staff were welcoming. Have been here before and had the pie and felt a bit underwhelmed. Not so today. Okay the two chicken pies were sold out, we plumped for the steak and ale. It was delicious. The beef was slow cooked for about a day apparently. Well filled pies, al denté vegetables, perfect chips soft on the inside with extra gravy. Could not fault. Desserts of toffee apple pie and jammy roly poly devoured and given full marks. Definitely will be back. Outdoor space looks inviting for a summer's evening.

Went here for a Christmas meL with work friends. For what we paid and got to eat its very poor. Very disappointed coffee and mince pies werent included in the amount we paid. Party of 20 of us split on 2 tables main courses were brought out then there was a wait for veg which was very small 2 slices if carrots each! Surely doing 1 table at a time to ensure our food stayed hot would of been better. We asked for more veg but never got it. We got extra gravy to warm our meals up. Very pricey evening on both food and drinks.

The atmosphere in the pub was nothing to speak of & service was very slow, but my biggest issue is that I've been issued with a parking fine, despite being a customer of the pub! I met with a friend & didn't notice that we had to register our vehicle licence plates at the bar because it was pretty busy & the signs in the car park weren't that obvious in the dark if you didn't know you had to register your vehicle at 7pm at night! Despite providing evidence of being a customer, I'm still being charged by the car parking company, with a really threatening letter about whether I choose to appeal or not. All in all, a terrible experience & I certainly won't ever go back to the Crown...

We like the atmosphere year round in this pub but the menu changes really let it down now. Why mess about with classics? Mushy peas with scampi and chips? Pickled rainbow veg? Pickled cucumber with a prawn cocktail?… sorry but just no! And where did your fabulous pork belly go? The tartar sauce was horrible as well. Also for £15 the portion size was small too. All such a shame when things were so good in the past.

I would have rated this experience as excellent as the food was some of if not the best pub food I have had recently, it is a shame that the exceptional food was not replicated with exceptional service as we felt that anything we asked for (which should have been standard) like extra cutlery and condiments seemed like an effort to provide especially as the pub wasn’t exceptionally busy . Great food but perhaps an off night for service .

EDIT to correct pub response below - I’ve never, ever, used the pub to park and get the bus anywhere - I’ve used it to come to the pub only! Which is what I said on the phone (before she hung up!) This business seem to want to lose customers by being extremely rude and lying. Weird. Further, I described the parking system as ‘newer’, not new. I haven’t been while it’s been in place, unsure why that is even worth a comment from you to be honest. Last edit to say, I think the worst part of this is that your barmaid spoke the way she did and you have not even commented on it let alone apologised. Thanks for the £20 fine in order to spend money in your pub. Really really poor behaviour from you. Parking fine for visiting the pub. Just had a terrible call with a member of staff here. My friend and I came in on a Saturday evening. We had one pint each and then left. We had parked in the carpark, as we have before, but not seen the newer signs saying you have to let the bar staff know your registration number when you go in. The bar staff also didn't ask us for our car reg (the rude woman on the phone just told me they are supposed to, but 'sometimes one slips through'). On Monday I got a letter from an aggressive parking company demanding money for not parking within the parking regulations (ie giving them my reg). I called the pub on Monday and explained we had been customers and spent money in there so we should be able to park - I was told to provide evidence of our custom to the enforcement company and it would be cancelled, which I did yesterday. The enforcement company just replied saying I still have to pay a fine despite the evidence of payment to the pub on the night. I just called the pub to ask them to help, and the woman who answered said no. I said I thought it was embarrassing of them to make customers have to pay enforcement fines despite having spent money in the pub, and she said she's not embarrassed and that they don't care anyway as they're always fully booked!!!! (again, they were practically empty on the Saturday night we went in - there was no one else sat in the main bar and only one other couple sat in the fireplace area). Then she hung up on me! It's such an odd way for a company to behave. I can totally understand not wanting people to use the carpark if they're not using the pub, but we did use it and have before - my friend lives right near them in the village! We're two intelligent people and we didn't notice the signs either when entering or exiting. The staff didn't mention the new rule either. If there's no flexibility on this then you should be ashamed.

Went for an evening meal in the week. Food was very good, generous portions. The ribs were superb and ham my friend had was thick and tasty. Staff were all very pleasant and personable. Took another friend on Sunday as I was impressed by previous visit. Roast dinners were not hot, food was lacking in taste, pork had no taste at all. Asked for gravy without alcohol content( some places have now flagged this on menu as an 'Allergy' and provide alternative non alcoholic gravy). Veg was small for 3 people and watery. One of my roast potatoes was black inside which I pointed out to server. Staff were all very pleasant and no complaints there. Hope this was an aberration as we like the environment, and had a cracking meal previously. 8.5/10 for first visit. 4.5/10 for second visit. Will try again in a couple weeks!

I booked afternoon tea for my Mum's birthday celebration. She turned 82 on 24 Aug this year. A party of 8 of us were seated in the refurbished Buddha Barn whilst surroundings looked lovely we were the only ones there!! No atmosphere. Then the stands came, not impressed at £21.95 per head I expected better. Value for money it was not, no choice of sandwich fillings and they were the cheapest sandwich fillings you could imagine ham, cheese, tuna and egg. The service was not brilliant either 1 pot of tea between 6 as 2 had soft drinks. I have emailed The Crown with a complaint and no response. Extremely disappointed will not be going back there for some time.

Came here to celebrate my mother in law's 88th birthday, and from start to finish, we received really excellent service. We had a range of dishes, all of which were nicely cooked and good portions. Avoid if you want a decent afternoon tea! Visited here before it was lovely attended my nieces bday here today was told last minute we would not have use of the tea barn area as promised due to it being under construction. Was sat in the pub lacked that birthday hire feel as other people obviously sat there. Anyway.. the afternoon tea was horrendous four choices of cheap fillings on cheap thin bread- 2 triangles with the crusts cut off per filling for two people - £40.00 for a cheap sandwich suitable for a baby, 3 bite sized cakes and a scone each. Not enough tea service, cutlery, or crockery put out for our party so some went without. Tried overcharging us for food, which was rectified in the end but no management around to chat to us, customer service was non existent and the whole pub is half painted covered in duct tape where they’re trying to save a few pounds on the decorating ruined the birthday And not a sorry in sight! I’d avoid!!

The beef was life leather, had to return a drink because the glass had a sticky brown residual substance around the rim, the table was sticky so got a wet wipe from my babies bag and wiped it, the wipe was filthy. The toast served with the dry Pate was just cheap bread and wasn't thick at all. Absolutely beautiful! We really enjoyed our evening meal and big gold star to Fran our waitress who went above and beyond to help us. She's a credit to the restaurant. Thank you again Fran for your help.

Lovely time attending a baby shower. Unfortunately I have been issued with a parking fine. I did not register my car registration at the bar as I couldn’t get a parking space. At the end i parked on the car park to collect the mother to be and her presents. I have sent a bank statement as evidence I was there and bought drinks at the bar. Yet my appeal was unsuccessful. So moral of this tale is register your car at the bar. Otherwise don’t go to this pub as you get ripped off with a parking fine

I stoped in for lunch and received a £60 parking fine for parking in the customer car park. I called the pub but their response was unhelpful. They said it was not their responsibility and they have a sign up saying cars need to be registered. It feels a bit like a scam for the parking company to make money from unsuspecting customers. Lunch ended up costing me £80 instead of £20…. The sign in the car park says customer parking only with no notice of having to sign in.

I stoped with my boyfriend in for delicious lunch. All is really nice but you need to sort out your parking place for your customers! We received a £60 parking fine in your customer car park!!!! How is this even possible??? We called you but your response was unhelpful and you dont care at all. You said it was not your responsibility and you have a sign up saying cars need to be registered. Who reads this? It feels a bit like a scam for the parking company to make money from unsuspecting customers. And dont tell me I should read everything in the world carefully. C’ mon. Please, do something with this.

We stayed here (2 adults, 2 kids 10 and 22) on a Friday night in a family room (quad room). The room was lovely - nicely decorated and bigger than expected. Beds were comfortable (super king bed and 2 singles) . Great tea/coffee station with plenty of teabags and milk. I was worried about the potential for noise from the pub, and while we could hear the bass from the music, it wasn't loud enough to stop the kids sleeping and it stopped at 11.30pm. We would definitely stay again

When we arrived we were welcomed by the owner who was lovely and very helpful -- she told us all about the Hub where we could get breakfast, and the bus which would take us into town (very simple route), and even told us about a free walking tour that runs every day at 10:30 and 14:00. We stayed in a room with an external bathroom which was very clean and tidy. The bedroom was really cosy (lots of pillows, and a choice of either a thick or thin duvet). The room also included a kettle, tea and coffee, and biscuits. Even though the hotel was on the main road, we couldn't hear the traffic at night. 5/5 -- would recommend, and will be back in the future. ∆∆ This was written by my girlfriend Summary: 1 bus to city (very easy -- less than 20 mins). Little community cafe 5mins walk -- fry up was gooood Room was nice , kettle , lots of pillows and two sets of quilts Parking around back good 👍 Also very close to prior park (national trust)

A real, real pub. Great decor, great fresh drinks. Super relaxed and friendly. You could imagine yourself here in the mid 19th century with carriages coming and going outside. Will definitely visit again when I’m back in the city.

The location was nice, and so was the lady who served; however, the tea was not. I had to re-ask for a hot cup of tea due to the coldness of the one originally purchased. The second somewhat took me back as it appeared to be brewed. The menu prices are somewhat high, £15.95 for ham, egg, and chips, so we decided not to purchase them. Will not visit again.

Wanted to watch the last Bristol City match of the season. They kindly put it on when requested at the bar. Screens everywhere, they even put another game on a different screen towards the end of the 90 minutes as crucial fixtures elsewhere. Great selection of ciders. No food, but you can order in. Would definitely go back.
